Ella Langley: ‘Dandelion’ – Album Review

Since the release of her debut album, 2024’s hungover, Ella Langley has proven herself a force to be reckoned with in country music. Following its success, she teamed up with Riley Green on the viral megahit “You Look Like You Love Me,” alongside her own solo juggernaut, “Choosin’ Texas.” 

Now, the singer-songwriter steps back into the spotlight with her sophomore effort, Dandelion, out now. Produced by Langley with Miranda Lambert and Ben West, the SAWGOD/ Columbia Records release features eighteen new tracks. “This record has so much growth in it,” shares Langley in a statement. “I’ve never poured more of myself into a project, into a song, into an idea, and it’s fallen out so beautifully. It’s about learning yourself, making mistakes, and realizing that it’s all just part of life.”

For Langley, the album captures everything she is as an artist: pure country seamlessly blended with vintage flair. Heartbreaking lyrics meet twangy instrumentation, all tinged with Alabama roots. “I want this record to be something fans can relate to, but also something they want to get up and dance to,” she explains. “To me, it feels like fireflies in the summertime… windows down on a red dirt road… the best kind of Sunday afternoon.” The result is a record that doubles as both a personal reflection and a nostalgic love letter.

For Langley, Dandelion offers old school country with a breath of fresh air. It’s honest and raw, while perfectly crafted with radio-ready hooks. The LP is cleverly bookended with a nearly 500 year old folk song, “Froggy Went a-Courtin,’” setting an immediate tone before hopping right in to the album’s title track.

“Dandelion” is a perfect musical appetizer for what’s to come. It’s a midtempo celebration of all the things that make her unique, as both a person and an artist. Her voice shines with its uniquely honeyed tone as twangy guitars remind listeners who Langley is. 

“No stranger to a dirt road or a country muddy river bank // If you’re pickin’ me, you oughta know // I wasn’t made for a fancy crystal vase // A mason jar and old blue jeans, from my roots to my boots, I’ll always be A dandelion // Born to live free”

Much of the album finds Langley firmly in her musical sweet spot, in the vein of “Dandelion” and “Choosin’ Texas,” yet it never feels repetitive.

“We Know Us” nods to the spoken-word stylings of “You Look Like You Love Me,” elevated by a doo-wop-tinged country strut. Meanwhile, “Low Lights” echoes the wistful feel of Patti Page’s “Tennessee Waltz,” layering heartbreak over a gently swaying melody. “You & Me Time” is a swinging, seductive ode to intimacy, while “Bottom of Your Boots” finds her pleading for commitment.

Heartbreak threads through tracks like “Broken” and “Last Call for Us,” while “Speaking Terms” stands out as one of the album’s most poignant moments. Sparse and deeply relatable, it plays like a musical prayer, capturing the uncertainty of faith and silence. In many ways, it’s her “Are you there God? It’s me, Ella” moment, finding her lost in the confusion that comes with a one-sided conversation. “I’m listening but you don’t say a word,” She confesses, “If your answer’s in the silence, I’ll be patient, but it’s hard to know my prayers are being heard.”

“Butterfly Season” offers another special moment, pairing Langley with Lambert on the gorgeous ballad about moving on and moving forward. Lambert’s harmonies complement Langley beautifully, reinforcing her status as one of the genre’s finest duet partners.

“It’s butterfly season, I’m finding my wings // A good time for leaving behind the old me // Headed for blue skies and lavender fields // Don’t know where I’m landing, just know how it feels // When it’s time to fly”

While she leans into her artistry, Langley never strays from radio-ready anthems, with songs like “Be Her” and “I Gotta Quit” offering those perfectly crafted moments. Co-written by HARDY, “Be Her” is one of the album’s most clear chart toppers, its instant earwormy status highlighted by simple repetition and catchy handclaps. Here, she longs for someone else’s life in a way that feels both authentic and yearning. Meanwhile, “I Gotta Quit” offers the album’s most punchy and tongue-in-cheek moment, a welcomed raucous interruption in an otherwise vibey collection.

Langley also longs for the simpler things in life on standout tracks like “Loving Life Again” and “Somethin’ Simple.” The former is a breezy and lush celebration of the things in life that make it worth living. Here, her voice is warm yet ethereal, hinted with the warmth of comfort of home. Likewise, “Somethin’ Simple” finds her longing for a life much different than the one she’s currently living. “While I’m livin’ the dream, All I’m dreamin’ about is, Slowin’ down just a little,” She muses. “When I lay there and close my eyes, I’m lookin’ for somethin’ simple.”

While Langley may be dreaming of simplicity, her career trajectory suggests anything but. With Dandelion, she continues to put her own stamp on traditional country, subtly reshaping the genre along the way. She may call herself “just” a dandelion, but like a yellow flower in a sea of green, she’s sure to stand out.

Ella Langley is one of the fastest growing rising stars in country music right now. After having a monumental 2025 with multiple number one hits, Langley is gearing up for the ride of her life in 2026. Her single, “Choosin’ Texas” has already catapulted up the charts, and it’s only a matter of time before her sophomore album does the same. The singer-songwriter’s sophomore record, Dandelion is officially out now.

Featuring eighteen tracks including a “Loving Life Again,” and a collaboration with Miranda Lambert called, “Butterfly Season,” Dandelion is some of Langley’s best work to date. The record shows her growth as a singer, songwriter, and as a person over her time in the industry. According to Langley, this project came out of a real and authentic place. “The word I keep using for this record is ‘synchronicity,'” Langley said at BMI’s Nashville offices in March. “I feel like ‘Hungover,’ my first record, is what brought people to the table. But ‘Dandelion’s’ going to be the thing that makes them sit down and eat something, you know? It’s me. It’s exactly who I want to be as an artist right now.”

Dylan Marlowe is a name you have probably heard of across the country music landscape. The talented singer-songwriter is crushing it as a solo artist, but it seems the singer had something else up his sleeve: 80 Acres. 80 Acres is a five member band is fronted by Marlowe with Christian Strahley on drums, Ethan Leak and David Medlin on guitar, and John Frisch on bass. They formed organically as a direct result of Marlowe’s solo career, and now the band is capturing something special. Their debut self-titled EP is out now.

After building much anticipation of social media, the EP is officially ready for fans to fall in love with. Featuring five songs, including an incredible collaboration with Treaty Oak Revival, the record truly shows that the band is something different. According to the frontman, Marlowe, “It’s just freedom. It’s fun. It’s feeling like you’re 10 years old in your bedroom playing your guitar for the first time, learning the first song you ever learned or the first chord on your guitar. That’s how it felt making this music.”

The Beginning:

Today’s spotlight artist is a star in the making. Dylan Conrique has been on the music and the acting scene, since she was a young girl. Now, in her early 20s, Conrique is making the best music of her life, as well as, the most honest music she has ever released. We chatted with the singer-songwriter about her upbringing, her move to Nashville, and of course, everything she has coming soon.

“I was born in the Bay Area, but I grew up in Northern, California. I listened to country music on the radio getting dropped off at school every single day. Country music has always been something that I listened to all the time,” began Conrique.

At an early age, the singer was mesmerized by artists like Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, and Jason Aldean. She recalls listening to it every single day going to school, and finding some early inspiration in the story-telling aspect of the country genre. “My mom used to own a horse stable in the Bay Area, so I have country roots, and my parents are in Texas now, and me and my brother live in Tennessee, so a lot has changed, but we went back to our roots with that.”

The Turning Point:

At around eleven years old, her family recognized her natural talent, and they picked up and moved to Los Angeles, California. “We moved to Los Angeles for music and acting, but the acting kind of took over because who was doing music when they were eleven year old touring, so I got signed to a label when I was fifteen, but I wasn’t sure what kind of music I wanted to make, but naturally I was writing Pop music because everyone in LA thrives on Pop music.”

Conrique found a ton of success in the acting sphere, but was starting to feel disconnected from her music, despite signing a deal at just fifteen years old. “Then I hit this wall at some point in 2023 I would say, where I felt like the music I was making wasn’t really true to myself. I felt like my ballad were starting to lean a little more country and I started to write some more stuff that was from the heart. My writing was just changing.”

The songstress started taking trips to Nashville in 2024 and writing with songwriters there. “I started writing country music, and I was immediately obsessed with it. I knew it was authentic and real to me because I wasn’t getting sick of the songs and I was enjoying performing them at well. It just came easy to me,” she shared, adding, “I make heartbreak country. […] I’m great at writing break-up songs and sad songs. One of my biggest influences right now is Ella Langley.”

After being in LA for a long time, Conrique moved back to the Bay Area temporarily before making the big moves to Nashville. “I moved back home after being in LA for a long time. I had lived there on my own for a couple of months, but it wasn’t really working for me anymore. […] I had already taken a couple of trips to Nashville, and done weeks of writing, so I felt like there was a sign for me to do something. It was a big move. I never thought I would leave California, but I love living in Nashville now.”

Today:

Flash forward to today, Conrique has set her sights on a career in country music, where she can be herself and share her true stories. “When I went to Nashville, I finally found my sound,” she shared.

Despite loving her journey now, the singer has had some trials and tribulations, since moving to town to start over in her career. The mixed feelings about her journey had led the singer to create some of her most honest and vulnerable music to date, including her latest single, “Polaroid.”

“I was about four months into living [in Nashville], and I feel like I hit a reality check. It was a little humbling driving around the city seeing billboards of people putting out albums. I was feeling a lot of emotions about starting over in the industry. It felt like Nashville is a ten year town, and it was weird because I had put so many years into LA, but those don’t count in Nashville. It was a bit humbling, reality check,” she shared.

The experience led her to feeling emotions she didn’t know she would feel. It was a glass-half empty experience for the singer. “Because it was so inspiring, but humbling, it made me so sad that I was starting over, and I hated that feeling. I was being negative about it, and before my session, I was balling my eyes out, and I was on the phone with someone just venting to them. […] I was in a state trying to figure it out. It was a lot, so I went into the session, and it was kinda obvious that I was crying, and Nicole was like, well, “it’s kind of like a polaroid. When you take a picture, it’s not clear until it’s developed.” And after she said that, it kinda all made sense.”

Her single, “Polaroid” was born out of this experience. “I kinda wrote it for myself, but I also wrote it for anyone else who’s starting over, and feeling like they are not on the right path.”

This is just the start for Conrique, who already has more music and live performances coming down the pipeline soon. Stay tuned, and make sure to jump on the bandwagon — she’s one to look out for!
