Warren Zeiders releases his brand new song, “Up To No Good” out now, July 22nd, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the new track below.

Warren Zeiders continues to prove why he made our coveted, 2022 Country Swag Artists to Watch list. On the heels of his latest EP, the singer-songwriter is releasing more new music. Today, he shared his brand new song, “Up To No Good.”

The song is easily an absolute jam. A catchy and irresistible melody backs incredible and emotive vocals. “Up To No Good” may be one of our favorite songs from Zeiders so far. According to a recent press release the song, “snaps like a touchdown pass from acoustic verses into an electric guitar-charged hook.” We agree.

“People talking, all my friends // Texting, calling, all weekend // Like why I ain’t seen you around // What’s the names tying you down // I don’t care cause they don’t know that // First she light that takes me over // Going out of my mind // Wrong never feel so right”

As Zeiders wraps up the July and August part of his 2022 ‘717 Tapes Tour,’ he anticipates a brand new fall tour. The ‘Up To No Good Tour’ kicks off on September 8th in Houston, Texas. The tour makes its way to New York City on October 27th. Find tickets here.

Nicolle Galyon: ‘firstborn’ – Album Review

Nicolle Galyon’s debut album, firstborn., is out now, July 22nd on all streaming platforms. Take a listen and read our full review below.

Nicolle Galyon has been one of the most successful and important songwriters of the last decade. Her perspective on life is so unique and evocative: she writes so clearly about being a woman, mother, wife, friend, businesswoman, and so much more. The collection of music, firstborn., touches on all of these ideas and is performed in a way that really, only the songwriter herself could sing.

The first single from the project and track one is “winner.”, which is Galyon’s true introduction. First and foremost, she was born in a town called Winner, her mother had her when she was young, her birth father left when she was young, she’s learning how to balance being a mom and a successful writer… and while it’s a lot to take in, she is able to navigate it all, doing so poetically.

“The main catalyst was, ‘What would I want my kids to know about me?'” Nicolle says in a recent press release. “How would I want them to know me as a mother, woman, and creator if it all ended tomorrow? I had the concept and I just knew I wanted to write the album chronologically as if I was writing my memoir to my kids,” she says. “I wanted to do it now in real-time.”

Track two is the spectacular “sunflower.” about  learning to accept her height — physically, being taller than the boys, but also being a strong presence wherever she goes. “You look the best when you’re looking up,” she sings. It’s hard enough to be a woman in the writing room – the add on wanting and being incredibly successful, joining the ranks of the “boy’s club”; it can be hard to feel proud enough to stand tall amongst said club.

“You might feel a little crazy // trying to fit in with them daisies // Someday It’s gonna be your superpower // It might take til 21 // but you’ll find your place in the sunflowers”

It’s a song for her, her daughter and all girl’s everywhere. For girls who are taller than others, and also girls who are ambitious and their presence stands tall/takes up space. Galyon is not only a songwriter, artist, mother – but she is a record executive/founder, for an all-women’s label, Songs & Daughters. This song is for all girls.

The writer’s list for firstborn. is like it’s own red carpet. Shane McAnally, Hillary Lindsey, Kelsea Ballerini, Sasha Sloan, Emily Weisband, to name a few. It’s not intentional: it’s just that Galyon is one of the best writers in Nashville and is surrounded by fabulous talent as well.

Several of the songs on the record are like social commentaries. “disneyworld.” is clever, but also weirdly nostalgic. “If it looks like I had it all // It’s because I skipped the ball // Never was a fan of fantasy”, she sings. “boy crazy.”, for instance, is incredibly catchy while being about the frustrating double standards that women face.

“If one second he’s laughing and one second later he’s angry // You wouldn’t call a boy crazy // Am I crazy or is something kinda messed up with the way // We never call the boy crazy?”

There are two songs on the project that were previously cut by other artists and two of Galyon’s biggest hits, “consequences.” (cut by Camilla Cabello) and “boy.” (cut by Lee Brice). Galyon’s own versions of the songs cut even deeper coming from the songwriter herself. Her delivery is more lived in – like there are more ink stains and smile lines that you can hear on the recordings.

Galyon would sing her version of Lee Brice’s “Boy” at songwriters rounds often, and her rendition of the beautiful song is a standout in particular. It’s incredibly moving to hear the perspective of a mother to her son. If “sunflower.” is for Charlie, her daughter, “boy.” is for her son, Ford.

“five year plan.” is a wonderful love song written solely by Galyon and her husband, prolific songwriter Rodney Clawson. The beginning of the song has audio of Galyon telling her children, Charlie and Ford, that their parents wrote a song together. It’s precious, and also like a time capsule within the song. There are also other samples, including audio of Natalie Hemby shouting Galyon out onstage while accepting their award for “Automatic” (Miranda Lambert’s Platnium, 2014). The melody and production is great, but the lyrics are what make this story. “Love don’t fit in a five year plan.”

“I’m doing this so that I have no regrets, so there’s nothing left on the table from me and my family and that I can be a good leader to my children,” she says. “If you have a gut instinct that you need to do something or create something or make something, don’t talk yourself out of it.”

Galyon does just that on the project, leaves nothing on the table, especially on the closing track, “death bed.” There are a lot of really evocative lyrics in it, such as, “You just weren’t in the car to see Superman cry,” but one of the best parts of this song is the stunning vocals. Galyon is able to truly establish herself as not only one of the best songwriter’s in town, but is also an amazing recording artist with a true vision. Not that the latter is surprising; few people are as visionary as Galyon is.

Nothing has been easy for Nicolle Galyon. Everything she has, she has earned rightfully so. Her talent and grit is apparent just by looking through her feed, but firstborn. gives people the opportunity to really get to know the woman behind their favorite songs. Boundaries will continue to be broken by Galyon, because that’s just her style. firstborn. is a close-to-perfect debut album. It’s a relief we finally get to hear Galyon’s voice – her perspective is always needed.

5 Morgan Wallen Songs That Should Have Been Singles

In his young career, Morgan Wallen has proven to be unstoppable, cranking out hit after hit. With a killer catalog of songs to choose from, we are sharing our favorites that did not quite make it to country radio. Here are 5 Morgan Wallen songs that should have been singles.

  1. “If I Know Me” – If I Know Me

The title track from Wallen’s debut album, “If I Know Me” has always been a crowd-favorite. The song is catchy, fun to sing along to, and showcases the charm that the singer-songwriter has in all of his songs. It would have been a great song for radio!

  1. “Whiskey’d My Way” – Dangerous: The Double Album

Although it is hard to choose some of our favorites off Wallen’s sophomore project, “Whiskey’d My Way” is a top contender. The song has “Chasin’ You” vibes, and showcases the softer side of Wallen. Only time will tell, if this song picks up steam.

  1. “Somethin’ Country” – Dangerous: The Double Album

Another fun-loving jam, “Somethin’ Country’ is a different vibe for Wallen. It almost feels like a Sam Hunt song, with a Wallen twist (which is a good thing, in our opinion). This song is sure to be a hit at the live shows, but would be so fun to hear on the radio during the summer as well.

  1. “More Surprised Than Me” – Dangerous: The Double Album

“More Surprised Than Me” is a vulnerable and heartfelt song off Wallen’s sophomore project. The single is honest and feels true to the singer-songwriter’s story and rise to fame. We would love to hear this tune on our radio speakers.

  1. “Talkin’ Tennessee” – If I Know Me

Finally, “Talkin’ Tennessee’ is one of my personal favorites off the If I Know Me album. I truly believe if “Chasin’ You” was not a single, then this would have been it. That is reason enough to make our list!

Tim McGraw’s song “7500 OBO” officially marks his 45th number one single at country radio. Learn more here!

This week, Tim McGraw’s current radio single, “7500 OBO” is the number one song at country radio. With sixteen albums in his repertoire, McGraw is one of the most successful country music artists in the genre.

The hitmaker continues to be a recognizable and a mainstay name in the music industry. McGraw’s song “7500 OBO’ is a mid-tempo jam wrapped up in an incredible story. According to the entertainer, “‘7500 OBO’ is about a guy who’s trying to get rid of his truck that he loves because there’s too many memories of his girlfriend in it. So ‘7500 OBO’ is ‘or best offer,’ of course.” He later adds, “So he’s just tryin’ to get rid of the truck because he can’t get in it anymore because all he thinks about is his girlfriend and all the great fun that they had and the times they had together. He keeps picturing her beside him in the truck, so he’s gotta get rid of the damn truck so he can move on with his life.”

“That pretty little thing made it hard to steer // I’m never gonna get her outta there // There’s too many memories // Now there’s a “For Sale” sign in the window // Yeah, ’cause if I’m gonna let her go // I gotta let it go, yeah, it’s gotta go // So it’s seventy-five hundred, OBO”

Congrats to McGraw and his team on another incredible number one feat! “7500 OBO” is definitely a song worth celebrating.

Here is Ashley Cooke and Brett Young’s song, “Never Til Now” from ‘The Bachelorette’

Newly signed Big Loud Records artist, Ashley Cooke adds Brett Young on the new rendition of her song “Never Til Now”, out everywhere April 1st. Listen to the track below.

In the weeks since she left our Babes, Booze, and Brunch event in NYC on March 20th, where she performed an acoustic set for us, Ashley Cooke has been making big waves in the country music world.

On the very long list of accomplishments, in a short amount of time, Cooke revealed the news that she signed her first record deal to Big Loud Records / Back Blocks Music. Prior to this deal, Cooke had reached major success as an independent artist, gaining over 30 million streams and reaching a TikTok following of 900K+. Another announcement Cooke was able to share with fans was several tour announcements including dates with Jordan Davis, Cole Swindell, and Brett Young. Then finally came the big reveal that Ashley Cooke would be adding Brett Young to her already popular love song, “Never Til Now”.

“Never Til Now” is written by Ashley Cooke and Matt Roy. The original release of “Never Til Now” is part of Cooke’s debut EP, Already Drank That Beer – Side A, released in August of 2021. The song went viral on TikTok and digital streaming platforms, gaining over 46K+ user-generated videos and over 15 million streams.

The combination of these two artists’ incredible vocals brings the song to an entirely new level. To one where two people’s lives changed in the same way on a night they just so happened to walk into the same bar and prove each other wrong about a kind of love they never thought was possible. This song is about falling in love when you least expect it, and the story is made even more special when two people who were in the same place in life find each other and change everything about what you thought you wanted.

The beautiful track landed Cooke her very first song to go to country radio. If that’s not enough, Cooke received the exciting news that her and Young would be performing the duet on the hit show, ABC’s The Bachelorette. Watch the full performance of “Never Til Now” on Monday, July 18th’s episode of The Bachelorette, here. Ashley Cooke and Brett Young Perform “Never Til Now” on The Bachelorette

Ashley Cooke and Brett Young performed, “Never Til Now” on ABC’s ‘The Bachelorette’ on Monday night, July 18th, during one of the special date nights.

On the heels of releasing the new rendition of their romantic love song “Never Til Now,” Ashley Cooke and Brett Young were invited to perform on ABC’s hit show ‘The Bachelorette.” The original version of the track blew up on Cooke’s social media. When Young was later added to the track, it was clear that the song was something special, even marking Cooke’s first song to country radio.

The singer-songwriter teased that she was about to perform on a huge television show. She later shared that it was going to be “awkward.” Although the performance was flawless and romantic, the date between the show’s lead and a contestant did not go according to plan. Bachelorette, Rachel was seen sending one of her suitors home, while the producers edited the performance around those scenes.

What could have been a super awkward performance as the two serenaded Rachel alone with a love song, instead became a powerful and emotional moment of the show. Watch the full performance here. Learn more about Ashley Cooke and her journey to country music in our spotlight interview here.

Who Is Sophia Scott? The Story Behind Her Journey to Country Music

Who is Sophia Scott? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about her journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

who-is-sophia-scott

Sophia Scott // Credit: Alex Berger

Quick Facts:

Full Name – Sophia Scott

Birthday – December 26th

Hometown – Boulder, Colorado

Musical influences – Mariah Carey, The Chicks, James Taylor

The Beginning:

Today’s spotlight artist is taking the country music world by storm in her own, individual way. Growing up in Boulder, Colorado, Sophia Scott has always had a connection to country music.

“I grew up in a musical household. My entire family is very musical and all play instruments,” began the singer-songwriter. “There was a close connection to country music. I grew up listening to a lot of country music, and it was just the natural direction for me to go.”

During her childhood, Scott was in a two-family band with her cousins, as well as, started to write music. “I was [also] in choir and theater and all of those things growing up,” shared the songstress.

Despite her love for country music, Scott credits soul and pop music for her vocal ability. She is inspired by artists like Mariah Carey, TLC, Whitney Houston, and country artists like The Chicks, James Taylor, and Willie Nelson. “I was so in love with country lyrics and just the storytelling side of that, but I love soul vocals. I sort of blended those two things together, and that’s basically how my influences have created me and my sound.”

The Turning Point:

Although Scott knew she wanted to pursue her artistry as a living, she followed the advice of her father and went to college in San Diego. Upon graduating, the singer moved to Los Angeles to begin her career. “I moved to LA and was there for almost 7 years, doing country music there […] I was back and forth between there and Nashville quite a bit,” shared the singer.

While residing in LA, Scott kept being told that she needed to go to Nashville to write. Eventually, she took the plunge and has been living in Nashville for the last few years. “Once I got here, I felt like I was home. It just felt right.”

Upon moving to Nashville, the singer began working on releasing a full project. Although the pandemic set her back a year, she finally has that project out for fans.

Today:

Flash forward to today, Scott’s EP, One Of These Days is officially out. The six-song project was a long time coming for the singer-songwriter. “I have been working on a lot of these songs for over four years. […] I have been working towards a project since 2019.

Scott later shared, “When things started opening back up, I signed my label deal with Empire, up until that point I had only ever released singles, and I really wanted to make a name for myself in town [with the EP].”

The project, as a whole, gives fans a taste of Scott’s personality and her talent as a singer, and as a songwriter. According to the songstress, “I really wanted to have a full project, a full story of me.” Adding later, “I picked these six and some of them are vulnerable sad girl songs, and others are female empowerment, and party anthems too.”

Although currently leaning into the more fun tracks on the EP, such as “Don’t Tempt Me,” Scott shared with us that her favorite is the title track. “I’ve been holding on to it the longest. It came from a very real, vulnerable, emotional place. It’s become this reminder to myself that I can kind of go through anything.”

If the EP is any inclination, Scott’s music is only going to continue to evolve as the years go on. She promises more music is on the horizon and more live dates to see her play soon! Keep your eyes peeled!

Tyler Hubbard Releases New Song “Way Home” Out Now

Tyler Hubbard releases his brand new song, “Way Home” out now, July 15th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the new track below.

Tyler Hubbard has been rapidly releasing new music to begin his solo career. His debut song, “5 Foot 9,” was released in late May and is already inside the top 25 on country radio. He followed that single with another upbeat track “35’s”.

“Way Home” is a coming-of-age story for Hubbard, who admits the wrong turns he’s made due to his reckless lifestyle, but after reconnecting with his faith, he decides to rely on Jesus to guide him home, or heaven in this case. Hubbard penned the lyrics with his good friends Corey Crowder and Canaan Smith.

“Yeah, I got lost (Yeah, I got lost) // Until I got found (Until I got found) // Oh, and now that it’s well with my soul // I just ride in the seat next to Jesus // ‘Cause I know He knows the way home”

So far, both Hubbard and former bandmate, Brian Kelley have grown apart from their Florida Georgia Line’s signature sound. Hubbard has touched on religion in the past, featuring on four tracks on the Chris Tomlin and Friends collaborative album.

Starting in September, Hubbard will join Ingrid Andress and Keith Urban on his Speed of Now tour. For tickets, head to his website.
