Who Is Breland? The Story Behind His Journey to Country Music

Who is Breland? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about his journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

who-is-breland

The Beginning:

It is quite evident that the recording artist, Breland is a star in the making! Breland is indisputably an artist to pay attention to. The Jersey native has quite the collection of collaborations that serve as a testament to the music community’s appreciation for his undeniable talent. We chatted with the singer-songwriter to learn more about his journey so far.

“My parents are both ministers and they lead worship at church and they met in a gospel choir, so growing up there was a lot of gospel music around the house,” begins Breland. “They are probably the most talented married couple vocally that I’ve ever come across,” shares the singer. Later, the entertainer paid more homage to his parents. “I definitely credit them for some of the things I am doing now vocally, in terms of arrangement and even melodies as a songwriter.”

Despite his family’s obvious talent and inspiration, Breland honed his artistry during his time away at boarding high school. “Being able to establish my own identity away at high school was really pivotal. I just started telling people on campus that I was an artist,” shared the singer.

The Turning Point:

After high school, Breland continues his education by heading to business school at Georgetown University. While in college, the singer-songwriter decided he wanted to keep grinding in the music industry.

“I kind of decided I wanted to kick things up a notch with music, so I started looking for mentors that could give me meaningful feedback with what I was doing,” shared the singer, adding, “I just started cold reaching out to different producers […] Eventually, some people listened and they were down in Atlanta, which motivated me move there after college.”

Breland truly embodies a passion for the industry. “You can only control your effort. You can only control how you treat people and you can only control your mastery of the craft. I think for me it was a combination of all three of those things,” shared the artist.

While in Atlanta, Breland added more genres to his catalog of music interests. “I kind of developed an appreciation for country music around that time because it was my first time truly living in the south. I was like man these people in country music have figured something out, there’s a formula that they have that I would like to figure out, I want to tap in.”

The singer also credits artists like Stevie Wonder, Keith Urban, Drake, Nelly, and Justin Bieber as some of his inspirations. When it comes to songwriting, Breland shared,”it’s a lot of Motown music like 60s and 70s, the evolution of pop.”

Today:

Breland burst on to the scene with his cross-genre hit, “My Truck,” According to the singer, “’My Truck’” was kind of a demo I had made after living in Atlanta for a few years and there was enough of me in it that I wanted to put it out independently.” This song was the starting point of Breland’s desire to explore the crossroads between the country and hip-hop genres.

“I was really interested in the intersection between country and hip hop, giving that they are both the preeminent genres in the south and recognizing that there’s not really a whole lot that separates the listener base if you look at every factor, other than race.”

Breland also credits the collaborations in hip hop music as his inspiration for his own collaborations. So far in his young career, the singer has already dropped music with Nelly, Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban, Mickey Guyton, and more. “I don’t really go into any of these things thinking I have to be on this song as an artist, I just want to create something and whatever is meant to happen will happen,” shared Breland.

Just this week, Breland premiered his latest collab, a brand new song “Praise The Lord” featuring Thomas Rhett, which the two performed together Monday Night (March 7th) on the ACM Awards. “I know that it’s a song that’s sticky, it definitely gets into people’s heads, and it’s kind of different and adds something cool to the country algorithm. And to have Thomas Rhett on it, I think will really surprise a lot of people and make perfect sense.”

Breland also revealed his debut album, CROSS COUNTRY will be out early this summer.

Thomas Rhett Adds Tyler Hubbard & Russell Dickerson on New Song

Thomas Rhett’s new song “Death Row” featuring Tyler Hubbard and Russell Dickerson is out now, March 4th. Listen to the brand new track below.

For the last couple of months, superstar, Thomas Rhett has been sharing songs off his upcoming record, Where We Started (due out April 1st). As usual, Rhett runs the emotional gamut, giving fans songs to drink to, songs to cry to, and songs that make you think. His brand new song, “Death Row”, out today, hits the emotional trigger.

The brand new track features longtime friends, Tyler Hubbard and Russell Dickerson. Written by Rhett with prolific songwriters, Zach Crowell and Ashley Gorley, “Death Row” is a pensive, thought-provoking track. Each singer, Rhett, Hubbard, and Dickerson each take a verse to share stories and experiences that they seemingly learned from inmates doing time in prison. Rhett shared in a recent interview that the new song was inspired by a real-life experience for the trio.

“Just last week, I went to prison // To see some boys down on death row // I brought some guitars and my buddies // To play some songs we thought they’d know // I could feel myself trembling // When I shook one of their hands // I thought that he would be a monster // Turns out he’s a whole lot like I am”

The emotional encounter clearly took a toll on Rhett and his fellow collaborators. The singer-songwriter has a knack for sharing stories, and “Death Row” exemplifies that. Hubbard and Dickerson add additional elements to the already incredible collab. So far, Where We Started is shaping up to be a phenomenal project from Rhett.

Kane Brown Drops New Song “Leave You Alone” Following “Whiskey Sour”

Kane Brown’s new song, “Leave You Alone” is out now, March 4th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

There is nothing not to love when Kane Brown sings about his wife, Katelyn. The now parents of two, who welcomed their second baby girl, Kodi Jane, at the end of the year are arguably one of the best country music families to follow on social media.

“Leave You Alone” is Brown’s way of telling his wife he’s not going anywhere. Even though sometimes he makes mistakes and life isn’t always perfect, he needs her to know that no matter what, he is never going to leave her alone. He’s going to be there, wherever she is, just like her favorite pair of jeans with the hole in the pocket.

“My love won’t leave you alone // Just so you know // When I say forever girl // I mean I’m never ever gonna do you wrong // And I won’t let you go // Talking us growing old // Heres dusk til’ dawn // We’ll be going on and on // Baby My love won’t leave you alone”

Brown released his single “Whiskey Sour” earlier this year, and his hit song “One Mississippi” just went No. 1  earlier this week. Brown’s song with Chris Young, “Famous Friends” is up for Single of the Year, Video of the Year, and Music Event of the Year at the 57th Academy of Country Music Awards – which you can watch live from Las Vegas on March 7th exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

Alana Springsteen Shares New Song “Me Myself and Why”

Songstress, Alana Springsteen’s new song “Me Myself and Why” is out now, March 4th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

Emerging artist, Alana Springsteen, released her latest single, “Me Myself and Why” today on all streaming platforms. Springsteen is an artist we have loved from the beginning and that fondness only grows with each new song.

In 2021, Springsteen released her first album History of Breaking Up (Part One), which featured seven tracks including “Zero Trucks”, “California”, and “Trying Not To” with Roman Alexander. “Me Myself and Why” will be the first release from History of Breaking up (Part Two).

“Me Myself and Why” is a song about falling back into the same trap of being with someone you know you shouldn’t be and knowing that you have nobody to blame but yourself. It shares a rollercoaster of emotions in an incredibly relatable situation of having done something you know you will regret.

Springsteen shared on her socials earlier this week that “[she is] so proud of what [they] were able to capture in the studio with this song. Regret, angst, pain, anger, sadness, passion…wanted all of that to come through in the final track and it does.”

“My head won’t slow down //This bedroom’s a ghost town, and I  // There’s no one else to blame for // The long night I’m in for when I close my eyes //It’s me myself and // Why didn’t I just let it go // Why did I pick that phone up // Why did I let you kiss me // Should have just kept that door shut // Why didn’t I say hell no // Why did I let you hold me tight // Tonight, It’s me, myself, and why, why, why”

Mitchell Tenpenny Drops New Song “Horseshoes and Hand Grenades”

Mitchell Tenpenny’s new song, “Horseshoes and Hand Grenades” is out now, March 4th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

Mitchell Tenpenny is one of those artists who has completely mastered his signature sound. From hits like “To Do Us It Did” and “Drunk Me,” every song he releases is an enticing track. Today, the singer-songwriter dropped another brand new song called “Horseshoes and Hand Grenades.”

Written by Tenpenny with Dallas Wilson, the track is relatable and heartfelt. “Horseshoes and Hand Grenades” is a clever title to describe how it feels to be so close to the potential of love or a relationship. Each verse feels like a story unfolding, adding to the overall ambiance of the song.

“I guess we were just as close as a first kiss // Closer to God when you’re down on your knees and praying // Yeah, close like a secret, you swore you would keep // But somehow you let it slip away // So close you can feel it, it hurts when it’s real // ‘Cause the other don’t feel the same // Guess close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades // Horseshoes and hand grenades”

The song marks the first installment of Tenpenny’s upcoming project, The Low Light Sessions. We are excited to see how fans react to the new music!

Trey Lewis Releases New Song “Hate This Town”

Trey Lewis’ new song, “Hate This Town” is out now, March 4th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

Singer-songwriter, Trey Lewis has blazed quite the path for himself in country music over the last decade. Lewis is already a viral sensation on TikTok with a devoted fanbase. Today the artist released a brand new song “Hate This Town.”

Lewis shows his softer side on the mid-tempo track. “Hate This Town” is all about nostalgia for your upbringing. Upon first listen, you may think the song is about never wanting to go back, but really it is all about loving where you are from. Like many of us, Lewis taps into the younger version of himself, remembering all the days he wanted to get the hell out. It is funny how our hometowns become our favorite places the older we get.

“It was anywhere but around here // didn’t care wherever that wind blew // was your typical teenage kid, a know it all, but you couldn’t tell shit // ain’t it crazy how things change cause I just turned back on main”

“Hate This Town” is another glimpse into Lewis’ talent as a singer and as a songwriter. The music video gives fans an inside look into Lewis’ real-life upbringing. We look forward to more new music by the rising artist, as it is sure to be authentic and raw. Fans have sure flocked to him for good reason.

Filmore Drops New Song “Johnny Got A Girl”

Filmore’s new song, “Johnny Got A Girl” is out now, March 4th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

Filmore fans are finally having their wishes granted for long-awaited new music from the artist. With multiple new releases expected over the coming weeks, “Johnny Got A Girl” is Filmore’s latest single, available now Friday, March 4th.

“Johnny Got A Girl” is about the loss of a longtime friend whose memories and presence are deeply missed, but maybe not for the reasons you’d expect – and certainly not what his friends expected. In a humorous play on words, Filmore pays tribute to his friend who chose a girl over beers with the boys. It doesn’t come from a place of anger, but more from one of disbelief with some underlying sadness. They know their buddy might have lost his spot at the bar for good, but for now, they just don’t know how in the world, Johnny got a girl.

“Johnny Got a Girl // And I lost a friend // Can’t even blame em // She’s a ten out of ten // Must be out of her mind // She’s out of his league // And since he’s been with her // haven’t seen him in weeks // I got no one to drink with, fish with, pull my truck out the ditch with // Man, I don’t know how in the World // Johnny Got A Girl”

LOCASH Share New Rendition of Song “Beach Boys” Out Now

LOCASH’s new song, “Beach Boys” is out now, March 4th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

LOCASH is joined by Mike Love and Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys on their new single – which just so happens to share a name with the iconic band.

The duo was invited to join The Beach Boys (and John Stamos) on stage to a sold-out show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium back in February to perform “Beach Boys” live for the first time, ahead of its release and as a part of The Beach Boys 60th anniversary celebration.

“Beach Boys” was originally released as a solo version on LOCASH’s WOODS & WATER – EP before it found its way to The Beach Boys themselves. The song is written by LOCASH’s Chris Lucas and Preston Brust, alongside Dallas Wilson, Jared Mullins, Brian Wilson, and Mike Love.

On how the song and the collaboration came together, Brust shares: “The day we wrote ‘Beach Boys,’ I remember Chris and I dreaming of recording it with The Beach Boys. We never imagined that they’d hear it, let alone get the chance to lay down our parts with Mike [Love] and Bruce [Johnston] and actually feel like we were a part of a group that we’ve idolized for so long! It’s crazy how it all became a reality and now the fun really begins!”

Love, of The Beach Boys, then shared: “We had a blast collaborating with Chris and Preston of LOCASH! The song is so hooky – I can’t get it out of my head. I love mixing it up! Country Rock met Surf Rock and created a fun summer hit!”

“Beach Boys” opens with the classic hook from The Beach Boys’ iconic hit, “I Get Around” and continues to mesh The Beach Boy’s chill summer vibes with LOCASH’s outlaw country style and energy. In a song where the beach meets backwoods (or rather, woods meet water), you can’t help but want to drop what you’re doing and head for the beach.

“Let’s take the country to the beach boys // trade that red dirt in for sand // Show ‘em how we Tennessee boys // Catch a Jon boat buzz on a Catamaran // And get a little bit of red on my redneck // Drop a lime in the bottom of a long neck // Find a boat that floats and get shipwrecked // With some local honey // Let’s take the country to the beach boys”

LOCASH is nominated for Duo of the Year at the 57th Academy of Country Music Awards, live from Las Vegas on Monday, March 7th. LOCASH’s WOODS & WATER TOUR 2022 kicks off tonight, March 4th in West Chester, OH and has 21 more dates to follow including Wildwood, NY on June 19th as part of the Barefoot Country Music Fest.
