NYCS Swag Session: Hunter Phelps

As an artist, Hunter Phelps might just be starting out in the country music genre, however, as a songwriter, he has seen a ton of success. He is a co-writer on Chris Lane’s most recent number one, “I Don’t Know About You”, Florida Georgia Line’s “Talk You Out of It”, and Chase Rice’s current single, “Lonely If You Are”. He just opened for HARDY on his Sirius XM The Highway Finds Tour which we caught when it stopped at Gramercy Theatre in NYC.

Before the show, Phelps stopped by NYCountry Swag for a Swag Session and to chat about growing up in Florida, writing “My Kinda Livin” with HARDY for his Hixtape Vol. 1 and meeting songwriter Ashley Gorley for the first time. Gorley, who was accompanying Phelps for his interview with us, hopped in the shot to chat about writing “I Don’t Know About You” and about signing the rising artist.

Watch the full interview and performance with Hunter Phelps and Ashley Gorley below.

Swag Sessions Featuring HARDY

HARDY started out in Nashville as a songwriter for other artists and in the past 18 months has seen major success with four number one songs, “Up Down” cut by Morgan Wallen, “Simple” cut by Florida Georgia Line, “I Don’t Know About You” cut by Chris Lane and finally, most recently “God’s Country” cut by Blake Shelton.

While continuing to write songs, HARDY also decided to release his own music, his debut radio single “Rednecker” consistently climbed the country radio charts and his most recent release, Hixtape Vol. 1  is an album comprised of features, with 17 different artists putting their stamp on the collaborations.

This past week before his very first NYC, sold-out headlining show, the songwriter turned artist stopped by NYCountry Swag to perform his current single “Signed, Sober You” and chat about the tour, the Hixtape and much more. Watch the full video below.

Swag Sessions Featuring Baker Grissom

Back in June, our Managing Editor, Christina stumbled upon an EP from an undiscovered singer-songwriter, Baker Grissom. She was blown away by the talent she was hearing on Saturdays and Sunday and was thrilled when we were able to book Grissom for our 3rd Manhattan By Sail Country Edition.

Swag Sessions Featuring Avenue Beat

Fresh, young and spunky, we hosted Avenue Beat for a LIVE Swag Session and boy did they impress. Three girls from a small town in Illinois, Sam, Savana, and Sami were in New York City for the very first time, celebrating their debut EP.

Avenue Beat, who are signed to a record deal with Big Machine Label Group, performed “Broke” and “Delight” for NYCountry Swag and their talent rang true from the first note to the last. Between their perfectly pitched harmonies, simple instrumentation (including Sami beatboxing) and lyrics that had our entire team beaming, these girls have the coolest swagger. Swag Sessions Featuring Abby Anderson

Full of light and spunk, our next Swag Session is the talented singer-songwriter, Abby Anderson. Her bubbly personality and infectious lyrics make her one of our favorite rising artists and certainly one that will make you pay attention to females in the format. During our time with Anderson, she performed her single “Good Lord” as well as an unreleased track titled “Not In The Picture Anymore”. Both songs did a great job of showcasing her versatility and remarkable songwriting.

After her performance, we talked about her Today Show performance which you can find above as well as her opening slot on the Rob Thomas’ Chip Tooth Tour. Watch the full Swag Session with Abby Anderson below.

Swag Sessions Featuring Clare Bowen

Many of you know Clare Bowen from her starring role on the hit television series, Nashville where she played Scarlett O’Connor. The sixth and final season of Nashville which originally aired on ABC and then was picked up by CMT ended a year ago this month and since then, Bowen has been busy promoting her very own album. Her self-titled album, which we reviewed here became available in the U.S earlier this month and she is playing City Winery in NYC tonight.

Earlier today, Bowen and her husband Brandon Robert Young joined New York Country Swag earlier this morning to sing two songs from the album, “Little By Little” and “All The Beds I’ve Made” and to chat with our Managing Editor, Christina. During our conversation, Bowen revealed the story behind one of the most poignant songs on the album, “Warrior” which she wrote for the families and children she saw suffering when she was battling childhood cancer. Watch the touching moment and the entire Swag Session below.
