A year and a half after his debut album, Backslider, Elvie Shane is back with more original music. He recently released his new song, “Forgotten Man” and “Baptized.” Now the singer-songwriter is following up the release with his new song, “Jonesin’.”
In a recent press release, Shane shared, “”Jonesin'” is all about our vices and failures in the pursuit of satisfaction and happiness. It came with the realization that you could have everything you’ve ever dreamed of and still be left feeling empty at times. That’s just life. But that void can be a beautiful thing when used as fuel. It can piss you off enough to quit the bad habits or fire you up enough to chase the seemingly unattainable.”
“Jonesin’ puts all of Shane’s talents to the forefront. The country-rock anthem feels honest, dark, and enticing. With each lyric and complementary instrumental, the singer shares a compelling story about life, habits, and everything in between. While the song is definitely relatable, Shane’s vocals are a standout on the new track.

Mitchell Tenpenny releases new song “Bigger Mistakes,” out now, July 28th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.
Singer-songwriter, Mitchell Tenpenny is coming off an extensive, 20-track album released last September that was full of fun and relatable stories. Tenpenny creates similar vibes with “Bigger Mistakes” and it’s the perfect song to aid listeners through a break-up. The Nashville-native admits several mistakes he has made in his past, all of which carry more weight than her leaving. The singer wants to assure this woman knows that he is well over their relationship.
“I’ve had so much more to lose // Hate to say it, baby, but you’re old news // I don’t even think about you when I’ve had a few // So get over yourself // I’ve made bigger mistakes than you”
Tenpenny co-wrote “Bigger Mistakes” with some of the industry’s most accomplished writers including Chris DeStefano (“That’s My Kinda Night,” “Eyes On You”) and Josh Kerr (“Before He Cheats,” “Need You Now”). The two have over 30 numbers combined. Michael Whitwork, who has cuts all over Tenpenny’s discography, also contributed to the track. Tenpenny’s powerful vocals shine through the heavy, upbeat production.
“I’ve always loved Carly Simon’s ‘You’re So Vain’ because of the line ‘you’re so vain you probably think this song is about you.’ That line just cuts to the core,” the “Drunk Me” singer explained. “Some people like to think the world revolves around them and I wanted to write a song that was a reminder that isn’t the case. ‘Bigger Mistakes’ is about realizing that there are bigger and more important things in life than a breakup. The song is a reminder that you’ve gone through harder times and the future can be bright.”
Fans can expect this to be the first taste of a bigger project from Tenpenny. For now, they can catch him on the Highway Desperado Tour this summer/fall with Jason Aldean. For tickets, head to his website.

“Tie’r Down” could have easily been a single in the 90s – think “When” by Shania Twain meets “She’s In Love With The Boy” by Trisha Yearwood – with its banjo and pedal steel instrumental intro and foot-tapping drums. The lyrics are strong and sincere and continue a narrative that Whitters has been creating in songs like “Plain Jane” and “All The Cool Girls”.

Country music mainstay, Chris Young is finally cranking out more new music. The singer-songwriter released two new songs back in January, and now we have another new anthem. Young’s new song, “Young Love & Saturday Nights” is officially out now.
“When I first heard this song, I immediately connected with the groove and the lyrics with nods to so many things I can personally relate to,” shared Young in a recent press release. “It made me think back to when I first got started playing country dive bars and it was the same kind of thing. I drove a beat-up truck to and from gigs where I played music hoping the audiences would relate… and if I’m being honest, hoping the girls would like it too. Young love and Saturday nights are things that just go together and this feels like one of those big summer songs where you just want to roll the windows down, crank up the volume, and just drive around to it.”
Written by Ashley Gorley, Jesse Frasure, and Josh Thompson, as well as, credits David Bowie whose legendary guitar lick is featured on the song, “Young Love & Saturday Nights” is a high-energy, country-rock anthem. Young does it justice, adding his incredible vocals to the mix. The song is all about honesty, fun, and just having a good time and not taking life so seriously. This song is primed for the stage.

One of country music’s newest rising duos, Neon Union (Andrew Millsaps and Leo Brooks) is officially releasing their brand new debut EP, Double Wide Castle Sessions. The record features five songs that distinctly showcase their individual and collective talents as vocalists and songwriters.
Each of the five songs play to the duo’s never-ending list of strengths. The record kicks off with “Redneck Rich.” On the single, Neon Union celebrates loving life no matter how “rich” you are. The song is a true anthem for the blue-collar person, but invites anyone who loves the country lifestyle in with open arms. “Redneck Rich” is a fun-loving anthem that is stage-ready. “How You Don’t” is another true anthem off the record that comes later in the project.
The unique production and killer story-telling continue on the next song of the EP. “This Thing” is a special-kind of love song. Neon Union once again bring a relatable, yet celebratory vibe to their music. On “This Thing,” the men appear confident and ready to commit.
“This thing has kinda got a ring // Like the pretty one down at the diamond shop // This thing is kinda pink champagne // And a cake with me and the bride on top // It’s a little white church in June // With a couple of tickets to a Cozumel honeymoon // On a big jet plane with the same last name, say I do // And baby lets do this thing”
On “Country Radio Song,” Neon Union slows things down a bit, while still drawing in the listener. The song is the perfect combination of relatability and authenticity. The vulnerable nature of wanting to spin your person around, while listening to a country song is both heartfelt and real, two qualities that Neon Union often bring to their music.
Neon Union end the record with one of our favorites off the project, “American Dirt.” The project is the one-true slow jam on the record. While all of the songs have heart and depth, “American Dirt” leads the pack. A true story of resilience, the track is a true ode to both country living and the people that do not give up no matter what obstacles are in their way. Neon Union proves both their songwriting prowess and incredible vocals on this one-of-a-kind new song.
Double Wide Castle Sessions EP is an incredible body of work for Neon Union. Unapologetically sticking to who they are and what they have to say, the debut EP is a perfect introduction to their rising talent.

With a voice that’s powerful yet personable and an approachable style of lyricism that hearkens back to the early days of Taylor Swift or Kelsea Ballerini, country newcomer Ashley Cooke offers her powerful debut, shot in the dark, out now.
Of the 24 tracks on her Big Loud/ Back Blocks Music release, Cooke co-penned all but four, collaborating with Nashville heavy hitters ranging from fellow artists like Colbie Caillat, Lainey Wilson, and Ryan Hurd to acclaimed songwriters like Josh Kerr, Nicolle Galyon, and Josh Osborne.
For the Parkland, Florida native, who began gaining buzz on TikTok during the Covid pandemic, this album release is the logical next step. “The last year of my life has been crazy and wonderful in so many ways, but I think the next year might be even better…It’s been full of bucket list moments for me… I made my Opry debut, signed my first deals, went on tours with my heroes, and lived a lot of life in the moments in between. This album is about all of that — and it’s about the magic that can come if you really take risks in life and love,” shared the singer-songwriter. “I can’t wait for each of you to hear it. Thank you to everyone who helped get me here, and thank you for making me feel so safe to take a shot in the dark.”
The album’s title track is just one of many standouts, a simple ode to the path to a new love, found unexpectedly in a dark bar and aided by some liquid courage. “Last call, first kiss a little bit drunk // Who knew two straight tequilas on a debit card // Would wind us up right where we are,” She sings. “So here’s to, two strangers in the back of a bar // Taking a shot in the dark.”
Likewise, songs like “next to you,” “good thing going,” and “back in the saddle” also celebrate the bloom of new love and the excitement that comes along with it. “next to you” is an especially poignant and sparse ballad that finds Cooke celebrating the type of love she didn’t know existed. “I’ve been living dreams lately // but they don’t hold a candle to // waking up next to you.” Similarly, the wedding-ready “never ‘til now” finds Cooke trading verses with Brett Young as they celebrate the person that makes everything makes sense. “I never wanted to tap my brakes // I never wanted to settle down // I was always one foot out the door // I never thought about turning ’round // Never saw myself with a white picket fence dug into the ground // Never ’til now”
Other duets contribute stellar moments on Cooke’s debut, enlisting rising country stars like Nate Smith and Jackson Dean, in addition to Caillat. Smith joins the singer-songwriter on the double entendre, heartbreak-laden “see you around,” while Dean lends his raspy voice to ““what are you on fire about?,” which finds the pair musing that the flame between them has burned out.
Meanwhile, it’s her blistering duet with Caillat that enables her to make a statement, similar to that of Carly Pearce’s hit “Next Girl.” Here, the pair trade verses about a toxic ex, warning his new girlfriend to be cautious with her new beau.
“This ain’t me being mean, girl // I just hate to see a good heart hangin’ on a string, girl // It sure looks a lot like love // But what you don’t see girl // Is all those cards slid so far up his sleeve girl // When he says you’re the only one // Take it from me, yeah it’s just another thing // That he doesn’t mean, girl // Aw that he doesn’t mean, girl”
That honesty continues throughout the album, weaving its way through songs like “getting into,” “gonna get,” and “tryin’ to love you.” On the former, she’s warning a suitor to be prepared for a relationship. “Before you get into my car, into my bed, into my heart, my head,” She warns. “Know what you’re getting into.” Meanwhile, “tryin’ to love you” has her caught up with someone who is perfect on paper, but isn’t quite clicking. “It ain’t your fault // it’s hard to start a fire when you can’t make one spark fly // the trouble with trying to love you // is I shouldn’t have to try.”
Relationships ending are a prevalent theme throughout the LP, weaving its way through tracks like “tastes like,” “moving on with grace,” “i almost do,” “your place,” and “build a bridge.” What Cooke does brilliantly here is show every aspect of a relationship ending and the range of emotions. The album opener, “tastes like” finds her comparing whiskey to a former flame, while “i almost do” has her struggling not to reach out to an ex. On “moving on with grace,” Cooke cleverly finds solace at the bar, unapologetically drowning her sorrows in Jack Daniels, while her ex has moved on with a girl named Grace.
Cooke also shines on ballads, including “enough to leave,” which finds her knowing she’s not right for someone and loving them enough to move on. Meanwhile, “it’s been a year” is a poignant look at how fast time passes and how much things can change in one year. “And I ain’t sayin’ it ain’t been a good one // It’s been a did a lot more than I thought I could one // It’s been three hundred sixty five of record lows and record highs // Loving and losing, fun and confusing, praying and shifting gears // For the minute you got, it’s probably a lot, more than you wanna hear // So all I’ll say is, it’s been a year”
The album’s closing track is one of its strongest standouts, as “state i’m in” is an especially poignant ballad that has her grappling with being a young touring artist while also comparing herself to her peers. With her pristine voice shining over twangy guitars, she examines her place in life.
Speaking to Whiskey Riff, she revealed of the song, “I was in a tour van, touring around the country as we do as young artists, and I was scrolling through Instagram and I was seeing so many of my friends posting that they’re getting married, or having babies, and all these exciting things in their life. And I was just so excited for them. And I took a deep breath and I realized, like, ‘Wow, I’m so excited for them and I’m so happy for me that I’m in such a different phase of my life than they are.’ And it’s beautiful that we can have such different lives at the same age…”
On Shot In The Dark, Ashley Cooke is unfiltered and unfettered, positioning herself as a powerful female country artist for the next generation.

The Beginning:
Today’s rising artist is one you may recognize. Sister-duo, Tigirlily Gold, comprised of Kendra and Krista, are incredible singers and songwriters. Keep reading to learn more about their impressive story so far.
Growing up in North Dakota, the women of Tigirlily Gold have always loved music. “We’re sisters, so we grew up singing together, listening to music together, singing at church, and any local event that was going on they would ask us to sing at,” they shared. “Krista started writing songs at ten years old and playing guitar, and I had been in piano lessons, since 2nd grade,” shared Kendra.
At an early age, the singer-songwriters found inspiration in all of the music they listened to. “We grew up on 2000s country radio. So a lot of bands like Sugarland, Rascal Flatts, The Band Perry, even Adele, Taylor Swift, Little Big Town. Anything with harmony we were always drawn to. We loved the song “We The Pieces” by The Wreckers,” they shared. “We also look up to our ladies in country music quite a bit. Miranda [Lambert], Carrie [Underwood], Shania [Twain], Faith Hill, and ultimately we saw them on their arena tours and we said “hey if we ever get a chance to create this kind of career and play shows for thousands of people, that is exactly what we want to do in the long run.”
As the sisters started writing their own music, they learned that performing was part of their path. “Once Krista started writing songs was when we started to get the performing bug and maybe taking this more seriously. At 14 and 16, we officially started Tigirlily Gold, when we were in high school. We started touring around the midwest and surrounding states, and eventually started making trips back and forth to Nashville to see what it was all about.”
The Turning Point:
With a firm goal of making it to Nashville in mind, Tigirlily Gold set out to make that dream a reality. “After Krista graduated high school in 2016, we toured around the midwest for a year, saving up money to move to Nashville,” shared Kendra. “We knew we had to be in Nashville to take this somewhere bigger, so that was always the goal,” added Krista.
In 2017, Tigirlily Gold officially made the move to music city. “We moved down in 2017, and we kind of knew that we were going to be starting over in the sense that we knew we were going to be a small fish in a big pond, so we really put our heads down and worked really hard and got our music business degrees from Belmont University, and while we were doing that we would write with anyone who would write with us, and then we started playing down on Broadway. We started at Nudie’s Honky Tonk, and made our way down to Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row.”
Armed with talent and a strong work ethic, the singer-songwriters were determined to make it in the country music industry. “Growing up in North Dakota, we didn’t actually know you could do this for a living or as a career, but once we knew that and realized that it was like okay nope, this is what we’re doing, there’s no plan b.”
After grinding three days a week, playing at bars on Broadway, the ladies finally landed themselves a record deal with Monument Records. “Eventually the pandemic hit, and we didn’t necessarily know exactly what turn our career was going to take. We signed a record deal with Monument Records into the pandemic which was a huge blessing, and it’s been amazing to work with them.”
Today:
Flash forward to today, Tigirlily Gold already released two EPs, including their most recent project, Blonde “The four song EP is basically a teaser of the full thing that’s coming,” they shared. “You have “Blonde” that’s a really fun, girl anthem. Then you have “Shoot Tequila,” which is honky-tonk inspired. We have “Move On” as well which is a little more flirty, sultry, vibes, but still super fun. Then we have “Hometown Song” which is definitely the most vulnerable song on the EP and almost like a letter to our hometown. But we really just wanted to start the year off with a bang and get people excited for this music and more to come. This EP really shows where we’re at in life right now, our sound, and what we’re all about, and we’re really excited that people have been gravitating towards it.”
While all the songs on the project are impressive, “Hometown Song” stands out for good reason. “Our kind of roadblock [in writing a song about our hometown ] was that we weren’t being completely honest about how we feel about our hometown. It’s not 100% love and it’s not 100% hate, and there’s not a lot of country songs that talk about the in-between, push and pull of being in the same town for 18, 19 years of your life.”
The EP marks the first half of an album that is slated for release sooner rather than later. The songstresses are already playing the unreleased songs out on the road. Fans can catch Tigirlily Gold playing shows and the festival circuit, and stay tuned for more new music, coming soon!
