The Beginning:

Today we are introducing you to a singer-songwriter that we believe is on the verge of a breakout year in country music! Shane Profitt is a Tennessee native with talent that rivals anyone in the industry. His story is one of hard work and divine intervention, and of course, Chris Janson.

Growing up in Columbia, Tennessee, Profitt always loved music. He found inspiration in old-school artists like Hank Williams Jr., Waylon Jennings, and Keith Whitley that spoke to his blue-collar upbringing. Despite an early love for music, Profitt still believed in hard work and staying humble.

Regardless, a few years ago for Christmas, his grandfather asked what he wanted, and Profitt shared that he wanted to learn how to play guitar like some of his favorite artists. His grandfather gave him the gift of music, and the singer was off to races.

“My grandad asked me what I wanted for Christmas and as you get a little bit older, you start realizing that Christmas isn’t really about presents,” began Profitt. “I just told him straight up, I’m always the one that gets an extra piece of pie and just watches everyone enjoy playing an instrument, so I’d like to learn how to play guitar.”

Just a few months later, the singer began to play shows. “Probably within six months of me picking up the guitar is when I started playing my first paid gig. I only knew like eight full songs. […] After I got done playing those eight songs, I just restarted my whole set from the start,” he shared reminiscing about one of his first gigs.

Shortly after that, Profitt began to write songs of his own. “I started writing songs as much as I possibly could. I found I really enjoyed it,” adding later, “I leaned on songwriting to express my feelings.”

With the support of his family, Profitt began pursuing his dream and working full-time. After he would get done with his job, Profitt would reach out to anyone he could via social media to sit down and write with them. On the weekends, he would play any gig he could to better hone his skills as a musician.

The Turning Point:

Despite taking every opportunity he could in Nashville and writing with as many people as possible, divine intervention also played a part. Profitt called it a “God moment.”

Aside from the fact that he did not actually like sushi, the singer-songwriter took his date to a sushi restaurant at her request. While sitting there, Profitt noticed that Chris Janson, accompanied by his wife, Kelly, and his family were also eating at the restaurant. This started Profitt’s inner dialogue, as he racked his brain to try to figure out how he was going to introduce himself to Janson.

“I had all this time to think about how I was going to go up and talk to Chris Janson. […] I had it in mind that whenever I saw Chris Janson get up to pay, I would get in line right behind him because I didn’t want to interrupt his dinner with his family,” shared Profitt.

After waiting patiently, it was finally his time to chat with Janson. “So I see Chris stand up and the girl that I was with wasn’t even done eating all the way, and I see Chris stand up and I grab our ticket, and I start walking over to Chris and we get about halfway there and he sits right back down in his booth.”

While he could have given up and retreated back to his seat, Profitt decided that it was now or never. “I was like I’m halfway committed at this point, and I walked up to the table and kneeled down […] I introduce myself and told him what a fan I was and that it would mean the world to me if he would listen to some of the songs I’ve been writing.”

Before Janson could respond, his wife Kelly, his manager and music publisher offered to write her information down, so that Profitt could send her some songs. Being the humble and respectful guy that he is, Profitt responded with,”‘Yes mam,’ and Chris looked at me and said did you just say “yes mam?” I said “Yes sir,” and he said I like that a lot.”

Ultimately his kind and polite attitude impressed Janson, so much so that he invited him to pull up a chair and talk with him and his family throughout the rest of the dinner, talking about everything from songwriting to hunting.

Two weeks after that divine meeting, Janson offered Profitt a publishing deal and asked if he wanted to open up for him on his ‘Halfway To Crazy’ tour. Of course, Profitt said yes.

Today:

Flash forward a year later, and Profitt can not believe where he is now, pursuing his music career full-time. The recording artist not only went on tour with one of his idols, but also has a single, “How It Oughta Be”, sitting in the top 25 on the country radio charts right now.

Profitt also made waves with his debut EP, Better Off Fishin’. The title track, one of our favorites off the project is based on a true story, where the singer ditched a girl he was seeing in favor of going fishing with his buddies. Despite the true nature of the song, the track is as relatable as it comes, and of course, fun to listen to.

When it comes to Profitt’s current single, “Country Boys,” the rising artist leans on his fun and personable side for the absolute smash. According to the singer, the song was a bit of luck mixed with a great idea.

“I remember this particular day, I wasn’t even supposed, to be writing, but I had the idea of “Country Boys,” and all these different ideas going with this song, and I called up two of my buddies and they actually had writes cancel that day. […] We sat down with the idea. […] I had in my mind of what would I want to listen to if it was 75 degrees and I was riding down a backroad and “Country Boys” is that for me.”

He later added, “There’s a lot of different lifestyle lines in that song and when you hear that and you might hear something that’s relatable and you might hear that and be like that’s me […] That’s what is really cool about that song.”

The sky’s the limit for Profitt. In such a short time, he has accomplished so much, and it is only just the beginning. This year fans can catch the singer on the festival circuit. Stay tuned for more exciting news coming soon!

HARDY ‘the mockingbird & THE CROW’ – Album Review

HARDY’s new album, the mockingbird & THE CROW is out now, January 20th on all streaming platforms. Take a listen and read our full review below.

There are singers, songwriters, and artists, HARDY is all three, an absolute superstar in the making.  While every one of his projects to date have been incredible, HARDY has created a brand new and innovative concept with his country-rock album. Today, the highly anticipated record, the mockingbird & THE CROW is officially here.

The seventeen-song record may be the most exciting thing HARDY has ever created. In a recent press release the singer shared, “’the mockingbird & THE CROW’ is, in my opinion, is the best thing I’ve made so far. I had a lot of time to get in the weeds making this record with some of my favorite people in Nashville, and it truly captures every part of who I am as an artist. I’m honored that I get to share it with you next year; can’t wait to hear what you think about it.”

The record combines HARDY’s love and appreciation for country music with his mutual feelings for rock music. Each of the first 8 songs signify his country-side, ‘the mockingbird’, while the last 8 songs are incredible rock songs aka, ‘THE CROW.’ Of course, the middle song, the title track is a combination of HARDY’s country-songwriter side and entertainer-rock side, making it one of the best songs on the record.

“I’m a mockingbird // Singing songs that sound like other songs you’ve heard // Like Friday nights and headlights on some backroad red dirt // And how Mississippi’s home // I’ve always been a mockingbird but // Now I’m a mockingbird with a microphone”

On the country side of the record, fans get a taste of the singer’s incredible skills as a lyricist, as he weaves words and phrases into stories that appeal to the masses. The songs speak to nostalgic times in life, as well as, around heavier themes such as alcoholism, the death of country music, and getting caught up in forgetting to show appreciation.

The opening track, “beer” is a letter from the drink to someone that maybe has drank a little too much, while “wait in the truck,” featuring Lainey Wilson has been dubbed a “murder ballad,” and one of the best songs to come out at the end of last year. Of course, the other country feature on the project, “red” with Morgan Wallen is likely to be one of the most listened to songs on the project. The twosome combine their talent to create a song about celebrating small-town living in a way that feels like a breathe of fresh air.

“I ain’t talking politics, I’m talking small town // And if you’re from one you know what I’m talking ‘bout // It’s everywhere I swear from the courthouse bricks // To a crushed bud heavy can fading in the ditch // Like the book of John, like a barn door // And heart your hands over cause you’re thankful for // Every shipped off soul that was born to fight // For a wind torn flag that’s blue and white And red”

Another stand-out track is “drink one for me.” In a recent interview, HARDY confirms that the beautifully crafted song was written intentionally from the perspective of the person who passed away in “GIVE HEAVEN SOME HELL”, off HARDY’s debut album. It is both heartbreaking and comforting, a combination that is not easy to achieve. HARDY chooses introspection yet again on his solo-write, “happy,” a song all about personifying the feeling.

On the rock side of the record, HARDY runs the gamut all the way too heavy metal music, featuring Jeremy McKinnon on the stage-ready, “RADIO SONG.” Softer rock songs like the “JACK” and “TRUCK BED” help to bridge the gap between the country songs and the heavier stuff. Both previously released songs showcase HARDY at his absolute best, both as a singer and as a songwriter. On “TRUCK BED” fans will appreciate the reference to his song, “BOOTS.”

“I woke up on the wrong side of the truck bed this morning // With a bone-dry bottle of Jack I was pouring // Damn, she got some nerve, when she kicked me to the curb // Guess you can say I got what I deserve // ‘Cause I woke up on the wrong side of the truck bed this morning, yeah”

HARDY continues to bring the energy on songs like “.30-06.” The song feels reminiscent of an old-school punk rock song from the 2000s, sure to entice every millennial in his fanbase. Similarly, “I AIN’T IN THE COUNTRY NO MORE,” feels like it could fit into that time too. Both songs will be exciting to hear live.

HARDY ups the ante adding more heavy singing and screamo to the later songs on the record. On “KILL SH!T TILL I DIE,” the singer combines country lyrics about things like hunting with a wild explosion of emotion and energy. HARDY continues that vibe on the final song on the record, “THE REDNECK SONG,” proving that the country and rock genre are a perfect coupling for his music.

the mockingbird & THE CROW is one of the most unique albums out there right now. HARDY authentically fits in with both genres and finds a way to blend them effortlessly in a cohesive project. The entertainer clearly cares about every aspect of his artistry, and it shows through all of the seventeen tracks. If you have not yet jumped on the HARDY bandwagon, what are you waiting for?!

If you’ve lost someone, HARDY’s “drink one for me” is the song for you…

HARDY’s sophomore project, ‘the mockingbird & THE CROW’ is out now, January 20th. Complete with 17 tracks, HARDY cuts the project in two halves, giving fans a half-country, half-rock album. Much like HARDY has continuously proved in his songwriting, each song possesses its own licks of lyrical genius.

HARDY // Photo By: Ryan Smith

For Country Swag, an immediate standout track on the project is “drink one for me”. Within almost all of HARDY’s songs, each has its own unique story within a story and “drink one for me” is no different. Upon first-listen, HARDY fans may recognize a similar storyline to “GIVE HEAVEN SOME HELL” off of HARDY’s debut album. While “GIVE HEAVEN SOME HELL” harps on singing to a lost friend in heaven, “drink one for me” answers from the opposite perspective.

“but if there’s one way to keep my memory alive til the day y’all meet me here // it’s drink one for me // just know I’d be there holdin’ one in the air // if I didn’t have somewhere to be”

In our recent interview, HARDY confirms that the idea to write a response to “GIVE HEAVEN SOME HELL” was completely intentional for the project. “Once we had the idea that we wanted to write about somebody dying, we said we should write it from the perspective of the guy that died in “GIVE HEAVEN SOME HELL.” That was said out loud in the room. That was on purpose.” HARDY tells us.

While the emotional and sentimental track ties the two stories together, for those dealing with grief of their own, the cleverly written lyrics may help to serve as a form of validation in all of those moments where you can’t help but wish that that person was there with you, drinking a beer.

Jordan Harvey: ‘It Is What It Is’ – EP Review

Jordan Harvey’s EP, It Is What It Is, is out now, January 20th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand-new project below and check out our full review.

While Jordan Harvey may not be a household name just yet, it’s only a matter of time. Today, January 20, the rising country star released his debut EP with BBR Music Group / Broken Bow Records, It Is What It Is. On the five-song collection, the self-proclaimed “Caledonian Cowboy” weaves country themes, pop hooks, and an unapologetic Scottish side into a delightfully unexpected package.

The EP features two previously released tracks, the lush ballad “I Will” and the viral hit “Alabama Girl.” On “I Will,” the former member of King Calaway shows his romantic side as he pursues a girl who’s wasting her time on a dud of a dude. “If he won’t, I will,” Harvey proclaims of all the things a guy should do to make his girl feel special.

Meanwhile, “Alabama Girl” finds our Scottish hero unexpectedly falling in love with a Southern belle.

“God knows I’m a goner // Fell hard for a southerner’s daughter // Down here, I’m a fish outta water // Boy from across the pond // She likes my accent // I love her drawl // Yelling, “Roll Tide!” with her crimson lips and her Levi’s // And I can’t believe that she’s all mine // Now my whole world is a Rammer Jammer Alabama girl”

Harvey continues to celebrate love on “Along for the Ride,” a slice of pure pop country perfection that finds Harvey on a scenic drive with a someone special. Yet, on the catchy uptempo, his eyes aren’t on the scenery, but on his companion, as he muses, “I might have my hands on the wheel, but I’m just along for the ride.”

“Overnight” and the EP’s final track, “Thing About Change,” both show the young crooner’s more vulnerable side as the former finds him dealing with a breakup, but not too proud to admit that he’s not quite ready to move on. “I ain’t getting over you overnight,” he sings, “so come over tonight.”

Lastly, the album ends with the poignant “Thing About Change,” which tells the familiar tale of a cowboy falling in love, despite his best attempts not to. Here, he reveals that he never thought settling down was in his path, until  “his stubborn heart fell for yours.” On the swoon-worthy ballad, he admits “I never liked a thing about change, ‘til you changed everything.”

On It Is What It Is, Jordan Harvey presents a solid debut project that is full of catchy uptempos and heartfelt ballads that are sure to endear him to music fans everywhere.

Jordan Harvey – It Is What It Is EP Tracklist:

  1. I Will
  2. Along For The Ride
  3. Overnight
  4. Alabama Girl
  5. Thing About Change

5 Kelsea Ballerini Songs We Wish We Heard on Country Radio

With a killer catalog of songs to choose from, we are sharing our favorite Kelsea Ballerini songs that we wish we heard on country radio. Check it out below.

  1. “Secondhand Smoke” – The First Time

This B-side from Ballerini’s debut album The First Time will always stop us in our tracks. Written about her parent’s divorce is the beautiful and show-stopping ballad “Secondhand Smoke”. There are many incredible lyrics in this song, and we think a message like this would’ve shone on country radio.

  1. “THE LITTLE THINGS” – SUBJECT TO CHANGE

This fun, 90s country-inspired bop would be perfect on country radio, listening in the car with the windows down. It has that infectious groove that you can’t help but turn up all the way.

  1. “Get Over Yourself” – Unapologetically

This fan-favorite cut off Ballerini’s sophomore project Unapologetically would have been the perfect radio single. It’s sassy, yet poised and cool, and it probably would have even crossed over to pop.

  1. “Machine Heart” – Unapologetically

Another great track off Unapologetically is “Machine Heart”. It’s not one that gets a lot of attention, and that’s partially because this record is front-to-back perfect, but it’s evocativeness really works and the way it builds sonically is stunning.

  1. “needy” – kelsea

This Julia Michaels co-write is fun and flirty and all the things an upbeat love song needs to succeed on country radio. It would have been great on country radio during the summer into back-to-school, and, similarly to other songs of Ballerini’s, has true cross-over potential.

5 Things to Expect from HARDY’s New Album ‘the mockingbird & THE CROW’

We chatted with country singer, HARDY about his new album, the mockingbird & THE CROW, out Friday, January 20th. Here are five things to expect from the upcoming project.

  1. The album may be a half country, half rock album; however, the mockingbird THE CROW will always be rooted in country music.

“It definitely was more freeing, but I want people to know although it’s half a Rock and roll record, it’s also a little bit of my take or my spin on country music as well, because if you really dig into the lyric, THE CROW side has a deeply rooted country lyric […] I kind of opened the door for doing the rock ‘n’ Roll thing, but it opened the door for me to do a country thing, country lyrics over a really rock ‘n’ roll sonic production.”

  1. HARDY is a co-producer on every single track on the upcoming project.

“Every project that we go into the studio, I have felt more free to speak my mind or throw out ideas. […] Joey [Moi] has taught me a lot about filling the space […] That’s something I have really picked up on, helping Joey with ideas for filling gaps, and I’ve definitely grown a lot with that.”

  1. The album’s title track was the last song that was written for the project; and changed the title of the album.

“’the mockingbird and THE CROW’ was the last song I wrote for the record, and I did not necessarily have a title for the record. The record was originally 8 songs and 8 songs. […] We ended up just writing the whole song that day and it ended up being the last song for the record.”

  1. HARDY’s rock-heavy song, “Jack” was the first song he wrote for the album, and “happy” was the first solo song he wrote since 2013.

“The first song I wrote for this project was “JACK,” two years ago. And for obvious reasons, no one else was going to cut that shit. That was the minute that I was like this is cool, what do y’all think about this […] I had been wanting to try to get one by myself just to know that I still could. […] I had this weird idea about personifying the word happy and turning happy into a person.”

  1. “drink one for me” was written from the perspective of the guy who died in “GIVE HEAVEN SOME HELL” from HARDY’s debut album.

“Once we had the idea that we wanted to write about somebody dying, we said we should write it from the perspective of the guy that died in “GIVE HEAVEN SOME HELL.” That was said out loud in the room. That was on purpose.”

**Bonus note, HARDY shared that he WILL collaborate with Morgan Wallen & Ernest on a song in the future.

Dierks Bentley Announces New Album ‘Gravel & Gold’ Out February 24th

Dierks Bentley dropped a major announcement this week revealing that his tenth studio album Gravel & Gold is slated for release on February 24th. Get all the details below.

Dierks Bentley is kicking off the new year with a big announcement. The country music superstar is releasing his tenth studio album, Gravel & Gold next month, February 24th. The record will feature 14 new songs showcasing where Bentley is at in his career. It will also mark the first time that the singer-songwriter will serve as a producer on the record.

According to Bentley in a recent press release, “It’s been four years since I put out an album, and part of the reason for that is that I wrote and recorded two records that I didn’t feel were good enough and had to start over…twice. I’m going to be able to look back on it for the rest of my life and be like, yeah, that was harder than I thought it would be, but zero regrets. I had to get it right. That’s the Gravel & Gold of it all.”
