Dylan Marlowe: ‘Dirt Road When I Die’ EP Review

Dylan Marlowe shares brand new EP, Dirt Road When I Die, out now, July 7th on all streaming platforms.  Listen to the new EP now.

Since making his major-label debut in January, Dylan Marlowe has been impressing fans across the country. The singer-songwriter had a knack for creating modern music that resonates across the genre. Today, his brand new project, Dirt Road When I Die is officially out featuring eight songs.

The new EP kicks off perfectly with Marlowe’s debut single, “Record High.” On the previously released track, the singer proves how talented of an artist he is. Easily a song that any established artist would love to cut, “Record High” is one of those special songs that cement the talent of an up and coming artist.

Dirt Road When I Die EP is full of those types of songs. From songs like “Record High” to touching songs for his wife like “You Were Right (Nat’s Song)” and everything in between, Marlowe proves his staying power. On the latter track, Marlowe tugs at the listeners’ heartstrings. “You Were Right” is quite possibly the engagement song of the year.

Marlowe’s songwriting talent continues to be on full display on songs like “Grew Up Country” and “Empty Shotgun (Mr. Mechanic).” Both songs showcase the singer’s fresh and authentic approach to music. “Grew Up Country” is Marlowe’s love letter to his hometown, while “Empty Shotgun” is a heart-wrenching, yet beautiful break-up song.

“Ain’t like there’s nothing in the tank // It’s full of 87 // I don’t think it’s what you think // Yeah, this thing runs like heaven // If you wanna know why // I can’t drive // When I climb in this truck // Yeah, it’s got a cab full of memories // And an empty shotgun”

Marlowe’s new songs, “What I Know Now,” the title track, and “Rich Kids” are impressive additions to the singer’s growing catalog of music. “What I Know Now” belongs on the radio because of its relatability and catchy melody, while “Rich Kids” is true, bottled up nostalgia in song-form. However, the title track, “Dirt Road When I Die” is a true standout on the EP. The song is a perfect accompaniment to “Grew Up Country.”

Although his career is still young, Marlowe proves with each and every release that he can hang with the best of them. The singer-songwriter knows how to craft a meaningful lyric and relays each message he writes with incredible ability and authentic vulnerability. Dirt Road When I Die EP is a solid record that deserves every fan it earns him!

Dirt Road When I Die EP Track List:

  1. Record High

As the country music genre continues to widen its reach and impact more and more people, we are getting to listen to new music with a fresh sound from exciting rising artists. Frank Ray is one of those artists. The singer-songwriter blends his Latin heritage and R&B influences into country music. His major-label debut, self-titled album is officially out now, featuring songs like “Streetlights” and “Country’d Look Good On You.”

“This album is my grand entrance to the country music world,” shares Ray in a recent press release. “This project is a perfect reflection of who I am. I have finally figured out my voice, and this is what I have to say. I look at this album like a quilt I knitted, each stitch represents a person I love or an influence I admire.”

Throughout the record fans can pick up on those enticing Latin influences on songs like “Ya’ll Showed Up,” “Let It Drop,” and “We Got Em.” All three of those songs have some of the most exciting instrumentals and catchy melodies we have heard come out of country music in a long time. Ray isn’t holding anything back on his debut.

The high-energy continues to flow throughout the record. On “Out On Me,” Ray brings the soul to the song. The track feels hopeful and high-spirited, a perfect combination for a beach-ready country song. Similarly on “Party With Strangers,” the singer encapsulates who he is perfectly. It is clear that Ray is someone who wants to spread joy and positivity to music and will make friends with everyone along the way.

While the singer’s unique sound is evident throughout the record, he pays homage to classic country greats throughout the project. On “Back Before My Time,” Ray sings the praises of artists like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Dolly Parton. While he is not directly referencing artists, the traditional country influence is also evident on some standout tracks like, “Somebody Else’s Whiskey” and “Big Fan.”

Each of Ray’s fifteen songs perfectly encapsulate who he is as an artist. Anyone who appreciates authenticity in music should jump on the Frank Ray bandwagon ASAP!

Who Is Cody Hibbard? The Story Behind His Journey to Country Music

Who is Cody Hibbard? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about his journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

Quick Facts:

Full Name – Cody Hibbard
Birthday – August 31st
Hometown – Adair, Oklahoma
Current City – Nashville, Tennessee
Musical Influences –Kings of Leon, Dierks Bentley, Travis Tritt
Label – Droptine Music
Current Single – “We Speak Country” (As of article date – 7/3/2023)

The Beginning:

Today’s spotlight artist is an incredible singer-songwriter from Adair, Oklahoma. Cody Hibbard may not fit the mold that people have made around country singers, but he is as real and as a talented as they come. Keep reading to learn more about his story.

“I was adopted when I was 13 months old to a family in Adair, Oklahoma,” began the singer. ” I grew up on a 368 acre farm. Farm life and country life was pretty much all I knew, and pretty much still all I know.” Despite learning to play guitar and piano when he was young, Hibbard never considered that music could be in his future. “I was always musically-inclined, but it was never on my mind that I was ever going to pursue this.”

Instead, he listened to music while working hard on the family farm or on drives with his parents. “I listened to mostly country music growing up […] When I would ride with mom, she would listen to Christian, gospel, music 24/7. […] That’s where you get some of the soul behind the music that I write,” he shared, adding, “Then my dad also loved classic rock. […] That’s where you get a lot of the heavy guitar and more of the polished sound in my music, because I enjoyed listening to everything from Def Leppard to whatever was playing on our local rock station.”

Hibbard also recalls developing a liking for artists like Dierks Bentley and Joe Nichols after attending a local festival in Oklahoma. “I remember that sound. It had that classic country vibe, but kind of more in your face so to say that I really liked.”

The Turning Point:

Armed with talent that he was never planning on using, Hibbard joined the United States Naval Academy after graduating high school. Unfortunately, he got hurt, which led him to head to college for a semester. “A buddy of mine asked if I wanted to go pipelining over the summer and we’ll go back to school in the fall, and I said sure. Went pipelining, got my first paycheck, and called mom and said I’m not going back to school.”

After pursuing a hardworking career in pipelining, Hibbard went to visit his friends in Texas in May of 2019. While at a restaurant, he noticed that the waiter was acting strange to which the waiter replied, “I don’t want to offend you…” Hibbard shared, “I said ‘there’s nothing in this world that will every offend me.’ And he said ‘You don’t sound how you look.’”

The singer’s friend went on to add, “man if you think that’s weird, you gotta hear him sing.” This led him to the opportunity to sing at the restaurant with just the three songs he knew how to play. The manager liked him so much that he invited him to come back to play a gig, after he learned more songs.

“I went and learned some songs, came back, and a few weeks later I met my guitar player and his brother. They asked if I knew how to write music and when I said no, they told me to try it out, and that’s how it all started!”

That incredible event led Hibbard to slowly start pursuing singing and writing music, even though he did not know what to expect from the music industry. He just continued to work “harder than anyone else.” “I was just thrown into this thing,” shared Hibbard, who eventually connected with the right people, landing himself a publishing deal with  Sony Music Publishing Nashville and Droptine Music.

Today:

Flash forward to today, Hibbard is continuing to grow his artistry as he releases more and more music out into the world. Recently the singer released, “We Speak Country” and “Beer Problem.” While both songs speak to the singer’s talent and charisma, “We Speak Country” speaks to Hibbard’s character and inclusivity.

“The song came to me and I kind of laughed […] I started really diving into it a little bit more, and I was like man this is everything that we do. This is that small town feeling without saying small town. It’s exactly how I grew up and at the same time,” he shared. “I hate this whole [country music debate], it irritates me because where I grew up everyone was country. It didn’t matter if you were the emo kid, to the rock and roller, to the jock, to the band nerd, because I was all of those. I loved Paramore as much as I loved being the drum major, as much as I loved being baseball captain. I was all that, and no one thought anything of being country or not country. It wasn’t a debate.”

Hibbard is building a fanbase that is accepting and inviting, even if you do not sound how you look. “This song is me to a tee. It’s where I grew up, but it’s also an anthem for a lot of us.” Fans can continue to look forward to more new music coming down the pipeline soon, as well as, more shows being added to the books as we speak!

Hibbard is bringing the honky-tonk to our ears with this new release. A fun-loving, summer-ready jam, “Beer Problem” is the perfect addition to your music playlists. The song is a light-hearted take on solving all your problems with a beer after a long work day. Shane Profitt Shares Vulnerable New Song “Still Picks Up”

Shane Profitt releases new song, “Still Picks Up,” out now on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track here and learn more.

Breakout artist, Shane Profitt is one of the hardest working new artists in country music right now. The singer-songwriter creates music that feels personal to him and relatable to fans. Today, Profitt is sharing one of his most vulnerable songs to date called, “Still Picks Up.”

The new song is a reminder to everyone to stay in touch with the people we love. Profitt wrote this song after his father suffered a stroke, and he did not know if he would ever see him again. When you go through panic, fear, and sadness, after a life-altering event, it can feel very isolating; however, Profitt is reminding everyone that we are certainly not alone. He is also reminding everyone to hug their loved ones a little tighter.

“I had no idea if I’d ever see him again,” shared the singer in a recent press release.“When you’re about to lose someone that means so much, you start to reflect on the stupid fights that could have been avoided and all the things you should have said. By the grace of God, my father is okay and here with me today. So, I wrote “Still Picks Up” to remind us to call those important folks in our lives while they can still pick up the phone, because tomorrow is not promised.”

Profitt grows with each and every release he puts out. “Still Picks Up” is quite possibly his best release to date!

10 Country Songs To Add To Your 4th of July Playlist

Here are 10 country songs to add to your 4th of July playlist to keep you celebrating all summer long. Follow along as we dive into incredible country songs.

country-songs-4th-of-july

“American Kids” – Kenny Chesney
The number one pick is, and will always be “American Kids” by Kenny Chesney. This is one of the most perfect modern country songs and will be considered a country standard for years to come. It is a one-of-a-kind recording and the storytelling is fantastic as well.

“I Was Jack (You Were Diane)” – Jake Owen
While most of Jake Owen’s music catalog could make this list, the modern take on John Mellencamp’s legendary “Jack & Diane” is just too fun and American to be excluded.

“Red, Wine & Blue” – Hailey Whitters
The only sad song on this playlist is perhaps my favorite pick, but that’s coming from someone who can be at my happiest and will queue devastating songs. “Red, Wine & Blue” is poetic and has the most gorgeous, warm classic country elements to it. Released on the 4th in 2019, it would only be right to include this – perhaps when the night is winding down post-fireworks.

“Raised On It-” – Sam Hunt
Any song on Sam Hunt’s 2013 debut Montevallo screams summer. Even the sad songs, which is rare. “Raised On It” is just so joyful and quintessential coming-of-age American that it has to be on your playlist.

“All My Favorite People” – Maren Morris & Brothers Osborne
If a song sounded like a party, it would be this cut off Maren Morris’ 2019 record GIRL. It perfectly encapsulates enjoying the simple things in life with your closest friends.

“Drink In My Hand” – Eric Church
Would it be the 4th of July without Eric Church on aux? There are so many songs in his discography that would be perfect for 4th of July, but “Drink In My Hand” is a standout. Everyone can relate to it, American or not.

“Something Like That” – Tim McGraw
’90s country is always a must and to only pick one is incredibly difficult. It’s a great sing-along in the summer and tells such a great country story – authentically American.

“Boondocks” – Little Big Town
Sonically, “Boondocks” is a crucial addition to any 4th of July playlist, but even more so, there will be many people celebrating the 4th in the Boondocks. The way the song builds is enough to get anyone excited and ready to party.

“On The Road Again” – Willie Nelson
Since 1973, Willie Nelson has hosted a 4th of July picnic/concert in Austin, Texas, so it would only be fitting to celebrate the American – moreover, the universally beloved, icon on this holiday.

“Soak Up The Sun” – Sheryl Crow
Sheryl Crow is a summer staple! However, this song does not get as much as play as it deserves. If you haven’t yet, you should add her to your 4th of July and general summer mixes.

Russell Dickerson: ‘Three Months Two Streets Down’ EP Review

Russell Dickerson shares brand new EP, Three Months Two Streets Down, out now, June 27th on all streaming platforms.  Listen to the new EP now.

Russell Dickerson can truly do no wrong! Every song he touches is a certified hit. In his brand new summer-ready EP, Three Months Two Streets Down, Dickerson proves his staying power with just five incredible songs.

The project kicks off with “Ride The Wave.” An absolute slow-jam, Dickerson’s vocals are on full display on this catchy tune. The track has summertime romance written all over it. Even though summer loves do not alway last, Dickerson emotes how it feels to just go with the flow, despite the impending outcome.

Next up, “Down on the Beach,” is the perfect summer-bop. Seemingly inspired by his beach days with his beautiful wife, the song has all the summer staples. This song is made to blast, while chilling on the beach with your loved ones or spending the day out on the water. Dickerson is coming for that king of summer with this jam.

Similar to the vibe of the opening track, “Steal My Summer” is a love song about a budding relationship. Dickerson is a pro at creating romantic songs that make us all believe in love. While “Steal My Summer” is still about that summer fling, it still has that same honesty and desirability as old-school RD tracks like “Yours.”

“Beauty and the Beach” feels like a fun pop-country riff off Justin Bieber’s popular song, “Beauty And A Beat,” in the best way. While clearly, all about love and summertime like the rest of the EP, “Beauty and the Beach” is the clear anthem on the project. The song would make the perfect addition to Dickerson’s live set.

Much like “Ride The Wave,” the final track, “SMR LV” bookends the project with nostalgia and love. “SMR LV,” aka summer love feels like the culmination of the love story expressed in “Ride The Wave.” While the song has a tinge of sadness for the ending of the season, it feels like the perfect conclusion for the stellar project.

Although just five songs, Three Months Two Streets Down will get you excited for more Russell Dickerson music to come! The record highlights all the things we have grown to love about RD and his undeniable talent, charm, and charisma.

Three Months Two Streets Down EP Track List:

  1. Ride The Wave
  2. Down on the Beach
  3. Steal My Summer
  4. Beauty and the Beach
  5. SMR LV

Who Is VAVO? The Story Behind Their Journey To ‘YEEDM’

Who is VAVO? The DJ duo behind the ‘YEEDM’ movement joined us to chat about their journey so far. Get to know the rising stars here…

who-is-vavo

Quick Facts:

Full Name – VAVO (Jesse Fischer and Alden Martin)
Birthday – Jesse: 2/28; Alden: 11/13
Hometown – Jesse: Vancouver, Canada; Alden: Surrey, United Kingdom
Current City – Windsor, California
Musical Influences – Avicii, Diplo
Label – KESS Records
Current Single – “We Got History Remix” (As of article date – 6/26/2023)

The Beginning:

This week we are finally sharing the story behind the YEEDM experts, VAVO, comprised of the talented Jesse Fischer and Alden Martin. We hosted VAVO at Rockaway Beach last month for a sold-out event, so it is clear that both country and EDM fans alike are loving the DJ duo.

Both men gravitated towards music at different times in their lives. For Jesse, who grew up in Canada, his love for music grew over time. It culminated on a spring break trip that changed his life for the better. “I got into music about 2012,” he began. “I went to a spring break in Cancun, Mexico, and there were a bunch of big DJs playing at the nightclubs and stuff, and after that I was like, this is really cool, I want to do that. So after that, I came home, quit my job, bought a little DJ board and started DJing.”

On the other hand, Alden was introduced to Dance and EDM music at just ten years old, but gravitated more towards the production side of music. “For me, it was kind of the other side of it. It was more from the production side. My uncle sort of introduced me to dance and house music back when I was ten,” he shared. Adding “During school, I really wanted to learn how to make and build a beat in all the music and records, so I was looking online, and downloaded some music software and started doing it every day for a couple of years.”

Both men began creating and releasing music separately on their own before Alden came across Jesse on social media. “I think I messaged him back in 2015 because I had heard one of his songs, and I said ‘Hey we should collab together. It would be really cool to work together.’ So we did that.”

Soon there after, they became VAVO, combining their wide variety of influences from artists like Avicii, Diplo, and David Guetta into a new sound that was all their own. “We’re not limited to one genre, so we take inspiration from a multitude of people, whether it be Avicii, David Guetta, a bunch of smaller guys too. And now we’re more into the country-pop stuff.”

The Turning Point:

Upon connecting via social media, VAVO recalls speaking everyday for a year before even releasing music together. When their first release performed well on Soundcloud, it was evident that they had to move forward together with their music. “I think we have had the success we have had because we come from different backgrounds and different tastes in music. It’s just a good melting pot,” shared the duo.

In their blossoming career, VAVO scored a number one song on the Dance music charts, as well as, gained notoriety on social media. The transition to YEEDM music has also grown their fanbase. It all started with a remix of Morgan Wallen’s catchy song, “Last Night.”

“Alden was back in the UK visiting family and Morgan’s album was coming out. I was talking to our friend, Daniel, D’lay and I was like ‘I really like this song, “Last Night” with Morgan Wallen’, so we took a crack at it,” shared Jesse. While Alden added, “I’d never heard of Morgan Wallen before being from the UK, but I loved it. […] We finished it while I was on the plane coming back, and we posted that TikTok and it blew up.”

VAVO received an incredible response from the remix when they shared it on social media. “The response that we had from that remix and “YEEDM,” we have never seen it before with anything we have ever done. It was cool because we were getting country fans who were die-hard country fans and others who were die-hard EDM fans, and it was just this mixture of both.”

The duo went on to add that while they are not the first DJs to remix country music, they are one of the firsts to truly embrace the genre. “There were artists who had remixed country songs before, but nobody had really dove completely into it and taken on the kind of YEEDM image like we have,” they shared. Adding, “Fans could tell that we were really leaning into it […]. It’s the perfect timing to have that crossover stuff.”

Today:

Flash forward to today, the new genre has taken a league of it’s own. The combination of country music and EDM, dubbed ‘YeeDM’, has fans from all genres coming together to listen and dance to the country music lyrics over dance remixes. Fans are still bumping VAVO’s mix of Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night”, as well as, new remixes of artists like Luke Combs and Priscilla Block. Most recently VAVO with D’lay combined their talents to remix Mitchell Tenpenny’s killer song, “We Got History,” which was officially released to all streaming platforms.

“We got a notification that Mitchell Tenpenny duetted our remix on TikTok and we were like “no way”,” VAVO shared when asked how the collaboration came to be. “He loved the remix and he sent us the original demos and stuff and we worked to finish it, and it just happened like that.”

The song is already exceeding expectations, growing both VAVO and Tenpenny’s fanbases. “It’s honestly crazy. A lot of these country artists, the power of social media, that remix is doing crazy numbers already really just based on social push.”

While remixes have clearly been successful for VAVO, original music is on the horizon. “For us, it’s going to be working with artists on original music. We’re going to Nashville next week for a week of just writing with a whole bunch of singer-songwriters. It’s really just developing a lot of originals and really solidifying ourselves in this kind of new genre I guess,” they shared.

Fans can be on the look out for more new music and more shows. It is only just the beginning for the incredible duo, and they are definitely about to take it to the next level! Make sure you’re following @CountrySwag on Instagram to find out when we’ll be hosting the duo next!
