With his fifth studio album Late Nights and Longnecks on the horizon, Justin Moore recently released the powerful music video to his first single, “The Ones That Didn’t Make It Back Home.” Moore co-wrote the heartfelt ballad with Paul DiGiovanni, Jeremy Stover, and Chase McGill.
“The Ones That Didn’t Make It Back Home” honors the men and woman who risk their lives serving our country, as well as the first responders that put their lives in danger day in and day out. Directed by Cody Villalobos, the music video depicts an emotional storyline of real-world heroes. A somber woman planning a welcome home BBQ for a deployed soldier is faced with the reality that her loved one will not be coming home. A police officer and firefighter are running in to save lives all while risking their own, and a teacher is shielding her students from gunfire during a school shooting. Each storyline and character is connected, proving how small the world is and how we all need to respect and love one another.
Moore honors these incredible individuals with lyrics, “Here’s to the ones that didn’t make it back home/the ones we ain’t seen in so long/the hold up a beer ones/the wish they were here ones/the not forgotten but gone.” The chorus continues reminding us “They’re in a better place up there/But they sure left a hole down here/We just go on livin’ and go on missin’ the ones/The ones that didn’t make it back home.”
The singer-songwriter dedicates the touching video to all of the innocent lives that were lost and their grieving families by showing a quote at the very end stating, “Here’s to the families that live in the reality of this video, and to the ones that didn’t make it back home.” Moore’s upcoming album Late Nights and Longnecks is set to be released on April 26th and he is touring throughout 2019! On the heels of releasing his most personal album to date, Magnolia, singer-songwriter Randy Houser takes on late night television. Houser took the stage at the venue on Hollywood Boulevard in California to perform for fans, as part of the Jimmy Kimmel LIVE! concert series sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, making his television debut performance of his bluesy song, “What Whiskey Does.”
Host Jimmy Kimmel eagerly introduced the singer to the audience with his record in hand, “This is his album. It’s called Magnolia. Here with the song, “What Whiskey Does,” with help from Hillary Lindsey, Randy Houser!” The camera quickly moved to showcase a beaming Houser and his four-piece band, ready to rock on stage. The entertainer was joined by fellow songwriter, Lindsey, who lent her voice to both the live performance and the recorded track.
Houser gave fans an epic rendition of his new song, showcasing his beautiful voice, as well as, his guitar skills, while Lindsey provided delicate harmonies to the already enticing track. About midway through the performance, Houser belted the lyrics, proving, once again, why he is one of the best vocalists in country music. The live studio audience immediately erupted into applause. Houser’s performance ended with some acapella notes, followed by an awesome guitar solo.
Just prior to his Kimmel performance, Houser released the official music video for “What Whiskey Does.” The video follows a potential couple, as they navigate the highs and the lows of their relationship, starting in a bar. The singer acts as the lyrical narrator to the song, as well as, makes a cameo as the bartender. The images are raw, real, and vulnerable, just like the song. Watch the full video below.
Next up for Houser, he will play some shows, fairs, and rodeos throughout the month of February. As of right now, he is not scheduled to play any shows in the New York area anytime soon, but keep checking our calendar to see if any shows are added in the future.

Just days after the release of her new album, Stages, independent artist Cassadee Pope, appeared on NBC’s Today Show for the second time. She took the stage during the 9 AM hour with co-anchors Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones, Dylan Dreyer, and Craig Melvin to perform on The Artist Lounge presented by Today. The Artist Lounge is where our favorite singers will be performing stripped down versions of their songs and this week it was Pope’s turn performing the T.V. debut of her new single, “If My Heart Had A Heart.”
Before performing her emotional ballad, co-anchors, Roker, Jones, Dreyer, and Melvin came to the stage to introduce and talk to the singer-songwriter. While welcoming her, they played a short clip showing Pope’s story, mentioning that she won The Voice back in 2012 along with many of her other musical accomplishments throughout the years. After the clip, Pope couldn’t stop smiling while mentioning she was so excited. Once she was introduced, Melvin had one question for the singer-songwriter saying, “You’re going on tour, by the way, you got a big tour coming up but the title of the album, stages, What’s behind that?” Pope replying, “So it’s basically an album I’ve been writing over the last year and a half and lots happened in my life so it just explains all the stages I’ve been through.”
After the brief interview, it was the moment viewers at home had been waiting for. Pope appeared on stage with only a cello and keyboard player to perform her stripped down version of “If My Heart Had AHeart.” She belted out the lyrics over the instruments, putting her beautiful vocals on full display while leaving viewers at home with chills. Pope captivated her audience with her passion-filled performance showcasing her talent along with the song’s vulnerability and pain of heartbreak. At the end of the song, the studio erupted in cheers.
Luckily for New Yorkers, we can catch Cassadee Pope on CMT’s Next Women of Country Tour with special guests Hannah Ellis and Clare Dunn, hitting the Gramercy Theater on April 26th!

Friday, Feb 1st brought unseasonably warm weather – but that wasn’t the only thing that had Fort Worth, Texas locals happy. TCU alumni and Austin resident Rob Baird was playing Fort Worth Live, celebrating the release of his new album, After All, that was released earlier this year. Held on the second story of the Juvenile Shoe Store, Fort Worth Live was the perfect venue for Baird fans to share an intimate evening listening to the singer-songwriter’s hits and even sharing a drink with him. The venue hosted 130 of Baird fans old and young, all singing along to his music.
The show began with Fort Worth local, Parker Chapin. As Chapin began to sing he quickly won over the crowd with his eclectic vocals and beautiful lyrics.
Baird opened up the show strumming away to one of his new songs “I Tried”. His fans listened intensely once he was done as he talked about his TCU days, his brief stint in Nashville and finally how he made the move to Austin. He also discussed how the album After All came to be – a shotgun romance with an actress from California. “Fade Away”, “Give Me Back Love” and “Best That I Was” were also some other hits played on this February night. Baird played a heck of a show, especially considering he was up before dawn for Good Day Fox 4 Dallas. He provided the perfect blend between hits from his previous albums and his newest masterpiece.
What was most intriguing about Baird was his connection to his fans, college students, young couples and even older adults all seem to have had the same enthusiasm for the Tennesee native. His lyrics speak to them, connecting fans from all over the country. The night was filled with sharing stories and the intimate setting was unforgettable for the fans in attendance.

“I was always wanting to be apart of the national scene”
Growing up on a family ranch outside of the Dallas, Texas area, Jenna Paulette was heavily influenced by many country musical artists, notably George Strait and the Dixie Chicks. “I think I fell in love with, especially George Strait, the way that he takes songs that just make you feel something and the pedal steel in most of his stuff is just so hauntingly beautiful and communicates emotion I think better than words do sometimes and I was just romanced by that whole idea,” she told us in a recent interview. “I related to George because he kinda represents all of my favorite men in my life like my grandfather is a cowboy and taught me everything I know about cattle and I just really respect who he is as a person and what he represents as a man and so I think I just took all of that and was like ‘If I can make people feel the way George Strait makes me feel then I’ll be doing a good job,’ that’s a major goal for me.” “Cowboy Take Me Away” and “Wide Open Spaces” by Dixie Chicks were among songs that made Paulette feel those things, while she was experiencing life on a ranch.
Singing in choir herself, her mother recognized the talent and passion Paulette had for country music at a very young age and always encouraged her dreams. Paulette was apart of four choirs in high school, including an all-state team group a regional group. Everything she experienced from life on the ranch made her recognize she always wanted to pursue country music as a career. Paulette started writing music in college and became more interested in the people who were writing her favorite songs rather than the artists who were singing them, “I would read the back of Carrie Underwoods’ records and be like ‘Oh my gosh, who are writing these songs that are making me cry’ and one of them was Ashley Gorley.” After college, Paulette visited Nashville when she was introduced to Gorley by the wife of the pastor of Gorley’s church. Shortly after meeting the hit-making songwriter, Paulette sent Gorley the first songs she had ever written which grew into him seeing the potential in her and coached her into commercial country songwriting. Continuing to be her mentor for the next couple of years, Paulette was traveling back and forth from Texas to Nashville, visiting Nashville once a month for a week at a time writing as many songs as she could with Gorley. He then sat her down, telling her “If you want to play this game, you have to be present to win.” Paulette then made the move to Nashville at the beginning of 2016.
Meeting with labels, she would describe her style of music as a cowgirl vibe which resulted in being pitched with songs that would be “too western” or “so pop it wasn’t country at all,” that’s when she knew she would have to show everyone what she meant. “One day I was on this road trip and the words ‘New West’ came into mind because I was like I’m a cowgirl but I’m so not like old school cowgirl, I’m a new version of whatever that means and all of the feelings that come along with it that you love about me, the west and the ideas of the west and new west popped into my brain and that just kind of became my goal and I started writing towards that and everything started making sense.” Paulette describes ‘New West’ as commercial country music with western ideas and undertones and a slight bit of pop underneath. She then moved on to release three songs with corresponding music videos on CMT last fall that made those people in Nashville begin to understand her sound. “I am really thankful that it didn’t happen before now because I don’t think I knew who I was in a way that I could make a whole career out of it and I think everything happens for a reason and I’m extremely thankful for all the voices that coached me along the way,” she tells us.
Paulette is a member of Song Suffragettes, an all-female songwriting collective in Nashville. It wasn’t until joining the prominent group that she noticed the lack of women being played on country radio. The Texas-native feels a sense of obligation for the future of female airplay, “It put responsibility on me like, okay, well what’s my part in all of this and how do I break down the barrier myself and do such a good job that they want to play what I’m putting out… Let’s be so good they can’t ignore it.”
Her current single, “F-150,” co-written with Mark Trussell, was the “it” song for her. On her way to the writing session with Trussell, Paulette pulled into three different parking lots to stop and note the melody of the chorus and idea for the hook that popped into her head immediately. It took Trussell and Paulette two writing sessions to complete the song’s lyrics. She tells us she feels the spacing of the hook makes the whole thing make sense, “Baby drive me… crazy, like you drive your F-150”
“F-150 is apart of her lane as where she wants to continue to grow as an artist and the type of song that she is passionate about and can sing over and over again and enjoy herself every single time. This is the type of song she feels equipped with to play in arenas one day.
Gaining some experience by opening for Zac Brown Band, she loves to watch artists who are exactly where she wants to be in the future, taking notes from the people who inspire her. Paulette is gearing up to release an EP this year, along with two more visually artistic music videos for new songs. Keep up with the new western artist on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

When it comes to some of the coolest clothes in country music, you can look no further than NYCountry Swag. I mean, have you seen our new baseball caps?! Since NYCS has our own brand of country music inspired merchandise, we started thinking about the correlation between country music and clothes and came up with a list of our favorite songs about articles of clothing.
From “Red High Heels” to “Pink Sunglasses” and from “T-Shirt” to “The Jacket,” here are some of our favorite country songs about clothing.
1. Thomas Rhett: T-Shirt
On “T-Shirt,” Thomas Rhett celebrates young love, reckless nights, and the morning after one of those wild nights. “Next thing I know you were wearing my T-Shirt right there,” Rhett sings. “Your hair messed up like a Guns-N-Roses video.” “T-Shirt” hit number one on the Country Airplay charts and appeared on Rhett’s 2015 album Tangled Up. The fun piece of country-pop perfection was written by superstar writers, Ashley Gorley, Luke Laird, and Shane McAnally.
2. Ashley McBryde: The Jacket
2018 was a huge breakout year for Ashley McBryde on the heels of her album Girl Going Nowhere featuring songs like “A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega” and “American Scandal.” However, arguably the most personal track on the album is “The Jacket,” co-written by McBryde, Olivia Rudeen, and Neal Coty. On the autobiographical track, McBryde sings about her father and an old denim jacket that “has seen better days,” but has experienced more than most people, including “2,000 bonfires, a hitchhike to Boulder,” and that has “seen Willie Nelson in four or five states.” Sadly, the star of this song was stolen from McBryde in October 2017 when someone broke into her truck in East Nashville while she was away playing a show.
3. Dylan Scott: Ball Cap
On “Ball Cap,” Dylan Scott celebrates the way his girl looks in one of his beloved baseball caps. While the girl “don’t know a thing about the Braves” and “could care less about the game,” Scott admits that he “wore it all the time, but it’s never been worn like that.” The twangy, up-tempo track appeared on Scott’s debut self-titled album and was co-written by Scott, Cassidy Lynn Alexander, and Forest Whitehead.
4. Miranda Lambert: Pink Sunglasses
Written by Luke Dick, Natalie Hemby, and Rodney Clawson, Miranda Lambert’s “Pink Sunglasses” is a moment of levity on 2016’s double album, The Weight of These Wings. Lambert’s sunglasses may have only been $9.99, but prove that an impulse purchase may sometimes be the best thing that happens to someone. “In my pink sunglasses, always makes the world a little better,” Lambert sings. “You can try ’em any time you need a change of weather.”
5. Kellie Pickler: Red High Heels
In 2006, Kellie Pickler released Small Town Girl, featuring the hit single “Red High Heels,” strutting her way right into the hearts of country music fans. While she may have finished sixth on the fifth season of American Idol, Pickler parlayed that into a music career thanks to her debut single about a girl’s favorite pair of shoes. Written by Pickler, Christopher March Lindsey, Karyn Rochelle, and Aimee Mayo, “Red High Heels” is about a girl leaving a no-good guy in the sassiest way possible. “Well, you can watch me walk if you want to, want to, I’ll bet you want me back now, don’t you, don’t you?” Pickler sings, “I’m about to show you just how missin’ me feels in my red high heels.”
6. Jerrod Niemann: Blue Bandana
On 2015’s “Blue Bandana,” Jerrod Niemann pay homage to music’s favorite festivals and unique attire. Written by Ben Goldsmith, CJ Solar, and Andrew Scott Wills, “Blue Bandana” would not have sounded out of place on a Kenny Chesney record. It’s a light, summery tune about a girl sporting a blue bandana who Niemann meets at Merle Fest. While Niemann declines the chance to accompany her on her “gyspy dream” festival-hopping, he spends his time in his “beat up van,” and “driving across the land, looking for a blue bandana.”
7. Jon Pardi: Cowboy Hat
“Cowboy Hat” is the second track on Jon Pardi’s 2016 album, California Sunrise, and it’s a fun country tune celebrating the genre’s most famous accessory. Co-written by Pardi, Brett Beavers, and Bart Butler, the song is an ode to a girl who looks good in nothing but Pardi’s hat. With his traditional style and southern twang, on “Cowboy Hat,” Pardi croons for her to “come a little closer, give me some of that, Baby, you look so good, in nothing but my cowboy hat.”

Leaving her record label in 2017, Cassadee Pope just released her anticipated, vulnerable album stages as an independent artist. The record includes 11 tracks, 8 co-written by Pope, giving a personal look into her life over the past year.
The singles she released prior to the album release, “Take You Home,” “One More Red Light”, and “If My Heart Had A Heart” was just a glimpse of what has finally arrived. Her catchy track “FYI” shows a sassy, fierce side to the album. The lyrics focus on how she won’t bite her tongue on this “boy trying to make girl jealous” situation. The melody built up in the lyrics “While he was flyin’ you to Vegas and all our favorite places / Always runnin’ ‘round with each other / He was sayin’ that he missed me, and damn girl you look pretty / I don’t think you’d like how he was lookin’ at me,” Pope unleashes the power of her voice and fiery side she’s taking on.
Her catchy track “Distracted,” was penned with some of Pope’s talented friends and fellow artists Lauren Alaina, Lindsay Ell, and RaeLynn. This playful love song has a groovy, country twang feel that makes the song a highlight on the album. Other songs on the album including “Don’t Ask Me” and “I Feel Good” are the most relatable track for anyone going through a breakup. They’re vulnerable, real, and personable. Pope also included “Gavi” an emotional tribute to one of her close friends and musician, Jason Gaviati, who passed away in 2015. The 90-second track includes Gaviati playing a heart-wrenching piano melody that hits close to home.
Pope’s new album stages is an inspiring, personal record that’s worth the listen. Make sure to catch Pope out on the CMT New Women Of Country Tour 2019 to see her perform these beautifully penned tracks.
