Kane Brown Performs “Lose It” on LIVE with Kelly and Ryan

Country star, Kane Brown is in New York City this week to celebrate the upcoming release of his sophomore album, Experiment, dropping on November 9th. Check back for our First Impression Review of the album on Friday. Today, the singer-songwriter, visited co-hosts, Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest on ABC’s ‘LIVE with Kelly and Ryan’ to close out the show.

Seacrest gave a warm introduction to the singer’s performance, “Our next guest recently took home three American Music Awards, including one for ‘Favorite Male Artist.’ His sophomore album drops this Friday. Here’s Kane Brown with his new hit “Lose It.” Kane, take it away.” The crowd immediately erupted into screams and applause, as Brown appeared on stage, mic in hand, with a five-piece band to back him up. “Everybody, stand up for me, c’mon,” the singer exclaimed, just before singing the opening lyrics to his new song, “Lose It.”

The always stylish, personable, and edgy singer had a blast on the stage, showcasing some of his signature dance moves and showcasing his raspy, deep voice to belt the lyrics to the newly released song. The entertainer has also dropped his tracks, “Good As You,” and “Short Skirt Weather” off his sophomore record. Although Brown was clearly center of attention, he gave the guitarists some time to shine, as they shredded the guitar strings, adding killer instrumentals to the performance.

This performance, which you can check out above, gave fans a taste of what the entertainer’s live shows and recently announced 2019 tour, ‘Live Forever Tour’ will be like. The headlining tour will feature country singers, Granger Smith, Raelynn, Danielle Bradbery, and Jimmie Allen on select dates, as direct support. New Yorkers who were lucky enough to score tickets for Brown’s special one-night-only concert in collaboration with Budweiser at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden on November 7th, will sure to witness some of the new tracks live, just prior to album release day. Find tickets for the show here.

NYCS 2018 Artist to Watch Where Are They Now: Ryan Kinder

Here at New York Country Swag, we pride ourselves on being tastemakers, finding and championing new and up-and-coming artists and introducing our followers to the best of the best of the rising acts. Back in January of this year we named the 10 artists below in our “Artists to Watch in 2018” and we are proud to say, we know rising talent before they make it big. Someone to add to your watchlist is Ryan Kinder.

Ryan Kinder

Ryan grew up the youngest of three in Birmingham, Alabama. By age 15, he was playing everywhere he could — at church, school, or even bars, where his father had to chaperone. In 2011, Ryan made his way to Nashville after an EF4 tornado ripped across Tuscaloosa, AL and the University of Alabama neighborhood where he lived. The traumatizing event convinced him that “life’s too short” and that he needed to go all in to chase his dream. Not long after arriving in Music City that Kinder was signed to his first publishing and major record deal.  As a seasoned performer, Kinder has toured with country superstars like Zac Brown Band, Tim McGraw, Darius Rucker, Brett Eldredge, Ashley McBryde, and more getting massive exposure to fans and attention to his music. Because of this, his fan base is racking up new followers like crazy. Although it was not until this past year that Kinder has been seen by all country music fans as he has established himself as a force to be reckoned with.

Ryan’s musical style is uniquely his own, mixed with elements of southern-roots, rock, and blues, which he describes as “riff-roaring rock, with a side of sweet Southern soul.” His songs “Close,” “Tonight,” “Alabama” and “Still Believe In Crazy Love” have become fan favorites and accumulated more than 50 million on-demand streams across the globe. Kinder just finished his tour, alongside Drake White, in the UK that proved to be highly successful. He travels across the pond quite often and never ceases to be amazed at the fan base he has grown there. From sold out shows to screaming fans, Kinder’s success is reaching far beyond the United States. He has performed in 2018 for the UK’s Country Music Week and C2C Road Show Tour. If you think that is impressive, he has also performed all across Europe, including a sold-out performance in July at London’s Hyde Park featuring Eric Clapton, Santana, and Gary Clark Jr.

The singer-songwriter wrapped up his own headlining tour across the country stopping at 14 different cities. He has been praised for leaving his heart and soul out on the stage, hoping that fans appreciate his dedication. “It’s incredible how the fans know all the songs so well now,” says Kinder in a recent press release. “I end each set with ‘Still Believe In Crazy Love’ and I don’t even have to sing the last chorus as everyone just sings it back to me. That’s the biggest form of appreciation an artist can get.”

Kinder’s new EP “The Road” is set to release in 2019 although fans have gotten a look into three songs that will be featured on the album. One of the most anticipated songs “Stay” already has over a million streams and a brand new lyric video for it as well. The song delivers an emotional message with Kinder’s skilled vocals and high-impact guitar solos.

His newest song, “Leap of Faith”, features his signature guitar licks and characterized lyrics. Realizing that nothing is for certain, you just have to take the leap of faith. If you have not listened to his music yet, you need to because Ryan Kinder is a name you will not forget after hearing to his captivating vocals and insightful lyrics.

Dancing With The Stars Goes Full On Country

Last night (Nov. 5) ABC’s hit dance competition show, Dancing with the Stars, went full-on country. From live performances by Carly Pearce, LANCO, Lauren Alaina, Cole Swindell, and Chris Janson, to video clips sent in from your favorite country stars, as well as each and every dance number choreographed to country hits, it was a jam-packed night for all country music fans to tune in.

The night kicked off with the cast’s opening number to Luke Bryan’s hit “Move” and later in the evening, the pro-dancers also performed an elegant routine to “Mercy” by Brett Young.  Just like every other night, each “star” and their “pro” were assigned a song and a style of dance. Songs last night included: “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton, “Burning Man” by Dierks Bentley feat. Brothers Osborne, “Thank God I’m A Country Boy” by John Denver and “One Shot” by Hunter Hayes.

Four of the eight remaining couples were lucky enough to be assisted by live performances from some of our favorite country stars.  Carly Pearce performed “Every Little Thing” with contestants Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe for their rumba. From the smoke on the ground to Pearce’s angelic vocals, this performance was nothing short of breathtaking.

Crowd-pleasers Milo Manheim and Witney Carson were assisted with their foxtrot by the platinum-selling country band, LANCO with their upbeat love song “Born To Love You.” The contestants delivered the foxtrot with perfection while also shining the spotlight on the 2018 CMA Vocal Group of the Year nominees.

Contestants Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten danced the samba to Lauren Alaina’s newest single, “Ladies in the 90’s.” The 2018 CMA New Artist of the Year nominee assisted with a fun performance, styled in a pair of black overalls, sticking to the 90’s theme of her song.

Before well-known country radio DJ, Bobby Bones and his partner Sharna Burgess’ Viennese waltz to CMA Music Video of the Year, New Artist of the Year and Song of the Year nominee, Chris Janson’s rendition of the timeless classic “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” Bones received some good luck messages from a few of his superstar friends including Kelsea Ballerini, Dan + Shay, Dolly Parton, and Dustin Lynch. Originally performed by Elvis Presley, Janson’s version contributed to the elegant feel of the routine and assisted his friend in earning his highest score of the season thus far.

Cole Swindell also stopped by for a performance of his latest single “Love You Too Late.” Closing out the show, the eight couples were split into two teams to choreograph two different freestyle group routines; Team Hay Now and Team Joe Down.

Team Hay Now consisted of Bones and Burgess, Lynch and Motsepe, Manheim and Carson and John Schneider and Emma Slater. Their song was“9 to 5” by Dolly Parton.

Team Joe Down was comprised of Ren and Bersten, DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold, Joe Amabile and Jenna Johnson and Juan Pablo Di Pace and Cheryl Burke. Their song was “Country Girl” by Luke Bryan.

You can catch these country stars along with many others next Wednesday night (Nov. 14) at the 2018 CMA Awards airing live from Nashville, Tennessee on ABC at 8/7c.

Teddy Robb followed the trend and played some of his new music that is slated for his forthcoming debut EP that he hinted at was coming in the new year. “Me On You”, “Tell Me How”, and “Longer Goodbye” were all sung and are now on top of the list of highly anticipated songs. “Tell Me How” is the story of getting over a breakup. All he wants is to hear from his ex, how she is doing, where she is, and if she has gotten over him and then how he can do the same. Another favorite is “Longer Goodbye”, a song about how each time you head back home for a visit, your goodbyes get a little bit longer, noticing how quickly time passes.

Robb has been working with some of the best songwriters and producers, including SmackSongs, as he gets ready to release new music. Between being featured on multiple Spotify playlists, including New Boots, Wild Country, and Hot Country, and playing more shows than ever around Nashville, he is gaining recognition from around the country music industry. Check out our highlights from two other events he played at here and here.

Blake Shelton Appears on Ellen & Laughs About Halloween Costume

Blake Shelton Ellen

The Voice judge and country music icon, Blake Shelton, appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today and he had a lot to talk about!  Shelton sat down with Ellen DeGeneres to talk about his time as People Magazine’s 2017 Sexiest Man Alive. “I feel like sexy ends when… I’m not Sexiest Man Alive any more” he laughed. DeGeneres also questioned how it has affected his relationship with girlfriend Gwen Stefani. “It’s supposed to be like a superpower or whatever, you know what I’m saying? I don’t think she felt the power,” Shelton jokes.

Shelton also dished that Stefani was to blame for his Halloween costume debacle. The duo planned to dress up for a Halloween birthday party, and Stefani had bought Shelton a costume from the Disney movie, Incredibles. The joke was on him when he ended up wearing a sailor costume and another guest had mistaken him as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters.

“So it’s the birthday party and Gwen had gotten me an Incredibles costume, the dad. And I put it on and it literally — this was here in L.A. — it was like putting on a thick coat because it had muscles and I don’t have real muscles… So I didn’t like that, it was too hot,” Shelton says. “So she said, ‘There’s a sailor costume you can put on. Just put that on. I don’t care.'” He continued…”So I put that on and I swear to God, Ellen, I swear, I walk into the party and the very first person walked up to me and asked me if I was the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man,” Shelton continues. “I swear! And they’re right. They’re exactly right!”

The two also talked about Shelton’s vodka brand Smithworks, which they both took a shot of right in the middle of their interview. After they drank together, they talked about his unfortunate fall on stage.  Watch the clip here.

At the end of their chat, Shelton revealed details about his upcoming “Friends & Heroes Tour”. The tour will begin in February 2019. Lauren Alaina, the Bellamy Brothers, John Anderson, and Trace Adkins are acting as direct support for the tour.  Although the tour isn’t hitting New York City, Shelton will be in Uncasville, CT at Mohegan Sun Arena on March 21st and 22nd. You can also catch him on The Voice every Monday and Tuesday night.

Pistol Annies Grace the Stage in NYC on Album Release Day

Pistol Annies NYC

Ashley Monroe, Angaleena Presley, Miranda Lambert

As fans waited for the iconic trio, the Pistol Annies, to take over beautiful Town Hall in New York City, on album release day, the buzz in the room was evident. Concert-goers were eager to see the Annies take the stage, after their several year hiatus for what would be an epic 75-minute performance.

The second the ladies emerged on stage, standing in front of their appropriately labeled mic-stands, Hippie Annie (Ashley Monroe), Holler Annie (Angaleena Presley), and Lonestar Annie (Miranda Lambert), the crowd erupted into applause and were on their feet, where they remained the entire night. Lambert, Monroe, and Presley, clearly feeling the energy, started the show off with their new song “Sugar Daddy,” followed by crowd favorite, “Feel a Sin Coming On” from their 2013 album Annie Up.

Lonestar Annie was first to address the audience and excitedly shared that their record, Interstate Gospel was finally available, just before singing “Bad Example”. Pumping up the crowd, she stated “Happy Friday to everybody. Happy album release day to us. We’re gonna do a bunch of songs about sin and men, and everything in between tonight. We’re gonna be setting a real bad example for you all.” Although a trio, the songstresses truly gave each other the spotlight when necessary, often mouthing the lyrics and dancing with each other, when one of the women had a solo in a song, such as when Monroe acted as lead soloist in “Dear Sobriety,” or when Presley took it home on “The Hunter’s Wife.”

Pistol Annies NYC

Although beautifully talented in their own right, the ladies truly shine, as harmonizing goddesses, often sounding like one effortless and incredible voice. Their beautiful harmonies were showcased during their performance of Elvis Presley’s “Love Me,” and hard-hitting title track off their new project, “Interstate Gospel.”

The night was filled with many great moments; however, one of the highlights of the night came towards the end of the trio’s 20 song set, when Lambert spoke to the audience yet again, “ We appreciate y’all understanding us telling the truth. We sit around with girlfriends that live really big lives. Should I tell the stats now?! Two husbands, two ex-husbands, two children, one on the way, and 25 years. That’s a lot of shit to write about, you know what I mean. That’s not even counting in-laws, outlaws, mamas, and stuff. We really appreciate Y’all listening to us, and living our stories with us because we’re just trying to tell everyone’s story whether they’re ugly or not.” Concert-goers showed their love and appreciation for the ladies, as the women bared their souls, singing another crowd favorite, “Girls Like Us.”

The performance was relatable, authentic, and enchanting all in one, just like the Annies. The supergroup saved some of their best songs for the end of their set, including their sassy new single, “Got My Name Changed Back” and an old favorite, “Hell On Heels”; both resonating with the intimate group of fans present. The night closed with Monroe’s wedding song, an acoustic rendition of “I Hope You’re the End of My Story.”

New Yorkers were lucky to witness the Pistol Annies’ magic, as they delivered an unforgettable night. Next up, the ladies head to The Novo in Los Angeles on November 7th to close out their trio of concerts to promote their new record. Keep up with the Annies via their social media for more information and updates.

NYCS Swag Spotlight Featuring Teddy Robb

Teddy Robb

One of the most talked about new singer-songwriters in Nashville is our Swag Spotlight this week, Teddy Robb.  Robb grew up in Akron, Ohio and didn’t really start listening to country music until high school.  Before that, he listened to classic rock like Bob Seger, The Eagles, ACDC and Pink Floyd.  He laughs as he explains that he only started listening to country music for a girl. “I thought, ‘No that is just for sad people and for people who’s dog died and their truck broke down’ but then I remember listening to “Summertime” by Kenny Chesney and I was like…oh actually this is really fun I can get into this,” he tells us.  From then on he loved Brooks and Dunn, Tim McGraw and of course, Kenny Chesney.  He didn’t play music growing up, instead, he played sports and even played football in college for a few years but after he stopped playing football he took that passion and newly founded free time and started learning how to play guitar.  After a teacher challenged him to play one night at an open mic night, he fell in love with performing and being up on stage.

“I started playing local clubs in Akron, Ohio and before long I decided I wanted to move to Nashville so one morning I just woke up and said this is the day, I am moving,” he explains his spontaneous decision. He played honky-tonks and cover songs for about a year before once again making a big move, this time to Colorado. He was captivated by the lifestyle, as an outdoorsman, being able to hike and fish in the summer and ski and snowboard in the winter, he loved living there.  All the while, he was playing country music at night, honing in on his craft and perfecting his sound.  He explains that although he was playing country music, every once in a while a request would come in for something a little different, whether it was John Prine, Bob Dylan or Pure Prairie League. This allowed him to open up his musical horizons and eventually create the sound that he now brings back to Nashville. His voice, his delivery, and his lyrics are the perfect blend of laid back folk and modern country.

His travels from Ohio to Nashville to Colorado and back to Nashville again have taught him lessons about himself as a musician and allowed him to learn about the type of music he wanted to create. “On a whim, a little bit of luck and a little bit of hard work, that is how I got here,” Robb tells us. He signed with Sony Monument Records and started getting into writing rooms around town.  “I connected with the SMACK writers, I knew it felt very natural and I knew I wanted to end up being there and then they offered me a publishing deal,” he recalls.  “Since then I have been there writing every day.”

He tells us when he was 20 years old he heard George Strait’s “Troubadour” for the first time, a memory that he will always remember as the moment he knew he wanted to pursue a career in music.  He had the pleasure of being in a writing room one day with one of the writers of that song, Leslie Satcher.  He took the opportunity to explain to her how that song had changed the course of his life. “I’m in a room with somebody writing a song with them and they wrote a song in the past that is a huge reason why I am here today playing music. It was an incredible experience for me,” he tells us. “Nashville is a really special town because of those types of moments.”

Robb released his debut single earlier this year, “Lead Me On” was written with SMACK writers, Matt McGinn, Ryan Beaver, and Aaron Eshuis and produced by Shane McAnally. It is an upbeat honest track, a fun song that has a unique twist, where the singer doesn’t mind the cat and mouse game.  His raspy voice and sultry delivery will have any listener throwing out the relationships rulebook. He explains that he truly loves the song and decided it should be the first single because of its versatility. “It’s the first one I wrote with SMACK writers and I think it leaves us room to go left or right, once we pick another song, that one doesn’t put us in a box of this is what we are, it has a nice availability to go a little more pop country or traditional.”  He performed “Lead Me On” along with other songs recently at an exclusive event in Nashville hosted by SMACKSongs.  Read our recap of the special night here.  He also hosted his own writer’s round featuring Blake Chaffin and JT Harding where he impressed even more fans in Nashville.

Looking ahead, he is playing another writers round tonight (Mon, 11/5), be sure to head to our Instagram for video clips from the show.  He is looking forward to getting out on the road and expanding his reach, playing his new music and eventually putting out an EP of that new music. Grab “Lead Me On” here and follow Teddy Robb on Instagram for the latest updates.

NYCS First Impression: Lauren Davidson ‘Ballads’

Lauren Davidson Ballads

CMA artist Lauren Davidson is a New York City/New Jersey-based singer-songwriter that is getting the attention of everyone around her. She tells us in a recent interview is inspired daily by artists from all genres of music including Contemporary Country, Rock, and Pop. Because of this her music has a little something for everyone in it. Last Friday Davidson released her second EP Ballads, the first time she has released new music since 2016.

Fans got a glimpse into the new EP back in June when she released “Pouring Rain”, which quickly became her most-streamed song on Spotify to-date, already raking up more than 17,000 streams. In the song, Davidson tells how she has learned life is not a bed of roses and not always fair. She has been “walking in the pouring rain trying to wash away this aching pain”. The strong chorus kicks in and is bound to be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. It is catchy, has a great rhythm, and meaningful lyrics.  She also joined the New York Country Swag team for a Live Swag Session to sing the new song for our followers.  Watch the full Swag Session below.

The opening track “Just A Memory” starts with Davidson’s powerful vocals as she starts to describe the feeling of being held by a loved one that is now just a memory. Experiencing a first love at 17, she prays that these little memories will always stay with her. While the song is a more upbeat ballad than normal, the meaning and lyrics are hopeful and powerful. It’s a perfect track to introduce the EP. “Hole in My Heart” shows another contrasting side to Davidson. This break-up ballad showcases her soft side while bringing deep lyrics that hit hard.

To top off the EP, Lauren Davidson delivers an upbeat, unrequited love song, “To The Moon And Back”. From the very beginning the guitar riffs that open the song immediately pull you in. The song highlights the ability to love someone completely if they would only let you. It’s a simple concept that her fans can relate to, inspiring repeat spins.

This EP shows off Davidson’s ability to create a well-rounded EP all the while keeping in the theme of ‘ballads’. “Ballads” puts her unique and powerful voice on display, take a listen to the songs below and follow Lauren Davidson on Instagram to stay caught up and be on the lookout for a new single soon.

Multi-platinum selling artist, Brett Young and longtime love, Taylor Mills are officially married! The two tied the knot in a beautiful Palm Springs, California wedding in front of 200 of their closest friends and family, according to People.
