New York’s Country 94.7’s Up Close & Country With Kane Brown

Yesterday, Kane Brown participated in Up Close & Country with New York’s Country 94.7 at their new studios and sang all four of his number one hits. He also talked with DJ and on-air personality Katie Neal about his wife Katelyn and their unborn baby girl. After Neal congratulated the singer-songwriter on his big news, she asked who picked the name Kingsley and Brown explained that if it was a boy, they had decided on Kingston, so they wanted to keep a similar theme and landed on Kinglsey.

They also discussed his latest collaboration with EDM DJ Marshemello, “One Right Thing” which Brown had written but didn’t make his latest album, Experiment. After reading through the lyrics, Marshmello came up with the instrumentals and after taking out the banjos out, it was perfect. Neal then suggested his next collaboration should be with pop/R&B artist Lizzo.

“I think the first time you’ve played Up Close & Country for us was a little over two years ago and I was thinking about it, at the end of the interview I asked ‘What’s your goal for 2017 and what are you excited about?’ and before I could even finish you were like ‘I just want a number one at country radio, and now you have four,” Neal stated. “Which has been so cool to just watch you rise up and succeed so, thank you for coming back and doing this again, we are so happy to have you.”

After the short interview, Brown performed his biggest hits starting off with “What Ifs” and going right into his current single at country radio, “Homesick”. Before singing “Homesick” he explained the song was inspired by him being away from home and missing his wife, his dogs, and his family and friends. “After I wrote it I was trying to think of other people who could relate to the song, the first people that popped in my head was the military if y’all know anybody that are serving for us, if y’all are serving for us, I love you all, and thank you all for everything that you do.” The singer-songwriter engaged with the studio audience of winners asking them how they were feeling and talked about his beer of choice, Bud Light, which he was drinking during his performance.

He continued with his other number one hits including “Good As You”, “Lose It” and closed with a perfect rendition of “Heaven” where Brown encouraged the studio audience to sing along during the chorus. For fans who missed out, you can head Northwell Health at Jones Beach next Friday night (September 6th) to catch Kane Brown in his role as direct support for Jason Aldean on the Ride All Night Tour. Olivia Lane Performs “Perfect Skin” on NBC’s Songland

Olivia Lane Songland

Singer-songwriter and Houston native, Olivia Lane pitched her song “Perfect Skin” to featured artist, Leona Lewis last night on NBC’s Songland. Her song, however, was not chosen to record. Lewis instead selected “Solo Quiero (Somebody To Love)”, written by Rozee.

“Perfect Skin” made significant changes from when she first presented it to Leona and the producers. It started as a slow, piano ballad but after working in the studio with Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer, Ester Dean, the song transformed into an up-tempo, EDM song. You can watch her Songland performance here!

“When your scars are who you are / and your flaws are where you’ve been / You’re beautiful / You don’t have to have perfect skin”

“I got to Nashville in 2013 and played every possible gig that I could,” Lane recalled. “I wasn’t taking care of myself, I wasn’t feeling beautiful, I wasn’t feeling strong and was just kind of defeated, so I wrote this song,” Lane explained.  “A lot of people struggle with self-image, so to have great, positive message to little girls, big girls; this song is perfect for Leona and just perfect for the world right now,” Dean praised.

We got to know Lane better when she was featured in one of our Swag Sessions in October of last year. You can tell by the way she presented herself on Songland that she is very passionate about music and songwriting. When Lewis chose her song to move onto the next portion of the show, Lane displayed the most ecstatic look on her face, skipped/danced off stage and screamed in excitement when the door closed behind her.

Songland gives four songwriters the opportunity to enjoy the spotlight for a change, allowing them to pitch their song to already established artists, like Leona Lewis. It demonstrates the long, complicated process that is involved with songwriting.

Although you will not hear Lewis’ rendition of “Perfect Skin”, you can listen to Lane’s original version anywhere you buy or stream music as well as other tracks by Lane, including her most recent EP, The One.

To keep up with Olivia Lane follow her on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Midland Celebrate CMA Nominations and Perform on TODAY

In the middle of Rockefeller Center on an early Wednesday morning, Carson Daly and the Today Show hosted one of the most prominent upcoming artists in the industry. Midland joined Daly on stage before they performed where he shared some exciting news. “They just released their new album Let It Roll on the 23rd…and man guys things have just been happening for you. Congratulations on all the success. And another little breaking news story this morning, the CMA nominations just came out this morning and you have been nominated for CMA New Artist of the Year” Daly said as the Texas-natives stood there in awe. Along with being in the New Artist category, they are also nominated for Vocal Group of the Year. Check out all of the other nominees here.

Channeling their excitement right into their performance, live on the CITI Stage, they performed “Mr. Lonely,” the first single off their new album. Accompanied by a drummer and back-up guitar, the boys played their hearts out of this song that left fans, and hosts, dancing along on all sides of the stage. Between wearing their featured cowboy hats, real cowboy boots, and signature mustaches, and a classic country tune, the trio added a little country flair to New York this morning. Just like past songs, “Mr. Lonely” channels the roots of country music they grew up with. Paying homage to their honky-tonk heroes, Midland delivers an upbeat, toe-tapping, good timing song that will be played in honky-tonks all over the country for years to come.

All of the morning show hosts joined the boys on stage after the set to congratulate the band on all their recent success and nominations. You can catch the honkey-tonk heroes themselves and all the action when Midland comes back to New York on September 17th at Terminal 5.
You can follow along with Midland on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

5 Reasons You Shouldn’t Miss Riley Green On Tour With Brad Paisley

One of our favorite rising artists and 2019 Artists to Watch, Riley Green is currently on tour with Chris Lane and Brad Paisley. The summer tour will be wrapping up at the end of the month with two tri-state area shows, August 30th at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theatre and August 31st at PNC Bank Arts Center.

From scoring his very first number one hit earlier this year with “There Was This Girl” to making waves with his newest release “I Wish Grandpas Never Died,” Green is paving his own path towards superstardom. With his debut album Different ‘Round Here slated for release next month, September 20th and a headlining tour of his own beginning this fall, here are five reasons why you should be sure to head into the venue early to catch his opening set.

1. He Has A Song For Every Emotion

Whether you’re in the mood to jam out or in the mood to cry, Green has you covered with everything in between. Songs like “There Was This Girl” and “In Love By Now” will have you up and dancing, while “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” might get you emotional. “Bettin’ Man” and “Same Old Song” will definitely have you swaying back and forth, focusing on Green’s guitar skills and incredible vocals.

2. For The Ladies… He’s Handsome

Not only is Green extremely talented, but he was also blessed with good looks too. For us ladies who love a man with a beard, he is the guy for you.

3. He Flawlessly Blends Traditional and Modern Country Music

Green was raised in Jacksonville, Alabama on old traditional country, bluegrass and southern gospel music. Growing up, he spent his childhood songwriting and performing for his grandfather, who ran Golden Saw Music Hall. Green shared the stage with his grandfather, Bufford Green and other influential men of his time. As he grew older, he put his own mixture of modern rebellion into his original music.

4. You Will See Him Live Before He Releases His Debut Album

The Jacksonville, Alabama native will be releasing his debut album Different ‘Round Here on September 20th. Green co-wrote each of the fourteen tracks with some of Nashville’s greatest songwriters including Jessi Alexander, Erik Dylan, Justin Weaver and more. He also recorded the project alongside CMA and ACM award-winning producer Dann Huff and executive producer Jimmy Harnen. You will get to hear and know most of the songs on the LP before it’s release.

5. You Can Say You Knew Him When

For followers of NYCountry Swag, you knew about the singer-songwriter back when we hosted a Swag Session with him last Fall. We sat down with Green at The Boogie Room in October 2018 while he performed two songs for us and spoke about his experience as a country music artist up until that point. Watch the Swag Session above.

To keep up with Riley Green follow him on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook and check out his full catalog below.

New York City Music Venues

There’s nothing like going to a concert in New York City! We’ve got you covered on all the spots in the Big Apple to catch your favorite artists and live music from all different genres.

Live Music in New York City

Justin Aharoni (@jaharoni) for NYCountry Swag

1. Madison Square Garden
This coveted venue is the holy grail of places to catch a live show. With over 20,000 seats, MSG is the place to go to catch all the A-list artists on their headlining tours. On September 20th, Thomas Rhett is bringing his ‘Very Hot Summer Tour,’ to the Garden, accompanied by Russell Dickerson, Dustin Lynch, and Rhett Atkins. Grab your tickets to the show here.

2. Webster Hall
After a two year hiatus, Webster Hall finally reopened its doors. Renovated and better than ever, Webster Hall hasn’t skipped a beat and is regaining its title as one of the fan’s favorite music venues in NYC. The three-floor venue boasts a grand ballroom that houses 1,500 people, a middle-range room for 600, and an intimate studio floor for 400 concert goers. We can’t wait to Mitchell Tenpenny’s headlining tour with Seaforth at Webster Hall this December!

3. Gramercy Theatre
Owned by Live Nation, the Gramercy Theatre is an approximately 500 capacity concert hall in Manhattan. The venue promotes shows across many genres, including country music. In the next few months, Mason Ramsey, Jimmie Allen with Michael Ray, and HARDY will all play shows there.

4. Mercury Lounge
Mercury Lounge has housed some great country artists, such as Tucker Beathard and Walker Hayes. The 250 capacity room is a place where up and coming artists play show after show. It’s the perfect intimate venue to catch your favorite new artist, while still feeling the same energy you get in the pit at bigger shows.

5. Rockwood Music Hall
We love going to the Rockwood to check out the rising talent in country music! We’ve caught sets from Houston Bernard Band, Jill and Kate, and Kelleigh Bannen. If you want an intimate experience with one of your favorite artists or a chance to fall in love with new talent, head downtown to the charming spot.

6. Bowery Ballroom
Located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the Bowery is in a prime location with tons of bars and restaurants to enjoy both before and after a country music show! This venue has a knack for premiering artists just as they are on the cusp of accomplishing something great. We caught Devin Dawson and Ryan Hurd there earlier this year.

7. Hammerstein Ballroom
The Hammerstein Ballroom is one of the few on this list that boasts both general admission and balcony seating. The capacity of the room depends on the configuration of the show, but it can house up to 3,500 concertgoers! Most recently, both Luke Combs and Dan + Shay sold out the ballroom! This fall, Jon Pardi and Tyler Rich will perform there.

8. Radio City Music Hall
Radio City Music Hall is another iconic venue in NYC. This fall, we’ve got some talented female artists headed to perform at the regal theatre. Both Maren Morris and Kacey Musgraves are slated to play shows there, with Morris coming to Radio City in September and Musgraves playing two nights in October.

9. Irving Plaza
In the last year, Irving Plaza has housed some great shows by some talented artists in the industry, such as Morgan Wallen, The Cadillac Three, and Cody Johnson. The venue is currently undergoing renovations, and we can’t wait to see how the place gets even better in 2020!

10. Beacon Theatre
If you prefer an intimate, but seated venue than Beacon Theatre is the place to choose! Located uptown, the Beacon Theatre provides all the glitz and glam of a NYC Broadway show, while being a staple place for musical performers, such as Jessie James Decker.

11. SubCulture
SubCulture is a chic new venue in Manhattan, where many different country events are hosted. We attended Thomas Rhett’s Pandora Album Release party there, as well as, saw prolific singer-songwriter Lori McKenna on tour with one of our favorites, Hailey Whitters. The ambiance of the space rivals any intimate settings in the city.

12. PlayStation Theatre
Rounding out our list is the PlayStation Theatre. The venue houses over 2,000 fans and has hosted some fantastic country artists in its many years of business. Chase Rice plays the theatre in October, which is sure to be a great show. Make sure to check out one of your favorite artists there soon, as the venue is closing its doors on December 31st of this year! Thanks for the memories PlayStation!
