Jason Aldean Looks Back In New “Rearview Town” Music Video

Jason Aldean Rearview Town

On the heels of receiving the prestigious ACM award for “Dick Clark Artist of the Decade” at the Academy of Country Music Awards earlier this month, Jason Aldean released a music video for his song “Rearview Town,’ the title track off his most recent record-breaking album. This award marks the recording artist’s eleventh ACM win.

In celebration of this momentous feat, the entertainer turned his music video for “Rearview Town” into a nostalgic and epic flashback of his life and career thus far. The video begins with images of Aldean as a child, eventually, the old photos fade into a current shot of Aldean, singing the lyrics to the song. Images from his past continue to float alongside him, including photos of the singer at early gigs at no-name bars. The look back includes flashbacks from sold-out shows, ACM wins, and award show performances. Although the visuals mostly include happy memories, Aldean makes sure to pay tribute to the horrific shooting in Las Vegas at the Route 91 Festival, where he headlined the night of the tragedy. Flowers, photos and American flags from the tribute site are all featured as well.

Check out the video, produced by Shaun Silva below.

In a recent press release, Aldean explained the message he wants to convey to fans with his new video sharing, “The music video for ‘Rearview Town’ was a way to sort of sum up my career and personal life over the years. It’s a nod to looking back at what got you where you are today – good and bad – while looking forward down the road ahead.”

After headlining Tortuga Music Festival this past weekend and Stagecoach next week, Aldean kicks off his ‘2019 Ride All Night Tour’ at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. The tour hits the New York/New Jersey area twice, first at PNC Bank Arts Center on May 18th and again, September 6th at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theatre. Tickets are available now. Aldean is bringing along talented singer-songwriters, Kane Brown and Carly Pearce as openers.

To Keep up with Aldean, follow him on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

The Country Songs That Are the Soundtracks Of Our Lives

As music lovers, the NYCountry Swag team and our writers have decided on songs that sum up their lives. We each picked a song that could be the soundtrack to our lives and explained why.

Soundtracks Of Our Lives

Stephanie Wagner, Founder

Pick: “Family Tree” – Caylee Hammack
Songwriters: Caylee Hammack, Gordie Sampson, Troy Verges

Caylee Hammack’s debut single, “Family Tree” is a song destined to be on everyone’s life soundtrack. The song gets real deep and personal, exposing all of the quirks of the people closest to Hammack, her family.

The chorus of the undeniably catchy tune is what makes the song most relatable “Real life can get real funny / We got more love than we got money / Some swing a little higher / Some’ll just hang low / A few of us are on fire to get out / And some just wanna stay home / but it don’t matter ‘cause our roots run deep / Ain’t nothing gonna shake our family tree”

Every family has their differences, but at the end of the day, no matter what, family is family. Through every chapter, through every phase of life, there’s one thing that doesn’t change and that’s your family tree. In the words of Caylee Hammack, “Through thick and thin, hell we’re still kin at the end of the day.”

Christina Bosch, Managing Editor

Pick: “Stand” – Rascal Flatts
Songwriters: Danny Orton, Blair Daly

This song on Rascal Flatt’s 2006 album Me and My Gang has come through for me in some of the most difficult times of my life. It is an anthem for perseverance, finding the strength and power to move past life’s hardships and stand.

“‘Cause when push comes to shove / You taste what you’re made of / You might bend till you break / ‘Cause it’s all you can take / On your knees you look up / Decide you’ve had enough / You get mad, you get strong / Wipe your hands, shake it off / Then you stand”

The image of being on your knees, praying for the courage to face whatever life throws at you and then gaining that courage, resiliency and then standing up and making it through has always stuck with me. After losing a close family member when she was very young, I heard this song a few months later at CMAFest, my very first trip to Nashville, and it was given a whole new meaning. I even went the next day and got “Then you stand” tattooed on my hip. It is a song that will always give me peace and a reminder of how strong you can be.

Dylan Bestler, Contributing Writer

Pick: “Homegrown” – Zac Brown Band
Songwriters: Niko Moon, Wyatt Durrette, Zac Brown

A simple song about how Brown loves the town where he grew up. I always loved this song because of how my town sounds like his. I have lived in the small town of Williston Park, NY my whole life and I would not have wanted it any other way.

When I was growing up, summer was centered around our little league. Me and the friends I have had since kindergarten would spend our days at the pool and our nights at the field; the two were only separated by a fence. After the games, we’d roam around our town’s mile radius with nothing to do but time to kill.

Our travel baseball team, the Williston Park Patriots stayed together for eight years. After a one year hiatus, we got almost the whole team back together to play slow pitch softball under the same team name. We even got our old coach to play with us. I love everything about Williston Park and am so proud of my roots.

Jeremy Chua, Contributing Writer

Pick: “Riser” – Dierks Bentley
Songwriters: Steve Moakler, Travis Meadows

This song was the first song I thought of when I heard the phrase “soundtrack of your life.” “Riser” is, as I call, my life anthem. Even before its release, when I watched clips of Dierks Bentley performing it live on YouTube, I resonated to it. This was the one song some of my closest friends loved, including a dear big brother from Church. We used it to close one of our youth sessions and, when he passed suddenly, this same song helped me cope with the loss. The lyric “when I don’t know what I’m doing and can fake it, I’ll pray to Jesus who rolls away the stone” always hits home with me. As cheesy as it sounds, “Riser” really pushes me in the best way possible, to rise above every adversity with country music and the Good Lord by my side.

Julia Grubbs, Contributing Writer

Pick: “I Hope You Dance” – Lee Ann Womack
Songwriters: Luke Bryan, Luke Laird, Rodney Clawson

This song encourages exploration, growth, and fighting to reach your dreams. Even while working hard, you can’t forget to live in the moment and just dance. As a dancer, hearing this song helps me remember why I do what I do, and continue to keep pursuing my dream and enjoy the journey.

“I hope you never lose your sense of wonder / You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger / May you never take one single breath for granted / God forbid love ever leave you empty handed / I hope you dance”

Abby Kaye-Phillips, Contributing Writer

Pick: “Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain)” – Gary Allan
Songwriters: Gary Allan, Hillary Lindsey, Matthew Alan Warren

I feel things very intensely, which is great when things in my life are great, but not so good when things are hard. When everything feels like it’s going wrong in my life it’s easy to think it will stay that way, but this song a great reminder that no matter what, there is always a point where things get better.

Rebekah Milsted, Contributing Writer

Pick: “Fast” – Luke Bryan
Songwriters: Larry Bastian, Patrick Alger, Garth Brooks

“Sixty seconds now feels more like thirty / Tick-tock, won’t stop, around it goes / Tick-tock, won’t stop, around it goes / Sand through the glass sure falls in a hurry / And all you keep trying to do is slow it down, soak it in / Keep trying to make the good times last as long as you can / But you can’t, man/It just goes too fast”

“Fast” by Luke Bryan is my pick because life truly does go by fast, one minute you were in college living with your best friends and now you’re coming up on your second year of marriage. The song teaches you to live in the moment and enjoy what’s in front of you.

Tricia Murdy, Contributing Writer

Pick: “Unanswered Prayers” – Garth Brooks
Songwriters: Larry Bastian, Patrick Alger, Garth Brooks

If I had to choose a country song that sums up my life, something that really defines me… it would be “Unanswered Prayers” by Garth Brooks. This is a timeless classic but still resonates with me every day. There are so many moments where I wanted things to go a certain way and prayed for the outcome that I desired. Things didn’t go the way I wanted and at the time I was disappointed or sad and questioned everything. I can’t even count how many times I’ve referenced this song to someone when things weren’t going how they wanted or even in my own life where I’ve needed to give myself a pep talk. It’s not always easy in those moments to understand why things don’t go the way you planned or the way you want. It sometimes takes months, sometimes years to really become clear to me why things didn’t turn out the way I’d wanted in that moment. Things worked out the way they were supposed to – the way God intended them to, not necessarily how I thought they should have.

“Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers / Remember when you’re talkin’ to the man upstairs /  And just because he doesn’t answer doesn’t mean he don’t care/Some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers”

Always in hindsight, it has been abundantly clear why it didn’t pan out how I wanted it to and in those moments, I am beyond thankful for those unanswered prayers. Maybe when you have those moments and you want something so desperately, just think about those lyrics and have faith your situation will work out just as it’s meant to.

Nicole Piering, Contributing Writer

Pick: “Life Ain’t Always Beautiful” – Gary Allan
Songwriters: Tommy Lee James and Cynthia Evelyn Thomson

When I began listening to country music, the first concert I ever attended was Rascal Flatts at Madison Square Garden, with Eric Church and Gary Allan as openers. It was during that show that I first heard Allan’s “Life Ain’t Always Beautiful,” written by Tommy Lee James and Cynthia Evelyn Thomson.

While the song may seem sad initially, the more you listen to it, there’s a bittersweet quality that has stuck with me ever since I first heard it. Through good times and bad, it’s a song and a set of lyrics that I’ve always gone back to, making it the perfect song for the soundtrack of one’s life. Here, Allan reminds listeners that “The struggles make you stronger/ And the changes make you wise/ And happiness has its own way of takin’ its sweet time.” His voice is full of gravelly emotion on the tender ballad, as he sings one of my all-time favorite lines from any song, “Life ain’t always beautiful, but it’s a beautiful ride.”

Olivia Reese, Contributing Writer

Pick: “American Honey” – Lady Antebellum
Songwriters: Cary Barlowe, Hillary Lindsey, Shane Stevens

“American Honey” by Lady Antebellum is one of my all time favorite songs. It was always very relatable to me, as I grew up at a house on the edge of town in a more rural area surrounded by corn fields.  Across the street from my very long driveway was a church, with real bells, that would ring every morning and the line

“She grew up on a side of the road/Where the church bells ring and strong love grows/She grew up good/She grew up slow/Like American honey” stood out to me from the first time I heard the song. Now that I’m older I frequently think about living there and sometimes wish I could go back, “There’s a wild, wild whisper
Blowin’ in the wind/Callin’ out my name like a long lost friend/Oh I miss those days as the years go by/Oh nothing’s sweeter than summertime/And American hone,” which has given the song a new meaning, to me.

Mikayla Sauber, Contributing Writer

Pick: “Don’t Blink” – Kenny Chesney
Songwriters: Casey Beathard, Chris Wallin

“Don’t Blink” by Kenny Chesney is a song I relate to because I am starting to realize just how fast life goes by. It seems like yesterday I was a little kid helping out on my family farm and now I’m finishing my last couple weeks of sophomore year of college.

Every part of the song speaks to me but the part which sticks out the most is “Best start putting first things first / Cause when your hourglass runs out of sand / you can’t flip it over and start again / take every breath God gives you for what it’s worth / Don’t blink.”

I try my best each day to live by these lyrics as life continues to fly by faster than we even know. You need to live in the moment, follow what is most important to you, and don’t wish, or blink, your life away because one day you’ll be wondering where your time went and realizing you blinked it away too fast. You think you have all the time in the world to do your desires and dreams, but you never really know how long you have, and you have to take each moment for what it’s worth.

Julia Singer, Contributing Writer

Pick: “Dime Store Cowgirl” – Kacey Musgraves
Songwriters: Kacey Musgraves, Luke Laird, Shane McAnally

I may not be from Golden, Texas, but I would consider Kacey Musgraves’, “Dime Store Cowgirl” to be the soundtrack to my life. This is one of the songs that made me fall in love with country music and reminds me to stay grounded and true to myself, regardless of where life takes me. No matter what I’m going through in life, putting this song on instantly cheers me up. This song helps me be able to appreciate all of the adventures I’ve been on in life, while also remembering my hometown– and the people and places that made me who I am. “It don’t matter where I’m goin’ / I’ll still call my hometown home.”  “Dime Store Cowgirl” is one of those songs that I can always count on to brighten my day and remind me to think of the important things in life.

Shanna Vitaliano, Contributing Writer

Pick: “Livin’ Part of Life” – Eric Church
Songwriters: Eric Church, Liz Rose, Walt Wilkins

The song that I chose for the soundtrack of my life is “Livin’ Part of Life” by Eric Church.  This song has been a staple on my playlist for as long as I can remember.  It reminds me not to take life too seriously, and to take some time to relax and enjoy the simple things in life: such as lounging on a front porch enjoying the breeze or going fishing.  It is easy to get caught up in our day to day life, so I feel this song is the perfect reminder to stop worrying about the long “to-do” lists and to leave your troubles behind.  As Church says in the song its time to “kick back and get high, on the livin’ part of life“.

Erica Zisman, Contributing Writer

Pick: “This One’s For The Girls”
Songwriters: Aimee Mayo, Chris Lindsey, Hillary Lindsey

My favorite songs are the ones that give me the words to what I’m going through or what I’ve been through – those songs that you have a personal connection with. Martina McBride is one of those artists that sings those types of songs. “This One’s For The Girls” is one of the songs that I have had on replay for several years and almost always fits the stage of life I am in. It is definitely a song I would label as the “Soundtrack to My Life.”

“This one’s for the girls / Who love without holdin’ back / Who dream with everything they have / All around the world / This one’s for the girls.”

Those lyrics are some of the most touching lyrics because it reminds us all that it is okay to be a dreamer and to give life everything you have, even when facing adversity.

Carrie Underwood Inducts Kelsea Ballerini into Grand Ole Opry

Just four years after her Grand Ole Opry debut on February 14, 2015, Kelsea Ballerini has joined the royal family of country music. Originally from Knoxville, TN, Ballerini wrote her first song at only 12 years old and moved to Nashville to pursue writing and performing three years later.

Of all the incredible women in country that have shaped who she is as an artist, Ballerini credits Carrie Underwood as one her biggest influences and inspirations. It was therefore fitting that the American Idol alumn surprised fans Tuesday night (April 16.) to make Ballerini’s induction official. “This is the heart and soul of country music, the family,” said an emotional Underwood, “Welcome to the family.”

Ballerini echoed the sentiment in a tear-filled speech thanking the Opry, her family, and her friends for giving her a home. “It’s so nice and comforting to know that no matter where life takes me…and whatever happens, that I can always come here and I can always play country music.” The two female powerhouses then joined forces for a special duet, a cover of Opry legend Trisha Yearwood’s, “Walkaway Joe”.

Of the 26 artists and groups inducted into the Grand Ole Opry since 2000, Ballerini is only the fifth woman. At a time when female and male artists alike are taking notice and speaking out about the lack of equal representation of women in country music, choosing to have Underwood induct the newest member undoubtedly held special significance, not just for Ballerini, but for the country community.

One of the beautiful traditions of the Opry is that invitations are offered by existing members live from the wooden circle. Earlier this year, Little Big Town joined Ballerini for a duet, but instead of finishing the phrase of the song, they harmonized an invitation to the shocked songstress. “I thought getting to sing ‘Girl Crush’ was the biggest present in the world,” Ballerini said. Turns out she was wrong!

With the first handful of shows on the Miss Me More Tour behind her (her first as a headliner) Ballerini has already had quite the week. She is also set to open for Luke Bryan later this year on one stop of his Sunset Repeat Tour. Congrats, Kelsea, you earned it!

Ingrid Andress Makes Her National TV Debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers

Ingrid Andress Seth Meyers

Screenshot from Late Night with Seth Meyers YouTube

Ingrid Andress is a unique new talent in the music industry, who was recently signed by Warner Music Nashville. We got a sneak peek at her impressive vocals, as well as her heartfelt songwriting and story-telling ability, back in February, during an exclusive showcase to introduce her artistry. So far, the songstress has released two songs, “Lady Like” and “More Hearts Than Mine,” with the former already achieving over two million streams. As she continues to garner more fans and notoriety, Andress can check off another accomplishment: making her national TV debut on NBC’s ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ just last night (4/15).

With a record of her newest single in hand, host, Seth Meyers introduced the singer-songwriter to stage stating, “With her television debut, performing “Lady Like,” please welcome to the show, Ingrid Andress everyone.”

Andress began her performance, sitting at her piano. The ethereal setting, complete with mood lighting and greenery, matched her effortless and beautiful vocals perfectly. The recording artist glowed throughout her entire performance while rocking an all-white power-suit, as the perfect juxtaposition to the eloquence of her song “Lady Like.” Andress nailed her performance, even getting up from the piano to belt out some of her lyrics and show off her stage presence. When her performance came to a close, the singer-songwriter had the biggest smile on her face, showcasing a monumental moment in her career.

In a climate that is full of talented female country artists that are underrepresented, we look forward to seeing how Andress and many other female singers make waves and change the music industry for the better. We look forward to continuing to champion Andress, as she hits more milestones in her new career.

To keep up with Andress, follow her on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Blake Shelton Releases Powerful Visuals for “God’s Country”

God's Country Blake Shelton

Photo Courtesy of Warner Music Nashville

We didn’t have to wait long for Blake Shelton’s music video for his new single “God’s Country.” Less than a week after performing the hit live for the first time and receiving a standing ovation at the ACM Awards, the official video was released, and boy is it a good one.
The powerful video, directed by Grammy Award-winning director Sophie Miller, certainly shows Shelton’s dedication and love he has for his home state of Oklahoma.

“Well I can tell you one thing for damn sure, Oklahoma is God’s Country, so that’s where we shot the music video for the song,” said Shelton in a recent press release. “We spent four days shooting there in and around Tishomingo, getting connected to the land, the environment and the spirit of the music. As I’ve said before, I was born in Oklahoma, and I’ll be buried there and Sophie Muller, who’s a well-known video director, really captured the countryside in a stark and vivid way.” Tishomingo is where Shelton resides today.

Going back and forth between black and white footage of the Dust-Bowl and Shelton facing heavy weather elements in the present day, the video highlights the challenges that all farmers face. However, it also shows how breathtaking nature and the countryside can be, giving the message that no matter what comes our way, we should be proud of where we come from and to be able to stand in “God’s Country”.

Written by Michael Hardy, Devin Dawson, and Jordan Schmidt, it is already a hit for Shelton, making it into the top 25 on the Billboard Country Chart and jumping up 41 spots to number five on Billboard’s Hot Country.

While we wait for the singer-songwriter’s 12th studio album you can catch him on NBC’s The Voice on April 26.

To keep up with Shelton, follow him on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

“God’s Country” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music here on our ‘New Country Music’ playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.

HARDY Proves He’s More “Rednecker” Than You

HARDY

You may not have heard of HARDY, country music newest redneck, but you’ve definitely heard songs he’s written, including “Up Down,” “Simple,” and “God’s Country”. He is hitting the radio waves hard so listen out for his newest single “Rednecker,” and you may just find your new personal anthem. The Big Loud Records/Tree Vibez Music singer-songwriter proves he is “Rednecker” than you with the release of his newest music video. If you’re from the country, you have been in at least a few arguments with your neighbors and friends as to who is more country. Whether it’s about how big your bass is or how loud your truck is, it always a competition and HARDY’s video shows just that.

Directed by Justin Clough and shot on a farm in Cottonwood, TN, the Mississippi native took it back to his roots for the clip, showcasing what it means to hold the title “king of the rednecks.” Flinging dirt, sitting in lawn chairs drinking, mudding, mattress surfing behind his jacked up 4×4, and more, HARDY and his gang of friends proved once and for all that redneck isn’t just a word – it’s a lifestyle.

HARDY just got off the road with Morgan Wallen’s “If You Know Me” tour which we caught earlier this year and is getting right back on the road this summer. Opening for Florida Georgia Line nationwide on the Can’t Say I Ain’t Country Tour all summer long. FLG and the boys are hitting the New York area for a few shows and fans can get those tickets here. Between Florida Georgia Line, Dan+Shay, Morgan Wallen, Canaan Smith, and HARDY, this is one summer concert you do not want to miss.

To keep up with HARDY follow him on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Woman of the Month Ashley Eicher

We’re bringing you stories from women who are chasing their dreams and building a life that they love with New York Country Swag’s, “Woman of the Month.”

Each month, we highlight a different female pursuing her passions. Introducing you to women who are taking risks, working relentlessly and turning their dreams into reality. These are empowering women who serve as role models and should be celebrated.

Ashley Eicher

Our Woman of the Month for April is Ashley Eicher creates, hosts and produces content for several major outlets, always remembering you can be a kind and a strong woman in this industry. Growing up in Louisville, KY, Eicher always loved music and recalls hearing a variety of types of music around her house including Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Trisha Yearwood, Lionel Richie, and Wynonna Judd. She was on stage performing from a very young age, feeling natural, not nervous when the lights came up. She moved to Tennessee to pursue a career as an artist but decided to attend MTSU and study music business first.

Although throughout her college career she interned for ASCAP, MCA Records and Scott Hendricks her very first job out of college was working in artist management for Wynonna Judd.“I learned so much working for Wynonna and Kerry Hansen Zaidy (Wynonna’s then manager). Because we were a small management company dedicated solely to Wynonna, I was able to have my hands in a multitude of things from marketing to touring, A&R and the process of recording an album, to television appearances as Wynonna was on the Oprah show regularly at that time. I am so grateful for that time in my life,” Eicher tells us.

She went on to compete in several pageants across the state, eventually becoming Miss Tennesee and competing in Miss America.  Her time as Miss Tennessee allowed her to become the spokesperson for Governor Bredesen and the Department of Education for Tennessee and to help champion their character education initiatives. “I was speaking in different schools across the state about respecting yourself and respecting others,” she recalls.“The experience allowed me to make a difference in a way that I hadn’t been able to before. Eventually, it opened the door to television.”

She worked as an agent trainee at Creative Artists Agency and for her first on-air job, ABC hired her to host a digital series and a three-hour live special from the red carpet of the CMA Awards and back in 2007, Luke Bryan just happened to be her co-host. She then helped to launch AXS TV as the host and producer of all of their Nashville based content, and also hosted the Ram Report for Rolling Stone Country.

More recently, Eicher produces all of the video content for Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival which takes place right outside of Nashville in Franklin, Tennessee, hosts “Tailgate Hour”, an hour-long live show from each of Garth Brooks stadium tour dates which is broadcast on his channel on Sirius XM and started a podcast with Hunter Kelly Kelly. Her podcast, All Our Favorite People launched about a year ago and highlights long-form stories of people who are doing incredible things. They kicked off their first episode telling Jackie Lee’s story of battling cancer and grieving the death of his mother. “The fact that Jackie trusted us with some of the most deeply personal, beautiful and painful moments of his life and to be able to share his story in hopes of helping someone else, it was an honor to be a part of and one the greatest gifts for both of us,” she says. Other guests have included country music artists like Kassi Ashton, Lauren Alaina, and Jake Owen as well as Annie Downs, the best selling author, celebrity fitness trainer Erin Oprea and the CEO of St. Jude’s Children Hospital among many other inspiring guests.

Ashley Eicher

“We launched the podcast because (in 15 years of friendship) we have always wanted to do something together. The podcast allows us to have in-depth conversations with our guests about the beauty, pain, and hilarity that is life and connect with our audience in a meaningful way. Life is messy. It is beautiful but it is messy. And in the Instagram perfectly filtered world we live in, it can be really easy to fall into the lies of comparison and not enough. I think it is something we all struggle with to some degree,” Eicher says of the podcast. “So we talk about those things. We talk about the things we love, the stories, experiences, and people that have shaped us. And we laugh A LOT. Let’s be honest Hunter is hilarious and you never know what he is going to say. I love being able to go from belly laughing to talking about the really deep, life stuff. And hopefully, it’ll help somebody. We hope that when people listen to the podcast if they feel alone, I hope they realize that they aren’t alone.” For more information and to listen to all of the podcasts head to https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/all-our-favorite-people.

She goes on to speak passionately about The Dollar Club which is run by her church Cross Point, which brings the community together to prove that if every one donates just one dollar, the impact we can make when we all do good together can have a major change in the world. “They pool all of that money together, find a need in the community that needs to be filled and go fill it. When a community comes together to help someone else, the possibilities are endless. It has a ripple effect. When someone sees how their generosity – even something as simple as a dollar – helps someone else, it makes them want to do more. And God has used the stories from Dollar Club to change my life. With every story we tell, I’m reminded of what is really important – Loving God, loving people, taking care of each other and using our gifts and talents to do good in the world.”

While the Dollar Club has helped people, families, and organizations in Nashville, they’ve also told stories and helped organizations throughout the US and most recently in Kolkata, India. “It is only through the generosity of a whole lot of people that the Dollar Club is able to help as many people as it does. And I’m just grateful that we get to be a part of telling their stories,” says Eicher. “We spent a week in Kolkata, India last fall in the boys home and girls home that SEED built and in the slums of Kolkata where most of these kids grew up. I left a piece of my heart in Kolkata.” The money donated from the Dollar Club to the SEED organization helped to finish building out the boys’ home giving the boys, who mostly grew up in the slums, a safe place to live, eat, go to school and prosper. Locally the Dollar Club benefits organizations like Rest Stop Ministries, a not-for-profit 501-(c)3 faith-based organization in the Nashville, TN area dedicated to comprehensively restoring female survivors of domestic sex trafficking.

One of our favorite questions to ask these inspiring women is what advice they would give to young females looking to work in the music industry. Eicher says to figure out who you are at your core and stay true to that, and certainly, don’t let this industry change who you are.“Trust and know at this moment you are exactly where you are supposed to be and if you continue to work with integrity and honesty, stay true to who you are, stand up for yourself and be good to people – there is nothing you can’t do.”

NYCS Swag Spotlight: Kree Harrison

Kree Harrison

Kree Harrison may have been born in Woodville, Texas but the singer-songwriter who tells us in our recent interview that she was singing before she could even speak, made the move to Nashville much earlier than many of our Swag Spotlights.  Harrison rose to popularity after her incredible performances on American Idol back in 2013.  The songstress finished in the runner-up spot on the singing competition show but what you may not know is that she started her career in music when she was only ten years old. “I always loved music and entertaining and I think the first time I sang in public I was three years old,” she tells us. Feeling natural on stage in front of an audience, she explains she was bitten by the bug very early on.

Thankful for her parents support, they uprooted their lives and moved to Nashville when Harrison was only nine years old. “It’s crazy, more commonly, most people know me from American Idol but the truth is I’ve been here for 20 years,” she says. Laughing she tells us how she and her little brother couldn’t believe that you could call a pizza place and they would deliver the pizza right to your house, considering back in her small home town of Texas, that wasn’t even a thing.

She loved all types of music growing up but recalls Otis Redding being played around her house and the way the soulful music made her feel.  Besides R&B she listened to old school country music like Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline, and Merle Haggard and as she got older, she was influenced by ’90s country like The Judds, Trisha Yearwood and Lee Ann Womack just like many of the modern-day country artists.

As an artist, Harrison loves to mash the two genres, creating her own lane and a signature sound. “I really do try to marry my influences all together and hope that it sounds like me and not just, ‘Well she is just country or just blues,” she explains. She hates that genres try to put creative people in a box, laughing as she tells us that the night prior to our interview she was with friends and she played a Merle Haggard immediately followed by covering a Cardi B song.

Her latest single “I Love The Lie” was a track Harrison heard during pre-production for her upcoming album and she just knew she had to record it. The honest track was written by Chris Stapleton, his wife Morgane Stapleton and Liz Rose (“Girl Crush”). We discussed the decision for her to cut an outside song for her album and to be the first single from her sophomore album. “It just stood out to me, like a ‘duh’ moment, I have to sing this, I believe in it,” she told us. ” It would be ignorant for me to just write my whole record without listening to outside songs, especially in my writing community here, I am so spoiled with songs that are written by singer-songwriters or just writers that write amazing stuff, I can’t imagine crossing it out just because I am not a writer on that song.”

She looks ahead to releasing her second album, excited to get the music out to her fans and get on a radio tour to promote “I Love The Lie”.

Jessie James Decker Releases “Roots and Wings” & Kicks Off Tour

Jessie James Decker Roots and Wings

Jessie James Decker celebrated her thirty-first birthday in a big way on Friday, April 12th. She released her first single of 2019, “Roots and Wings”. A little different pace from her 2018 single “Boots” but keeping the 90s Shania Twain vibe, this is one you’ll be singing for a long time.

“This is one of my favorite songs I’ve written and I’m excited to share it with y’all!!”, she shared on her Instagram. The single certainly shows how talented the songstress truly is, showing off her voice and the variety of ranges she can hit. Decker co-wrote the song with Alyssa Bonagura, Dave Pittenger, and Shane Stevens.

“Roots and wings/I’m somewhere in between/Where I’m from and what I dream/What I’ve known and what I’ve seen/No matter where I go/The sky above, the ground below/My heart will have a home/Cause I got these/Roots and wings”

While the entire song is powerful, the chorus is where it gets personal. It hints that Decker has been through a lot but likes where her path has taken her and no matter where her journey continues to take her, she’ll be more than okay. Something we can all relate to.

Thirty-one is off to a good start for the singer-songwriter. Not only did she release her new single, but on Friday she also kicked off her 19-city headliner tour. Starting in Denver and wrapping up in Houston in June, Decker will also be performing and Stagecoach and CMA Fest.

While Decker hasn’t been on the road in two years, she certainly has been more than busy. She welcomed her third child, Forrest Bradley, to the world, wrote a book Just Jessie, My Guide to Love, Life, Family, and Food, which made the New York Times Bestselling List and opened her first brick and mortar store for Kittenish.  Although she has only been thirty-one for a couple of days, it’s going to be a year to remember.

Catch Jessie James Decker when she brings her tour to NYC on May 16th at The Beacon Theatre.
