Justin Moore’s Releases Remorseful “Someday I Gotta Quit”

Someday I Gotta Quit

With just under a month until the release of his new album, Late Nights and Longnecks, Justin Moore continues to tease fans with new songs, including “Someday I Gotta Quit,” released today.

Written by Moore, Casey Beathard, Paul DiGiovanni, and Jeremy Stover, the song follows in the footsteps of the other tracks released so far. Like “On the Rocks,” “Jesus and Jack Daniels,” and “The Ones That Didn’t Make it Back Home,” “Someday I Gotta Quit,” shows Moore flexing his traditional country side. With a little bit of outlaw, a little bit of liquor, a little bit of remorse and a whole lotta twang, “Someday I Gotta Quit” has all the essential elements of a classic country tune.

The song starts with darker music, Moore’s deep voice crooning of the mistakes he’s made. However, on the chorus, the track picks up as he admits that he has many vices that someday he’s gotta quit. “Between the whiskey and the nicotine/ The wrong girls and the right jeans/ And all the other fires that keep burning me I keep lit/ It ain’t never gonna happen, some say/ Oh but somehow, someway, someday I gotta quit.”

“Someone asked me about drinking or something one night,” Moore shared with American Songwriter. “I just simply said, ‘Yeah someday I gotta quit.’ It made me think of things we all talk about as it pertains to our own personal struggles, whatever they may be. I threw the idea out to my co-writers, and we just ran with the fictional story about the guy in the song who has his own set of struggles. Hopefully, everyone can relate, regardless of what their struggles are personally. No doubt, we all have them.”

Lacy Cavalier Spills The “Tea” In Her Brand New Sassy Single

Lacy Cavalier

Nashville’s Song Suffragettes member, Lacy Cavalier has been dropping new songs for the last several months, including “Cheating On U,” “Get Away With It,” “Andre” and most recently “Blue Suede Couch.”  Today, the soulful songstress released another sassy track entitled “Tea,” accompanied by equally as impressive visuals that fit the vibe of the song perfectly.

Cavalier is known for pushing boundaries with her music. She can deliver an emotive ballad just as well as she can express herself through a more upbeat and charming track. “Tea” is the latter. The new song features play on words, utilizing the popular expression ‘spilling the tea’, as an intricate part of the message. According to Cavalier, the track is her subtle way of letting her ex’s new girlfriend know that she’s being cheated on, just like he cheated on her.

Truly showing that she’s a girl’s girl, the singer-songwriter encourages her ex’s new lady to wake up and see the guy for who he truly is. Furthermore, the accompanying visuals add a spunky edge to the track, as Cavalier is seen donning a Victorian-inspired dress, while she drinks tea out of a fancy cup. In her YouTube caption, she explains perfectly that, “the song paints a picture of the contradictory social event that is “having tea.” Prim and proper wardrobe, attitudes, and surrounds meets unbecoming chatter [gossip].

We’re loving her attitude, style, creativity, and authenticity that is so evident in all of her songs, especially “Tea.” As she continues to prepare to release her EP K, I’m Done, we expect to hear more from Cavalier soon. She is slated to play music festivals this summer, including Country Crossings Music Festival, Mountain Home Country Music Festival, and back to her home state of Louisiana for the Louisiana Peach Festival. For tickets and more information, make sure to head to lacycavalier.com.

His Fans Asked For It, Chris Lane Releases “Big, Big Plans”

Earlier last week, Chris Lane had some “Big Big Plans” as he proposed to his then girlfriend, Lauren Bushnell. The two have been dating publicly for 8 months, since the BMI Country Awards in November, and fans have fallen in love with the couple as the world watched their relationship grow. Some may remember Bushnell’s star role in Lane’s vertical music video for “Take Back Home Girl” on Spotify before the two reconnected months later!

While at Bushnell’s home in Oregon, celebrating Father’s Day, Lane expressed to Bushnell that he wanted to capture the moment of him sharing the new song he wrote for her for the first time. Little did she know, by the end of the song she would be engaged.

The song starts out with a simple acoustic guitar pick and turns into a catchy hook by the time the chorus comes around. “Big Big Plans” describes their relationship to a T as Lane sings, “And I know she wouldn’t mind if I // Did a little something like find a flight // Overnight to paradise and leave tonight.” By following Lane on Instagram, we know that whenever he has a break from touring, he and Bushnell love to get away for a while.

The second chorus sets in and describes him hiding the ring under the bathroom sink, asking her parents for her hand in marriage, and his thoughts about the future. “But I don’t think she can understand // Just how far I’ve been letting my heart fall // Or what’s in my head // She don’t know I got some big, big plans.” While the song is short and simple, it is beautifully written for one special person.

Once the song was posted with their announcement, fans eagerly began asking when the track was going to be released. With such a high demand for the tune, Lane is making it available for fans to listen to on repeat everywhere. On top of getting engaged, the singer is out on the road this summer with Brad Paisley and Riley Green on the 2019 World Tour.

“Big, Big Plans” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more recently released music here on our “New Country Music” playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.

NYCS First Impression: Josh Abbott Band ‘Catching Fire’ EP

Catching Fire Josh Abbott Band

The summer of 2019 is certainly a great one for lovers of country music. Today, on June 28th, a country music favorite, the Josh Abbott Band released their newest EP, Catching Fire and it is sure to add some extra heat to your summer playlist.

The four-song EP has a fun and positive feel to it, giving off nothing but good vibes and feelings of new beginnings, while still staying true to their roots and their signature sound. Featuring their already widely received single ‘Little More You’, songs like “Catching Fire”, “Surprise Surprise” and “Oughta Get Drunk” will make you want to lay back, relax and be your best self while at the same time let loose and party.

Their single ‘Little More You’ is accompanied by a story-telling music video starring Jep and Jess Robertson of “Duck Dynasty” as the couple in love, following them around on a beautiful sunny day as they enjoy themselves and the finer things in life, such as whiskey, blue skies, and the beach.

One of the most liked comments on the video reads, “I feel like you guys just reinvented yourselves with that classic JAB sound, but with a 2019 swag to it. So happy to hear this sound from you guys again!”

Produced by Marshall Altman, Catching Fire brings a sense of nostalgia and return back to their foundation and roots, and the sound that made them who they are, while at the same time focusing on the theme that as old chapters are being closed, new ones are ‘catching fire.’ Said best in ‘Surprise Surprise’, ‘I’ve done a lot of things wrong but at least something turned out right!”

NYCS First Impression: Runaway June ‘Blue Roses’

Blue Roses Runaway June

Just nine months after the premiere of their self-titled debut EP, the talented ladies of Runaway June have finally released their debut album Blue Roses. Complete with ten brilliant tracks, the songstresses channel their heartbreaks, sassiness, vulnerability, and girl-power into an impressive compilation of songs.

The record opens up with “Head Over Heels,” a song that honestly expresses the stigma of women having a one night stand. We caught up with two of the members of the trio, Hannah and Jennifer, during Taste of Country Music Festival, where they shared that they wanted to write and sing about a subject that is not typically discussed in country music, especially from the perspective of an all girl-trio. Check out the interview where they discuss the album and the song below.

Cleverly placed as the next song on the track list, Runaway June’s current infectious single, “Buy My Own Drinks” celebrate women empowerment and independence, post-break-up. The ladies continue their confident and sassy attitudes in “Fast As You,” another track that debuted originally on their EP. Naomi, Hannah, and Jennifer put their own twist on Dwight Yoakam’s song, reminding men that they can “break hearts too.”

On the contrary, the songstresses sing in “I Know the Way” that they “know the way to unbreak your heart.” The flirty song is a unique twist on a classic love story, featuring more uptempo instrumentals and a confident female protagonist, enticing a love interest to come to the bar downtown to dance with her.

Slowing it down a bit, the singer-songwriters harmonize on the nostalgic song “We Were Rich.” The ladies reminisce about simpler times, where finding money in a couch cushion, the old church, family time, and singing hymns meant that they had everything they could have ever wanted. Admitting in the last verse that though they’ve become more successful, they would always view those times as their ‘richest.’ “We didn’t have it all / but we all thought we did / Mama always said that we were blessed and I believed her / Never thought the grass was greener / on the other side of our old chain link fence / Yeah, we were rich.”

The women continue the theme of gratitude in their song “Good Bad & Ugly,” which depicts a healthy relationship. Naomi, Hannah, and Jennifer harmonize beautifully, as they sing the chorus, sharing “I’m a saint, I’m a sinner, I’m a train-wreck / Just about as wild as they get / but you still love me, good, bad, and ugly,” adding that they “must have done something right in another life” to be with the one they’re with.

On the opposite spectrum, Runaway June’s lament about loss and heartbreak on the record in both “I Am Too” and the title track. The former is a self-reflective ballad, picking apart the emotions and situations associated with a recent break-up, and wondering if their ex is feeling the same way. The chorus, though heartbreaking, is as relatable and raw as it gets.

The latter, “Blue Roses” is a deeply personal song that deals with loss in a unique way. Despite how personal it is, the songstresses openly sing about their vices and wanting their loved ones back on the track, which will surely resonate with fans everywhere, and make naysayers stop to listen and appreciate the talented trio that are Runaway June.

Runaway June delivered a well-balanced debut album that will surely garner them praise and many more fans. We cannot wait to see what is next to come for the girl group, and look forward to their future success. New York fans can catch the ladies on Carrie Underwood’s ‘The Cry Pretty Tour 360’ alongside duo, Maddie & Tae on October 2nd at the iconic Madison Square Garden. [Watch] Keith Urban and Kassi Ashton’s Video for “Drop Top”

The reigning 2018 CMA Entertainer of the Year and 2019 ACM Entertainer of the Year, superstar Keith Urban released the music video for his latest single “Drop Top” featuring rising artist and one of our 2019 Artist to Watch, Kassi Ashton. Viewers get a first-hand look into the energy Urban brings to the stage as the video showcases his performance at one of his shows of the Grafitti U Tour.

Written by Urban, Josh Osborne, Jimmy Robbins, and Maureen McDonald, “Drop Top” is the ultimate road-trip song about a girl with new found freedom on her way to Coachella with feathers in her hair and girlfriends by her side. The video begins with a roaring crowd and Urban making his way from his tour bus to the stage. Urban effortlessly plays guitar and sings to thousands of screaming fans.

Ashton appears on the large screens behind Urban as her powerful voice sings over a thumping bass and heavy guitar. Flashing white lights create a club-like atmosphere as she sings the pulsing chorus, “Saturday night, feeling alright / Show him what he lost in my jeans skin tight / Stars coming out, the music up loud / Saturday night, feeling alright.” Clips from when Ashton joined Urban live at his show in Nashville are intertwined in the dynamic music video that magnifies the undeniably exciting and unique collaboration.

This is the third song that Urban has released so far in 2019. “Drop Top” is a follow up to the cover of Foy Vance’s “Burden” and his most recent sentimental hit song “We Were” co-written by Eric Church. Urban will continue his #1 Graffiti U Tour throughout the rest of the summer at various festivals along with a stop in Atlantic City, NJ at The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Saturday, August 17th.

Scotty McCreery Shows Both Sides of His Life in “In Between” Music Video

Scotty McCreery is back with his next heartfelt single and music video. McCreery’s previous two singles, “Five More Minutes” and “This Is It” from his third studio album, Seasons Change reached the top of the country music charts. His fans were highly anticipating the next single off this album. The song “In Between” lyrically gives fans a step into his own world and was written by McCreery with Jonathan Singleton, Jessi Alexander, and Frank Rogers. The music video released just this past week does the same visually.

The video begins with an unconventional and classic split screen overlay. This primarily sets the wholesome tone of the entire video giving fans the impression of a cherished home video. It pans to areas of McCreery’s professional career playing for large crowds, flying all over the country then ushering into more family-oriented scenes with his wife and dog that both making adorable cameos. McCreery than echoes these moments of being caught in between these two ‘lives’ with the lyrics, “I’m in between/ Friday night wild/ And quiet Sunday morning.” Specific scenes of this video directed by Jay Ray stand-out such as the Raleigh water tower setting the hometown scene for the beginning of the video. In addition, the still black and white pictures at the end of the video show a mix of McCreery’s life through pictures of him and his wife’s family lifestyle and where his professional music career has taken him.

“In Between” is such a special video for McCreery and fans alike because it gives them insight into his life. McCreery recently said to USA TODAY Network where the visual originally premiered, “It’s about really knowing who I am,’ McCreery said. “Hopefully, folks will hear it and not only get to know me a little bit better but as they continue to listen, hopefully, they can better know themselves as well.” The music video for “In Between” fully reflects the lyrics McCreery sings in this song mirroring both important aspects of his life: family and music.
