Rachel Wammack’s Prayer In Music Form, “When I Say Amen”

Rachel Wammack When I Say Amen

One of the strongest female vocalists in the country genre right now, Rachel Wammack just released a beautiful prayer in music form titled “When I Say Amen”. During this pandemic, one thing that has helped so many is turning to the quiet moments where they can reflect on the good in their lives or the good that can be seen happening around the world.

“At the end of a prayer, running out on the edge, on fire like a sunset / I lift my hands to first love, shooting stars, burning candles in the dark /  every step, every breath that’s when I say ‘Amen'”

Wammack takes you on a motivating yet peaceful journey during her new song written with Matt Maher and Sam Ellis. She took to Instagram live yesterday to talk about the need to release this song at this time. She spoke about the tornadoes that ripped through Nashville in March and how she found herself waiting for the storm to pass and praying. “I feel like, as I was listening to “When I Say Amen” in the car, I went back to that moment in the tornado and then to quarantine, which sometimes feels like that moment all over again, really scary and I feel like every day I have leaned on prayer, more than anything”.

Wammack’s powerful vocals over a shimmering production allow the listener to zero in on something so important during a time of crisis, faith that everything will get better. For more from the songstress check out our Swag Session from late 2019 below.

NYCS First Impression: Lena Stone ‘Princess’ EP

Lena Stone Princess EP

Today marks the release day of powerful songstress and former Swag Spotlight, Lena Stone’s newest project, an EP entitled Princess. Stone is one of the founding members of Nashville’s female community of songwriters, the Song Suffragettes. However, now she is stepping out on her own and displaying her stellar songwriting and vocals to the world on this five-song record.

The EP kicks off with one of the two previously released tracks, “Hotel”. A feel-good anthem, the song is a reminder to all of us to just simply enjoy life. The pop-country track has summer written all over again and begs for imagery of driving down the highway in a convertible. Furthermore, the double meaning of the lyric “Leave your baggage at home and let’s take it to the hotel” is nothing short of brilliant.

The other previously released song, “Personal Space” flips the notion of closeness and clinginess in relationships on its head. Instead of pulling away from affection, Stone sings about wanting her partner to be as close as possible. In the flirty and cheeky song, she revels about that desirable sense of closeness.

“I want to show you all, my favorite records / Hang out with you in my, old navy sweatshirt /
If I’m being honest, I’m never thins honest / So ask me my biggest secret / Baby I know you’ll keep it”

The record continues with the title track, “Princess”. Stone makes references to Disney princesses in the first verse and ways they could have solved their predicaments. Contrary to what others may think, Stone has no desire to be anyone’s princess or find ‘a white knight’. The jam focuses on female empowerment and independence in such an enticing and thought-provoking way.

“If you’re looking for a white knight honey good luck finding one /
If you lose your shoe at midnight, baby girl you’re probably drunk”

Continuing with her truthful and honest narrative, “Kids These Days” is clearly written from her perspective, as she, talks about all the ways that her generation is still learning and evolving, as well as, all the issues we may encounter. Each verse explores the depths of growing up a little bit further, helping to secure “Kids These Days” as one of the standouts on the record.

“Never going to grow / No, we ain’t ever going to change / Maybe we’re old, but so what /
Every generation’s the same / We’re just kids, these days / Kids these days”

Finally, the record ends with a much needed soft spot, a ballad entitled “Out Of My Hands.” The heart-wrenching break-up song shows that although confident and independent, Stone is human, and feels the hurt, anguish, and emotions that we all do. “Out Of My Hands” explores the notion that we can often control so much in our lives; however, we cannot control another person nor can we control their actions. Her prowess as a songwriter is at an all-time high in this shining track, but it is her vocals that are top-notch.

Princess leaves you wanting more in the best possible way. Stone pours her heart out for listeners and creates a story that makes you want to hear more. We are big fans of her, and we know you will be too after you listen to this project!

Garrett Jacobs Celebrates “Young Love” In Fun New Song

Young Love Garrett Jacobs

Rising country singer Garrett Jacobs has just dropped his new summer-ready single, “Young Love.” And, let’s just say— it’s a big-time BOP.

The feel-good jam captures the innocence and bliss of being in love, as writers Jacobs, Jason Massey, and Michael Whitworth use the transitional post-high school to college transition as a narrative backdrop. Production-wise, this uptempo tune leans more on the country-pop side with its drums, guitar and snaps, with the mandolin in the verses giving it a nice country touch.

“You love and you learn / you go wild you get hurt / you heal and you grow but you never forget those / first times and time wasted, red lights and hearts racing / top down on the GTO, JT on the radio,” Jacobs sings on this fun anthem, as he reminisces the beauty of young love.

Last year, the Louisiana native was a featured artist on CMT’s Artist Discovery program, with the music video for “Just Like You” debuting at No. 5 on CMT’s 12 Pack Countdown show and he is currently in the studio working on even more new music.

We’re not sure about you, but we for one are adding this to our list of summer and feel-good jams, and can’t wait for more music from this promising 20-year-old!

To keep up with Garrett Jacobs, follow him on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Newcomer Ashland Craft Premieres Debut “Trainwreck”

Ashland Craft

Country music newest songstress, Ashland Craft has been making waves as the opening act on tours with the likes of Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen. Between her gritty vocals and her honesty, Craft fits right in with the boys. Her debut single “Trainwreck” premiered today.

With her first release, Craft proves that she is not afraid to approach subjects normally sung by male country artists. The vocalist sings about being a heartbreaker in the sentimental, yet edgy slow jam. She admits to not having it all together calling herself a “trainwreck,” and revealing, “It’s a sure bet, you’ll get your heart broke every time.” Her first release will tug at your heartstrings, but it is her vulnerable delivery that will make you root for her success. Along with her debut release, Craft announced that she signed a record deal with Big Loud, the record label home of Chris Lane, HARDY, and Morgan Wallen, amongst other powerhouse rising talent.

“Signing a record deal is always something that I dreamed about and I honestly can’t believe the day is finally here. This is the biggest milestone I’ve hit so far in my life, hands down. Everyone that I’m surrounded by – Big Loud Records, Make Wake Artists, and 50 Egg Music – they honestly are my dream team. It just makes me want to work even harder to honor all of the opportunity that I’ve been given.”

Since moving to Nashville, the singer has both branded herself and toured with some of the most popular names in country music right now like Blake Shelton, and one of our favorites, HARDY. We can’t wait to see how her debut and her country-rock sound resonates with fans, but we think female country fans especially will relate to her authenticity. As always, we will keep you posted on this country music newcomer’s journey.

An Anthem & Tribute To His Fans, Kenny Chesney Drops “We Do”

Kenny Chesney We Do

One thing remains true about music: it doesn’t mean anything without someone to listen. Of course, you can feel proud to create such an intricate blend of chords over a meaningful lyric, but without the fans, the art itself isn’t complete. This is where Kenny Chesney comes in. He is one of many artists who show true appreciation for the people who stand before him in each and every venue, summer after summer. This new single is meant to capture that relationship.

“This is a song that wouldn’t exist without all those people on my road family, the folks at all the stadiums nationwide, the radio people who start blasting our music when we’re coming to town,” Chesney admits in a press release. “But even more importantly, without No Shoes Nation.”

It is simple to envision the crowd chanting back the words to their own dedication during the next stadium tour. In fact, Chesney incorporated the precise moments to do so by inserting chants in the song itself. It is deemed to become a fan-favorite moment at each and every show. For those No Shoes Nation enthusiasts and supporters, this is a dream come true.

“I always talk about how I can hear them from the bus,” says Chesney, “and that fun just gets backstage, floats through the air. You get caught up in it. And I hear the stories, about Lot 12, the people who come together from all over, the cookouts, the tiki bars, the people raising money for charity… They take all that energy, then they go out into the world and live their lives the same way. Knowing that, you really do want to ask, ‘Who lives like we do?’ Because the answer is simple: ‘We Do.’”

“Who gets to roll like we do? (We do) Yeah, who wants to rock like we do? (We do) / Yeah who ain’t gonna stop and no matter what / And who gets to live like we do? (We do)”

Among several other instant grat songs, “Here and Now”, “Knowing You”, and “Guys Named Captain”, “We Do” is the final release before the full project drops next Friday, May 1st.

To keep up with Kenny Chesney, follow him on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.

Sam Hunt Joins Breland on “My Truck” Remix

My Truck Breland Sam Hunt

Hip-hop and country music are two genres that artists like to meld together. They’ve been doing it for years; acts like Florida Georgia Line, as well as Lil Nas X on “Old Town Road” have jumped in on the trend. One of the first country acts to really combine the two genres was Sam Hunt back in 2014 with his debut record, Montevallo. So it makes perfect sense that he’d join Breland on the TikTok famous “My Truck” for a special remix.

For those who don’t know Breland, he is a 24-year-old from New Jersey who recently finished his undergrad at Georgetown University. His influences range from Rascal Flatts to Prince to Stevie Wonder, and while his music sounds very modern, these influences shine by listening to his vocal tone. Hunt has a similar background musically: he grew up on traditional and 90s country his entire childhood, and when he got to college started loving artists like Billy Currington, Ray Charles, and JoJo. To hear the two on a song together sounds pretty natural considering they’re both songwriters who love all music, not just country.

The remix builds upon Breland’s first version. The guitar is gritty and high-school-garage-band like, which is a perfect vibe for a song about a truck, one that you would blast in said vehicle. The drums are a traditional trap beat, but with Hunt’s soulful and crisp voice, he is able to make one cling onto every word partially because of how clear he sounds as well as his emphatic diction.

Lyrically, the song is pretty simple. “You can say you hate me / You can call me crazy / But don’t touch my truck,” Breland sings on the hook. Hunt, who takes the verses, expands on this idea, telling listeners that they can take anything, but his truck is off-limits. “Tell them boys come and get me / I be riddin’ through the city.” It’s a relatively upbeat and light-hearted song, and it’s super catchy, making it a probable bonafide hit.

With so much time to kill and Tik Tok being the “it” app of the moment, it would be no surprise if a dance went along with the song. It’s fun and perfect for the warmer weather that is approaching, or as Hunt himself sings on his song “Single For The Summer”, “The sun keeps getting closer, sinking a little slower every day.”

The original “My Truck” already has over 50 million streams worldwide, as well as 11 million music-video views as of now. Released independently at first, Breland has proved that he has the talent and the drive to make it in the industry. With a superstar like Hunt on the new record, the success of the song can only go up. Music is made to move people, but sometimes what we really need is sunshine and songs light-hearted enough to make us forget our worries for a minute.

To keep up with Sam Hunt, you can follow him on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

“My Truck” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music on our ‘New Country Music’ playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.

Walker Hayes Delivers A Fresh Beat in New Single, “Trash My Heart”

Trash My Heart Walker Hayes

In late 2019, Walker Hayes released the third volume of his epic ‘8Tracks’ record, titled Black Sheep. Since then, we’ve eagerly awaited more new music, as we can always count on him to release innovative and unique tracks with sounds that we never knew we needed. Hayes lived up to every expectation and more with his new jam, “Trash My Heart”. This reckless and carefree track uses a short-lived hotel stay metaphor to describe a doomed relationship, where the protagonist throws out all cares and has fun anyway.

Walker Hayes delivers a sonically interesting beat, with an intro that masterfully mixes reggae, hip-hop, and country sounds. The feel-good rhythm accompanied by the singer-songwriter’s flirtatious and spunky voice inflections creates a song that is a total blast to listen to.

Hayes cleverly weaves hotel-themed plays on words, to bolster the analogy throughout and express a carefree interest in having a good time.

“If I’m just a weekend to you // girl I’m so Holiday Inn–to you”

This playful line leads us into the catchy chorus, where the singer uses his falsetto voice as he reaches the height of the story.

“Trash my heart like a hotel room, steal my kisses like it’s free shampoo // Don’t be careful with me baby just get reckless // baby you can even leave before the continental breakfast”

The nimble wordplay and sassy beat continue throughout these lyrics, as Hayes continues to relate a short-lived stay to his current situation.

Hayes teased this new song and cover art on his Instagram page, where he is known for fostering a dedicated relationship with his fans. The artist posted a story with the lyrics “Trash my heart like a ____,” and encouraged his audience to fill in the missing word. He then posted all of the funny responses. This is one of the many creative promotional activities that Hayes engaged in to connect with his fans.

To celebrate this release, the hitmaker will be hosting a “Virtual Release Party”, which he also dubbed as a virtual release “DARTY” (day party). Fans will have the opportunity to hang out with Walker Hayes live and even message with him personally. Also, be sure to tune in to our Virtual Country Brunch on Saturday at 12 ET when we hang with the entire Hayes family.

We’re super excited to play this genre-bending hit on repeat and can already picture it as a windows-down, feel-good summer anthem.

NYCS First Impression: Avenue Beat ‘the quarantine covers’

Avenue Beat Quarantine Covers

STREAM IT HERE

Our favorite new girl group, Avenue Beat is combatting the craziness of quarantine and the pandemic by giving us a fun new project to listen to, following the recent release of their newest original “thank you anxiety”. The talented trio recorded five of their favorite songs, adding their own flair and insane harmonies to each track in a project they are calling the quarantine covers.

Besides the fact that the three singers, Sami, Savana, and Sam are all extremely talented vocalists and songwriters, this record stands out for its unique influences. Each of the five songs that Avenue Beat chose to cover were originally recorded by artists from all different genres and eras of music. Moreover, the ladies took it back to their roots, singing and recording covers, a skill that put them on the map.

After a quick intro, the record kicks off with an enticing cover of hip-hop artist, Doja Cat’s “Say So.” Sami, Savana, and Sam turn the usually upbeat song into a touching and emotive acoustic song, which perfectly embodies their unique artistry. They refer to their rendition as a “Norah Jones” inspired tune on their Instagram. The next song, “Video” was originally recorded by Grammy-winner India Arie, a soul and pop artist. Both tracks feature Avenue Beat’s style, but “Video” seems to be a song that the trio could have written themselves. Their version, though stripped down, keeps with the authenticity of the original, giving off that soulful flair.

The next two songs on the project might be the most recognizable. The first is John Mayer’s “New Light.” The acoustic cover pays homage to the almost psychedelic rhythm of the original. Of course, the ladies also include a stunning cover of Tim McGraw’s “Humble And Kind,” a cover that they originally premiered on their Instagram. Some may also recognize this song as prolific songwriter, Lori McKenna’s iconic solo write. Their harmonies add an incredibly divine twist to the brilliant track.

Finally, the records wraps with the last song, “Just The Two Of Us.” The song is a classic 80s track written and recorded by both Bill Withers and Grover Washington Jr.  Avenue Beat completely reinvent the song, while still keeping with the integrity of the original. Once again their ability to make listeners feel like a classic song is their own is truly unmatched.

As if it wasn’t perfect enough, Avenue Beat also include an “Outro” to formally end their fun and quirky project. The ending is 40 seconds of The Beatles infamous song “All You Need is Love,” which is the perfect reminder in these crazy times.

NYCS First Impression: Drake White ‘Stars’

drake white stars

With one of music’s biggest and most underrated voices, country’s soul man Drake White is back with a new EP, Stars, out today (April 24). The EP is the follow up to 2018’s Pieces EP, and marks White’s first release on his own label, Reverend White Records.

The soulful songwriter co-wrote three of the EP’s five tracks, and also enlisted the songwriting talents of Josh Kerr, Cary Barlowe, Ross Ellis, Ryan Beaver, Rodney Clawson, Adam Hambrick, and more. Produced by Cadillac Three singer-songwriter Jaren Johnston, Stars is a passionate, grooving, and honest collection of some of White’s best work to date.

The EP opens with “Luckiest Man,” and one can’t help but wonder if the track was inspired by White’s health issues over the past year. In early 2019, White revealed to PEOPLE that he was suffering from Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM), which is an abnormal configuration of the arteries and veins in the brain, causing issues with blood flow. In July, the energetic singer suffered an on-stage scare and underwent a serious of embolizations to remedy his condition. Yet, none of that gets him down on this EP.

White’s positivity and spirit are evident throughout the EP, but maybe no more so than on “Eat, Drink & Dream,” which White called “a declaration of relentless optimism.” Speaking to Billboard, he says of the song, “In the face of adversity, when no one is looking, that is when an individual’s true character is revealed. That’s what this song is — a power dose of optimism that you can!”

The entire collection stays true to White’s brand, combining soul, funk, groove, and country with his clever lyrics and sense of humor. “My Favorite Band” is a groovy uptempo where White sings about his musical influences, before putting a fun spin on the track. While he calls out a ton of his favorite artists here, he pivots the fun track into a love song. “Baby look down at your left hand,” He sings. “That’s my favorite band.”

The EP ends with “All Would Be Right With the World,” a song that we could all use in the crazy times, as White celebrates all the things that would make the world right. “What if beer and friend chicken/ Didn’t make us fat and sicken?” He muses here, “What if cigarettes and whiskey/ they didn’t try to kill me?” In true White form, he spins the track again, making it about love, as he proclaims, “If every morning I woke up right beside you girl/ All would be right with the world.”

Stars tracklist:
1. Luckiest Man (Ben Burgess, Josh Kerr, Alysa Vanderheym, Cary Barlowe)
2. Mix ‘Em With Whiskey (Ryan Beaver, Rodney Clawson, Adam Hambrick, Andrew DeRoberts)
3. Eat, Drink & Dream (Drake White, Tommy Cecil, Greylan James)
4. My Favorite Band (Drake White, Ross Ellis, Dan Fernandez, Michael Whitworth)
5. All Would Be Right With The World (Drake White, Tommy Cecil, Matt Alderman)
