Lauren Alaina Shares Inspiring Story About Her Late Stepfather, Sings “The Other Side”

Lauren Alaina The Other Side

During her set in New York City last month, Lauren Alaina took a break from her hits to tell the sold-out venue about an intimate conversation that her stepfather, Sam, had with their family on the day that he lost his battle with cancer.

Sam told them how he could see heaven, Jesus, and his mom. Alaina sharing this moment with her beloved fans allowed the New York City fans to feel even more connected to the singer-songwriter.

“If you’ve lost someone, this is for you…” she shared before tearfully singing her tribute to Sam, “The Other Side”.

4. Dan + Shay
One of the things we love most about the dynamic duo, Dan + Shay’s Instagram is that they take care of their own socials! Although they clearly have reached the caliber to have a team carefully post for them, Dan has been very vocal about how the men run their own socials. The level of access the platinum-selling superstar’s give to their fans is both endearing and unique.

5. Lacy Cavalier
One of our favorite independent songstress’ Lacy Cavalier has one of the most humorous Instagrams on the platform. Her infectious personality shines both on her page, and last year, when we chatted with her during a Swag Session. She involves her fans in contests and even when her music is slated to release. Her platform serves as equal parts a positive space for female-empowerment and everyday life.

7. Devin Dawson
The Dark Horse himself, Devin Dawson has one of the most distinct Instagrams on the platform. His carefully cultivated feed is full of moody, black and white pictures that showcase the intersection between his music and his personal life. We especially love that the singer stays true to his brand and his aesthetic, posting his stories in black and white too. Dawson’s Instagram truly gives fans a better understanding of who he is, which is a breath of fresh air.

If College Wasn’t The Best Four Years of Your Life, That’s Okay

College Wasn't the Best Years of Your Life

From the minute we understand what college is, most people can’t wait to go. The portrayal in movies and on TV of life-long friendships, endless parties, and epic sports teams has many of us convinced it will be the best years of our lives. And for some people, it truly is. But for others, it’s just another stage of life, and that’s okay too.

A college education can take many forms. Not everyone enrolls in a four-year program (shout out to junior college grads and those with Associates Degrees) and of those who do, not everyone goes straight after high school. Some people live on campus and some commute. Some join clubs and activities and some don’t.

What most people seem to forget is that college is about more than the perfectly curated Facebook or Instagram feed. Studying and getting good grades and having fun doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive, but for every person who had the picture-perfect college experience, there is someone else who wishes they’d picked a different school. Or a different major. Or worked harder in their classes, or connected with more people. Or discovered a new passion. Or made an impact on their community.

We live in a world where expectations for experiences are so ingrained in our psyche that any deviation from what we think of as “normal” is considered “bad”. But the truth is the only thing we have in common with each other is the fact that all of our experiences are uniquely different.

So the next time you feel left out when your friends talk about college as the “glory days” if they weren’t yours, just remember that you are not alone. And hey, if college wasn’t the pinnacle of your life so far, that just means your best days are still to come.

The Cadillac Three Release Country Rockin’ Single “Heat”

TC3 The Cadillac Three Heat

The Cadillac Three released their brand-new, country rockin’ single “Heat” in preparation for their new album Country Fuzz dropping this Friday, February 7th. This track follows a number of previously released samples such as “Hard Out Here For A Country Boy” and “Dirt Road Nights;” both features on the upcoming album. “Heat” is the last hoorah before the big anticipated release.

“Heat” is a vocoder stained, sensual song layered over intricate, yet powerful guitar fretwork combined with a simple drum beat that makes you wish you were also in the heat of the moment. Jaren Johnston, lead vocalist, tastefully documents that nothing is close to the heat that this girl brings. He sings: “Heat I ain’t ever felt // I finally got into hell // Her kiss keeps burnin’ me up // Keep bringin’ the heat // Girl, bring on the pain // That smoke, that whiskey rain // It’s too hard for me not to touch // Keep bringin’ the heat”

“We wrote ‘Heat’ in the back of the bus with Jimmy Robbins, Neal Mason, and Kelby, but that track was more of a Jimmy vibe so I had to take that and put it into a place that made sense for us but still was what Jimmy did,” Johnston spoke in an IGTV video, “A good sexy love song? C’mon, you win there.”

Kelby adds, potentially the best story of them all, “Heat is definitely one of my favorite songs. The funny thing is, we were coming up with ideas of which direction to take the song and I literally went inside to use the bathroom and I came out and they basically already finished the song. That’s the honest truth about how it was written.”

We love honesty.

The country-rock trio have kicked off their Country Fuzz Presents: The Cadillac Three tour and have added additional dates. Be sure to check out their dates here and New Yorkers can grab tickets to their February 12th show at Bowery Ballroom here.

To keep up with The Cadillac Three follow them on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.”

Nashville’s Newest Duo CB30 Releases “Love That About Her”

CB30

Nashville’s newest duo, CB30 is one to look out for. CB30 is the stage name for talented brothers and singers, Christian and Brody Clementi. Just last week, the twosome released a sentimental and heartwarming love song entitled “Love That About Her.”

The new song gives fans a perfect introduction into the singers’ sound and style. “Love That About Her” showcases lyrics that will make every girl swoon, as well as, killer harmonies that prove they are meant to sing together. The song proves to be a family affair with both Christian, their father, Jay Clementi, and talented songwriter, Steven Clawson receiving writing credits for the sentimental jam.

“She gets me dancing and that my ain’t my style / She keeps me glancing for that angel smile / Got me hanging on her every word / I love that about her”

Although simple, the instrumentation adds to the ambiance of the love song. The pop-country slow-jam proves that artists can be honest and open with their lyrics, but still produce a song that feels live-show ready. Fans of Dan + Shay, Ed Sheeran, and Justin Beiber are sure to take a liking to CB30’s newest release.

It will be interesting to see what the duo has in store for fans in 2020. Keep your eyes peeled for more new music that is slated to be released sometime soon!

Who Is Alex Hall? The Story Behind His Journey to Country Music

Who is Alex Hall? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about his journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

Alex Hall

The Beginning:

Our Swag Spotlight this week, Alex Hall spoke with our Managing Editor, Christina about growing up in Gainesville, GA, idolizing Elvis Presley and putting in 10 years honing his craft before signing his record deal with Monument Records. As a child, Hall lived on a small horse farm and would go to the rodeo every weekend to race his horses. His first recollection of loving music was randomly finding Elvis Presley, not only loving his music but everything about him. “Elvis grew up very country, in a rural area in Mississippi and then moved to Memphis, everything about him besides his music was really country,” he tells us. “I resonated with him so much, I would dress up as him and put on concerts with my karaoke machine and would sing his live concerts front to back. I studied him, I still to this day could probably give an entire documentary interview about him.”

His love for music was then shaped by his father listening to the country greats, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson while his mother was a rock n roll fan, playing ZZ Top, Black Sabbath, and AC/DC. Between sports, rodeo, starting to dig into songwriting and guitar, Hall was already busy in high school but when he was 15 years old he made his first trip to Nashville with his parents and his life changed forever.

The Turning Point:

From then on he would spend hours in the car driving back and forth from Nashville to Gainesville, taking cowrites, playing gigs, and working to gain some traction for himself in the music industry. After moving to Nashville after he graduated high school, Hall explains it was almost 10 years to the day from when he first visited Music City to when he was offered a record deal with Monument Records “I feel like it’s like you are earning your Masters Degree in the music industry,” he explains. It’s like you earn your education to where you get to graduate and perform surgery on people,  It’s the way that it works.”

Speaking of his record label, Monument Records, co-presidents Jason Owen and Shane McAnally fell in love with the singer-songwriter and upon meeting, offered him a record deal on the spot. McAnally had been on his list of dream cowriters for a long time, so to have the chance to actually work with him and have him believe in his music is something he cherishes. “Shane is amazing at tearing stuff apart and putting it back together in a beautiful way, I have learned to deconstruct stuff to build it stronger and better, he is an amazing guy, mentor, label head, producer, TV guy and all of the above.”

Today:

He then takes a moment to tell us about the first single they released last year, “Half Past You”. Looking for a breezy, acoustic song, to complement the groovy, electric and uptempo other songs on his debut project, the song was originally written by Hall along with Pete Good and AJ Babcock. Then he tells us, “Shane literally ‘Songlanded’ us, saying,  ‘I want to push you to rewrite these verses’, he sat in with us and we rewrote it and in about 10-15 minutes we had rewritten every verse and that is the version that’s out now.”

As for 2020, Hall is heading out of the United States for the first time in his life and gets to play C2C in London with headliner Eric Church as well as other festivals over the summer. He also plans to continue writing and recording for his debut record.

To keep up with Alex Hall follow him on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Luke Combs Makes His Saturday Night Live Debut

This past weekend (2/2), Luke Combs made his Saturday Night Live debut by singing his rowdy jam, “Beer Never Broke My Heart” and “Lovin’ On You”.  Backed by a full band, Combs represented the country genre in all its glory, featuring his heartfelt vocals and engrained him in history as one of the great performers on the television show. The night was hosted by NFL player JJ Watt, watch both performances below.

Both songs appear on his latest album, What You See Is What You Get and Combs will kick off his What You See Is What You Get Tour, featuring Ashley McBryde and Drew Parker on February 7th.
