Country Stars Support ‘We Won’t Stop’ Campaign for St. Jude

St. Jude, located in Memphis, Tennessee is a research hospital for children battling cancer and other deadly diseases. Perhaps the most special part about the organization is, thanks to very generous donors, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food. Families receive the best care in the country, at no cost, making the worst and darkest days of their lives a little bit brighter – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

Not only is St. Jude currently taking care of patients within its own doors but its research facility and labs are open 24/7 and freely share their findings with hospitals and doctors across the country. They are working towards a world where no family ever has to hear the words “you have cancer”.

We Won't Stop Reba

Launched more than 30 years ago, Randy Owen from the band Alabama stood up during Country Radio Seminar in Nashville and asked his friends, colleagues, and radio partners to join together to help St. Jude and the children they serve, and so, “Country Cares for St. Jude Kids” was born. The program unites more than 200 radio stations and dozens of country music artists annually to raise awareness and support for St. Jude kids.

Tim McGraw We Won't Stop

In addition, Owen, who has been an example of compassion and support since the beginning, kick-started the beloved tradition of giving the “Angels Among Us” award to others who have shown his spirit and exceptional dedication to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

St. Jude We Won't Stop Tee

This year, following the St. Jude “This Shirt Saves Lives” campaign, the organization introduces the “We Won’t Stop” tee. For a monthly donation of just $19, you can get the exclusive tee and help support this incredible program. It costs over a million dollars daily to operate St. Jude each and every day. Donations are what keeps them able to help children suffering. To donate and get your own “We Won’t Stop” t-shirt head to www.stjude.org.

“My Gift: A Christmas Special from Carrie Underwood” – The Full Recap

The holidays are officially here. “My Gift: A Christmas Special from Carrie Underwood” premiered today on HBO Max and it was more than worth the wait. For fans who anxiously counted down the days to the release of My Gift back in September, Underwood’s first ever Christmas album, this full length streaming concert provides a new way to experience the music and the joy of the season.

My Gift Carrie Underwood

Accompanied by a full orchestra and choir, a festive wardrobe, and a holiday set straight out of a dream, the singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, author, and mom of two performed every song from the album including Christmas classics and original material, plus previous hit singles, ‘Jesus Take the Wheel’ and ‘Something in the Water’. John Legend also joined her for a gorgeous duet of their song “Hallelujah”, which has already climbed to number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In a full-circle moment for OG fans, American Idol conductor Ricky Minor led the orchestra.

Underwood was flawless with her vocals, but it was her eldest son Isaiah who stole the show during the 45-minute program. After commenting on how special it was to record a duet with her five-year-old for the album, viewers got a behind the scenes glimpse into the two recording together over the summer. Isaiah can be seen in the studio and singing his little heart out while his proud mama cheers him on. Underwood’s mother Carole also made an appearance in a packaged segment, sharing pictures, video clips, and stories about Carrie’s love of Christmas growing up and performing locally in Oklahoma.

My Gift the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country, Christian, and Holiday charts. The project, which was arranged and produced by Greg Wells was Underwood’s eighth straight album to debut in the top spot.

The event was directed by Sandra Restrepo and produced by Gary Goetzman and Tom Hanks for Playtone. “My Gift: a Christmas Special from Carrie Underwood” is available now on HBO Max.

The 88th Annual Rockefeller Tree Lighting – Full Recap

Last night, the 88th annual Rockefeller Tree Lighting took place and aired on NBC. Artists of all genres including, Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, Tori Kelly, Jimmy Fallon, Leslie Odom Jr., Megan Trainor, Pentatonix, Goo Goo Dolls, Earth, Wind & Fire, the Radio City Rockettes and several entertainers from Broadway’s “Ain’t Too Proud” performed. Dolly Parton, Brett Eldredge and Dan + Shay represented country music. Keep reading below for a more in-depth review.

Brett Eldredge Rockerfeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting

Normally, this event would bring thousands of people from all over the world and pack the streets of New York City. However, this is no normal year. Instead, we got to watch the tree lighting from the comfort and safety of our own homes. NBC’s Craig Melvin, Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, and Al Roker hosted this magical night.

Kelly Clarkson kicked off the special with a performance of her original song, “Underneath the Tree” from Los Angeles. Right after, Dolly Parton sang a duet with Tonight Show Host, Jimmy Fallon for their rendition of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” This pre-recorded skit took place in Parton’s Nashville room, while she sang with Fallon via video chat. Throughout the song, Fallon was slowly putting on his Santa suit, and at the end, he jumped into his chimney on set and dropped down into the room Parton was singing in. Later in the show, Parton gave a powerful performance of “Mary, Did You Know?” Both these songs (including the Fallon feature) are on her latest album A Holly Dolly Christmas.

Brett Eldredge was the next performer. No country artist has quite embodied the holiday season like Eldredge has over the past few years. It seems he releases a new holiday track every year, and in 2016 he put out a full-length album titled Glow, which was followed by a deluxe version in 2018. The past two years, he has gone on holiday tours, stopping at Beacon Theater both years. Before his performance of “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas,” he delivered a Christmas wreath made from actual branches from the tree in Rockefeller Center to medical professionals at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Eldredge came on again later in the show, delivering an emotional performance of “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” in front of the frontline health workers.

Dan + Shay took the stage in front of the Prometheus statue twice last night, performing both their new Christmas songs, the upbeat “Take Me Home For Christmas” and the slower “Christmas Isn’t Christmas.” As usual, Shay Mooney’s dominant lead vocals were on full display.

Due to her recent engagement to country superstar, Blake Shelton, we have to give a holla to Gwen Stefani (see what we did there?). She performed two original songs from her new holiday album, You Make It Feel Like Christmas, “Here This Christmas” and the title track. Although he did not sing with her last night, Shelton features on the title track.

The final performance of the night was a pre-recorded duet of Brett Eldredge and Kelly Clarkson singing their new, original holiday song “Under the Mistletoe.” Finally, after a short countdown from the hosts, the giant tree was lit, officially beginning the 2020 Christmas season.

Granger Smith ‘Country Things Vol. 2’ – Album Review

Granger Smith’s highly anticipated second volume of his tenth studio album is here. Country Things Vol. 2 shows Smith’s appreciation for the life lessons he learned being raised in the country.

Granger Smith Country Things Vol. 2

Country Things Vol. 2 shows Smith’s appreciation for the life lessons he learned growing up in the country and a tribute to the people who made him the man he is today. No matter where you’re from, these new songs will give you an appreciation for how you were raised.

The eight-track album is filled with valuable messages and life lessons, starting out with “Man Made”. Written by Swag Spotlight alum Brett Sheroky and Ian Christian, “Man Made” pays tribute to the importance of women, especially mothers. It raises the question where would men be without their moms? The answer? Absolutely nowhere. “If a man made anything it’s cause / A woman made that man, yes she did.”

Lessons come from “That’s What Love Looks Like” and “Where I Get It From”. Teaching you not only that love is everywhere you look, but to also appreciate the traits your family gave you.

Being a parent may be one of the hardest jobs out there, but Smith reminds us it can be the greatest reward with “Buy a Boy a Baseball”. Written by Brad Rempel, Jon Nite, and Justin Ebach, this song is a reminder that spending quality time with your kids and teaching them how to play sports, how to get their hands dirty, how to pray, the value of a dollar, etc. are the most valuable lessons you can teach them.

This wouldn’t be a Granger Smith album without the appearance of his alter ego, Earl Dibbles Jr. He is featured on “Workaholic” and “Diesel” portraying his fun, beer loving self.

Country Things Vol. 1 came out in September and with the two albums combined into one, what a story Smith shares. The greatest lesson of all that’s learned is to appreciate the things that money can’t buy especially quality time with the people who matter the most.

Fans can join our Weekly Round-Up e-newsletter here, for the latest in country music and more news about future Granger Smith releases.

To keep up with Granger Smith follow him on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

Country Things, Vol. Two  is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music here on our ‘New Country Music’ playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.

Original Christmas Country Songs

Now that Thanksgiving is over, make sure you’re heading into December with the best new Christmas songs in country music. Take a look at the list below for some of our favorite original Christmas songs this season that are sure to put you in the holiday spirit!

Jingle Bell Drunk – RaeLynn

Written by: Corey Crowder, Ernest Keith Smith, and Rocky Block

In this upbeat tune, RaeLynn sings about what we’re all thinking when it comes to Christmas with the family after this year. She doesn’t care who is joining her or not, all she knows is she’s getting “Jingle Bell Drunk” this Christmas.

She released this song along with her take on “Silent Night”, on Raelynn: Merry Christmas.

“I’m getting jingle bell drunk this Christmas / I don’t give a jingle bell what, who isn’t / Listen, I’ve been naughty, I’ve been nice / Made my list and checked it twice”

Lit this Year – Florida Georgia Line

Written by: Tyler Hubbard, Brian Kelley, Corey Crowder

In a perfect combination of a traditional and a modern Christmas with the family, the boys from Florida Georgia Line make it known that that Christmas tree ain’t the only thing getting lit this year, in the duo’s first holiday song. With a feel-good tune and a hint at their very own Old Camp Whiskey, they let us know how we can get in on the fun too.

“That Christmas tree ain’t the only thing getting lit this year / There’s Old Camp in the eggnog and that fridge is full of cheers / Got some good ole Christmas spirit in this cup right here”

Neon Christmas – Mitchell Tenpenny

Written by: Lindsay Rimes, Matt Rogers, Mitchell Tenpenny

Mitchell Tenpenny makes the best of a snow-delayed Christmas in “Neon Christmas”. They may not get to go home together, but they’ll make the best of their Christmas together at whatever bar they can find in town.

This is the title track of a seven-song EP including four classic songs and two more originals: “Snow Angels” and “Naughty List”.

“Oh, let’s have a neon Christmas, baby don’t you know / Yeah, as long as we’re together it don’t matter where we go / If a cold beer, corner booth, or dive bar stool’s on your wish list / We can have a neon Christmas”

Take Me Home for Christmas – Dan + Shay

Written by: Andy Albert, Dan Smyers, Jordan Reynolds, Jordan Schmidt, Mitchell Tenpenny, Shay Mooney

Dan + Shay hit all the points of wanting to spend the holidays with your special someone in their hometown. From learning their favorite spots in town and meeting family and friends to hearing stories from high school and joining their holiday traditions.

Dan + Shay released a music video to “Take Me Home for Christmas” starring the singers themselves, their wives, children, and dogs. At the end of the video, they hint towards another song release, which was another original Christmas song from the duo, “Christmas isn’t Christmas”, which takes on a sadder side of Christmas when you’re missing the person you used to spend it with.

“Baby, won’t you take me home for Christmas? / Show me round your town / Take me where you used to watch the snow come down / All of your traditions / I wanna know ‘em all / You’ll check every box off of my list / If you take me home for Christmas”

Christmas on the Square – Dolly Parton

Written by: Dolly Parton

It’s difficult to pick a favorite off the star-studded album, A Holly Dolly Christmas, which includes songs with Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus, Michael Bublé, Willie Nelson, Randy Parton, and even Jimmy Fallon.

However, “Christmas on the Square”, a solo-write, perfectly captures the spirit of the album, the Christmas season, and Dolly’s Jolly attitude. It’ll bring you right to the center of your town during Christmas time, complete with everything that you’d need to get in the Christmas spirit from the decorations and desserts to Christmas carols and snowball fights.

“Christmas on the square / Together as each year / We joyfully meet here / To celebrate family and friends / And we all stick together / No matter whatever / It’s a wonderful town we live in / Christmas on the square”

Christmas Through Your Eyes – Lady A

Written by: Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood, Hillary Scott

Some of the best parts of Christmas time is reminiscing and recalling the traditions and excitement that came with the holiday when you were a kid. The trio sing about seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child, exactly the way Christmas should be seen.

This song is a part of Lady A’s Deluxe Album, On This Winter’s Night, which includes 16 songs, thirteen classics, and three originals

“Yeah, it’s been a while / The joy and wonder of your smile / Such a precious child / Suddenly, I’m driftin’ back in time / Seein’ Christmas through your eyes”

Christmas on the Radio – Runaway June

Written by: Sam Hollander and Martin Johnson

This song is essentially about what we’re trying to do here with this group of songs. In a lyrical mash-up of classic Christmas songs, this original is all about finally making it to that time of year where we can hear Christmas songs on the radio once again.

“Christmas on the Radio” is one of two original songs on Runaway June’s When I Think About Christmas EP, along with three classics.

“I wanna hear Christmas on the radio / Jingle Bells and Mistletoe / A soundtrack of a cold December night / it only happens once a year / Merry music to my ears / Take my hand, let’s dance under the light / I wanna hear Christmas on the radio tonight”

We Need Christmas – Maddie & Tae

Written by: AJ Pruis, Maddie Font, Matthew West, Taylor Kerr

Beautifully written, this song speaks to how much we all need Christmas in these tough times. Beyond the parts of Christmas that would heighten spirits every year like your favorite movies and songs or seeing friends and family, it’s the hope that Christmas can be the healer of an especially difficult and trying year.

This is the title track of their EP, which includes four classic Christmas songs as well as another original, “Merry Married Christmas”, a song about the exciting time as newlyweds and all the firsts that come with spending that first Christmas together.

“That’s what we need right now / This world could use a little healing / Our hearts could surely use something to believe in / We Need Christmas now more than ever / Bring us together / We need Christmas, come on December / Help us remember / The joy, the peace, and the hope that love can bring / Oh, we need Christmas”

Christmas Always Finds Me – Ingrid Andress

Written by: Derrick Southerland, Ingrid Andress, Sam Ellis

Taking us to her softer side and reminding us of how the holidays can be emotional and not always the most exciting of times, Ingrid Andress once again delivers with incredible lyrics and vocals. This song tells us that even when you’re in doubt, Christmas always has a way of coming around no matter where you’re at in life, and is able to bring you back to that happy place, just like when you were a kid.

“When Silver Bells and Silent Night / And mistletoe’s nowhere in sight / With no chance of snow falling down / Another year older / Little harder to believe / But somehow Christmas always finds me”

Let There Be Peace – Carrie Underwood

Written by: Brett James, Carrie Underwood, David Garcia

In this gospel-style song where Carrie Underwood shows off her incredible vocals and range, she also reminds us of the bigger picture of the holidays that we often forget while being consumed with mainstream traditions.

The song is a part of an eleven-track album, My Gift, which features another original song, “Hallelujah”, which Underwood duets with John Legend.

“Let there be peace / Peace to every nation / Let there be hope / For all the world to see / Let there be love and joy to all the children / Let there be peace on Earth for you and me”

Chase Rice Featuring Florida Georgia Line Drop “Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen.”

Chase Rice released his new single, “Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen.” featuring Florida Georgia Line on all platforms yesterday (November 30th). Take a look below as we dive deeper into the track.

FGL Chase Rice Drinkin Beer Talkin God Amen

Chase Rice and Florida Georgia Line may be known for their feel-good, tailgate anthems, but they have always touched on religion and God in their music. Their new song, “Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen.” combines both elements. Written by Rice, Hunter Phelps, Cale Dodds and Florida Georgia Line producer, Corey Crowder, this song reminds us that even in unprecedented times like these, there is still a lot to be thankful for.

Sittin’ here. Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen / Killin’ time. Livin’ Life with some down-home friends / When the world’s gone crazy, man it all makes sense / Sittin’ here. Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen.

The track combines all the sounds of a traditional country song with a more modern production. Rice stated that although 2020 brought a lot of hardships, it has made us realize what it most important to us–family, friends and faith.

“It’s a special song in that way because it really is a celebration of what 2020 became for us and a lot of other people — slowing down to enjoy these moments with our loved ones and having deeper, more meaningful conversations with each other,” Rice said in a recent press release.

Chase Rice Florida Georgia Line

Rice helped Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard co-write one of the biggest country songs of all-time, “Cruise” in 2012. Aside from writing the Diamond-certified hit, Rice, Kelley and Hubbard roomed together when they first moved to Nashville. The three have wanted to get back in the studio together for a long time.

“We are so excited to be on this jam with our boy Chase,” Hubbard exclaimed. “We’ve dreamed of being on the radio together ever since we were roommates 10 years ago. This song is the perfect one for us, as we often find ourselves drinking beer and talking God when we get together. We hope this brings lots of good times and great conversations.”

Florida Georgia Line has been rapidly putting out new music in the past few months, including their newest single to radio “Long Live.” For Rice, “Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen.” is his first release since The Album: Part II.

CMA Country Christmas – The Complete Recap

2020 ACM Entertainer of the Year, Thomas Rhett and his wife, Lauren Akins hosted CMA Country Christmas this year, which premiered last night on ABC. Keep reading below to see which other artists made an appearance during the holiday special.

CMA Country Christmas Recap

After playful banter between Rhett and his wife, Lady A let themselves in to perform a rendition of “Wonderful Christmastime.” Kelsea Ballerini followed with a performance of “Santa Baby.” She confessed her favorite holiday tradition is what she and her family call “Jammy Day,” where one of her relatives picks out embarrassing sets of matching pajamas for the family that has to be worn the entire day, regardless of where they are going.

After a performance of “It Wasn’t His Child” by Tim McGraw, Florida Georgia Line made their way to set to sing their fun, new holiday song, “Lit This Year.” Brian Kelley said he and his family hit the Florida beaches every Christmas and Hubbard takes his family to Idaho, where his wife, Hayley is from.

Gabby Barrett sang her version of “The First Noel,” which she just released digitally in October. After, Darius Rucker performed “What Child is This?” with dancer and violinist, Lindsey Sterling. Then, the show’s host performed his original holiday song, “Christmas in the Country.”

Little Big Town sang “Christmas Time is Here” before Dan + Shay performed their brand new original song, “Christmas Isn’t Christmas,” just released on November 20th. Lady A took the stage again to perform the final song of the night, the Beach Boys classic, “Little Saint Nick.” It was a wonderful night to relax and enjoy CMA Country Christmas with some of our favorite artists.

Who Is Cole Bradley? The Story Behind His Journey to Country Music

Who Is Cole Bradley? Talented new country artist from Canada, who now lives in Nashville with songs like “Love Made Me” and “Jean Jacket.”

Cole Bradley

Cole Bradley – Photo Credit Nick Patterson

Nashville is nicknamed “Music City” for a reason. It is full of talented young artists, who have a passion for the music industry and all that comes with it. Our latest Swag Spotlight artist, Cole Bradley fits the bill. He is talented, creative, and hungry for success, but most importantly he has an undeniable connection to country music.

Growing up in Calgary, Canada, Bradley always gravitated towards the creatives. He recalls singing as early as five years old and credits his family for introducing him to country music. “My first kind of memory is sitting in the backseat of my mom’s Toyota singing along to Garth Brooks’ ‘Greatest Hits’ record,” declared Bradley, “I would say that probably Garth Brooks was one of my biggest influences from day one.” Besides Brooks, the singer-songwriter grew up on country music stars like Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney.

With the support of his family always behind him, Bradley started releasing songs to iTunes in high-school and writing music even earlier than that; however, a college education was always important to him and his parents. During his first year in college, the singer balanced trips to Nashville for writes and demos with his education in Canada. It was during one of his trips to Music City, four years ago, that Bradley learned he could combine his passion for music with his desire for higher education.

“I toured the Belmont campus,” the singer began, “My parents were super supportive of me and were like if you want to transfer to Belmont [University] and be in Nashville to pursue your school and music at the same time, you’re more than welcome to.” Bradley made the big move a few weeks before his 19th birthday and started to play shows in Nashville the same year.

One year into his move, the entertainer got the honor of playing the coveted Bluebird Cafe for the first time in his young career. “It’s just iconic. The best place to play so far in my career,” shared Bradley, as he recounted all of his heroes who have also played at the venue. Presently, he has been invited back to play at the Bluebird several times, since his debut.

Since then, Bradley has continued to progress in his career. He graduated from Belmont University in July and released two singles this year, including “Love Made Me” and “Jean Jacket.” The unprecedented times that we are living in catapulted the singer to share more of his craft with the world. “I had all these songs recorded, but after the pandemic hit, I was like, life’s so short, and you never know what’s going to happen,” he stated, “I have to put out more music.”

Both songs are impactful, sentimental, and high-energy; despite, having different stories and inspirations. “My goal in music is just to connect my stories, my songs, and my feelings to as many people as possible,” Bradley exclaimed. “Love Made Me” captures the story of new love. “It was really a universal theme. They’re at the honeymoon stage of a relationship and falling head over heels for somebody.”

On the other hand, “Jean Jacket” represents all those feelings that we all go through when dealing with heartache. According to Bradley, “The idea was we all go through heartbreak and tough breakups in our lives, but I think the most important thing that can happen is to walk away with your pride,” adding, “Jean Jacket symbolizes a lot more and I thought it was a cool way to say something.”

Ultimately, it’s clear that Bradley is going to keep writing and recording music that is authentic to him and his story. We can expect more unique and enticing music from the singer-songwriter in early 2021, and maybe even an EP. Until then, make sure you are streaming both of his incredible tunes!

HARDY’s “One Beer” Earns Him His First Career #1 Single as an Artist

HARDY’s “One Beer” featuring Devin Dawson and Lauren Alaina has hit the top spot on the charts this week, earning him his first number-one single as an artist.

One of our favorite songwriters and artists in country music, HARDY, just scored his first number one as a recording artist with “One Beer”. We fell in love with the song long before it was chosen as a single and are so excited to see it land in the top spot! Check out our Swag Session below, where we talk to HARDY about all of the incredible touches that the song has to offer. With several number ones as a songwriter under his belt, the talented artist can officially celebrate another major feat with “One Beer”!

The song, “One Beer” features fellow country musicians, Devin Dawson and Lauren Alaina on the track. The story-telling, yet catchy tune, depicts a situation where a young couple finds their lives changing with a surprise pregnancy. Despite the specific nature of the song, “One Beer” is captivating and electrifying. New York fans definitely agreed as they sang along to every word of the song back in 2019, when the singer performed an acoustic version of the track during his NYC show, shortly after its original release.

It was in that breathtaking moment that we knew the song was something special. A little over a year to the date, we all get to celebrate “One Beer” at the top of the charts. We honestly cannot champion HARDY enough! He truly has got what it takes to become a bonafide superstar! His debut album, A ROCK is a masterpiece that leaves fans wanting more and more. Check out our Up Close & Virtual Interview below, where we chat with HARDY about the record. Congrats to HARDY, Devin, Lauren, and their teams on this incredible accomplishment!
