Written by Baldridge alongside Harper Grace and Kyle Schlienger, the track is a homage to woman to know their worth and reminder to the men that love them to be more than good enough and deserving. Like all of Baldridge’s music to date, the song has a greater meaning that anyone can relate to.

According to the singer, “Deserve Her” was always an important song. “When I wrote this song, I knew it would be such a great message for boys and girls to hear,” shared Baldridge in a recent press release. “It talks about knowing a woman’s worth and that you can’t just ‘want her,’ but you gotta ‘deserve her.’ The second verse might be one of my favorite verses I’ve ever written. The words are so powerful, and it’s a message I look forward to sharing with my fans.”

“You can tell her that she’s pretty // But anybody can say that // You can buy her valentine’s flowers // But what about every day after that // You can take her high heeled dancing // But what about socks on the kitchen floor? // You can tell her that you love her // Oh, but there’s gotta be more // You gotta hold her when she’s broken // Be the rock when she slides // She’s gotta know she’s more than a moment // She’s gotta know you’re on her side // And if you talk about forever // There better be truth behind the words // Oh boy you can’t just want her // If you really want this to work // You gotta deserve her”

Make sure to listen to “Deserve Her” and send it to anyone who needs to hear it!

Who Is Zandi Holup? The Story Behind Her Journey to Country Music

Who is Zandi Holup? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about her journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

who-is-zandi-holup

Zandi Holup / Photo credit: Seth Hayes

Quick Facts:

Full Name – Zandi Holup
Birthdate – April 11th
Hometown – Fort Washington, Pennsylvania
Current City – Nashville, TN
Musical Influences – Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Dolly Parton
Label – Big Loud Records
Current Project – Wildflower (as of date of article: 8/18/2025)

The Beginning:

Today’s spotlight artist is an artist in every sense of the word. Zandi Holup believes in unapologetically sharing stories through music, while remaining true to her unique sound and style as a singer-songwriter. We chatted with Holup about her upbringing, her newest project, and everything in between.

“My family and I moved to Northern New Jersey when I was little girl, and I grew up there. Then I went to high-school in New York City.” ” began Holup. “I got into music when I was little because my parents put me in plays. Because I was a little bit shy and timid, and I helped me come out of my shell, so they put me in singing lesson. I grew up around music my whole life, my dad, my aunts, and even my grandmothers write songs and sing, and play guitar, so I’ve always been around that type of stuff.”

From an early age, music was a constant in her life. Holup drew inspiration from a variety of artists, finding herself in the music she fell in love with. “ I was really influenced by folk music at a young age, and also I absolutely fell in love with country music. […] I always heard different country music growing up. Dolly [Parton] took my heart, and that’s what got me into story-telling, listening to those artists and wanting to write stories like them,” she shared.

Holup also fell in love with artists like Lorreta Lynn and Joan Baez, and Bob Dylan. “A lot of Dolly Parton’s earlier work that’s a little darker really influenced me. Also Loretta Lynn, I love her as a story-teller and a truth-teller. I love Bob Dylan and Joan Baez as well and Joni Michell, she’s one of my favorite poets. I think different record also inspire different things.” Much like her favorite artists, Holup found herself using music and songwriting as a therapeutic outlet.

The Turning Point:

For Holup, music was always her calling, and the arts was her passion. “I’m definitely more of a creative-brained person than an anything else  brained person,” she shared, adding, “I’ve always had a big case of wanderlust. If there’s a dream, I’m going to chase it. I’ve never been the kind of person to not want to make my dream into a reality, I’ve always just been ready to go.”

At just eighteen years old, the singer left New York and headed to California to chase her dreams. Eventually, she found Nashville and was inspired to chase her dreams in a new city. “I basically just had a suitcase, and I went to Nashville. After about a week of some things I had set myself up to do, I decided to move here. I found myself a little apartment, and I got a job, and I just started waitressing and hosting, and doing songwriting rounds and open mics. I just was doing anything I could to keep hustling and hustling, and making a name for myself.”

Shew as told “no” many times, but still kept with it, using social media to pioneer her music along the way. During the pandemic, Holup would spend several hours a day creating content and growing a massive fanbase who fell in love with her original music. Her efforts caught the attention of Big Loud Records, and eventually, Holup signed her record deal, finding a team that truly supported her unique talent and vision.

“I  had to find myself in all of it, and I think I finally got there, and is tarted posting my music on the internet because a lot of people in Nashville didn’t really notice me or care to notice me. I was told a lot that my music was too dark or too depressing or that people wouldn’t want to hear it on the radio. But I just knew that I didn’t want to change, and not be true to myself and what I wanted to talk about and what I wanted to say,” she shared, “I found people who enjoyed my art when I went on social media, and it was a game-changer for me.”

Today:

Flash forward to day, Holup finally released her major-label debut album, Wildflower. The record features eleven beautifully-crafted songs that speak to the singer-songwriter’s creative spirit and her artistic voice. “There’s elements of country in my music, there’s elements of folks, there’s elements of a whole bunch of different genres that I’ve just kind of put together. I would say it’s story-teller music,” shared Holup.

Wildflower is comprised of songs that Holup has written over the years, including songs that fans have fallen in love with on the singer’s social media. “These eleven songs were really chosen by the people that listen to my music. I had been posting music on social media, and I pretty much put all of the songs that people were really enthusiastic about, that they related to, and that the loved, that they wanted me to record, but that is how this record was chosen,” shared Holup, adding, “There were just a couple of songs that I had put on this record that were chosen by me or someone I worked with, but most of the songs were chosen by the people that support me and listen to my music.”

While each and every song is special in their own right, one of Holup’s personal favorites is, “Mary Jane,” inspired by a true story about one of her friends. “One of my favorite songs that I’ve ever written as an artist is “Mary Jane,” which is on my record,” began Holup. “I love metaphorical storytelling. It’s one of those things that I admire the most in a lot of my heroes, so I was out to write a metaphorically song that could connect to people. “Mary Jane” is a song I wrote about a friend of mine who suffered from drug addiction to heroin, on and off for about fifteen years, and their in recovery now, which is a very big accomplishment, and I wanted to write a song to tell their story because I thought their was a lot of pain and beauty that I wanted to show people. It was a story of redemption and triumph, so I wrote this song to paint his story through my eyes.”

In her blossoming career, it’s clear that the songstress plans to remain as authentic as possible. Her desire to share music is from the depths of her soul and her lyrics are the embodiment of that. While we are not quite sure what is in store for the singer for the rest of the year, Holup put it perfectly. “This is just the beginning.”

5 Things to Expect from Russell Dickerson’s Album ‘Famous Back Home’

We chatted with country singer-songwriter, Russell Dickerson about his new album, Famous Back Home, out Friday, August 22nd. Here are five things to expect from the upcoming project.

  1. Dickerson methodically picked out where he wanted each song to land in the track list. He wants Famous Back Home to draw fans and listeners in, while keeping with the charm of RD’s catalog.

“This is the album I’ve spent the most on sequencing the songs. […] I always sequenced them before like a live concert, but it’s not that. For me, it’s more of a keep the energy up front was a different way I looked at […] I feel like that’s more like drawing in rather than taking one or two songs to come down. I hope people put this record in and their heart rate kicks up, and then also hear “Bones” and reinvigorate love and joy and the joys of the everyday family life that can seem so monotonous and overbearing, but hearing “Famous Back Home” is what it’s all about.”

  1. “Worth Your Wild,” one of Dickerson’s sons’ favorite songs off the project was inspired by RD’s wide array of influences like the 1975 and Blink 182.

“It’s heavy guitars, the super chorus-y stuff, that’s what I think is awesome, and then mixing that in with the country sauce and the Friday night, we’re not reinventing the wheel here with this song, but sonically, we pushed boundaries. I haven’t heard country songs that sound like that.”

  1. Although Dickerson is a prolific writer, there are two outside cuts on this album including, “Sippin On Top of the World” and “Never Leave.”

“”Sippin’ On Top of the World” was the first one I got in this batch. It could have gone on my third album, but I think just living with it. It’s the guitars and goo vibes, and then it also ties in the lovey-dovey piece, and has a brilliant hook. I didn’t even want to try to beat the song, so that’s when it makes the cut pile. [“Never Leave”] It’s just one that lines up with my story with me and my wife. It came back to an idea that I did in real life, and I felt like I couldn’t’ write a better song describing that.”

  1. Dickerson is at a place in his life and career, where he is trusting his own instincts and forging his own path in music, rather than chasing number one hits and the accolades that come with entertainment. Famous Back Home embodies that.

“The back half of the record is the more sentimental songs, so really taking the time to look at the flow. That’ why I feel like I do have a wide range of genre influences , and that’s what I didn’t really hold back on, on this album. Yeah, I’m not the most country dude, and that’s okay. I don’t have to have an album that sounds like xyz. That’’s the full circle moment that I felt I came back to.”

  1. While each and every song could be a hit or a special song to someone, the real message behind Famous Back Home rings true to Dickerson, and the project is perfectly named that for a multitde of reasons.

“Without reverting to the “I just want to be famous back home” PR answer, which is every true, that’ is my priority and in some ways it’s easier to prioritize that now that I’m at a point where “no” is an acceptable answer for once. […] In a career mode, I think success is enjoyment. Am I enjoying it or am I striving too hard? […] I really think prior to “Happen With Me,” I think I was struggling with that. It’s just been a fun place to push through those emotions and keep fighting and knowing that something is going to happen. It’ just cool to be in a place where I can just chill and enjoy this.”

Dylan Marlowe Drops New Song “Coming Home Tomorrow”

Dylan Marlowe shares brand new song, “Coming Home Tomorrow,” out now, August 15th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the new track below.

Dylan Marlowe is emerging as one of country music’s biggest rising stars. With each and every release he proves his staying power. Continuing to fuse his rock and pop-punk influences with his notable country lyrics, Marlowe’s new song, “Coming Home Tomorrow” is a special one.

“I wrote “Coming Home Tomorrow” with Johnny Clawson and Joe Fox in the middle of a crazy but really fun touring season,” shared Marlowe in a recent press release. “I think most artists will relate to the feeling of being so grateful that we get to do this for a living but missing home when you’re out on the road, I think this song captures that experience.” Whether your artist out on the road or just someone out in the world missing someone you are far away from, “Coming Home Tomorrow” will resonate. The song is well thought out, honest, and fun to listen to.

“I’ve been counting down the miles // And these white lines on the highway // Heaven knows it’s been a while // Since I’ve seen a smile on your face // And I know that it’s been tough // You wake up and I’ve been gone // But baby, keep on hanging on // ‘Cause it won’t be long // I know this life out on the road // Has been taking its toll // But baby, I’m coming home tomorrow // Just one more night in our bed alone // Say goodbye to my ghost // ‘Cause baby, I’m coming home tomorrow”

Marlowe continues to grow his catalog with each and every release. “Coming Home Tomorrow” is a great addition.

Elizabeth Nichols Stuns on Brand New Song “Daughter”

Elizabeth Nichols shares new song, “Daughter,” out now, August 15th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

As we shared in our recent interview with Elizabeth Nichols, the singer-songwriter is the real day. With just a year in Nashville under her belt, she is already making major waves in town and finding millions of fans flocking to her music. While we love her upbeat, cheeky songs, something about her newest release is a true standout! Nichols’ new song, “Daughter” is out now.

A quiet yet heart-punching slow song, “Daughter” is an incredibly vulnerable song with edge. While it may appear at first that Nichols is just singing a sad song about getting her heart broken, the karmic messaging throughout is truly outrageous in the best possible way. “Daughter” is one of those songs that will truly stop you in your tracks and make you listen two, three, more times. Lyrics aside, Nichols vocals are on full display on the raw, yet spicy new track.

“My friend pulled up a photo of you down on one knee // Emerald cut for real true love at sunset on the beach // I’m glad you finally found the one // Cause it sure wasn’t me  // and I can’t help but smile when I think // That sometime soon, post honeymoon, she’ll be 15 weeks // Swear, I’m healed, but if karmas real, that cake will cut pink // and you’ll have a daughter // She’ll meet a man who looks and acts just like her father // Won’t be long until she’s falling in them big brown eyes // She’ll stay the night // and won’t think twice to give him everything // then he’ll do her like he daddy did to me”

Quite possibly her best song to date, “Daughter” is a must listen to, and if you haven’t listened to us yet, it’s time to pay attention and look-out for Nichols!

Jordan Davis: ‘Learn The Hard Way’ – Album Review

Jordan Davis’ new album, Learn The Hard Way is out now, August 15th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the new album below.

With his third studio album, Learn the Hard Way, Jordan Davis leans fully into the balance of polished country-pop and swampy, soulful roots that has made him one of Nashville’s most consistent hitmakers. The MCA Nashville record not only delivers the infectious hooks fans have come to expect but also showcases a deeper, more personal side of Davis’s artistry.

On the follow up to 2023’s Bluebird Days, Davis flawlessly blends Bayou grit with soulful introspection, exploring new sonic territory without straying from familiar themes. The Louisiana native wrote or co-wrote 13 of the album’s 17 new tracks, enlisting a slew of familiar names, including his brother Jacob, Ashley Gorley, Steve Moakler, Josh Kerr, Josh and Matt Jenkins, and many more.

The album kicks off with the rollicking “Her Way or the Highway,” a catchy musical ultimatum in which Davis rattles off a laundry list of a woman’s grievances, ultimately landing on the blunt “change or it’s goodbye.” From there, Davis wastes no time diving into one of the album’s standouts, “Bar None,” a toe-tapping, whiskey-drenched heartbreak anthem that he says “came alive in the studio.”

“Bar, none// Now I’m gettin’ goner than your long gone boots// Nothin’ I’m workin’ on works on you// I’ve been breakin’ every bottle open// Doin’ what a banged up broken heart doe//s I’m gonna need three or four more// Baby, if movin’ on had a scoreboard// It’d say, “You and your memory, one // Me and this bar, none // Me and this bar, me and this bar, none”

Heartbreak runs through much of the album. “Ain’t Enough Road” is a lush, single-worthy midtempo about realizing you cannot outrun memories. “Only All the Time” and “Turn This Truck Around” are equally steeped in post-breakup ache.

Emotions continue to run high on the stunning ballad, “Mess with Missing You,” a long-awaited duet with Carly Pearce. Years in the making, Davis revealed that the final version exceeded his expectations. It finds the pair trading tender verses over lines like “You’re like whiskey, I can’t even have one sip… it’s just too risky, if I start then I can’t quit, and all that moving on I did, goes out the door, I don’t mess with missing you no more.”

“Jesus Wouldn’t Do” is a standout for its lyrical introspection, as Davis grapples with grace and the imperfections of being human. Similarly, “Keeping the World Away” reflects on the need to unplug and cherish life’s simple joys, a sentiment born from Davis’s own struggles to balance a growing career with being a father of four.

Both “Good Gone Bad” and “Louisiana Stick” pay homage to Davis’s Louisiana roots, with the former a gritty, swamp-soaked romp that channels shades of Marc Broussard with smoldering vocals and searing guitar work. Likewise “Louisiana Stick” pairs him with guitar virtuoso Marcus King), and the result is arguably the album’s most distinctive cut, uniting two Bayou brothers as they swap verses and trade fiery guitar riffs in a soulful, groove-laden jam.

“I wanted to show influences and not just talk about them,” reveals Davis when reflecting on the collaboration that he calls one of his favorite songs on the LP. “ Being from Louisiana, that kind of soulful, groovy stuff is just what I listen to.”

“Son of a Gun” is also a standout, inspired by a golf trip with his brother Jacob and centered around the simple idea of being a “son of a gun.” He’s introspective and poignant on the building ballad, a product of his raising. “Didn’t always have it made // but that’s what made me // Daddy was a hand-me-down hair-triggered silver tongue // my mama was a pistol // they made a son of a gun”

“In Case You Missed It” and “Know You Like That” both find him nostalgic and second-guessing an old flame, while the album’s title track offers a look at Davis at his most vulnerable.

“I’m ’bout to get a taste of my own damn medicine// Safe to say, I’m ’bout to get me a lesson in // Tables turning like tires on the Chert rock// And how them goodbye lights look fading off// Throwing red at the best there’s ever been// Hell, I guess there’s a first time for everything// I’ve never known the broke side of a heartbreak// But I’d say I’m ’bout to learn the hard way.”

Learn the Hard Way is truly Jordan Davis at his most confident and most honest, finding him even more self-assured in what he does best while also branching out into new sounds and styles. The LP perfectly marries radio-ready grooves with rootsy authenticity and clever storytelling, weaving together barroom singalongs, soul-drenched grooves, and personal reflections. Whether he’s turning up the Louisiana swagger, duetting with country’s finest, or quietly reflecting on family and faith, Davis proves he’s learned more than a few hard lessons, and he’s better for it.
