Who Is Brenna Bone? The Story Behind Her Journey to Country Music

Who is Brenna Bone? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about her journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

who-is-brenna-bone
The Beginning:

Today we get to highlight an East Coast born songstress, Brenna Bone. Growing up in Eaton, Pennsylvania, the singer-songwriter grew up a competitor. “I grew up competitively dancing and cheerleading, so I feel like I owe a lot of the performance side of me to those years of my life.”

Bone connected to music throughout her childhood, finding inspiration in pop stars like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. “I just knew from a very young age that I wanted to be on a stage.” In high school, the songstress discovered that she could carry a tune and fell in love with music. “Eventually, I taught myself how to record at home and I would release cover songs and I was just doing everything,” she shared.

Despite the fact that Bone knew she wanted to become a musician, her supportive family wanted her to go to college. “I started college and it was about half way through my freshman year of college, and I remember calling my mom and being like “hey I think I’m going to quit school. I want to play music full time.””

The singer-songwriter began gigging, playing shows three or four nights a week. “I really honestly made a name for myself back home,” shared Bone, adding later, “I owe a lot to my hometown, the support they’ve given me, the artist that they have helped me become. I owe a lot to where I come from.”

The Turning Point:

After making connections in the music industry and visiting Nashville once a month, Bone finally took the leap. Four years ago, she made the move to Nashville to pursue her dream career. “I just fell in love with country music and how it evolved over the years. I put my own rock influences in my own type of country music,” shared the singer about her signature sound.

Although she credits her parents for her taste in Rock music, like AC/DC and Bon Jovi, she discovered country music on her own. She credits artists like Martina McBride, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, and Miranda Lambert as some of her favorites in the country genre.

“I love the storytelling aspect of country music and I love to rock out,” she shared. “I write like a country artist and love the story-telling aspect of it and I put in my own little rock side to that.” Bone’s unique blend of country and rock music has garnered her both success and recognition in the genre; however, this is still just the beginning for the artist.

Today:

So far in her young career, the entertainer has released three singles and done some collaborative projects. Most recently, she released her killer song “Break This Habit.” “The song was the first Zoom write that I had over quarantine. We wrote it last June, so June of 2020,” shared Bone.

Drawing inspiration from personal experience, the singer-songwriter shared the writing process for the song. “I remember I was going through a break-up at the time, but it was one of those situations where it was just a bad relationship to even be in,” she began. “I remember talking to my friend over Zoom, and I was like I don’t even know what I’m going through right now, he feels like a bad habit that I keep going to.”

The more Bone and her co-writer discussed the idea, the more the song just flowed out naturally. “We wrote that song in an hour and a half,” declared the singer. Written by the entertainer with Matt Mulhare, the tune is a heartbreaking song about not wanting to quit a relationship. The tune is one that anyone can relate to.

According to Bone, she has another new single coming in early January and a collaborative project with fellow country songstresses coming before year end. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for the budding star!

Ryan Hurd & Maren Morris Hit #1 with “Chasing After You”

Ryan Hurd and Maren Morris’ beautiful, collaborative song “Chasing After You” hit the number one spot on the country music charts this week.

Today, we celebrate one of country music’s most iconic couples, Ryan Hurd and Maren Morris. Throughout the years, both Hurd and Morris have found their individual musical journeys and fan bases. Both have had success in their own right, but now the singer-songwriters get to celebrate together. Their first collaborate song, “Chasing After You” officially hit the number one spot at country radio.

The song marks the first chart-topper for Hurd as an artist and the fifth number one single for Morris. Written by Brinley Addington and Jerry Flowers, “Chasing After You” is a romantic song that perfectly suited Hurd and Morris’ stellar voices. It was just a matter of time before the song made its way up the charts.

“But I know, yeah I know it’s a matter of time // ‘Til you walk, ’til you walk back out of my life // Leave me standing here lonely, feeling like a fool, mm, mm // Every time, every time you say we’re done // You come back to the love you were running from // Don’t know why, don’t know why I let you, but I do // Guess I love chasing after you”

Congrats to the Hurd-Morris family and their teams on an incredible feat!

High Valley Shares Two Brand New Songs in Exclusive Interview

High Valley is back with two brand new songs, “Whatever It Takes” and “Never Not,” out now. Learn more about their new music below in our exclusive interview.

High Valley are one of those country acts that have firmly planted themselves in their staying power. The Canadian-group know exactly who they are. They continue to share music with their fanbase that shows their signature sound and their evolution. Today, High Valley drop two brand new songs, “Whatever It Takes” and “Never Not.”

According to lead singer, Brad Rempel, in our recent interview, these songs mark the beginning of a new album coming in the Spring of 2022 for the band. “With these first two, we wanted to kind of let fans hear “Never Not” so they knew that our feet weren’t stuck in concrete, and that we are always evolving and kind of show the future, but also let them hear “Whatever It Takes” to let them know that we’re not anywhere close to sick of those boot-stomping, bluegrass anthem thing.”

“Never Not” shows off a fresh, pop-country sound of the band. Lyrically, the song expresses love in a unique and enticing way. Rempel shares that the title of the song was inspired by a statement that a pro Hockey player said to him while at an event together. As if that story is not wild enough, the song was actually written via Zoom, after a crazy string of events found Rempel writing and demo-ing the song in a work-share space.

“I’m whispering on my phone, ‘hey guys, my phone died, but I got this idea for the second verse.’ So we literally finished writing that song and recorded all the audio to make sure we all had it down on our iPhones by me sitting in a community workspace,” he shares, laughing. He later added, “The second verse is one of the most real things ever. ‘It’s a crowded room, but I still feel all alone and I just had to hear your voice on the phone’ and that’s so true for my wife and my two boys.”

On the other hand, “Whatever It Takes” features High Valley’s signature bluegrass, anthemic sound. Penned by Rempel with collaborators, Jon Nite and Ben Stennis, the track begs for the stage and a live crowd. The song was written during a writer’s trip to Florida, after the trio decided to call it a wrap.

“It just felt so natural, when you’re not trying to write a song, when you’re not trying to be an artist, just doing what I do. It is very old school, Americana-bluegrass, hipster, organic, insert buzzword here. But that kind of acoustic driven stuff and thankfully my buddies know how to make it to a European soccer stadium, anthem kind of song.”

Rempel adds, “When we combine those two worlds that’s when High Valley finds its magic.” We tend to agree!
