For Mitchell Tenpenny, The Low Light Sessions EP, out today, April 15, marks a special release. Featuring eight new tracks, all co-written by the dynamic singer-songwriter, the collection includes songs he’s held on to for years. For listeners, the music will take you on a journey from where Tenpenny was when he wrote the opening track to where he is now.

“My fans are so good to me and react quickly each time I put out new music,” shared Tenpenny in a statement. “I’ve held onto these songs as I didn’t want them to get overshadowed in some of the other recent projects. I wanted to wait until I was in a good place with my life, and I feel I’m strong enough to share them now. I was a different person then and it feels good to look back and know I’ve come through that dark time.”

The project opens with the previously-released “Horseshoes and Hand Grenades,” a clever take on the old adage of being oh-so-close to something. Here, the Nashville native is so close to love, but not quite there. 

“I guess we were just as close as a first kiss // Closer to God when you’re down on your knees and praying // Yeah, close like a secret, you swore you would keep // But somehow you let it slip away // So close you can feel, it hurts when it’s real // ‘Cause the other don’t feel the same // Guess close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades”

Songs like “Dear Jesus” and “Mama Raised the Hell Out of Me” show Tenpenny contemplative and exploring his spiritual side, fighting not to “let the devil win the war.” On “Mama Raised the Hell Out of Me,” Tenpenny admits that he’s struggled with his own demons, but that it’s his mama to thank for the way he turned out. “There’s a lot of whiskey bottles and skeletons, I broke more hearts than the strings on my guitar,” He admits. “The devil only knows, the sinner I would be, but mama raised the hell out of me.”

For Tenpenny, much of the Low Light Sessions finds the introspective singer-songwriter grappling with failed and potential relationships. On “Don’t Make Me Choose,” he admits that he’s a walking contradiction, loving both life on the road and being home with his someone special. “We both got something the other one needs,” He concedes as he explores the woman that’s the yin to his yang, the saint to his sinner. He also worries that he’ll be forced to choose between love and his career, pleading “Don’t make me choose.”

“My Next Sad Song” finds him reflecting on a woman that was sure to break his heart, while “I Can’t Get Another You” is a soulful ballad that finds him contemplating lost love. He may be able to replace a lot of things in his life, but the one that got away is irreplaceable. 

“I Know Something She Don’t Know” is one of the collection’s highlights, a mid-tempo track that builds in the best way as Tenpenny prepares to end a relationship. Here, he enjoys one more special night, knowing that it’s all ending in the morning. The track offers a different perspective on the classic breakup song, twinged with a bittersweet mood as he prepares to be the one breaking a heart. “I ain’t saying we ain’t right,” he croons. “But we ain’t right, right now.”

Despite all the heartbreak Tenpenny endured, the EP concludes with romance. “The Way You Are,” penned solely by Tenpenny is something special. With only a sparse musical accompaniment, Tenpenny’s R&B-hinted tone has never sounded better than on this romantic ballad. “Good Morning sunshine, how did you sleep?” He sings to the woman in his arms. “Was your dream as good as mine // I guess I’m still in the middle of it.”

Since the release of “Drunk Me,” Mitchell Tenpenny has been one of country music’s most consistent hit makers. However, The Low Light Sessions is truly a special release, sharing more of the singer-songwriter’s heart. While radio hits are very likely here, the EP also serves to further share Tenpenny’s story and his depth as a songwriter.

Singer-songwriter, Ingrid Andress gives fans a taste of her forthcoming sophomore record with her brand new song, “Good Person”. Andress has made a name for herself in the music industry. She is known for her reflective and personal songwriting, as well as, her ethereal voice. “Good Person” is just another example of her incredible talent.

Written by the songstress with Steph Jones and Sam Ellis, this song screams ‘Andress.’ “I wrote ‘Good Person’ when I realized that I was starting to question a lot of things,” shared the singer in a recent press release. “What makes somebody good and what does that look like, and in a world of being so judgmental of other people, what makes you better than them?” The singer later added that she featured these parallels in the visuals for the song.

“Good person // How do you do it? // Do you just wake up with a smile on you face // Good person // What does it look like seeing the world as a big happy place? // I’m trying to turn the page // Do you think I have what it takes?”

The song showcases Andress and her journey on a quest for self-growth. This concept is something we can all relate to and relish in together. “Good Person” is the song we did not know that we needed this year.

Morgan Wallen is proving to be one of the biggest acts in country music right now. As he hits city after city on his sold-out tour, Wallen continues to give fans what they want: more music. Today, he released his highly anticipated new song, “Don’t Think Jesus.”

In typical Wallen fashion, the entertainer shared the unreleased version of this song on social media. Although the singer writes many of his songs, this song was written for him by some of his songwriter friends. Co-written by Chase McGill, Jessi Alexander and Mark Holman, the track brought out so much emotion in the singer upon listening.

“If I was him I’d say, ‘To hell with you, ain’t no helping you’ // Find someone else to give // Heaven to I’m telling you // I’d shame me, I blame me // I’d make me pay for my mistakes // Oh, but I don’t think Jesus does it that way”

The song portrays a man trying to make sense of the demons in his life, and turning to Jesus as a moral compass. We hope “Don’t Think Jesus” is the start of more and more new music from Wallen. It seems his career just keeps getting bigger and bigger with every release.

Chayce Beckham: ‘Doin’ It Right’ – EP Review

After winning season 19 of American Idol, Chayce Beckham released a handful of original songs, including his coronation song, “23,” and a steamy duet with labelmate Lindsay Ell. Today, April 15, the gravel-voiced singer-songwriter and 2022 Country Swag Artist to Watch releases his debut EP, Doin’ It Right, with BBR Music Group/Wheelhouse Records. 

For Beckham, the six song collection reflects his growth since winning the television show, his time spent in Nashville, and the story of the everyman. “Since my season on American Idol, I’ve been busy in Nashville writing songs and touring,” says Beckham in a statement. “I tested these songs in front of live audiences last year, and now I’m so excited to have them recorded and ready for you to listen to. I’m really proud of these songs, and I believe they not only tell my story, but they tell stories relatable to everyone going through everyday life.”

Beckham co-wrote four of the EP’s six tracks, and enlisted an army of Nashville’s biggest names to complete the project. Writers featured here include the likes of Ross Copperman, Josh Osborne, Will Hoge, Ben Hayslip, Hillary Lindsay, and more.

Opening with “Where the River Goes,” the California native immediately sets the stage for the collection with this twangy and laid back tune. Here, he’s ready to leave his troubles behind and spend some time lost out in nature. He’s escaping it all, as he proclaims, “I’m going where the river goes // Where I’ll end up // Nobody knows.”

A common theme of the EP is living life and living it well, which weaves its way through tracks including “Doin’ It Right” and previously released, “Tell Me Twice.” On the EP’s vibrant title track, Beckham proclaims that life is about enjoying the small moments. Meanwhile, “Tell Me Twice” is one of the album’s clear highlights. On the introspective ode to enjoying the simpler things in life, Beckham’s voice soars over slide guitar and stunning female background vocals. “You know how it goes, after every low comes a high,” He proclaims. “That’s life // You better hold on // And hold on tight // You don’t have to tell me twice.”

“I’ll Take the Bar” finds Beckham struggling with the aftermath of a breakup in a small town. Lyrically, the track is a brilliant variation on the typical drinking breakup song. Written solely by Jordan Walker, the slow burning ballad builds as Beckham is ready to drown his sorrows over the woman who left him. Here, he cleverly divides their town, “There’s gotta be a way to split up this town // It might sound crazy, baby, but hear me out // I’ll take the backroads // You take Main Street // You can have the steak house // I’ll take the Dairy Queen,” He proposes. “Yeah you take care of yourself // I’ll take what’s left of my heart // Baby you take it easy // And I’ll take it hard // You take off // And I’ll take the bar.”

The EP ends with the explosively catchy “Love to Burn,” an intoxicating uptempo that’s sure to highlight the singer-songwriter’s live shows. With its building chorus and anthemic lyrics, “Love to Burn” sounds like an immediate hit and ends the EP on a glorious high note.

When Chayce Beckham took to social media to announce this project, he shared that there was something for everyone on it, and that couldn’t be more accurate. “I worked so hard writing these songs and there’s even a couple on there I didn’t write, and I’m so honored I got to be the artist to record them. After a long day at work, I hope y’all can roll your windows down and listen to this EP track for track and just feel good,” he writes. “There’s a breakup song, a where I’m from song, a love song, a river song, I tried to put all the vibes in one place for ya.”

While the EP may be named after its title track, it’s safe to say that when it comes to his new music, Chayce Beckham is definitely “doin’ it right.”

“Without Tennessee” is Filmore’s release of the week. Part of a string of releases that the artist has titled ‘Filmore Friday’, it follows tracks like “If That Ain’t Country”, “Falling Out of Love”, “Somewhere With Beer”, “Girl Back”, “Leave Me A Memory” and “Johnny Got A Girl”.

The most authentic and personal of his ‘Filmore Friday’ releases thus far, “Without Tennessee ” pays tribute to the state that led the artist to the love of his life. Thinking that the reason he was meant to be there was to chase his dream in country music, he realizes that that dream was actually just part of a bigger plan – the real reason he was meant to be in Tennessee. 

Coming from Wildwood, Missouri, Filmore now calls Tennessee home, where he lives with his wife, Paige. He wrote this track on their back porch (along with Blake Pendergrass) as he reflected on the journey.

Little Big Town Drops New Song “Hell Yeah”

Little Big Town have released several anthemic breakup songs throughout their longtime reign as country superstars, and their latest, “Hell Yeah” is no exception. The track is casual and clever in its delivery and the foursome each had a hand in writing and producing the catchy song.

“Phillip and I wrote this with Tyler Hubbard and Corey Crowder,” Jimi Westbrook of the band shared.  “I remember when Corey brought that hook in that day. He sang his idea and when he turned that phrase at the end of the chorus, we were all like ‘hell yeah!’ We always have a blast writing with those guys.”

“This song is a classic breakup song, flipped upside down,” continued Sweet, who takes on the lead vocals of the song. “It’s pure feel-good vibes. We are so excited to premiere it on the CMT Music Awards which has always been a home for us in releasing new music.”

“Hell Yeah” might not be upbeat in its lyrical content, but sonically, it feels perfect for a nice April day.

Sweet has one of the richest and underrated voices in all of country music, and this single is perfect for longtime fans of the band and for those who love the classic southern summer rock that is missing from today’s airwaves. This is the first track from Little Big Town’s new project and based on this new release, more great songs are on the horizon.

Carrie Underwood Surprises with New Album Details + Drops Title Track

Carrie Underwood’s next album, ‘Diamonds & Rhinestones’ is due out June 10th. Underwood surprised fans today with the release of the title track along with the full song list for the project. Learn more below.

Superstar Carrie Underwood splashed back onto the scene last month, releasing “Ghost Story”, her first country solo track in over three years and the leading single from an upcoming mystery album.

Although the details for a highly anticipated new project weren’t initially revealed, today, the wait is finally over! ‘Denim & Rhinestones’, the 8x GRAMMY winner’s seventh country record and ninth overall, including two Christian projects, ‘My Gift’ (2020) and ‘My Savior’ (2021) will be available June 10th. According to Underwood, the collection of new music is a “sing into your hairbrush in your room” kind of album.

“I really just wanted to make an album that just felt like fun,” the American Idol alum, entrepreneur, and mother of two said in a trailer for the project. “I feel like this one ended up being a bigger reflection of me as a person as an artist. We have a lot of songs that could be considered throwback songs, but they sound super fresh. These are influences that are in me and work their way out and I just decided this time not to get in their way.”

The title track from the record is a perfect example of the fun, fresh, yet classic vibe Underwood teased. “Denim & Rhinestones” includes an electronic intro and dance beat reminiscent of the 80s, with modern rhythms and a new take on the concept of two people fitting perfectly together.

“Like the quarter and a jukebox slot // Like the key that turns a lock // Some things don’t get any better // Than when they go together, denim and rhinestones // You’re the smooth and I’m the shine // We’re the neon dancing all night // Denim and rhinestones”

With an early June release, the record is perfectly positioned to be the soundtrack of the summer and we are here for it! “Ghost Story” and “Denim & Rhinestones” are available now wherever you stream music, and ‘Denim & Rhinestones’ the album arrives everywhere June 10th. Although it has been a little while since we have heard new music from the artist, Ballerini is still enjoying the successes of her album kelsea, including a CMT nomination for Video of the Year for “Half of My Hometown” featuring Kenny Chesney at this year’s CMT Awards, coming up this Monday, April 11th. 

Ballerini opened up recently to fans on her socials about the journey of kelsea and what that chapter of her life meant to her. On the two-year anniversary of its release, the artist shared that the journey of this album was one that didn’t start off the way she had envisioned it. As its release fell on the same week that the world shut down during the worldwide COVID 19 pandemic, the circumstances made her disconnect from the project, feeling like she had lost all of what she had hoped the album would become. She shared: “I spent the first few months of its life grieving the loss of what I had hoped we’d share together, and wondering if and how creatively I would bounce back.” 

She goes on to speak on how her fans still showed up for her and the album, making it “the record and ‘era’ that (she’s) the most proud of.” Despite the record having two radio number ones ( “Half of My Hometown” and “Hole in the Bottle” ), two gold and two platinum songs on it, she shares what she feels is much more important when it comes to this record is that “It taught me patience, humility, and to welcome the unexpected. To loosen up on my grip on what it is I think is going to happen, and just enjoy the ride while I’m on it.” It is this same risk-taking and ‘glass half full’ attitude that shines through in “HEARTFIRST”. 

With this ‘happy birthday’ post, the artist officially marked the end of the kelsea chapter. And when one chapter ends, another one begins and we now know that “HEARTFIRST” is the start of the next chapter for the artist. Highlighting an incredible take on life, and an important lesson that we have all learned over the last couple of years “HEARTFIRST” is all about living life in the moment, not worrying about outcomes or all the ‘what ifs’, and taking everything as it comes.

Last month, Alana Springsteen released “Me, Myself, and Why” which was the first release off her upcoming project History of Breaking up (Part Two). Part One, which was her first album, was released last year and included singles like “Zero Trucks”, “California”, and “Trying Not To” with Roman Alexander.

Today, continuing to tease us with releases from her next highly anticipated project, Springsteen just dropped the album’s second single, “New Number”. The catchy and relatable track was written by Shane McAnally, Ashley Gorley, and Rhett Akins. Sprinsteen co-produced the single with Cameron Jaymes. As Springsteen co-wrote each of the songs on Part One and each song she has ever released, this makes “New Number” the first and only outside cut the artist has ever recorded.

Feeling that she can’t do it on her own and lacking the self-control necessary to do so, she is begging her ex to make it easy on her and get a new number so that the choice is no longer up to her.
