In a recent press release King shared, “I wrote Cold Shoulder to paint a vivid picture of what it feels like to lose someone you love. I wanted it to be incredibly visual—so that when you listen, you feel like you’re right there in the moment. At its core, it’s a simple story about one of the hardest nights of my life. We recorded it in a single take, which is a really special detail. It’s the most stripped-down song I’ve ever released, and I’m excited for people to hear a different side of me.”
The way the artist described this song is exactly what we felt upon first listen. “Cold Shoulder” is clever, raw, and heartbreaking in all of the best ways. The song personifies how it feels to lose the person you love in a single moment. Anyone who has every been through a tough moment like that is sure to relate. Additionally, the fact that King paints the picture with his own life experience makes the song that much more special!
