Russell Dickerson Achieves Rare Feat as First Three Singles Hit No. 1

Russell Dickerson Album Release

One of our all-time favorite artists and one of our day ones’, Russell Dickerson has achieved a monumental feat. His first three singles to ever be released to country radio hit the number one spot on the charts, including “Yours,” “Blue Tacoma,” and most recently, “Every Little Thing.”

Although there are tons of artists that have reached the top spot on the charts, there are only a few, who have accomplished this as a brand new artist. Dickerson joins the likes of Luke Combs, who currently holds the record with six number ones in a row and Kelsea Ballerini, who’s first three singles all reached the coveted number one spot. Florida Georgia Line rounds out this list with their first four singles also hitting the top spot on Country Airplay in modern times.

This is a testament to these artists, who know their fan base and audience so well that they delivered a debut record that both fans and country radio love and support. Dickerson’s hard work and organic rise to fame deserves to be recognized and applauded, as he truly is the epitome of what hitting the pavement, never giving up, and keeping a positive attitude can do for you.

His first number one, “Yours,” was truly the little song that could. Dickerson first played the song for us, when we hosted our first ever Country Brunch with the singer-songwriter back in January 2016. This was before his record deal and before his debut album, but even then the entertainer knew how to win over fans in the room and mesmerize even the skeptics with his undeniable charm and talent.  Country fans who got to witness his magic and stage presence early on knew then that we had a superstar on our hands.

Russell Dickerson

“Blue Tacoma,” his second single to country radio off his debut record Yours, topped the charts almost a year to the date of his album release. If that’s not proof that he is made for this life, then we don’t know what is! Dickerson played this song, along with his third number one, “Every Little Thing,” and “MGNO,” at our Country On the Water event back in the summer of 2016, when all he had out was an EP.

We are so proud to champion his career over the years, and truly appreciate how he has stayed as humble as they come; despite, all his well-deserved success. Dickerson’s love and pride for what he does was truly showcased when he performed his heart out at Madison Square Garden back in September.

Years prior, our founder, Stephanie Wagner manifested that he would one day perform on that stage. Dickerson also remembered that moment and took time out of his performance to show his support for NYCountry Swag, shouting out our company on the sold-out venue filled with 18k country fans.

We cannot wait to continue to root for more success for the singer-songwriter and predict that one day he will be accepting an honor as Entertainer of the Year.

Congratulations to Russell and his team on this awesome accomplishment!

It will be interesting to see, who will join this crew of talented singer-songwriters next! In the meantime, check out some other rising artists, whose debut singles hit, the top spot on the charts here.

Russell Dickerson’s $6 Video Up For CMT Breakout Video of the Year…

Rising country star, Russell Dickerson was amongst the multiple artists who were surprised with a CMT Award nomination yesterday (May 8.).  His debut single and first #1 song, “Yours” is up for CMT Breakout Video of the Year. The nomination sparks an extra special recognition for Dickerson as the entire video was directed, filmed, produced and edited by none other than his beautiful wife, Kailey.

The now famous “$6 Video”, costing only the price of the gas used, was filmed from the back of a friends SUV, while Dickerson used a tri-pod and camera to shoot her husband walking behind the truck. When a thunderstorm erupted during the middle of shooting, nature’s beauty added it’s own special effects to the impromptu shoot.

Kailey Dickerson, who also happens to be one of our recent ‘Woman of the Month’ features, credits God for the extra touches in the video in a recent Instagram post.

Read more about Kailey here and be sure to VOTE for Russell Dickerson’s video “Yours” for CMT Breakout Video of the Year here. Tune in to the CMT Awards Wednesday, June 6th 8/7c on CMT and CMT.com.

NYCS Swag Spotlight: Home Free

Initially, the country music genre’s only all-vocal group Home Free was formed back in 2000 but were really thrust into the scene after participating and winning the 4th season of the singing competition, The Sing Off.  The group which is made up of five vocalists, Austin Brown, Adam Chance, Tim Foust, Rob Lundquist and Adam Rupp are our Swag Spotlight this week, as we focus on their unique brand and their beautiful harmonies.  Rob Lundquist spoke to NYCounry Swag about their tour, their sound and their niche corner of country music. “We have our own niche in this market for sure, nobody else is doing a cappella country, we get to be trailblazers in our own right, we figure out what we want to do and we can always try something else, it’s liberating,” he explains.

Although the majority of their music are covers with a twist on well-known country songs, they also dabble in writing, producing and creating their own original music. They have garnered over 215 million views on YouTube. “We try and put out two YouTube videos a month, we are not on the radio so that is our way to stay relevant and keep people engaged,” he tells us. “We were lucky enough to get with a pretty great management team, Works Entertainment and after the show is where we really started working, touring, making music videos and recording new singles all of the time and that’s really been why we’ve been able to hang around and keep growing.”

Most recently they covered Russell Dickerson’s “Yours”, and Lundquist told us that it was a no-brainer to cover that incredible love song.  As far as picking which songs to cover, he lets us know that it is a democratic process, each member must love the song in order for them to create an arrangement specific for them and their sound. They mainly think about what their fans will want to hear, what they think will reach new markets as well.  Their original song “Timeless” is a catchy tune with an amazing video, showing couples reenacting photos that were taken of them when they were much younger. Take a look at the touching video below.

Their Timeless Tour has hit over 30 cities over the country, including a sold-out stop at Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium. The quintet will also perform at CMA Fest this year on the Riverfront Stage. Then continue the summer playing with The Oak Ridge Boys. “Tour has been great, we are all over the country.  People are coming out, we are playing some new markets that we haven’t played and it’s been really fun,” Lundquist tells us.

In a time in country music and music in general when the production and the instruments can sometimes overtake the lyrics of a song, Home Free has managed to push past needing that, creating their own brand using only the beautiful voices they were given.  For more information and tour dates head to www.homefreemusic.com

NYCS First Impression: Russell Dickerson Impresses with Debut Album

Russell Dickerson Album Release

High energy live set, great songs to dance along to and sheer determination to make it in this business, Russell Dickerson has officially arrived y’all.  His debut album, appropriately titled Yours after his incredible love song, is filled with 12 tracks with a little something for every fan.  Fans who have seen Dickerson open for Thomas Rhett’s Home Team Tour or most recently Florida Georiga Line’s Smooth Tour know the sheer power he can bring to a live show as he jumps around the stage and engages with his fans.  He brings that same energy into this new album, featuring up-tempo songs, slow grooves and even a wedding version of “Yours”.

“I’m beyond stoked to have my first full-length album out and available for pre-order!”  he says in a recent press release. “The support from my fans is what has brought me this far. The Yours EP has changed my life, and I cannot wait to see what the Yours album will bring!”  Fans of Dickerson will be pleased to know, five favorites off his Yours EP made the cut for the full-length album including, “Yours” (the original and an acoustic wedding version), “MGNO”, “Blue Tacoma” and “Every Little Thing”. As a co-writer on each of the 12 songs, this album embodies the music that he wants to create, fun music that his fans will love to listen to and that will inspire repeat spins.

Besides “Yours” which started out as a simple love song for his wife Kailey, the album has no shortage of romantic vibes including the up-tempo “Every Little Thing” and the reggae-inspired, “Would You Love Me” as well as “You Look Like A Love Song” which shines with a gospel choir singing background vocals.  Dickerson gets sensual with “All Falls Down” and “Low Key” but does it in a way that feels genuine and will make you want to grab a bottle of wine, turn down the lights and slow dance.

For those missing the lazy, hazy days of summer, “Float” will bring you right back and hold you over until you are able to enjoy those warm days at the beach again.  The nostalgia-filled, “twentysomething” and “Billions” are primed for arena sing-alongs.

The LP highlights Dickerson’s incredible ability to be versatile, and although it is cohesive each song has its own influence and vibe.  Grab Yours on iTunes and check out our recap from our Country Night on the Water with Dickerson last year.
