Lanie Gardner is the type of artist that makes you stop and listen, the second you hear her sing. Much like Megan Moroney and Lauren Watkins, who made our list in previous years, Gardner has staying power. Her debut album, A Songwriter’s Diary, released earlier this year, was the perfect introduction to the songstress. We can only hope that more music is coming down the pipeline soon from the incredible rising artist.

Tucker Wetmore ‘Waves On A Sunset’ – EP Review

There are few stars in Nashville that are currently rising as quickly as Tucker Wetmore. Signed to UMG Nashville in partnership with Back Blocks Music this summer, the singer-songwriter’s debut EP, Waves on a Sunset, is out now. 

Featuring eight new tracks, including the viral hit “Wine Into Whiskey,” the EP is poised to continue the singer-songwriter’s meteoric rise. Wetmore co-wrote five of the eight tracks, which find him bending genres and dabbling in everything from country to pop to rock to hip hop.

The 24-year old took to Instagram to announce the project, sharing “In a lot of ways this feels like my introduction to the world so I wanted to share some sides of me y’all haven’t seen yet. These songs have been mine for a while, but I can’t wait to make them ours.”

The music on the EP finds itself perfectly placed in the lane of mid-tempo, radio-friendly country music, much in the vein of Bailey Zimmerman, Morgan Wallen, and Russell Dickerson. This is evidenced immediately on the opening track, “Silverado Blue,” which perfectly balances twang with country lyricism and pop sensibilities. 

Heartbreak weaves its way through songs like “Wine Into Whiskey,” “Wind Up Missin’ You,” and “What Would You Do.” While “What Would You Do” finds him confronting a cheater over hip hop-laden beats, “Wind Up Missin’ You” finds him musing that he’ll be devastated if a one-night stand doesn’t become something more. Lastly, “Wine Into Whiskey” finds him grappling with his own mistakes as the cause of a woman’s broken heart.

“I took a good thing and I turned it into goodbye // Took the fire in her eyes, put it on ice // Turned that angel’s world upside down // Dipped her wings in Tennessee brown // I turned her callin’ me into callin’ me a mistake // Turned heart of gold into a heartbreak // If I was her, I’d damn sure hate me // I turned her love into pain and her wine into whiskey”

“You, Honey” may be the album’s most country-laden track, both in instrumentation and lyrics, while “Break First” is a catchy earworm in the best way possible. With hints of pop and catchy guitar riffs, it’s sure to be another hit for Wetmore. Meanwhile, “What I Ain’t Looking” has him humble and grateful, acknowledging the best moments in his life that have come along when he wasn’t seeking them out.

The EP ends with its most sparse and raw moment, “Mister Miss Her,” which finds the singer sharing his broken heart over a stripped and acoustic track. “I’m Mister Miss her, and she ain’t missing me,” He sings, voice laced with emotion.

For Tucker Wetmore, his Waves on a Sunset EP is a way for the Washington native to introduce himself to country music fans. With a mix of genre-bending country that is already spawning viral success, it’s sure to continue his meteoric rise.

From the minute Tucker Wetmore showed up on our radar, we knew he was something special. Each and everyone of his previous releases including two of our favorites, “Wine Into Whiskey” and “Wind Up Missin’ You”, have only added to his undeniable talent and charm. Today, after recently announcing the release date for his debut EP, Wetmore is adding another song to his growing catalog. His new song, “Silverado Blue” is out now!

Written by Wetmore with Brett Sheroky and Dan Wilson, “Silverado Blue” captures how it feels to know that things are going to change. It’s a song about the end of a relationship without feeling too sad. “Silverado Blue” is nostalgic, raw, and fun to listen to (not to mention relatable). Throughout the song, Wetmore puts his feelings aside, allowing the girl to chase her own dreams.

Today, the singer-songwriter is sharing another new song to add to his catalog. Wetmore’s new single, “What Would You Do” is officially out now.

Written by the singer with Jacob Hackworth, Jaxon Free, and Gabe Foust, the new single delves into a toxic relationship, where there is suspicion of cheating or unfaithfulness. The song feels haunting, yet eerily relatable. On the track, Wetmore forces the other person to look at their own actions and confront their own demons that have turned the relationship into dust.

Last month we introduced you to singer-songwriter Tucker Wetmore, an artist that we are really excited about. Wetmore’s debut single, “Wine Into Whiskey” surpassed expectations and amassed over 28 million global streams. Today, the singer is sharing another new song with fans who are begging for more music from the newcomer. “Wind Up Missin’ You” is officially out now.

Written by the singer with Thomas Archer and Chris La Corte, “Wind Up Missin’ You” depicts the hopefulness of the beginning stages of attraction and a potential love story. The lyrics feel conversational and relatable, as the songs weaves through the feelings of hoping to extend one night into something more.

The Beginning:

This week’s spotlight artist is an artist that we really believe has all the qualities to make it far in music. With an impressive fanbase already established across social media, Tucker Wetmore is primed for stardom. While the singer-songwriter is still brand new to the music industry, his journey thus far is both impressive and exciting.

Wetmore grew up in Washington state, where he was surrounded by supportive friends and family. “Growing up was fun. I was in the middle of not nowhere, but nowhere, ya know. There wasn’t really much to do, so we just found stuff to do, and had fun doing it, if that makes sense. Luckily, I had a super solid friend group and family growing up, so just lots of time with them, making memories,” he shares. Adding “Growing up, my grandpa was a pastor, and he owned a church. […] Music was a huge part of just the church thing, and a huge part of growing up.”

The singer had access to all different types of music throughout his upbringing, including reggae and artists like 3 Doors Down. “Growing up, it was a lot of reggae, a lot of pacific-islander music. My dad and my uncle liked heavy metal […]. In the truck, we’d throw on country radio like Darius Rucker, Josh Turner, that whole era.”

At eleven years old, Wetmore sat at the piano for the first time. “Music kind of came into play when I was eleven. I started playing piano, and I didn’t really get up from it for a long time. I kind of used it as my therapy thing,” he shared. “I started teaching myself piano when I was eleven. I’m entirely self-taught. […] I picked up guitar shortly after that, too. Around sophomore year of high school however, I kind of put music down, and started focusing on sports.”

The Turning Point:

Despite loving music, Wetmore also loved football, and decided to attend college in Montana to play.

“I played a year of college ball in Montana, and I ended up breaking my leg for the third time. I said I should probably start taking care of my body a bit,” he shared, recalling the time he decided to quit football and ultimately leaving school.

“I dropped out of college, I had maybe 2 weeks left of my freshman year, and I just dropped out. I moved back home, got surgery, started working at a coffee shop, and I remember sitting my mom down about six months after I got home, and I said, “’Mom, I’m feeling super lost, I don’t know what I’m doing in my life.’” She said, “’well, why don’t you go sit down in front of the piano, that used to be your vice, your therapy, maybe that will strike something,’” so I wrote my first song that night after she told me that.”

With the support of his family, Wetmore reignited his passion for music. Six months after that initial conversation, he told his mom that he wanted to do music for a living. She encouraged him to go all in and to stay afloat.

With that advice in his pocket, the singer-songwriter made the move to Nashville in 2020, during the pandemic. “There wasn’t a lot of people out. My first year and a half was a lot of mingling and meeting people, and going out, and luckily, by the grace of God, I met my core friend group in the first two months,” shared the singer. “Then my manager and my publisher, Rakiyah [Marshall England], she hit me up probably a year and a half into living here. I had posted a couple of originals, just me playing on my guitar on Instagram and TikTok, and she happened to come by those, and she saw something in me, and went out on a limb.”

Today:

Since signing with Rakiyah’s management team, Wetmore has teased many songs on social media that fans are begging for him to release. Recently, the singer dropped his first official song called, “Wine Into Whiskey,” which he wrote with Jacob Hackworth and Justin Ebach.

“I remember sitting there throwing ideas around for 45 minutes to an hour and nothing was sticking,” Wetmore recalls of the day the three got together to write the track. “Then, Ebach pipes up and he says ‘I’m really sorry, but I’m just extremely hungover right now.’ Me and Jacob looked at each other and were like ‘thank god’, because we were too,” he continues. Adding, “We were just coming off my birthday weekend, and we all took a couple of minutes to laugh about that. Then finally, Ebach pipes up and he goes ‘Alright, I don’t know what this means, but wine into whiskey.’”

Eventually, the threesome began writing the song, which took them about 45 minutes total. “Wine Into Whiskey” depicts what it feels like from the guy’s perspective to break a girl’s heart. “I grew up with four sisters and a beautiful mother and seeing them go through relationships growing up was kind of my inspiration behind this song,” shared the singer. “I saw how they went through some things and some of the things that they went through weren’t right to me, so I kind of put it from the perspective of if the guy would have seen or known what he was doing wrong, maybe he wouldn’t of done it, kind of thing.”

On the verge artist, who has already amassed an impressive following on social media, Tucker Wetmore is sharing his debut single and it is one to pay attention to. His song, “Wine Into Whiskey” is officially here.

Fans of artists like Morgan Wallen and Jordan Davis are going to fall in love with Wetmore’s debut track. “Wine Into Whiskey” is an honest look at love, heartbreak, and the aftermath of all of it. He manages to pay special attention to the experience a girl goes through from a guy’s perspective during a break-up, adding even more interest to the already impressive song. The tune feels familiar and comforting from the first lyric; despite, the melancholy story. Wetmore impresses with his vocals and his storytelling throughout the intriguing single.
