Casssadee Pope Performs “If My Heart Had A Heart” on TODAY

Just days after the release of her new album, Stages, independent artist Cassadee Pope, appeared on NBC’s Today Show for the second time. She took the stage during the 9 AM hour with co-anchors Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones, Dylan Dreyer, and Craig Melvin to perform on The Artist Lounge presented by Today. The Artist Lounge is where our favorite singers will be performing stripped down versions of their songs and this week it was Pope’s turn performing the T.V. debut of her new single, “If My Heart Had A Heart.”

Before performing her emotional ballad, co-anchors, Roker, Jones, Dreyer, and Melvin came to the stage to introduce and talk to the singer-songwriter. While welcoming her, they played a short clip showing Pope’s story, mentioning that she won The Voice back in 2012 along with many of her other musical accomplishments throughout the years. After the clip, Pope couldn’t stop smiling while mentioning she was so excited. Once she was introduced, Melvin had one question for the singer-songwriter saying, “You’re going on tour, by the way, you got a big tour coming up but the title of the album, stages, What’s behind that?” Pope replying, “So it’s basically an album I’ve been writing over the last year and a half and lots happened in my life so it just explains all the stages I’ve been through.”

After the brief interview, it was the moment viewers at home had been waiting for. Pope appeared on stage with only a cello and keyboard player to perform her stripped down version of “If My Heart Had AHeart.” She belted out the lyrics over the instruments, putting her beautiful vocals on full display while leaving viewers at home with chills. Pope captivated her audience with her passion-filled performance showcasing her talent along with the song’s vulnerability and pain of heartbreak. At the end of the song, the studio erupted in cheers.

Luckily for New Yorkers, we can catch Cassadee Pope on CMT’s Next Women of Country Tour with special guests Hannah Ellis and Clare Dunn, hitting the Gramercy Theater on April 26th!

NYCS First Impression: Cassadee Pope ‘Stages’

stages

Leaving her record label in 2017, Cassadee Pope just released her anticipated, vulnerable album stages as an independent artist. The record includes 11 tracks, 8 co-written by Pope, giving a personal look into her life over the past year.

The singles she released prior to the album release, “Take You Home,” “One More Red Light”, and “If My Heart Had A Heart” was just a glimpse of what has finally arrived. Her catchy track “FYI” shows a sassy, fierce side to the album. The lyrics focus on how she won’t bite her tongue on this “boy trying to make girl jealous” situation. The melody built up in the lyrics “While he was flyin’ you to Vegas and all our favorite places / Always runnin’ ‘round with each other / He was sayin’ that he missed me, and damn girl you look pretty / I don’t think you’d like how he was lookin’ at me,” Pope unleashes the power of her voice and fiery side she’s taking on.

Her catchy track “Distracted,” was penned with some of Pope’s talented friends and fellow artists Lauren Alaina, Lindsay Ell, and RaeLynn.  This playful love song has a groovy, country twang feel that makes the song a highlight on the album. Other songs on the album including “Don’t Ask Me” and “I Feel Good” are the most relatable track for anyone going through a breakup. They’re vulnerable, real, and personable. Pope also included “Gavi” an emotional tribute to one of her close friends and musician, Jason Gaviati, who passed away in 2015. The 90-second track includes Gaviati playing a heart-wrenching piano melody that hits close to home.

Pope’s new album stages is an inspiring, personal record that’s worth the listen. Make sure to catch Pope out on the CMT New Women Of Country Tour 2019 to see her perform these beautifully penned tracks.
