Rob Bellamy ‘Hungry Heart’ EP Review

Rob Bellamy’s brand new EP Hungry Heart is available now on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new songs off the new EP.

Rob Bellamy

One of our favorite local artists, Rob Bellamy makes great music and has a killer voice. He creates music that is authentic to who he is which relates to country fans everywhere. The singer-songwriter just released his newest project, an EP entitled Starving Eyes a few months ago, and now is back again with seven more brand new songs on a project he is calling Hungry Heart.

Bellamy kicks the record off on a high-energy note with “I’d Rather Have a Beer in My Hand.” Leaning into the blue-collar, everyday story, the song is all about wanting to kick back with friends, rather than working. We can all relate to this song, as he sings “Man this week sure got the best of me / Punching the clock is the last place that I want to be.” A similarly fun track, “Dance With Me” is a sexy, honky-tonk vibe, where Bellamy’s vocals shine and soar.

The project continues into a more romantic sound. “Only Drunk I Wanna Get,” one of our favorites off the EP is a hopeful, love song. Bellamy sings about wanting to get drunk on love with his sweetheart. The soothing and honest quality of the song, as well as, the well-crafted lyrics makes you want to root for this blossoming relationship. “No Space Between” is another romantic and well-thought-out song on the project.

“Until The Weekends Through” is also one of the best off the record. Bellamy leans into the singer-songwriter vibe on this one. Although topically the song is about drinking after a long work week, the singer makes the song feel fresh and innovative.

With a strong instrumental, heavy on guitars, “Wish We Could Have Stayed” is story-telling at its finest. You cannot help, but to fully engage with the lyrics Bellamy is passionately singing. The melody and the backing track amplifies the already captivating track.

“Looking back we had it made / I know time rolls on / But I wish we could have stayed.”

Finally the record ends with Bellamy’s acoustic rendition of “Firebird.” Vocally, the song is exquisite, as the singer takes us through the story of loving a car and loving the simple life. The song was the perfect way to end an already incredible project.

These seven songs could easily join the other group of songs off Starving Eyes to become a full-length project by the promising talent.

Rob Bellamy Releases Brand New EP, ‘Starving Eyes’

Rob Bellamy’s brand new EP Starving Eyes is available now, October 30th on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new songs off the project.

One of our favorite local Northeast artists, Rob Bellamy makes great music and has an even killer voice. He creates music that is authentic to who he is and relates to country fans everywhere. The singer-songwriter has joined us for our special events from the very beginning when he opened our show with Russell Dickerson back in 2016 and most recently when we held our first ‘Manhattan by Sail Country Cruise’ around New York City. Now, as most artists have continued to work on their craft during the pandemic, Bellamy reintroduces himself with a new collection of songs in his latest project, an EP entitled Starving Eyes.

Bellamy wastes no time delivering arguably the best song on the project. The first track, “Come This Far” is an anthem for following your dreams. Perfectly timed for 2020, the song reminds us all to regain our hustle and to keep working and clawing towards our goals.

“I didn’t come this far to slow down yet / I’m not done giving blood, tears, and sweat / I’m still running with a flame inside of me / On a path that’s following my lead”

In “Cigarette Smoke,” Bellamy leans into his nostalgic side, reminiscing about a past memory with someone special. The mid-tempo song is story-telling at its finest, which any country fan will appreciate. Similarly, listeners will find “Bedroom Door” to feel nostalgic too; however, this time the singer recounts the story of that time in 2008, where he picked his guitar back up, propelling him back towards his dream.

Bellamy speeds things up a bit with “Built to Run.” The country-rock tune features the singer’s signature vibrato, while he expresses the back and forth of a push and pull relationship. He continues to grapple with similar feelings on the rock-infused “Rearview.” Moving away from the rock elements, “Bring It on Home” has more traditional country roots. The love song is a bright spot on the project.

As the EP comes to a close, Bellamy shares one more song with fans, an acoustic track entitled “100 Proof.” The song is piercing and enticing. Bellamy’s vocals soar, as alcohol-inspired clever lyrics fill your ears. We love a song that has a double meaning, and this song fits the bill, rounding out a solid new record.

NYCS First Impression: Rob Bellamy & Ayla Brown ‘Make It Mean Something’

Ayla Brown Rob Bellamy

The applicable time to prosecute a passion in music is straight away, regardless of what you have already consummated and your age. The flair between duo-group Rob Bellamy and Ayla Brown is beyond prodigious. Between the two, plentiful dreams have been made with more to come. In 2004, Bellamy was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers after college at The University of Maine in Orono and after transiting to Nottingham, England to play hockey overseas, decided to pursue music. Brown is a former NCAA Basketball Player and is a past American Idol contestant who landed in the Top 16. Now, she is the co-host of The Jonathan and Ayla Show on Country 102.5.

The pair recorded their first country-Americana debut EP Make it Mean Something in Portland, Oregon. The title track is a jovial, heavy-acoustic guitar-driven tune introducing the anatomy of the duo-group to the world. “Nothing Gonna Stop” trails off of the love skirt of the title track harboring the singer’s amicable harmonies singing: “I’m gonna find the sweetest honey, even if I’m getting stung by bees // I’m gonna sail across the ocean, even if I hit stormy seas // Hot dessert, I’ll cross it // Through fire, I’ll run it // A hole in the ground that I can’t get around // Ain’t a thing in the world gonna slow me down // Nothing gonna stop, nothing gonna stop, nothing gonna stop from getting me to you and me. //

“Always Have A Home” channels an elephantine folk-ambiance with the picking of the instrumentation. It escalates the love theme even further with the tag, “Your heart will always have a home.” The closer “Built That Way” is an emotional, well-constructed ballad where the duo confess what makes them who they are. They sing, “I plant my butt at an old wood pew on Sunday morning // I hit my knees every time I pray // I bow my head when I beg for forgiveness // And I damn sure stand every time Old Glory waves // Yeah, I’m just built that way.”

Bellamy communicated on his Instagram to express his gratitude for all their fellow co-writers and “Out TODAY on all platforms. @aylabrownofficial and I recorded this EP in Portland, Oregon @jackpotrecording. Big thanks to @gusberry for helping us bring these songs to life! Also a big thanks to a few of the co-writers on these songs. @bwhytecomedy who helped us write “Nothing Gonna Stop” “Love Me Like Hell” and “Built That Way.” @stevedeanmusic who helped us write “Make It Mean Something.” And @ellewine who helped us write “Thinking Of You.” If you like what you hear please help us share! Excited to see you at some of our next shows.”
