Lauren Davidson’s New Song “Halfway to Hungover” Rounds Out EP

Lauren Davidson’s final song of her Love Ain’t Fair EP is here. “Halfway to Hungover” is an edgy breakup song that everyone trying to forget about someone needs to hear.

Lauren Davidson Halfway to Hungover

Written by Davidson and Tommy Cole, “Halfway to Hungover” opens with a fierce guitar chord that sets the rocker tone for the whole song. Throughout the track, the singer-songwriter sticks to who she is, a talented artist who continues to put her own spin on country music.

Breakups are hard. And while there’s no easy way to get over someone, our Swag Spotlight Alum reminds us that alcohol can certainly help. The song takes place at a bar, a setting where we can’t wait to be able to fully enjoy again, where the heartbroken subject sits down ready to forget about their ex by taking a few shots. By the end of the track, we are reminded that while it is not an easy thing to do and may take some time, it is possible to get over the person who broke our heart.

“Halfway to hungover / Giving me that feeling that I still got inside/ Not drunk but I ain’t sober / Betting that I’m getting over you tonight / Almost there with the hurt and the burn go down smooth / Halfway to hungover and hardly over you.”

The New Jersey native began releasing bits of her EP on Valentine’s Day, with the title track “Love Ain’t Fair”. The five-song project is a must listen. This Saturday Davidson will be virtually performing on Facebook Live for Urban Country Jam Crowdfunded Live Stream Addition. She will be joined by Brandon Ray and Nick Hickman. Lauren Davidson Releases Empowering Track “Find Me”

Lauren Davidson Find Me

Lauren Davidson is not a newcomer to NYCountry Swag. She is a local New York City country music artist and was featured as a Swag Spotlight artist back in 2018. Through the years she has opened for countless artists such as LOCASH, Old Dominion, Justin Moore, and more.

The songstress recently released an uplifting single “Compass” and is now back with empowering new single “Find Me.” It’s a self discovery track, a journey of finding one’s self after a relationship. This song validates Davidson’s strength after a relationship with her strong vocal capabilities. It’s a girl power anthem filled with upbeat melodies and enchanting chordal progressions. She sings: “When I tell her what you did she said, “Forget him, it’s his loss” // So I bought another round, bartender pours one shot // Now I’m drinking all alone to someone that I forgot // Didn’t know I was so far gone // ‘Til you were gone and out of scene // Who knew all I’d need was losing you to… Find me”

“Find Me” was inspired about finding myself after a relationship,” said Lauren in a press release. “We all make sacrifices for the ones we love and when that ends it’s really empowering to get reacquainted with yourself and your needs and what you really want.”

The singer + songwriter shared her excitement as well as her thank you’s in her recent Instagram post, “I remember it like it was yesterday – the feeling I had after writing this song with @tommycolecountry – to the first demo with @cristiancamilocastro & watching this baby come to life in the studio with @davericcomusic – I hope you feel some of that magic when you listen !! Special thanks to the team: @bartmigal, @dave_browning_producer, @jrvisions #teamLD #findme #loveaintfairEP”

Lauren Davidson Lets Love Lead the Way in “Compass”

Lauren Davidson Compass

Lauren Davidson is one of country music’s newest frontwomen full of spunk and femininity. Back in January of 2018, Davidson was featured as one of our first local New York country artist Swag Spotlights. She disclosed her influences growing up, her childhood theatre productions, her move to Manhattan, and contemplating her move to Nashville. Today, she is back with “Compass;” the second single off of the Love Ain’t Fair EP. “Compass” is brimmed with confidence and powerhouse vocals.

“Compass,” co-produced with Dave Ricco and Cristian Castro, is an upbeat, guitar-driven story of confidence fighting for love.  She sings: “If we let love be our compass // Even in our roughest // Moments if we trust it, it’ll get us through // I ain’t scared of nothing // Let the storm start coming // and if the weights so heavy it’s enough to sink this ship // I’ll go down with it.”

Stated in a press release, Davidson shared, “I am so excited to get this second single off the Love Ain’t Fair EP out to you. We released the first single the title track – Love Aint Fair on Valentine’s Day and Compass is part 2 of 5 songs that I have co-produced with Dave Ricco and Cristian Castro which is a first for me. This song is really different for me story-wise than anything I have ever written and released before. Relationships are hard and anything but easy and that’s where this song comes from. It’s about wanting to fight for love when things are tough no matter what the obstacles are – let love be your compass and guide the way.”

Earlier this year, Davidson started Urban Country Jam, an event that highlights the rising country talent coming out of the tristate area. We are looking forward to celebrating the next Urban Country Jam once live music resumes.

Swag Session Featuring Madison Kozak

One of the artists we are most excited about is Madison Kozak. Back in May, we chose her song “Graduation Day” as one of our Monthly Picks that we had on repeat and ever since then, we have loved watching her release great song after great song and came to find out in July that she was the flagship artist for Songs & Daughters, a female-driven record label in partnership with Big Loud Records and the label president is one of our Women of the Month, Nicolle Galyon.

During our Swag Session, Kozak performs “OMG ILY” her most recent release that will have you singing along almost immediately, and her first single to country radio, “First Last Name”. Watch the full performance and interview below.

Swag Session Featuring Gone West

Gone West, a country band comprised of Colbie Caillat, Justin Young, Jason Reeves, and Nelly Joy stopped by NYCountry Swag to perform two songs, including their debut radio single “What Could’ve Been”. They told us during our interview about how they all hail from states in the West, including Iowa, Texas, California, and Hawaii. They opened up their Swag Session with “Gone West”, which was written by each of the members about where they travel if they aren’t in their current home of Tennessee.

They also told us how their New York City crowd back in May helped them choose their debut single simply by their reaction to the latest song they had written. Watch the full Swag Session below.

Lauren Davidson Releases Optimistic “Soaking Up Every Second”

Swag Spotlight alum and local artist, Lauren Davidson, is back with a new single, “Soaking Up Every Second”, a positive anthem to live life to the fullest, never letting a single moment pass you by.

Written by Davidson and Adam McDonough “Soaking Up Every Second” starts with guitar and drums to a tune that will easily have you on your feet in no time. The New Jersey native quickly joins in with her astounding vocals, once again showing off what vast range she has. While the track is upbeat and fun, it shares a powerful message.   It reminds us that we shouldn’t wish our lives away by continuously counting down the days until the next big thing. Instead, we should be enjoying every second of the journey we are currently on, no matter where it may take us.

“I’ve been waiting at the station / But when the train comes I ain’t gonna take it / Life is rolling set in motion / But I’m gonna stop here in my tracks / I won’t wish away my life, waste away my time / I just want to make the most of where I’m headed /  I’m soaking up every second”

This is the second single released by Davidson this year, “Live Laugh Love” was released in May. While “Soaking Up Every Second” has a different tune from the rock-country anthem, they both share the similarity of showing off the singer-songwriter’s talent to cowrite powerful music.

Lauren Davidson Releases “Live Laugh Love”

Lauren Davidson Live Laugh Love

We are all familiar with the quote “Live, Laugh, Love,” but rising country singer Lauren Davidson gives the saying a whole new meaning. Davidson’s first track of 2019 is one you’ll be listening to all summer long.

“Live Laugh Love” is written by Davidson, Jason Harmor and Cristian Castro. The song is not what we are used to hearing from the singer. Her EP “Ballads“ is filled with slower tracks that showcase Davidson’s range, while this track shows the artist’s edgier side as it’s a mix of rock and roll, pop, and country.

The song is completely relatable for anyone who has gone through or going through a breakup and is finally ready to step out and find someone new. Grabbing their girls and heading out for a fun night. We can totally see this one as a perfect pre-game song or blasting it on your way out.

“I’m gonna live, laugh, love, / Get all dolled up / Gonna paint this town red with my lipstick tonight / Ain’t gonna shoot them down / Gonna make my rounds / Tossin’ some back with every guy in sight / I’m gonna live, laugh, love, / And leave ya.”

The singer-songwriter is a Swag Spotlight alum, read her story here and check out our Swag Session with Davidson from last summer below.

To keep up with Davidson follower her on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

“Live Laugh Love” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music here on our ‘New Country Music’ playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.
