LAKEVIEW: ‘Small Town Famous’ – EP Review

LAKEVIEW’s debut EP, SMALL TOWN FAMOUS is available now, June 25th, on all streaming platforms now. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new music.

For the last year and a half, we have been loving everything the duo LAKEVIEW has to offer. The singer-songwriters showcase their undeniable charm and talent in each and every song they release. Today LAKEVIEW’s Jesse Denaro and Luke Healy officially dropped their debut EP project, perfectly titled SMALL TOWN FAMOUS.

In just five songs the men manage to share exactly who they are as artists, heavily leaning into their rock influences on the tracks. Every song off the record was co-written and co-produced by the pair. The project kicks off with their party-ready jam, “Poor Me.” The song begins slow but steadily transitions into an epic melody. The track also boasts the record’s title in a lyric.

“Take one down, pass it around // ‘Cause damn we need another round // Drinks on ice and the Friday night lights // The boys and me we shut it down // We say hey yeah, living like we’re small town famous // Out here we just take one down, pass it around // Oh poor me, pour me up another round”

The record transitions into another high-energy song “Hits Different.” Fans really hear the country come out in this song, and we’re sure it’s going to be a crowd favorite at live shows. The song is a tribute to country living.

Another fan-favorite is of course, their song “She Drove Me To The Bar.” Although it is a song about drinking to get over heartbreak, the men somehow manage to bring a unique perspective to the lyrics. The clever wordplay is enough to make us fall in love with the tune.

“‘Cause I swear she’s messin’ with my head // Turnin’ every single street light red // But when I see that neon sign // I know I’ll be alright // I’m going to the bar tonight”

The EP also includes two brand new tracks, “Do It All Again” and “Drink With My Friends.” The former is a nostalgic song you’re going to want to groove to. When the chorus hits, it feels reminiscent of Florida Georgia Line’s sound in the best way. Similarly, “Drink With My Friends” makes you feel nostalgic for simpler times. The song has summer written all over it even though the lyrical content starts off more melancholy in the beginning. We cannot wait to blast this one through the speakers!

Overall, LAKEVIEW’s debut project is super solid! Every single song makes you want to hear more from the singers. We’re excited to see what comes down the pipeline next for the duo.

We love championing new artists on the country music scene and rising duo, LAKEVIEW, are definitely a pair to watch. Comprised of friends Jesse Denaro and Luke Healy, the two are some of our favorites right now. After releasing their songs, “Poor Me” and “She Drove Me To The Bar,” we fell in love with their clever lyrics and fresh new sound. Today the duo released their brand new song and music video for “Message in a Bottle.”

Co-written by the duo, “Message in a Bottle” continues to prove that Denaro and Healy are not only great vocalists but incredible lyricists. The song embodies how it feels to be going through heartbreak, and relying a little bit too much on alcohol as a healer. Similar to “She Drove Me To The Bar,” LAKEVIEW relies on figurative language using the age-old adage of a message in a bottle to captivate something new and fresh.

“Drinkin’ to all that it was / I’m still nursing this bourbon to the memory of us / Baby if I’m being honest / Heartbreak’s hard to swallow”

Of course, the music video only amplifies the message of the track. With similar vibes to Florida Georgia Line, LAKEVIEW manages to create a new story within the universal feeling of heartbreak. The music video shows the duo struggling in their own rights, as they reflect on the relationship. The singer’s lament about the old days, wanting to talk to an ex, and how hard heartbreak truly is. It seems that they have first-hand experience with dealing with all they sing about.

We cannot wait to see what LAKEVIEW has coming down the pipeline next. We are true believers in their talent, and look forward to continuing to support their artistry.

LAKEVIEW Drops Clever Track “She Drove Me To The Bar”

Lakeview She Drove Me To the Bar

We consider ourselves at NYCountry Swag to have our finger on the pulse of new music and new talent in the industry. LAKEVIEW, a duo comprised of Jesse Denaro and Luke Healy are another act that we believe has a big career ahead of them. We recently caught up with them for our Swag Spotlight feature, and now we are introducing fans to their brand new song, “She Drove Me To the Bar.”

The Nashville transplants wrote and ultimately recorded the track with Dave Thomson. Although it is a song about drinking to get over heartbreak, the men somehow manage to bring a unique perspective to the lyrics. The title itself is a clever play on words, using figurative language, rather than literal language. In other words, someone’s actions made them want to go to the bar. The men sing the catchy lyric, “She ain’t even in the car, but she drove me to the bar” hooking fans almost instantly.

With the upcoming music video, the men hope to showcase the song through a different lens. “As things unfold this year with the tornado and the Coronavirus, our friend at The Crying Wolf bar was impacted not only financially, but our friend Andrew, some of the people that worked in his bar tragically died in the tornadoes,” they shared with us, “We wanted to show support for tour friends and a city that has welcomed us without asking any questions.”

The trajectory of the music video took a turn, and the men of LAKEVIEW utilized their platform for those affected in Nashville to talk and share about their experiences and how we can all help. “It is going to be a cool opportunity to showcase how these local business owners work so hard to support their communities.”

Check back next week for the official music video.

Who Is LAKEVIEW? The Story Behind Her Journey to Country Music

Who is LAKEVIEW? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about her journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

Lakeview

The Beginning:

Back in February, we were sent a music video from a brand new duo called LAKEVIEW and we were instantly hooked on their fresh sound and cool, hardworking demeanor. Jesse Denaro and Luke Healy grew up just outside of New York City and Pittsburgh respectively and bring their northern influences to Music City. Both Jesse and Luke discussed their paths to music, crediting classic country music such as Don Williams, Randy Travis as well as worship music as what was playing when they were young. Jesse’s parents were both musicians, his dad a drummer, and his mother a piano teacher and worship leader while Luke recalls picking up his father’s guitar at the tender age of 5 years old. “This is the only thing I am good at and it is the only thing that makes me feel, deep down intrinsically this is something that I want to do, it’s always been a part of my DNA,” Jesse explains. While Luke tells us “I don’t settle easily, I need to have something to look forward to and I always looked forward to playing music.”

The Turning Point:

The duo met while touring in two different metal bands ten years ago and eventually lived together in Pittsburgh, worked two different jobs together, and found themselves coming home after working their second job and started writing music together. “The reason we started writing songs together is that we were sick of hearing the same songs on the radio and a lot of it seems boring,” they tell us. “We wrote what we would want to hear on the radio. There are a lot of guys out there that we look up to, FGL, Jordan Davis, Chris Lane, they create their own lane and do it really well and we pull a lot of inspiration from them, they have helped expand the genre. We love the idea of pushing it as far as we can get, because why not.”

After friends had sent their demos to the team at Photo Finish Records and they showed interest, Jesse and Luke decided to pursue a career in country music, signing a record deal and making the move to Nashville where they have lived for a little over a year. Working hard and tirelessly to make sure you achieve their musical dreams is something this duo is proud of. They will never take for granted a single opportunity that they are granted because they have been hustling in this business for years. “Every song we write, we take very, very serious. We are making it happen because we love it and we wouldn’t rather be doing anything else,” they explain.

Today:

LAKEVIEW has released three tracks so far in 2020, “Poor Me”, “Eyes Closed”, and most recently “Rain Down”. Their authentic approach to blending genres and melding their own unique sound has grabbed the attention of fans in country music as well as fans who have followed them from their previous musical endeavors. They write and produce music that feels genuine to what they would want to be hearing on country radio and look forward to releasing even more music before 2020 is through.
