Keith Urban Returns to Brooklyn for ‘Graffiti U’ Tour

As the ‘Graffiti U’ tour comes to an end, New Yorkers were once again lucky enough to have 4-time Grammy award winner, Keith Urban, return to Brooklyn at the Barclays Center this past Saturday, October 27. This time around he shared the stage with one of his biggest fans and country-pop princess, Kelsea Ballerini.

Keith Urban Kelsea Ballerini Brooklyn

Kicking off the night Ballerini, opened the show with the title track from her sophomore album, “Unapologetically.” This was only the beginning of her 45-minute set featuring all her hit singles over the years, along with some fan favorites. One of her jobs of the night was to get everyone warmed up for Urban and that is exactly what she did. Before singing her hit song “Legends,” she spoke to the crowd telling everyone, “You know I put this next song out around this time last year and just to see the way you let it into your hearts, your lives, and your radios, it’s really changed the entire meaning of the song for me. Since I wrote it a couple of years ago, I learned that the word legend can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people but tonight I just want to dedicate this song to you, for changing my life in such a beautiful way, you’re the legends!” As she belted out the lyrics with everything she had, the crowd softly sang along, showing how meaningful this song really is to her.

As the night went on, Ballerini mentioned to the crowd, “You know I got to play New York quite a few times but this is the biggest room I ever got to play in New York! So thank you, Mr. Urban! So I’m very, very excited to be here tonight!” Throughout her set, Ballerini sang her singles, “Love Me Like You Mean It”, “Dibs”, “Yeah Boy”, “I Hate Love Songs”, and her newest single, “Miss Me More.”

That wasn’t all for the country-pop singer, she covered one of her favorite songs to ever be written, “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac, performing a beautiful rendition of the song, which is also featured on her new deluxe version of her latest album. Though EDM-Pop duo The Chainsmokers were not there to join her on stage, she performed their duet “This Feeling” for the Brooklyn crowd. As her set was coming to an end, she closed it out with the audience singing along to her hit song, “Peter Pan.”

Keith Urban Kelsea Ballerini Brooklyn

Next up was the headliner himself, Keith Urban. As he took his rightful spot in the middle of the stage, the crowd went wild, while he went straight into playing his songs, “Never Comin Down,” his number 1 hits, “Days Go By” and “Coming Home” which features singer-songwriter, Julia Michaels. After getting the night started, he said to the crowd, “We made it back! Are you guys doing good tonight? Amazing! Three songs in and you guys are singing at the top of your lungs, this is going to be a good night tonight!”

If you have ever experienced a Keith Urban show, you know he loves interacting with the crowd as much as possible and Saturday night was no exception. Before the night went any further, Urban took the time to read everyone’s signs in the crowd, even those at the very top of the arena with the help of his binoculars and a spotlight. During this part of the show he also brings up a lucky fan to the stage and this time it was a girl named Emily, who had the honor of singing part of “Stupid Boy” with him. (Check out our exclusive video from the special moment here) Before continuing his set, he mentioned, “Brooklyn we are in for a long night tonight, heads up! If you want to sing and dance and stand on chairs and completely annoy the people around you this is your night to do it! Be free and have a good time!” This is exactly what everyone did as he performed a two and a half hour set of his hits and fan favorites.

Keith Urban Kelsea Ballerini Brooklyn

Throughout his set he performed his songs, “Female,” “Blue Ain’t Your Color,“ “Long Hot Summer,” “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16,” “Somebody Like You” and “Gone Tomorrow (Here Today).” Urban, never misses a beat with his performances, all while showing off his incredible guitar solos. That wasn’t all for country superstar, his show was packed with girl power, singing his hits, “Drop Top” featuring Kassi Ashton and “The Fighter” featuring Carrie Underwood. Ballerini also returned to the stage to sing Urban’s duet “We Were Us,” (Check out our exclusive video here) and if that wasn’t enough he brought out an American roots rock band from Atlanta, Georgia called Larkin Poe. Before bringing the duo out, he introduced the two sisters, Megan and Rebecca Lovell to the audience, mentioning actor Russell Crowe told him to check them out. They shared the stage with Urban for two songs, showcasing their powerful vocals as well as their incredible mandolin and slide electric playing. At one point, Megan, on slide electric went head to head with Urban on the guitar, turning it into an epic jam session.

As the night was coming to an end, Urban went through the crowd giving everyone hugs and high fives while making his way to his second stage to perform for the back of the arena. Following the tradition of his shows, Urban gave one lucky fan in the crowd the guitar right off his back, before making his way back to the main stage. He finished off his set with his hit “Wasted Time.” But that wasn’t the end, Urban performed a two-song encore saying, “Brooklyn you still here? Dang, so you don’t want to go home? Ok firstly thank you so much for still being here, I appreciate that, more than you know…It takes a lot to get here so every single one of you I wanna say thank you for choosing to come and see the concert tonight!” He ended the night with his third single off his very first number one record, “But For The Grace Of God” and “Horses”. At the end thanking the crowd for coming out once again, leaving everyone wanting more.

Jillian Jacqueline’s Aching “If I Were You” Video

Jillian Jacqueline, Big Loud Records latest rising star, is bringing her honest track “If I Were You”, featuring Keith Urban, to life today with a brand new music video. The single details the emotional conflict following a breakup and the attempt to move on. Jacqueline is continuing to take the music scene by storm with her effortlessly raw vocals and new-school, no-holds-barred storytelling.

“Hate how he’s still got me / Blame it on bad timing / You shouldn’t come so close / When you’re looking at me like that,”  sings Jacqueline and Urban in harmony.  Directed by Patrick Tracy, the clip features Jacqueline looking effortlessly chic in a room of retro furniture, restlessly pacing in front of a signature lightning bolt. The added film-type filter on the video gives it that extra vibey look.

Spotlighting the track and “up-and-coming Jacqueline holding her own in the presence of a chart-topping superstar,” Rolling Stone named “If I Were You” one of the “10 Best Country and Americana Songs of the Week.”  Buzz continues to build around the heartbreak tune and Jacqueline, who was not only named NYCountry Swag’s 18 Artists to Watch in 2018 back in January but was also one of our first Swag Spotlights.

Surpassing one million overall streams, “If I Were You” is the first look at Jacqueline’s forthcoming EP SIDE B. The follow-up to 2017’s SIDE A will also feature the just-released song “Sad Girls” and four additional new tracks. Taking her career to the next level with SIDE B, Jacqueline is already on the map as a Billboard Chartbreaker, one of CMT’s Next Women of Country and “18 for 2018”, and Vevo’s first-ever Country Discover Artist to Watch. She is also being deemed one of the genre’s most promising new talents by Pandora, Amazon Music, Rolling Stone, AXS, Sounds Like Nashville, Whiskey Riff and more.

Jacqueline hits the road as a special guest on Kip Moore’s AFTER THE SUNBURN TOUR beginning September 28 in Birmingham, AL. You can get tickets here on her website and follow her on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

NYCS First Impression: Trent Harmon Releases Debut Album ‘You Got ‘Em All’

Trent Harmon

Singer-songwriter, American Idol winner, and one of our 2017 Artists to Watch, Trent Harmon has taken two years to write, focus on his sound and is releasing his debut album to all retailers today.  You Got ‘Em All features 11 tracks, 8 of which Harmon co-wrote including a song written by Chris Stapleton and one by Keith Urban. The project is deeply personal, including songs about heartbreak, falling in love quickly and even a song written for his grandmas, who are both named Betty.

The lyrics of each song, are a tribute to the different key players in Harmon’s life, including his most recent major breakup, chronicled in his current single and title track of the album.  “You Got ‘Em All” was written in 45 minutes with Jordan Minton and Justin Ebach after Harmon got a phone call that his longtime girlfriend was moving to Thailand to follow her dreams.  The track, which opens the album, starts quietly with haunting notes on a piano and allows the pain and sincerity seep through the simple production. Other standouts on the record include “My Money’s On You”, an uplifting, up-tempo song about believing in someone wholeheartedly as well as his ethereal cover of Sia’s “Chandelier” which helped him take the title home on American Idol back in 2016.

Sonically, Harmon blends his Mississippi roots with modern country and you’ll even hear some hints of soul, especially on “Falling” the Urban co-write.   His incredible range carries the entire record, as he slides effortlessly into an airy falsetto that will captivate the listener. Between the combination of Harmon’s rich, vocal prowess with brilliant songwriting, You Got ‘Em All will thrill his current fans and certainly work to build a greater fan base within the country music genre.  Grab your copy of You Got ‘Em All on iTunes or take a listen below and let us know your favorite song in the comments.

NYCS First Impression: Keith Urban ‘Graffiti U’

Keith Urban has been making his mark on the country music genre for the past two decades, always finding ways to reinvent his sound while staying relevant to the changes in the business and the fluidity of music itself.  In his latest release, Graffiti U certainly stays current while still highlighting Urban’s signature guitar skills as well as his ability to keep his fans engaged and singing along.

The project begins with his duet “Coming Home” written by Urban with pop star Julia Michaels, famed songwriters Nicolle Galyon and J.R Rotem.  While Galyon and Urban bring their country flair, Michaels and Rotem who have thrived in the pop and r&b worlds bring a progressive feel to the song which opens with Merle Haggard’s “Mama Tried”.  Michaels is also a co-writer on three other songs on the project, “Way Too Long”, “Parallel Line”, and “Gemini”.

The opening track sets the tone for the rest of the album, classic country Urban vocals with hints of pop, reggae, and r&b. Furthering his crossover power, Urban cut a few outside tracks, among those”Parallel Line” which was written by Ed Sheeran, Benjamin Levin, Johnny McDaid, Julia Michaels, Amy Wadge and produced by Sheeran and “Horses” which was written by Matt Rad, MoZella, Jamie Scott who have all had major success in the pop world.

A standout on the record is when Urban goes back to his country roots for “Texas Time”.  The intro has Urban fiddling with his guitar and saying “You know what we need right now, we need a song about Texas.”  Another stand out is “Drop Top” which leans away from the country genre sonically and has the line “She’s going to Coachella with feathers in her hair” but features the epic pipes of Kassi Ashton on the chorus and simply put is the perfect summer, roll your windows down anthem.

Urban was most recently nominated for ACM Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year for “Female” and won for Vocal Event of hte Year for “The Fighter” which featured Carrie Underwood.  “Female” which is one of the slower songs on Graffiti U takes a stab at the #MeToo movement, empowering women.

Keith Urban

The Graffiti U Tour is hitting 58 cities across the country and kicks off June 15th at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in St. Louis, Missouri. Kelsea Ballerini is the supporting act for all tour dates.  The tour stops at Barclays Center on October 27th. For all tour dates and more info head to www.keithurban.net.
