[Listen] Jill and Kate Are “Craving California”

Craving California

Professional lyricists, Jill and Kate are two of the most underrated singer-songwriters in the industry. The female duo are as humble as they are talented, and continue to release tunes that tug at our heartstrings, including their song “Nashville,” one of our favorites. Today, their new track “Craving California” made its debut.

For those who may not know, the songstresses use to live in California, but the track goes beyond craving the state and its sunshine. The two lament about missing a past relationship, and how all the spots in California remind them of that time in their lives. It’s interesting how we can all relate to a place reminding us of a person or an experience that we once had.

“I’m craving California and I don’t know why / Maybe I miss seeing you in that light / Even on the day that we said goodbye / There were blue skies / And Tennessee just ain’t the same / There’s no ocean here, just a lot of rain / And a lonely street called Broadway / Where the sad songs are playing all day / And I’m craving California / I’m craving California.”

Just before its release, Jill and Kate took to Instagram to share this sentiment under a picture of the cover art for the new single: “Songs take us back. Isn’t it funny how a place can cause you to miss someone because you have so many memories with them? The person and the place are tied together. Our new song, ‘Craving California,’ is a true story about leaving someone in California and feeling very far away.” The duo creates songs that connect us all, and that’s what makes them such powerful songwriters.

While you’re discovering more songs from the ladies, make sure to check out their podcast ‘Girls Just Pod To Have Fun’ and do not forget to check out the episode NY Country Swag’s own Christina Bosch and Stephanie Wagner were featured in.

Jill And Kate Release A Fun New Single Titled “Just Kiss Me”

Just kiss Me Jill and Kate

Nashville-based duo Jill and Kate are through with messing around. On their new single, “Just Kiss Me,” the pair is tired of a wishy-washy dude and are ready to take things out of the friend zone with one simple action: a kiss.

We’ve all been there, which makes the fun up-tempo track all the better. Here, they sing about a guy that’s always the go-to call or last drink, “dancing around” the obvious relationship that “everybody else knows [it] should be happening.” For some reason, they’re a simple lip lock away from the inevitable and the song invites the nervous (or oblivious) man to make his move.

“But you never make a move/ What you think you’re gonna lose?/ There’s really not much that you have to do/ Just kiss me/ How many signs do you need to see, see, see?/ Just kiss me/ Not like the world’s gonna end/ If you just lean in/ Kiss me/ Just kiss me.”

It’s bound to happen, so the girls are willing to wait it out. “We can wait another night,” They sing here. “But you know it’s gonna happen eventually.”

“Just Kiss Me” is a fun ear-worm of a track that’s sure to have you singing along within the first minute. The track also allows Jill and Kate to continue to show their diversity from previous releases. While “Just Kiss Me” is a pure pop song, previous releases include the country-influenced “Better,” the intensely powerful and personal “Nashville,” a lullabies album and an acoustic cover album that includes new takes on songs from the likes of Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, and Kelly Clarkson. One thing shines through on all of them, however, and that’s their unrivaled harmonies.

“We are SO EXCITED because our new song, ‘Just Kiss Me,’ just released TODAY and we want you to hear it! We’ve never shared this song before with anyone — we wrote it with Ben Goldsmith in Nashville, TN and it was produced by Luke DeJaynes and Seth Earnest. We feel SO LUCKY to work with awesome people who are talented, humble, and an absolute blast,” Jill and Kate said in an email. “This song will make you dance, make you want to roll your windows down…and maybe do a little kissing :)”

The independent singer-songwriters have appeared on a Swag Session and even invited NYCS’s own Stephanie and Christina on their “Girls Just Pod To Have Fun” podcast.

NYCountry Swag Are Guests on Girls Just Pod To Have Fun

Girls Just Pod to Have Fun

Listen Here!

Up and coming female country duo, Jill and Kate, comprised of Jill Pickering and Kate Rapier are a force to be reckoned with. The talented duo are powerhouse singers and songwriters, as well as, co-hosts and creators of a successful podcast called ‘Girls Just Pod to Have Fun.’

At the beginning of the night, Kate explained to the audience more about their inspiration for starting a podcast, “There’s so many times in life where things don’t go the way you planned or you thought you’d be somewhere by now. Or for any myriad of reasons you end up and you’re feeling super depleted. And that’s what we were feeling […] For the last year and a half, we’ve been on this adventure/walkabout, where we started this podcast.”

After hitting it off great with Jill and Kate earlier that day, the women asked New York Country Swag’s own Stephanie Wagner and Christina Bosch to be guests on this episode of ‘Girls Just Pod to Have Fun.’ In the witty and insightful episode, Stephanie and Christina dish about how NY Country Swag started, what motivates them, their struggles, and why they love what they do, with, of course, some talk about the television shows ‘Friends’ and ‘Gilmore Girls’ thrown in there.

When Jill and Kate asked the NY Country Swag ladies about what’s been harder than they thought about starting a business, Stephanie shared some insight into her experience running a business, including peoples’ perception. “But it’s things that you don’t even realize are a struggle. […] We always say- we’ll like have a really cool, awesome opportunity, and people are like “you’re so lucky”. What is luck?! But you have no idea what went on to get that. It’s crazy, we were actually talking about it on the way here because we just set up one of our live sessions with an artist that we’re really really excited about that we can’t say yet […]. I was freaking out but then I was like this is what it all about, this is why I’m doing it. You really need to be passionate about what you do, otherwise, it’s never going to work.

Jill and Kate are clearly passionate about connecting with people throughout all sorts of creative outlets, including their podcast and their music. The night was truly a night to remember for the intimate crowd at Rockwood, as well as for us at New York Country Swag. Jill and Kate are truly unique talents and creatives both as a duo and as individuals. We look forward to continuing to champion their music careers.

Jill And Kate Record Live Podcast Featuring NYCountry Swag & Perform

LISTEN HERE

Up and coming female country duo, Jill and Kate, comprised of Jill Pickering and Kate Rapier are a force to be reckoned with. The talented duo are powerhouse singers and songwriters, as well as, co-hosts and creators of a successful podcast called ‘Girls Just Pod to Have Fun.’ On Friday night, attendees at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City were lucky enough to watch a live podcast taping for their second season, as well as, listen to the ladies perform some of their music.

The podcast is all about what happens when things don’t go according to plan and what keeps you going. It was inspired by Jill and Kate’s experiences, as they were beginning to feel stuck and defeated with their everyday lives in Nashville. They decided to sell all their belongings and go on an adventure of a lifetime, which they refer to as a “walkabout.”

At the beginning of the night, Kate explained to the audience more about their inspiration for starting a podcast, “There’s so many times in life where things don’t go the way you planned or you thought you’d be somewhere by now. Or for any myriad of reasons you end up and you’re feeling super depleted. Jill and Kate

Jill and Kate are clearly passionate about connecting with people throughout all sorts of creative outlets, including their podcast and their music. After the podcast, the songstresses played several songs, mesmerizing fans with their beautiful harmonies, honest and raw lyrics, and down to earth personalities.

The duo began their set, singing their newly released single, “Better.” The jam is all about connections and the power of partnership and community. The talented artists also sang their songs “Skinny Jeans,” “Heart of Stone,” and What Do You Say?” among many others.

Engaging the audience all night long, the singers switched gears, deciding to sing Britney Spears’ song “Baby One More Time,” sharing “This is fun! This is pretty much my dream night- recording a podcast, playing a show. But we’re also going to play some songs that we didn’t write, and we’re going to need your help with this one!”

The ladies also sang their powerful song, “Same Side.” The track speaks to the message that “We need more love to beat the hate,” adding that we need to remember that we’re all on the same side and to work together to promote change and happiness for all. However, the highlight of their performance was when the duo sang their ballad “Nashville.” The track is a deeply personal song, penned by the ladies about needing a break from a place or a person, who is no longer serving you or your soul. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful and emotional, but one of the most well crafted and vocally delivered songs out there.

The night was truly a night to remember for the intimate crowd at Rockwood, as well as for us at New York Country Swag. Jill and Kate are truly unique talents and creatives both as a duo and as individuals. We look forward to continuing to champion their music careers.

Make sure to keep Jill and Kate on your radar! Up and Coming Female Duo Jill and Kate Release “Better”

Jill and Kate Better

Here at NYCountry Swag, we love championing new artists and especially love empowering female artists in the industry. Jill and Kate are a talented female country duo that have been in the industry since 2015, best known as former background singers for superstar, Kelly Clarkson but are just now breaking into the more mainstream music scene. With a successful podcast, ‘Girls Just Pod to Have Fun,’ a creative blog, and an impressive Twitter following, the women are primed for success at anything they set their hearts and minds to.

Their new single, “Better” is an intriguing departure from their last single, “Nashville.” While “Nashville” was a heartbreakingly beautiful ballad, “Better” is a more sassy country song laced with pop influences, showing off another side of the duo’s talents and impressive harmonies. Jill and Kate’s new single encourages partnership and community, which is something they tend to preach via their social media account. The ladies believe that life is “better’ together.

Jill and Kate Better

On their Instagram, Jill and Kate shared a picture of their single’s cover art, captioning it, “Doing life alone is not how we think it’s supposed to be. You guys know we are big on community and connection, and we are so pumped to finally be releasing this song “BETTER” about how life is “BETTER” when we do it together! […] Our hope is it brings you joy, hope, and connection….oh and that you can drive around with your windows down while singing along at the top of your lungs!”

The songstresses definitely succeeded with their expectations for the song. It’s definitely a track with catchy lyrics and an upbeat sound that is sure to make you want to turn up the volume and sing along.

“Do it, do it alone / We could do it together / Don’t you think that would be better / Don’t you think that would be better / We’ll do it, do it alone / We could do it together / Don’t you think that would be better / Don’t you think that would be better / Better than being alone / Better than being alone.”

Stay tuned for our Swag Session with Jill and Kate on Monday! Also, the ladies will be performing tonight at Rockwood Music Hall. Grab your tickets here.
