Jessie James Decker: ‘The Woman I’ve Become’ – EP Review

Jessie James Decker’s major label-debut EP, The Woman I’ve Becomeis out now, October 22nd on all streaming platforms. Check out our full review and listen to the brand new music below.

Jessie James Decker has been a fixture in the music industry, since she was a young girl. After going through a lot of trials and tribulations and three kids later, she is finally emerging as a full-grown badass woman on multiple fronts. After much anticipation, her major-label debut EP, The Woman I’ve Become is finally here.

Decker’s new project features seven perfectly-crafted songs, including two pre-released tunes, “Not In Love With You” and “Should Have Known Better.” The former is a heartbreak tune. Decker pours her heart out, letting fans into the vulnerability and self-reflection that this song emotes. The latter, “Should Have Known Better” exudes the confidence that you eventually regain after finally shedding a past relationship.

“Should have known better than to break my heart // Oh, ain’t it funny? // No, I never looked better and it’s all your fault // Oh, sorry, honey // But it’s over, yeah, I moved on, hallelujah, hallelujah // Should have known better than to break my heart”

JJD continues to dig deep into her vulnerable, yet confident side on the record. “Tell You Enough” is romantic and sensual, a song that is a reminder to your lover how much they are loved by you. Similarly, “Girls Like To Dance” feels hopeful and romantic in its own right.

Arguably the best two songs on the record come back to back, “Dance With Someone Else” and the project’s title-track, “The Women I’ve Become.” The former is heartbreakingly beautiful song about loving someone, but it just not being the right fit. You wish them the best and have nothing negative to say about the time spent together.

“Nobody cheated // nobody lied // this is where the sun sets on us // and leaves me out to dry // this part ain’t easy // it’s hard as hell // but I hope the right song comes along and you dance // with someone else”

The title-track is the most personal on the project. The song appears to be a message to Decker’s father, who was absent in parts of her life. The lyrics touch on her marriage, her children, and the grieving process of not having a present father figure growing up. Although personal, the song is honest and relatable, and shows the influence Nashville has had on the singer over the years.

Despite the vulnerability that Decker shows throughout the record, she makes sure to end the project on a spicy note. “I Need A Man” is the touch of JJD that we are all used to from the old days. The song is sassy and relatable in its own right.

The Woman I’ve Become is our re-introduction to Jessie James Decker. She is a powerhouse vocalist that is sure to continue to be a mainstay in country music. The EP is definitely worth a listen!

Jessie James Decker & The Sisterhood Band Sell Out Beacon Theatre

On a beautiful night in New York City, fans packed out the Beacon Theatre for Jessie James Decker’s sold out show.

Sisterhood Band Jessie James Decker

Tasked with warming up the crowd, the talented ladies of The Sisterhood Band, Alyssa Bonagura and Ruby Stewart, took to the stage first. The sassy duo showed off their spicy personalities, killer harmonies, and unique vocal and fashion styles, throughout their enticing 30-minute set. The ladies were clearly pumped to be playing for such a large crowd, sharing “Jessie James Decker fans are the best,” as the crowd erupted into cheers.

They started off their set, singing songs off their debut EP, Summer Setlist, including “Walk Away” and “13.” Following those songs, the singer-songwriters switched gears, introducing their newest songs that were released earlier this year and thanking fans for coming to see them.

“Guys, we just released new music! Our band is called ‘The Sisterhood Band.’ Thank you for being here a little bit early to see us play. We just released new music, two songs called “Get Up and Go” and a song called “Bullet,” adding, “This next song is called “Get Up and Go, and it’s about getting your car and driving around- It’s like summer song, I was dating a guy, who wouldn’t take me anywhere fun, and I was like ‘screw that,’ so we wrote a song about it.”

The track was just that, a sweet summer anthem, that all the females in the audience seemed to relate to. They went on to show off their harmonies yet again, in their next song, “Tenderize My Heart.” However, the highlight of their set came at the end, as the band sang, “Bullet,” a song they prefaced with “We wake up and we get to do what we love every day. And travel the world like this. And meeting you is the whole reason that we do it.” The ladies closed out their spectacular set with “Half Way,” successfully getting the crowd pumped for the night’s headliner.

After a brief intermission, the star of the night, Jessie James Decker took to the stage, in her sassy printed bodysuit and white booties, immediately singing the first song she ever put out, “Wanted,” followed by “Boys In The Summer.” The energy in the room was electric, as she belted the lyrics to the tracks as everyone in the room sang along with her.

Decker was beaming with excitement and pride, as she addressed the audience for the first time. “This is the biggest room. The most amount of people- I’ve ever sold out a show to. I told them- I told them when they showed me the dates. Just so you know, New York is going to sell out. They looked at me and they go ‘why are you so sure about that?’ Because I know my fans out there, they’re going to sell this out for me, and you guys did. And I’m so grateful,” she exclaimed, just before singing “Girl on the Coast.”

Jessie James Decker

The singer-songwriter’s set was filled with highlights from start to finish. The first highlight came, when she sang her slow-tempo song “Almost Over You,” that she recorded with powerhouse country singer, Randy Houser last year. Decker shared, “It’s one of my absolute favorites. If you know this song, please sing with me.” She slowed it down again with her newest song, “Roots And Wings,” calling it “…the perfect song to release,” and thanking fans for their support, as well as with an incredible rendition of “Shallow” from the film ‘A Star is Born,’ which really showed off her vocal range.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Jessie James Decker show without some sassy moments, filled with sex appeal and confidence. Decker sang her unreleased song “I Need A Man,” in which she shared that a woman can be confident and successful, and still need a man to hold her down. Fans showed their approval for their song, singing and dancing along. She also introduced her ‘Jessie’s Boy Toys’ segment in which she has 10 men from the audience come on stage to dance and as she said, “entertain her girls,” as she sings her sexy song, “Clint Eastwood,” and a cover of Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust.” The winner of the competition, as chosen by the audience, won a free shot.

Decker kept the energy up, bringing back The Sisterhood Band to sing an epic rendition of the iconic Shania Twain song, “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” The ladies gave a whole new life to the song that couldn’t be any more impressive. Decker also sang her jams, “All Filled Up” and “I Look So Good (Without You).”

For her encore, Decker, sang her Lil Nas X cover of the controversial song “Old Town Road,” which New York fans seemed to love. The songstress gave her own flair to the song, even adding her name into a lyric, “I’m going to steal your heart, just like I’m Jessie James.” She ended the night with the fan-favorite song, “Lights Down Low.”

After a two year touring hiatus, Decker proved to New York fans that she’s still got it. Her beautiful voice, incredible talent, and commanding personality proved that she’s a force to be reckoned with in the industry and that there is truly no stopping her. We look forward to more music from the songstress, as we head into the second half of the year.

Jessie James Decker Releases “Roots and Wings” & Kicks Off Tour

Jessie James Decker Roots and Wings

Jessie James Decker celebrated her thirty-first birthday in a big way on Friday, April 12th. She released her first single of 2019, “Roots and Wings”. A little different pace from her 2018 single “Boots” but keeping the 90s Shania Twain vibe, this is one you’ll be singing for a long time.

“This is one of my favorite songs I’ve written and I’m excited to share it with y’all!!”, she shared on her Instagram. The single certainly shows how talented the songstress truly is, showing off her voice and the variety of ranges she can hit. Decker co-wrote the song with Alyssa Bonagura, Dave Pittenger, and Shane Stevens.

“Roots and wings/I’m somewhere in between/Where I’m from and what I dream/What I’ve known and what I’ve seen/No matter where I go/The sky above, the ground below/My heart will have a home/Cause I got these/Roots and wings”

While the entire song is powerful, the chorus is where it gets personal. It hints that Decker has been through a lot but likes where her path has taken her and no matter where her journey continues to take her, she’ll be more than okay. Something we can all relate to.

Thirty-one is off to a good start for the singer-songwriter. Not only did she release her new single, but on Friday she also kicked off her 19-city headliner tour. Starting in Denver and wrapping up in Houston in June, Decker will also be performing and Stagecoach and CMA Fest.

While Decker hasn’t been on the road in two years, she certainly has been more than busy. She welcomed her third child, Forrest Bradley, to the world, wrote a book Just Jessie, My Guide to Love, Life, Family, and Food, which made the New York Times Bestselling List and opened her first brick and mortar store for Kittenish.  Although she has only been thirty-one for a couple of days, it’s going to be a year to remember.

Catch Jessie James Decker when she brings her tour to NYC on May 16th at The Beacon Theatre.

NYCS First Impression: Jessie James Decker ‘On This Holiday’

Jessie James Decker is getting us all into the holiday spirit with her brand new studio Christmas album entitled, On This Holiday. This cheery collection of ten songs features Decker’s renditions of six holiday classics, along with four original Christmas tunes, all co-penned with Daniel Tashian: “Snowlight,” “Wonderful Day,” “Christmas In Cabo” and “Baby! It’s Christmas.” Plus, fans who purchase the album exclusively at Target will receive an eleventh bonus track entitled, “My Favorite Holiday.”

The singer-songwriter put her own personal twists on “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire),” “Santa Baby,” “Do You Hear What I Hear?,” “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” Her distinct vocals belt out each tune with such grace.

The two standouts of these classic covers have to be “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” Decker opted for a bit more of an upbeat tune with both of these songs, while the originals carry on a slower tempo. Each of them has a “sway to the beat” element.

“Snowlight” is a fun song about dancing in the snow with her husband. Decker sings in the chorus,
“Just meet me in the snowlight / Come on and dance with me tonight / The streets are shining so bright / Don’t you love the feeling in the snowlight”.

“Wonderful Day” tells the story of Decker’s version of the perfect holiday day spent with her husband. She sings in the chorus, “The countdown begins / I can’t imagine it without ya / Ain’t it fun, everybody is feeling the love / It’s a wonderful day / Feeling so good to have you home for the holiday / And I can’t wait to unwrap you / Hey, it’s a wonderful day on this holiday / And I can’t wait to spend it with you”.

“Christmas in Cabo” is an island vibe tune about spending Christmas on the beach in Cabo, rather than in the cold weather. Decker sings in the chorus, “Spending Christmas in Cabo / So long Chicago / I need sun rays on this holiday / Taking shots of tequila / So long, we’ll see ya / Let’s have our fun by the sea, adios”.

“Baby! It’s Christmas” is a cheery jam about the best aspects of Christmas time. Decker sings,  “It’s that time again where we all get to be together / The snow is falling in this frightful weather / And I can’t wait to see all the lights on the tree at night / Baby! It’s Christmas, say yeah”.

“My Favorite Holiday” tells the many reasons why Christmas is Decker’s favorite holiday. She sings in the chorus, “Oh Merry Christmas / Oh you don’t wanna miss this / It’s Santa and his sleigh / It’s Rudolph and his gang / Oh Merry Christmas, it’s my favorite holiday”

To celebrate the album’s release, the country star will be playing a holiday show at City Winery in Nashville, Tennessee on December 5th featuring special surprise guests. Tickets are available here.  On This Holiday is now available everywhere you stream or buy music. Jessie James Decker Surprises Fans with New Single “Boots”

Jessie James Decker, Boots

Jessie James Decker, Boots

After taking some time away from country music to concentrate on her clothing line, hair care line and book, along with taking care of her new baby boy, Jessie James Decker surprised fans with a brand new single, “Boots.”

Earlier this week, Decker subtly teased fans by posting a seven second clip to instagram of her shoot with JustFab for their upcoming collaborative clothing line, captioned, “JJD x @justfabonline …. get ready (ps yes this is a new song. Out soon)” Just hours before the song’s release, Decker officially announced “Boots” by posting a thirty second clip of the single with it’s cover art and caption, “Tonight. new music droppin #boots (this is my new song it’s featured in my new @justfabonline commercial!!!)”

Co-written by Tofer Brown, “Boots” is an upbeat, fun and sassy anthem version of the idiom “walk a mile in their shoes.” Before judging someone, you must understand their experiences, challenges, thought processes, etc. Decker put her own womanly, country twist on it and sings in the chorus:

“Come on, tonight /  I’m daring you to walk a mile in my boots / Bring it on, just try / I bet you couldn’t even strap ‘em up on right / You got your little friends / I hear ‘em talkin’ / But talking ain’t the same as walking a mile in my boots so come on”

In addition to the single, Decker wrote a new book titled “Just Jessie”, due out on October 2nd. It is a self-written guide to love, life, family and food. To celebrate the book’s release, the singer-songwriter will be going on a four-city book signing tour which will stop in Brooklyn at The BookMark Shoppe on October 3rd at 7pm. You can pre-order the book here.

“Boots” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music.
