The Best Deep Cuts from Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood has been our country queen for over fifteen years now. She truly can do no wrong! From singing to performing to inspiring other women and being a badass entrepreneur, Carrie is a superstar in everything she does. As we memorize all the lyrics to every single song off her newest Christmas record My Gift, we wanted to take a look back at some of our favorite deep cuts by Underwood over the years.

“Get Out of This Town” – Carnival Ride

“Got it all figured out inside of my head / There’s a bag packed up at the foot of my bed / You say the word, baby I’m all set”

Underwood’s 2007 Carnival Ride is full of great songs, but “Get Out of This Town” is one of the hidden gems. The track is spunky, honest, and romantic, all things that the songstress does impeccably.

“Good in Goodbye” – Blown Away

“Sometimes life leads you down a different road / When you’re holding on to someone that you gotta let go / Someday you’ll see the reason why / Sometimes, yeah sometimes, there’s good in goodbye”

The fact that this song didn’t get the recognition it deserves is almost a crime. The song is painfully impactful and beautifully vocalized. Underwood’s vocals soar on this heartbreakingly beautiful and reflective break-up song.

“I Ain’t in Checotah Anymore” – Some Hearts

“My hotel in Manhattan / Holds more people than our town / And what I just paid for dinner / Would be a down payment on a house”

This sassy and personal tune shows Underwood’s humble side amidst a sea of glamour and success. The Oklahoma-native shares her small-town roots on this track, something that is both appealing and relatable. It is also super catchy!

“Starts With Goodbye” – Some Hearts

“I guess It’s gonna break me down / Like falling’ when I’m tryin’ to fly / It’s sad but sometimes / Moving on with the rest of your life / Starts with goodbye”

Leave it to Carrie to tug at our heartstrings, while giving us a dose of reality that we all need sometimes. “Starts With Goodbye” is the message we all need when we are going through hard times with love. From her debut record Some Hearts, the songs is still as impactful as it was back then.

“Wine After Whiskey” – Blown Away

“Now everything’s after you / Is like having Wine after whiskey / It went from do anything for you babe / To you don’t even miss me”

This song is truly my all-time favorite Underwood song. She eloquently sings about the pain that is associated with losing someone you know. Off her record Blown Away, “Wine After Whiskey” has truly emerged as a fan-favorite, and it is easy to see why.

“Unapologize” – Play On

“I unapologize / I meant every word / Won’t take back the way I feel about you / Can’t unsay what you heard / ‘Cause you heard me right”

This song is the perfect reminder to speak your truth even if your voice shakes. This anthem for love is the perfect song to listen to when you are trying to feel inspired or hopeful.

“I Know You Won’t” – Carnival Ride

“You say you’ll call / but I know you / you say you’re coming home / but I know you won’t”

There’s a reason this ballad still appears on live setlists more than 10 years after the release of Carnival Ride. The fan-favorite has gut-wrenching lyrics, a haunting melody, and arguably some of Carrie’s best vocals to date.

“Choctaw County Affair” – Storyteller

“Well, life’s been kind of trippy down here in Mississippi / Since Cassie O’Grady disappeared / And me and my Bob Shaver been in all the newspapers / Every day for naught on a year / They say we got tangled in a love triangle / A fatal game of truth or dare / But the truth remains a mystery and now it’s ancient history / It’s a Choctaw County affair”

The country queen is known for telling stories in her song, but she’s never done it quite like in Choctaw County Affair. The Bonnie and Clyde-esque track is pure country, complete with twangy instrumentation, gritty production, and a whole lot of sass.

“Spinning Bottles” – Cry Pretty

“Round and around and around they go / Will this end? Nobody knows / Can’t live like this anymore / Spinnin’ rooms, spinnin’ wheels, spinnin’ out of control / Spinnin’ bottles”

It’s hard to talk about substance abuse in a way that feels both truthful and tasteful but this song makes it happen. The powerful lyrics will resonate with anyone who has loved someone battling addiction and is one of the rawest songs in Carrie’s entire collection.

The Best Deep Cuts from Morgan Wallen

We have said it before, but we will say it again, Morgan Wallen is the next superstar in the making in country music. He has honed his talent over the last couple of years and grown an absolute diehard fanbase. As we anticipate his sophomore record, we thought it would be fun to reflect on some of our favorite deep cuts from the singer-songwriter. Check out the list below.

“Talkin’ Tennessee”

“You say those street lights only ever let you see the skyline / It’s been a long time / Since the Milky Way, Jupiter and Venus took your breath away / Yeah like you’re taking mine”

This song will make you swoon. The love song is magical and mesmerizing, and it feels exactly like a Morgan Wallen song should feel. It is one of our favorites off his debut record If I Know Me.

“If I Know Me”

“If I know me, I’ll have you hopping up in my passenger seat / Then I take you home you ain’t gonna wanna leave”

The title track is one of the best on the whole record, which happens to be full of incredible songs. “If I Know Me” is one of those songs that should have been a single.

“Cover Me Up” (cover)

“So cover me up and know you’re enough / To use me for good”

A few months ago, Wallen covered Jason Isbell’s song “Cover Me Up,” and fans went crazy. His cover is beautiful and authentic. Of course, the music video, which is actually a mini-movie in a way, is also incredible.

“Had Me by Halftime”

“Watchin’ you girl like it’s gonna be a good fall / You would’ve though that post-game kiss would’ve made me wanna make you mine / But you had me by halftime”

It is football season, and you should have this song on your playlist! The picturesque love song is the perfect anthemic song for a fall romance.

“Redneck Love Song”

“I’m a man of few words but baby here it goes / My neck is red, my collar’s blue / And I love you”

The title says it all. Although a love song, the lyrics are pure genius. “Redneck Love Song” can only be a country song, and we love that about this track.

“American Nights”

“American nights, wanted alive / Cuttin’ down Main street in the dark / Muscle shoals, muscle cars / Earnin’ our stripes underneath these stars”

This might be one of our most surprising picks. This song is off one of Wallen’s projects prior to his record deal. The song, although not as fine-tuned, is a perfect example of what the singer is great at. It’s also catchy as can be.

The Best Deep Cuts from Luke Combs

Luke Combs has become a household name, rising to superstardom in just a few short years in the mainstream country music industry. Throughout his blossoming career, he has secured multi-platinum albums, awards, and of course, nine consecutive number-one singles. Combs’ truly doesn’t have a bad song! We thought it would be fun to look beyond the hits and reminisce on some of our favorite deep cuts from the singer-songwriter’s projects. Check out the list below.

 “This One’s For You”

“I told you all I’d write you a song / Pour my heart in the melody / To keep you singin’ along”

It is hard to believe that this title track off his debut record wasn’t a single! The song is a beautiful thank you letter to all that have helped him get to this point in his life. The fact that Combs took the time to create something so sentimental and touching for his loved ones, just shows how humble (and talented) he truly is.

“Must’ve Never Met You”

“I guess whoever said that grass is greener / Musta never seen the other side / What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger / Sure sounds like a lie”

This heartbreaking break-up song is truth-telling to its finest. He acknowledges that all the age-old adages about break-ups are false, admitting that the dissolution of a relationship that meant this much to him is as hard as can be. This song is a gem on his debut record!

“What You See Is What You Get”

“I’m a midnighting, backsliding / Getaway-car-driving / Running away with your heart / I guess be careful what you wish for, is all I meant when I said / What you see is what you get”

His relatable every-man mentality is fully present on the title track of his sophomore record. The no bull-shit song is exactly what we have come to love and expect from this bonafide superstar.

“I Got Away With You”

“Now the Mona Lisa’s hanging in my house / I bust out of Buckingham with the crown jewels / And I got away with you”

This song proves why Combs is a trailblazer in country music right now. The lyrics are remarkable and charming, showcasing his wit and knack for story-telling. I truly cannot think of another song like this, which makes it unique and enticing, solidifying its spot on this list.

“Refrigerator Door”

“With all those pictures hanging side by side / Forgotten memories / From another time / AN all the places that I’ve been before / Couple magnets, recipes, and Polaroids / Yeah, but that say life on the ‘frigerator door”

Talk about touching! “Refrigerator Door” was an instant fan-favorite on his sophomore release. The sentimental tune is centered around a man reflecting on physical moments from his past. It is a beautiful and heartfelt tune that deserves all the accolades.

“Blue Collar Boys”

“And we like cold keg beer and fixin’ up trucks / Old bird dogs and the woman we love”

No ‘Luke Combs’ list is complete without a fun and live-show ready jam! “Blue Collar Boys” is just that. The song is an ode to everything Combs’ is and was. He pays homage to all the blue-collar hard-working men and women out there.
