Alex Hall: ‘Six Strings’ – EP Review

Alex Hall’s debut project, an EP titled Six Strings, has been released after three consecutive single releases to tease this highly anticipated collection, which is entirely made up of collaborations with all dignified yet stylistically diverse country music acts.

Alex Hall, a signed artist with Monument Records, has been gearing up for this Six Strings EP release in order to appropriately introduce himself to the music community. With three out of the six numbers separately presented as single releases, followers and country music listeners are now given the remaining pieces of the puzzle. This collection of music is the first from the Georgia native that grants a tracklist, making it somewhat of an inaugural debut into the incomparable and delicately intoxicating voice wholly presented in this eclectic, intriguing production.

To add to the talk of this highly anticipated and long-awaited project, Six Strings is a collaborative one that involves some of the best from the genre such as musical icon Vince Gill, universal entertainer, and 11-time CMA host Brad Paisley and the lyrically ornate Canadian sweetheart Tenille Townes.

“Jealous Love”, acting as the first of the litter being that it was released directly following the announcement of Six Strings, ultimately finds itself third in the lineup of songs. Nonetheless, the track that features John Osborne of Brothers Osborne captures an electrifying, old-time jukebox rock ‘n roll sound that made room at the table of anticipation for upcoming music from Hall.

In early December, another stylistic unveiling took place with “Never Seen the World” where Vince Gill assisted in implementing a fragile, unguarded tenderness that showcased the variety and multi-accessible storyteller in this “Half Past You” singer. “Heart Shut”, an invigorating ballad intertwined with Tenille Townes’ soft, charming rasp executes the same approach with a tug at a different yet nearby heartstring.

The closing production fulfills a faraway, individualistic concept heavily dependent on lyrics and thoughtful storytelling. “Runs in the Family” mixed with a flattering background vocal from Kassi Ashton, the “Pretty Shiny Things” upcoming female country artist, ensures listeners of Hall’s maturity while dipping into the shallow end of his upbringing.

A message appears nearing the finishing touches on the track. It’s as if “Runs in the Family” was written intentionally for the final slot. With Hall covering this specific idea and utilizing several instances to support the claim, it’s almost as if he’s telling fans that there’s more to the story. That there’s more he has to say, and we can’t wait for it.

Six Strings provides country music with a sense of identity as to who this slicked back hair, voice of an angel, from the other side of the music is… and who he may become. With a hand in songwriting and production, there’s bound to be plenty more to learn about and from Hall through music.

Alex Hall Releases New Song Featuring Vince Gill “Never Seen The World”

Alex Hall teams up with Vince Gill to deliver a gentle new track titled, “Never Seen the World”, which will be featured on the singer’s upcoming debut EP titled ‘Six Strings’.

Alex Hall

Rising singer-songwriter Alex Hall is gearing up to release his debut EP titled ‘Six Strings’ in February 2021. The EP is set to feature a range of Nashville favorites, including John Osborne (of Brothers Osborne), Brad Paisley, Tenille Townes, Kassi Ashton, Brad Tursi (of Old Dominion), and Vince Gill.  Leading up to the February release, Hall is sharing several teaser songs off the EP, beginning with “Jealous Love” (feat. John Osborne) last month. Hall followed the first single with a melodic love song titled “Never Seen the World”, feat. country music megastar, Vince Gill. This is a gorgeous song that makes you feel at ease and after just one listens, evokes all-encompassing emotions of love.

“Never Seen the World” features a soothing rhythm and soul-stirring guitar twangs, creating an instant warmth. Hall’s authentically country vocals with Gill on the harmony adds to the gentleness of the song. This song describes a love that alters the way one views the world and makes the mundane parts of life special. In the first verse, the artist sings of a newfound appreciation for life after finding someone special.

“I’ve been down this road a thousand times / I’ve never seen it like this… I can see for miles like I never could / I don’t need to look back.”

The lyrics are simple yet sincere, detailing the emotional shift that occurs during the blossoming of a new relationship.

The chorus is both powerful and soft, with Hall passionately balancing strong notes and a slow tempo. He sings about all of the simple moments he longs to share with his lover and acknowledges the effortlessness of true love.

“Why don’t we just stay awhile and waste a little time? / Listen to the radio and hold each other tight / Talk about whatever, everything under the moon / I’ve never seen the world, I’ve never seen the world / the way I see it with you”

The storytelling is sweet, sincere, and full of authentic country references. The bridge paints a picture with a metaphor, artfully expressing that everything is more beautiful with someone special by your side.

“You’re rose-colored glasses / that I love looking through”

Fans are beginning to see the range of music and lyrical diversity that is to come on the ‘Six Strings’ EP and we look forward to hearing the rest of the songs.

Alex Hall Announces Debut EP + Drops New Song with John Osborne

Alex Hall announced his debut EP, ‘Six Strings’, due out early 2021, and released his first track, “Jealous Love” featuring John Osborne, available now, October 23rd, on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the track.

Alex Hall, a new artist with Monument Records, has begun to introduce his upcoming EP Six Strings that is due out early next year. The project, a collaborative one, features an impressive line-up of talent as additional country acts such as Tenille Townes, Brad Tursi of Old Dominion, Vince Gill, Kassi Ashton, and Brad Paisley join Hall on the EP.

Revealing the debut project today, October 23rd, Hall released a first look at the collection of songs with the brand new track “Jealous Love” which acts as the first single off the record and features John Osborne of the take-it-or-leave-it individualistic duo, Brothers Osborne.

“It’s such an honor to play and sing alongside my friends and heroes on the Six Strings EP. I’m so proud of this body of music, and I can’t wait for the world to hear it!” Hall shares in a recent press release.

To start off this new chapter of music, “Jealous Love” is an electric, dynamic production that adds energy to all environments in which it is played. The chemistry between Hall and Osborne seeps off the record enough to consider expanding the multi-nominated duo Brothers Osborne, who recently released their third studio album Skeletons on October 9th, and adopting Hall into the band.

Alex Hall's "Jealous Love" featuring John Osborne is out now, October 23rd.

Alex Hall’s “Jealous Love” featuring John Osborne is out now, October 23rd.

“Dancing in the neon light / Got every head turned, hypnotized / k, kiss me spin around / And make ’em jealous love / Run your fingers through my hair / Whisper to me in my ear / “You’re the only one / I love your jealous love” / You’re the only one / I love your jealous love”

As an experienced musician who grew up playing gigs around his hometown of Gainesville, Georgia during the week and balancing high school, Hall has been bred for Nashville’s artistry and cross-genre tendencies since the start. The John Mayer and Bruce Springsteen enthusiast incorporates an infectious rock sound along with the best male country influences such as Keith Urban and Eric Church to create a specific, handmade formula that speaks for Hall as a performer. “Jealous Love” provides listeners with that mixture while, at the same time, adding fire to the flame for the release of Six Strings.

Alex Hall Drops New Track “Whiskey On The Table”

Alex Hall Whiskey On the Table

We don’t know about you, but New Music Fridays are one thing that has helped our mood during these strange times, and this week is no different. One of our NYCS Swag Spotlight Alum is back with new music! Alex Hall just released his first song of 2020, “Whiskey on the Table.”

Written by AJ Babcock, Pete Good, and Hall, “Whiskey on the Table” is a powerful song about a relationship ending. The way it is written and how the singer-songwriter delivers the lyrics, you feel as if you are going through the breakup in real-time.

Starting with a guitar solo, the Georgia native isn’t afraid to show his rocker side. He then goes into telling the story of someone willing to give up their records, a shirt, even their whole town to the person who broke their heart. Their only request is to keep the whiskey so they can deal with the heartbreak. We’ve all been there, haven’t we?

While we are all uncertain about the postponement of shows, Hall is scheduled to have a busy spring and summer. He is scheduled to tour the southeast in conjunction with Sofar Sounds and attend a few major festivals, including Shaky Boots, Trailblazer, Tailgate Fest, Hometown Rising, and C2C. Pending schedule changes, you can also catch him on tour with Brandy Clark.

If you are like us and impatiently waiting to see Hall live, you can catch him this Saturday on our Instagram for our virtual country brunch.

Who Is Alex Hall? The Story Behind His Journey to Country Music

Who is Alex Hall? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about his journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

Alex Hall

The Beginning:

Our Swag Spotlight this week, Alex Hall spoke with our Managing Editor, Christina about growing up in Gainesville, GA, idolizing Elvis Presley and putting in 10 years honing his craft before signing his record deal with Monument Records. As a child, Hall lived on a small horse farm and would go to the rodeo every weekend to race his horses. His first recollection of loving music was randomly finding Elvis Presley, not only loving his music but everything about him. “Elvis grew up very country, in a rural area in Mississippi and then moved to Memphis, everything about him besides his music was really country,” he tells us. “I resonated with him so much, I would dress up as him and put on concerts with my karaoke machine and would sing his live concerts front to back. I studied him, I still to this day could probably give an entire documentary interview about him.”

His love for music was then shaped by his father listening to the country greats, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson while his mother was a rock n roll fan, playing ZZ Top, Black Sabbath, and AC/DC. Between sports, rodeo, starting to dig into songwriting and guitar, Hall was already busy in high school but when he was 15 years old he made his first trip to Nashville with his parents and his life changed forever.

The Turning Point:

From then on he would spend hours in the car driving back and forth from Nashville to Gainesville, taking cowrites, playing gigs, and working to gain some traction for himself in the music industry. After moving to Nashville after he graduated high school, Hall explains it was almost 10 years to the day from when he first visited Music City to when he was offered a record deal with Monument Records “I feel like it’s like you are earning your Masters Degree in the music industry,” he explains. It’s like you earn your education to where you get to graduate and perform surgery on people,  It’s the way that it works.”

Speaking of his record label, Monument Records, co-presidents Jason Owen and Shane McAnally fell in love with the singer-songwriter and upon meeting, offered him a record deal on the spot. McAnally had been on his list of dream cowriters for a long time, so to have the chance to actually work with him and have him believe in his music is something he cherishes. “Shane is amazing at tearing stuff apart and putting it back together in a beautiful way, I have learned to deconstruct stuff to build it stronger and better, he is an amazing guy, mentor, label head, producer, TV guy and all of the above.”

Today:

He then takes a moment to tell us about the first single they released last year, “Half Past You”. Looking for a breezy, acoustic song, to complement the groovy, electric and uptempo other songs on his debut project, the song was originally written by Hall along with Pete Good and AJ Babcock. Then he tells us, “Shane literally ‘Songlanded’ us, saying,  ‘I want to push you to rewrite these verses’, he sat in with us and we rewrote it and in about 10-15 minutes we had rewritten every verse and that is the version that’s out now.”

As for 2020, Hall is heading out of the United States for the first time in his life and gets to play C2C in London with headliner Eric Church as well as other festivals over the summer. He also plans to continue writing and recording for his debut record.

To keep up with Alex Hall follow him on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Monument Records’ Latest Signee, Alex Hall Releases “Half Past You”

Alex Hall

Here at NY Country Swag, one of the things we enjoy most is being tastemakers and bringing you music by lesser-known or new artists. Sony Monument Records’ recording artist, Alex Hall debuted his newest song entitled “Half Past You”, today, and you’re going to want to take a listen.

The Georgia native is trailblazing his own path in country music through his unique sound, clever wordplay, and a catchy melody. His new song “Half Past You” is his creative interpretation of the thoughts and feelings in your head post-break-up. Hall admits on the track that he might not be over his ex, expressing the feelings many people have, when they’re drunk and lonely, missing their former relationship.

“The cracks really start showing when we’re wasted / Yeah I had a little too much / I’m just staying in touch / Not trying to fall back in love / Cause I know in my heart that it’s way too soon / Dialing your numbers what my fingers do / I shouldn’t have called / I know it’s half past 2 / but I’m drunk and I guess I’m only half past you.”

“Half Past You” is the first taste of the new artist’s talent and vibe. Fans of Eric Church, Keith Urban, and John Mayer will definitely appreciate his unique artistry. Looking ahead, the singer-songwriter will be working on his first album, surrounded by A-list talent in the industry, including Shane McAnally, Pete Good, and AJ Babcock. Stay tuned for what’s to come for Hall!
