NYCS First Impression: Maddie & Tae ‘Everywhere I’m Goin’ EP

Maddie & Tae Everywhere I'm Goin

Just five months after releasing their EP One Heart to Another, country duo Maddie and Tae (Maddie Marlow and Taylor Dye) are back with part two, Everywhere I’m Goin’. If you thought the tracks that were released in April were personal, wait until you give this a listen.  What makes this release extra special is the CMA Award nominees have co-written each of the titles.

Starting with the title track, “Everywhere I’m Goin’” starts out showing off their incredible talent and harmonies. Written by Marlow, Dye, Laura Veltz, and Jimmy Robbins, the track shares how the girls are ready to put the past behind them and start the next chapter of their careers with their fiancées, Jonah Front and Josh Kerr, by their side.

The second track, “Trying on Rings,” is one of the more personal songs on the EP. It shares the journey of Marlow’s relationship with Front. From their first date when they were 17, to trying on engagement rings, it shows that young love can beat the odds and turn into a happily ever after. Written by Marlow, Dye, Laura Veltz, and Jimmy Robbins, it shows that the duo isn’t afraid of sharing intimate relationship details with their fans.

There are two songs that everyone going through a breakup needs to hear, “Ain’t There Yet” and “Bathroom Floor.” While “Ain’t There Yet” is more about taking as much time as you need after a breakup, “Bathroom Floor” is about moving on and having fun again. Both have a more edgy sound and show off the duos wide range of vocals.

The most anticipated song on the EP “Lay Here with Me” features country superstar and 2015 tourmate Dierks Bentley. It’s a powerful acoustic duet about a couple wanting to reconcile after a fight and truly showcases everyone’s talent.  It starts with Marlow with Dye joining in on the chorus. The second verse is where Bentley comes in. It may not have been a collaboration anyone was expecting, but their voices together are the perfect blend.

Overall, Everywhere I’m Goin’ shows the authenticity of the singer-songwriters as they clearly aren’t holding anything back. In a recent press release, Marlow shared, “This project as a whole is super personal, but these five songs, in particular, take you on an even deeper dive into our lives.”

The talented duo is nominated once again for Vocal Duo of the Year at the 2019 CMA Awards. Tune in on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC to see if they win! Marlow and Dye are currently in the final weeks of the Cry Pretty Tour alongside Runaway June and Carrie Underwood. Read our recap of the sold-out Madison Square Garden show here.
