Luke Combs Goes Number One with Iconic “Fast Car” Cover

Luke Combs continues to share music with his fans that speak to his upbringing and personal life. Combs’ decision to include a cover of Tracy Chapman’s famed song, “Fast Car” on his album went against the grain, but it clearly worked. As someone who grew up listening to that song, Combs clearly has a special place in his heart for the iconic track. Today country radio rewards the risk he took, and “Fast Car’ marks the entertainer’s 16th number one single.

“Fast Car” is one of those songs that captivates every listener. Combs’ rendition brings a country-flair to the honest and authentic track. Every time you listen to the song, you know how special it is to the singer, who shared his love for the song long before its release.

According to a press release, the singer shared, “[My dad] played me all kinds of music and one of the first songs that I remember hearing, he popped a cassette in, and I loved this whole album,” adding later, ““There was this one song that really stuck out to me. It was called “Fast Car.” That song meant a lot to me since then—for my whole life. I always think about my dad when it comes on and us spending time together.”
