Filmore Releases Fresh New Tune “State I’m In”

Filmore is on a roll right now, releasing a number of good vibe and lyrically thoughtful singles. In December, the singer released the catchy and heartfelt tune, “Busy”, leaving us excited for the new music he has in store.

Filmore knows how to write a breakup song that makes you want to both dance and cry at the same time, making him such an exciting artist to watch grow. In “State I’m In”, Filmore sings about his struggle to shake off the memories after a breakup and coming to terms with all of his lost future plans.

Filmore surprises the listener with different beats, sounds, and speeds throughout the song. This tactic of constantly switching up the sound mirrors the emotional story of the song, making the listener feel Filmore’s distress. Before entering the chorus, Filmore sings in a sped-up, upbeat melody.

“Driving out past every small town spot that we had / Letting these wheels spin you out of my head”

The clever lyrics speak both figuratively and literally – he describes the feelings of nostalgia and sadness that show up when every place you go and see is somewhere that once meant something to you and your former partner.

“Baby, that’s the state I’m in / Tennessee or LA can’t outrun your memory / Every single place I’ve been / Can’t stop looking in the rearview / Don’t know where I am without you”

The singer-songwriter uses a clever play on words, with the title lyric “Baby, that’s the state I’m in”, sharing both how he feels mentally and describing the physical locations of where his memories are the strongest. Though he is trying to move forward and just keep driving, he can’t help but get lost reminiscing the past.
