Dylan Scott Performs at Intimate Event at DREAM Hotel in NYC

Dylan Scott NYC

On a grey blustery New York City day, country music might not be your first choice to set the mood, but when we heard Dylan Scott was playing an acoustic set for a few fans at the DREAM Hotel, it quickly became the ideal way to spend a Saturday.

CURB Records put on this event, for Scotts’s last show of 2019 before heading home to Louisiana for his son’s birthday party. Playing for a crowd of only 20 people changes the dynamics of the space, and seems to put everyone at ease and enjoy the camaraderie and experience of something intimate.

The singer-songwriter started off right away with a song and a story about how Morgan Evans, married to Kelsea Ballerini, wrote a song in response to her song, “Peter Pan” called “Hooked”, but never recorded it and let him record it. An acoustic set has its own innate beauty and sound, but it was only further emphasized by Dylan’s raw and deep voice. Never having any voice lessons, he grew up on his dad’s lap, while his dad played guitar singing Confederate Railroad’s “Trashy Women”, perfect for a 3-year old. It’s unbelievable that that kind of voice can come without training, but just hard work and passion for music. He played a new song, “Killin’ Some Time”, that stays in his wheelhouse but is wrought with true emotion that just emanates from it. His inspiration came from Keith Whitley, and that somehow he always knew he wanted to do this and is so grateful that the fans make it possible.

He played “Anniversary”, with a bridge of Bruno Mars’ “That’s What I Like”, that fit so well and shows how he can so easily manage the crossover between country and pop. He followed with a new song, “Lay Down With You” and finished with the one that made it all possible, “My Girl”. Unfortunately, he didn’t play any Christmas songs off his new album, but we quickly added the record to our Country Christmas playlist.

Always a fan of Dylan Scott, we have even more respect and love for him, as he continues to put his family first, but still maintains music in his heart that he’s trying to spread with his fans.
