The Beginning:

Recently we got to catch up with singer-songwriter, Tyler Braden. The Warner Music Nashville recording artist spoke candidly about his journey to country music, weaving in his unique experiences throughout.

The Alabama native grew up around music but never dreamed of it becoming his career. “My parents, my aunts, my uncles, everyone in my family pretty much sang,” he tells us. Adding later, “One of my uncles is a full-blown Elvis [Presley] impersonator.” It was clear to us that music was just something in Braden’s blood from an early age.

As a kid, Braden would sing in church and sing at family parties. However, it was not until after high school that he started giving music a real shot. At nineteen, the singer played in a rock cover band, singing songs by artists like Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin. Although rock seems like a far cry from country music, the singer maintains that he was exposed to many different genres growing up.

Braden was a huge fan of artists like Boyz II Men, The Chicks, Kenny Chesney, and even the Foo Fighters. Despite his eclectic music taste, country music was his first love. “I was always a bigger fan of country,” shared Braden, “Like leaving shows and leaving practices, I was still always listening to country in my truck.

After encouragement by a friend, the singer entered himself in a local contest. Ultimately winning, the artist won his first trip to Nashville for a recording session. He credits that experience for instilling in him a desire to move to Music City to pursue his real dream.

“I actually had a buddy of mine that made the trip to Nashville,” shared the singer. “He said man you kinda gotta be here if you want to have a shot. So I just kind of took a shot in the dark by trying to move up here.”

The Turning Point:

Taking the plunge, Braden moved from Alabama to Nashville, Tennessee. At first, the singer worked as a firefighter and a first responder to make ends meet in the new city. The singer recalls playing shows and gigs all over Nashville to hone his craft even more. The singer began co-writing for the first time with other songwriters in the industry and really learned to appreciate everything that goes into making music.

Eventually, the singer garnered more and more success and his buddies at work began to cover for him. “About the last six months of the fire service, the careers started to overlap. […] So many guys at the station were stepping up and working in my place to allow me to chase this whole thing.” The humans he worked with allowed him to chase his dreams, something he is eternally grateful for. Ultimately, Braden’s hard work paid off! The entertainer signed a record and publishing deal with Warner Music Nashville.

Today:

Flash forward to today, the singer is releasing music under his new label home. Back in March 2020, Braden released a cover of the song “Brother.” The song pays homage to his friends at his old job, as well as, all the other heroes in the world. Although not planning on making it his debut single, it felt like the right timing and the right song.

“When everything shut down, and you saw how firefighters, police officers, nurses, doctors, and everyone started working twice as much, twice as hard, while most of us started working from home then it just seemed like the time,” he said about recording and releasing the song. “They needed some sort of thank you and some sort of appreciation they deserved.”

Most recently, the singer released his song “What Do They Know.” Co-written by Braden, the song became one of those songs that the singer kept going back to. “The song stuck with me and I changed some things and I changed some lyrics here and there, and I added a bridge and just made it even more true to myself and my story,” he shared. “The more we played it live and the more I sang the words and realized how true they were and how true they could be to a lot of people, it really started to mean more and more and more to me.”

The song is the perfect combination of all of Braden’s rock and country influences, something that is truly a staple in his artistry. “That’s kinda rolled over into songwriting and the performance aspect of my career today, the rock backgrounds the rock influences, every time I’m writing I’m thinking how will this look live.”

Fans can look forward to even more music by the artist this year. The next single, “Ways to Miss You” is slated to be released later this month. The music video is even being filmed in Downtown Nashville, as a live show later this week. Braden also hints at a possible EP. At this rate, anything is possible for the newcomer. Regardless, it’s safe to say that we will be hearing more from the singer-songwriter soon enough!

Kylie Morgan: Love, Kylie – EP Review

Kylie Morgan’s debut EP, ‘Love, Kylie’, is available on all streaming platforms now, June 11th. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new music.

Country newcomer, Kylie Morgan released her debut Extended Play (EP) titled Love, Kylie today, June 11th at midnight. The six-track project contains three brand new songs and three previously released songs, “Shoulda,” “I Only Date Cowboys,” and the lead single “Break Things.”

A career in music is what Morgan dreamed of since she was three years old. Now twenty-five, she has landed a record deal and released her first EP appropriately titled Love, Kylie. Listeners who are unfamiliar with her just yet can learn more about her and her bubbly personality in these six fun, yet personal songs.

“You know how every little girl dreams and plans their wedding all their life? Well, this is what I was planning: my debut body of work,” Morgan told listeners in her teaser video. “Every song and every line is a chapter in my story and of my life and my prayer is that it relates to yours.”

Starting off the project with a previously released track, “Shoulda” is an edgy, up-tempo song about her poor decisions. After a messy breakup, she regretfully answers a phone call from her ex, which ends up with her waking up in his bed. Although the alcohol supported the choice, she knows she just should have stayed home. The clever songwriting and rock-inspired instrumentals make this an anthem for all people who struggle cutting ties with their former love interests.

Morgan lets her Oklahoma twang loose in the second song, “I Only Date Cowboys.” She admits she has dated every type of man, from bad-boys, city-boys, and the football stars, but no one gets her like a cowboy. Morgan shows her true country roots in this upbeat track, and even name drops several prominent cowboys such as Jesse James, John Wayne, and Billy Ray Cyrus in “Old Town Road.”

Break Things” was released in March of 2020 and has been her most popular song across all streaming platforms to date. In this energetic, yet vulnerable tune, Morgan confesses that she may be the reason her relationships don’t work out. She warns listeners and potential lovers to keep their feelings in check because she “breaks things,” including hearts.

So don’t stand too close // oh no don’t fall too hard // I ain’t a promise in the dark // ‘cause I break things // You think you do but you don’t // I tend to take it too far // So don’t hand me your heart // ‘cause I break things

Morgan made fans wait for the slower, more mild-tempo tracks on this project. In the acoustic-driven “Outdoor Voices,” she tells all dreamers that in order to achieve their goals, they need to use their outdoor voices, a knock to the classic parenting phrase “use your inside voices.” She puts her powerful vocals on display in this empowering message.

Out here no one can tell us we can’t use your outdoor voices // Don’t be afraid to live loud // I know that all voices tell you to keep it down, keep it down, keep it down // but I can hear you know, hear you now

In “Cheating on You,” the singer feels her and her lover are growing distant because things feel different when they talk, kiss, and lay in bed together. She expresses her concern over a snap-track beat, comparing this feeling to one of being with a complete stranger. Even though they are in the same room, their hearts are already out the door.

In the final track, “Mad I Need You,” Morgan explains the difference between physically and emotionally needing someone. In the first verse, she gives examples of how independent she is when it comes to changing a tire, or finding a way home from the bar, but when she is alone her body aches for this person. It frustrates her how badly she emotionally needs him.

Love, Kylie Track Listing
1. Shoulda (Kylie Morgan, Shane McAnally, Ben Johnson)
2. I Only Date Cowboys (Kylie Morgan, Nate Kenyon, Jay Allen)
3. Outdoor Voices (Kylie Morgan, Emily Falvey, Benjamin Joel Johnson)

5. Cheating On You (Kylie Morgan, Benjamin Joel Johnson, Geoffrey Warburton, Jeffrey Garrison)

It has been quite the month for Morgan, who not only released her debut EP but also got engaged to her longtime boyfriend and fellow country artist, Jay Allen. With this collection of music, Morgan proves her staying power in the genre and we believe Kylie Morgan is on the road to becoming a household name. Chris Young Drops New Song “Rescue Me” Ahead of Forthcoming Album

Chris Young’s new song, “Rescue Me” is available now, June 11th, on all streaming platforms. The song marks the first peek at his forthcoming 8th studio album due out this August. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new music.

Written by Chris Young with Christian Stalnecker, Josh Hoge, Mark Holman, and Matt McGinn, “Rescue Me” is a mid-tempo ballad about finding that special person who becomes the one you put before yourself, the person you’d do anything for, and the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. However, before making that commitment you want to make sure that person is ready to reciprocate those feelings and is ready to rescue you. It’s a beautiful track that teaches an important lesson that relationships should be an equal partnership and that everyone deserves to find their hero.

“But tell me, who is gonna rescue me? // ‘Cause it sure feels like I’m kryptonite // How you got me on one knee, with my hand out beggin’ for mercy. // Yeah, what’s a happy ending if I can’t get the girl? // What’s it matter if I save the world if you don’t promise me before you take this ring // And rescue me …”

Young first teased the song back in February, asking fans for feedback and if it should be included on his next album. This isn’t the first time the singer-songwriter has teased new music on social media. He previously shared “If That Ain’t God” and “In It”.

Luckily, we won’t have to wait long to hear the rest of the album. Young announced that his eighth studio album, Famous Friends, will be released on August 6thth. It’s been four years since the Tennessee Native released a full album and we can’t wait to listen!
