The song is a clever take on the insult “barefoot and pregnant,” flipping the nature of it on its head, and brining new meaning to the phrase. Donovan Woods Shares New Rendition of “Portland, Maine” Featuring Jordan Davis

Donovan Woods adds Jordan Davis to newest rendition of his song, “Portland, Maine,” out now, November 19th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the track below.

Donovan Woods continues o be one of the most respected artists amongst his songwriting peers. It’s been ten years since he released his highly-regarded single, “Portland, Maine.” In celebration, Woods is infusing new life into the song. Last month, he shared an incredible duet with LeAnn Rimes, and today, he is bringing an acoustic-country flavor to the track with the help of incredible country artist, Jordan Davis.

According to Woods, it was a no brainer to ask Davis to jump on the reimagined song with him. “Jordan arrived in Nashville and basically wrote the lights out. I remember hearing about him at first from other writers. He deservedly found success quickly. We got to meet eventually and expressed mutual admiration, I was flattered he’d heard of me. We wrote a song I’m still very proud of called “Another Right Now” that Logan Mize recorded. When I thought about whose voice I wanted on an acoustic version of “Portland, Maine,” he was my first thought. I texted him to ask.”

“Ain’t gonna worry where ya are, who you’re with // Let’s just agree this is it // Portland, Maine // I don’t know where that is // Leave your bags in the car, keep it running // I won’t pretend // That I won’t miss this // But Portland, Maine // I don’t know where that is // And I don’t wanna know // I don’t wanna know // See, I’m just saving us some trouble somewhere down the line // This kind of town you just leave behind // Since you don’t know yet, but you won’t come back  // And I ain’t going nowhere, you know that // Portland, Maine // I don’t know where that is // Leave your bags in the car, keep it running”

While Woods was hopeful that Davis would jump on the track with him, he considered it to be shooting for the stars, but to his surprise, Davis immediately said yes. Both artists’ voices worked so well together on the new version of, “Portland, Maine.” It’s truly a stunning song, whether you are hearing it for the first time or the millionth. Definitely give it a listen!

These things are sensitive in show business, he’s very busy and famous, I just wanted to ask and then I’d move on to more realistic options. He texted back immediately and said ‘yes,’ and I’m so grateful. His voice embodies the character of the song much better than mine. Honestly, I wish he just sang the whole thing.”

The Beginning:

This week we chatted with New York-native singer-songwriter, Benny G all about his rise in country music, his new song, and everything in between. Keep reading to learn more about this star in the making.

“I kind of grew up in a musical family I would say. My grandpa played saxophone and my mom played classical violin,” began Benny G. “She gave me a violin when I was really little, and I hated it. I was just automatically into the guitar, rock guitar, blues guitar.”

While guitar may have been his first love, song-writing came just as naturally. “I wrote my first song when I was seven years old on an Ipad on GarageBand. I grew up with perfect picth, and I’ve always been attracted to melodies and creating stuff. I’ve been writing since I was young,” shared th artist, “In country music, storytelling is so much at the forefront. […] For me, I was kind of created melodies ever since I was little.”

Benny G fell in love with artists like James Taylor and Billy Joel, and eventually, he discovered artists like John Mayer and Chris Stapleton. All of these artists really capture the magic of what Benny G is all about, a true blend of story-telling, guitar, and meaningful melodies.

The Turning Point:

Upon graduating high-school, Benny G knew that Nashville was the place to be to make his dreams a reality. “I’ve been taking trips here for years. […] I’ve kinda been grinding out in Nashville for a few years now ever since I graduated high-school. When I first came here, the first summer, I was playing pizzerias, bars, and then I played Whiskey Jam, and that was the first thing that led me to talking to a record label and people outside in the music industry.”

With some early supporters introducing him to people in town and a work ethic that rivals anyone in country music, Benny G continued to make a name for himself in Music City. “I started coming to Nashville working with amazing songwriters, just these classic in country people, they’re great writers outside of country, but these amazing modern day country songwriters like Natalie Hemby, Dan Wilson so all those things combine led to the development of my writing,” he shared, adding, “Nashville has inspired me so much as far as the classic, song-writing, lyric approach in my writing.”

Eventually he earned himself a record deal with Sony Music Nashville, which marked the first iteration of his career. As he continued to cut his teeth in Nashville, Benny G started a TikTok account called @bennygsingz. “I started [the] TikTok account just as a joke, like we’ll see what happened, I just wanted to do something fun and different, and this community of people started showing up, and I kind of had to make a name change and the music is a bit different, but ever since January, and “I’ve Got A Feeling,” and doing the whole social media thing, the Benny G thing, it’s kind of been the road where I’ve been led.”

Today:

Flash forward to today, Benny G is creating some incredible music. He earned viral success with his single, “I’ve Got A Feeling,” and most recently, released a new song called, “An Hour or So.” “I tease a lot of songs and I play a lot of songs live on the road at shows, and it seems like to me, just by playing these shows, this was the song that people were resonating with the most,” he shared.

“An Hour or So” is an infectious song that is hard not to fall in love with due its honesty and vulnerability. “In terms of the creation process and recording, I wrote it with amazing, amazing songwriter, Dan Wilson. I just kind of came in with the concept one day. I told him how I went on this first date and I was kind of way too early and I was circling around the neighborhood for a minute, and telling him about that awkward feeling of a first date experience. He bit on the idea, and that’s kind of where the song came from.”

2025 marked just the beginning for Benny G, who has truly found his sound in this genre. While it’s hard to believe he will top his two previous releases, fans can look forward to even more music to come in 2026, as well a, shows to be added on the books later in the year. “I’m writing a lot, and I hope there’s some more shows, and there certainly will be in Nashville.”

Today, his hard-work was finally recognized. He earned his first number one single at country radio with his song, “Darlin’.”

Written by Matthew with Alex Maxwell, Ciaran Wilkin, and Hunter Huff, “Darlin'” is catchy and innovative. The song is reminiscent of early 2000s punk rock, while keeping with a chiller vibe and sampling killer hip-hop beats. Unique and memorable, it is no wonder that “Darlin'” finally reached the top spot on the country radio charts.

Ashley Cooke: ‘ace’ – EP Review

Honeyed vocals and uniquely introspective lyrics define rising country star Ashley Cooke’s new project, ace, out now. Across nine new tracks, the singer-songwriter bares her soul with a sincerity that never feels forced. 

Her raw, emotion-rich vocals shine as she unpacks heartbreak, vulnerability, and self-reflection. The Florida native co-wrote seven of the project’s tracks alongside Emily Weisband, Johnny Clawson, Lori McKenna, and other Nashville heavyweights.

Produced by the legendary Dann Huff, ace follows 2023’s 24-track epic shot in the dark. “Growing up, my dad gave me this nickname: Ace. I’m not sure if it was his love of blackjack or because it’s kind of my initials, but nonetheless, it just stuck. It makes me think of the person that I am, truly, to my core, behind closed doors,” she shares.

“It’s been about two and a half years since my debut record was released. So many incredible, bucket-list things filled the days after with the best people I could ever imagine getting to share them with. But life has a funny way of spitting rain when you think it’s gonna be a sunny day. I swear, one thing hit after another. I lost some of the most important people in my life, and health issues in my family piled up left and right. Love came, and love went.   This music is derived from those real situations. It’s brutal honesty. It’s a story in chronological order. And it’s a collection of songs welcoming you to the next chapter. This is ace. Make yourself at home.”

From the opening notes of the bittersweet “gettin’ old” to the closing moments of the heartbreakingly vulnerable “my worst fear,” Cooke’s heart and soul are on full display. The collection’s lyrics share the tale of a young woman grappling with heartache, heartbreak, the possibility of forever, and everything in between.

Standouts include the thematic opposites “talk about” and “the f word.” While “talk about” finds her speechless in front of someone she once loved, “the f word” is a clever, tender ballad anchored by a lyrical twist: the “F word” is forever.

“Yeah I should wash my mouth out with soap // ‘Cause I said the F word in front of your momma //  The first time I met her, not tryna’ start drama // Just kinda slipped out, like what the hell did I just do // I said I’d probably spend forever with you”

Sonically, the frenetic “tin foil hat (panic attack version)” is the most unique track, a building pop-punk inspired chorus that’s unexpected in the best way. Here, she grapples with jealousy and suspicion, musing “I know what it means when he looks at a girl like that.”

“baby blues” offers a playful and sexy moment of levity, while “swear words” is a feelgood uptempo that hearkens back to your favorite country ladies of the ’90s. “the hell you are” is a swampy and gritty romp, offering the most perfect country kissoff. “You’re almost convincing when you’re telling me you’re different// Yeah the hell you are,” She roars. “All that truth about your lies is you’re heaven on the eyes// But when it comes to the heart// You don’t even know the hell you are.”

“swear words” is a gorgeous and epic ballad, remnant of Carrie Underwood’s early work, while the album’s final moments, “my worst fear,” show Cooke at her most vulnerable. On the album’s final track, she weighs the pain of trading success for a relationship, struggling with her own loneliness. “Look who’s lonely now,” She emotes passionately. “Ain’t this the life you were dreaming about // Thought you had the whole thing figured out // But look around // Look who’s lonely now.”

For Ashley Cooke, ace may have been born from growth, heartbreak, and hardship, but the result is a standout project that can only be described as, appropriately, an ace.

Long Island native, Benny G is taking Nashville by storm with his stunning vocals and incredible songwriting. After seeing some traction on his social media, Benny G caught the attention of a major record-label in town. As he continues to build his catalog and grow his fanbase, the singer-songwriter is dropping arguable his best song to date. “An Hour or So” is out now!

“An Hour or So” comes from an honest place. Benny G pulled from inspiration from his own experiences, as he created a song that anyone can relate to. “‘An Hour or So’ is about a first date—pulling into a girl’s neighborhood way too early, driving in circles, and overthinking everything,” shared Benny G in a recent press release. “I definitely was inspired by great country storytelling and mixing it with some soulful elements such as Wurlitzer, slide guitar, etc. Hope you like the tune!”
