Jennifer Nettles Surprise Pop-Up Set in Bryant Park, NYC

One of our favorite things about NYC is that you never know what’s around the corner. This proved to be true tonight, Tuesday, May 17th, when Jennifer Nettles stopped by Bryant Park for a Surprise Pop-Up Set!

The Grand Ole Opry, as part of their Opry Circle Throwdown, organized the surprise set at the Southwest Porch in Bryant Park, just after 8PM. The idea behind the throwdown is to have artists like Jennifer Nettles (or Kelsea Ballerini or Chase Bryant, who visited us in Bryant Park back in September) throw down a replica of the famed six-foot Opry circle of wood and perform to bring a taste of the Opry to new cities. The circle of wood symbolizes the oak center stage at the Opry House and has traveled around the world for planned and impromptu sets. The set also includes the famous Grand Ole Opry Microphone Stand.

If you’ve ever seen Nettles live, then you already know her fun, sarcastic & bubbly personality that she puts into each show. Tonight was no different. She performed a full set featuring some of her new songs like ‘Unlove You’ and ‘Hey Heartbreak‘ from her new album, ‘Playing With Fire.’ She also incorporated some of her old and well-known songs from her former trio, turned duo, Sugarland, like “Baby Girl” and “Stay.” In between songs, Nettles kept the crowd entertained with stories and pointing out guests she had recognized from Twitter.

By the end of her set, Nettles had accumulated quite the audience, with guests filling the porch as well as the surrounding area. She sure knows how to entertain a crowd and certainly brought the energy to Bryant Park. If you haven’t downloaded Jennifer Nettles’ new album already, What are you waiting for!? Dierks Bentley Kicks Off the Season…

It was Thursday Night and we were heading into Dierks Bentley’s #SomewhereOnABeach Tour. We know what you’re thinking… who better to kick off the season, right? Right. The best part? This was the FIRST stop on the tour. That’s right, we had no idea what to expect. No insight, no reviews, no photos, nothing. We were the test dummies and we were ready and willing to stand up to that challenge.

Dierks’ buddies, Tucker Beathard, Cam & Randy Houser opened the show and set the tone for this exhilarating concert. Dierks debuted shortly after 9PM opening with,”Up On The Ridge.” The next 90 minutes we spent somewhere… it wasn’t necessarily on a beach, but we definitely weren’t in Jersey anymore. Dierks had brought us into his world & we were captivated.

He took us through some of his best & oldest tunes to his newest jams from the new album, “Black.” At one point of the show he jumped into the crowd and went all the way to the back to a secondary stage, which he called, “Not the B-Stage, but the Beach Stage.” Here, he pulled out Cam & Randy Houser for a cover of “Take It Easy.” With the perfect mix of story telling & singing, he sure had the complete attention & admiration of everyone in attendance.

Before we knew it, the show was ending, Dierks was leaving the stage and our poor hearts were saddened to think it was over. The feeling didn’t last long when Dierks came back out to perform, DRUNK ON A PLANE. And oh yes, he literally came out on stage on a plane! The energy was HIGH and we have to admit it was one of the best encores we have ever experienced. During the song, Randy Houser & Cam made their way back out on the stage along with the band & crew. From band-mates dressed in stewardess outfits to shot-gunning beers on stage, you couldn’t help but laugh and love this fun performance. A friend of ours described it best, “They made me feel like they were my own friends and I was watching them do something funny.”

Following the show, Dierks stuck around for a good 10-15 minutes signing hats, shirts, tickets, etc. for fans. Proving one of our favorite facts about Country Music Artists, they are some of the most humble and grateful people in the industry!

Our absolute favorite part of the show? We’d have to go with the moment when Dierks put a New York Country Swag snapback on while performing on stage! Yes. That happened.

Safe to say, Dierks & The Somewhere On A Beach Tour really set the bar high for all the shows coming to town this summer. It could not have been a better kick-off for the best season of them all, Summer Concert Season! Check out our Facebook page for more pictures from the show & don’t forget to follow us on instagram! NYCountry Swag Kick-Off Party…

January 16, 2016, NYCountry Swag kicked off it’s very first event with none other than a country music themed brunch at lower east side nightclub, Libation NYC.

The New York Country Swag Team got to Libation early Saturday morning to double check guest lists, floor plans, set-ups and made sure everything was absolutely perfect for our big day.

At 10AM the star of our show, Russell Dickerson, arrived with his beautiful wife, Kailey. For those of you who do not know him, Russell is a Nashville native & Belmont University alumnus. This past summer his latest single, Yours, was picked up by Sirius XM’s The Highway Find program. The program picks up new & often unsigned artists and showcases their music to country music lovers across the nation. Competing with hits by artists like Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton, Dickerson’s power ballad peaked at number 15 on the radio stations Hot 45 Countdown.

NYCountry Swag Founder, Stephanie Wagner, caught Russell Dickerson’s set last November on the Florida Georgia Line Cruise and was immediately hooked. When thinking of a special talent for our first event, Russell Dickerson immediately came to mind.

As Russell & Kailey walked in to Libation, we were both equally excited & nervous for what’s to come. When Russell asks where he is playing, we take a look at the bar & with a nervous laugh ask, “How do you feel about playing on top of that?…” To us, this was a total “New York City Meets Country Music” vibe. Russell agreed.

We got through soundcheck, a few last minute adjustments and before we know it the doors were opening and the line of guests to our sold out event began trickling in.

Within the first twenty minutes, we had all three floors of Libation BUMPING with Country Music, Country Fans & Country Love. We had two DJ’s, Johnny A & Timmy H of DJ’s @ Work, a photobooth, a photographer, endless props of cowboy hats, bandanas & blow up horses. We had line dancing and cornhole with Nash fm & a very special guest host, from Nash fm’s ‘Ty, Kelly & Churck’, Kelly Ford. Mimosas were flowing, sparklers were flaring and everything we had taken weeks to plan was unfolding perfectly right before our eyes.

Russell performed two acoustic sets. Playing everything from new music from his EP, Yours, including our personal favorites “Every Little Thing” and “Blue Tacoma,” to covers like “Friends in Low Place”s by Garth Brooks mixed with a bit of Drake’s, “Hotline Bling” & Fetty Wap’s, “Trap Queen”. There was something for everybody in Russell’s set. If you weren’t a fan of Russell before our Brunch, you certainly were after.

Like all great things, our big day quickly came to an end. Wrapping up the event was bittersweet. As much as we did not want it to end, we smiled knowing it was only the beginning for NYCountry Swag. We couldn’t have asked for a better kick-off party and are looking forward to all of the amazing events we have planned for the future.

Now head to our Facebook page & check out all of the awesome & hilarious pictures from the big day! While you’re there, be sure to give us a follow, as well as on our Instagram & Twitter, so you do not miss any of the fun & new things coming up!

Finally, We want to send a big Thank You to those who made our big day so special. To the lovely Kelly Ford & our friends at Nash FM – Thank You for bringing Country Music back to NYC & co-hosting our event! We are honored to call you friends.

To Russell & Kailey Dickerson – Thank You for bringing your contagious energy, optimism & love to our event! It was an honor & pleasure to work & spend time with the two of you. You have lifetime friends & fans in us!

To Libation – Thank You for trusting in our event, for your support & for providing an amazing & accommodating venue & team!

And to all of you, our GUESTS! Thank YOU for being a part of the NYCountry Swag family. We loved meeting & getting to know all of you and look forward to rocking with each and every one of you at future events!

Peace, Love & Country Music.

Old Dominion hits Joe’s Pub, NYC

What do you get when you put five insanely talented songwriters in a room? Old Dominion, Of course!

The Country/Country-Rock group consists of five guys – Matthew Ramsey (Lead Vocals), Trevor Rosen (Guitar & Keyboard), Whit Sellers (Drums), Geoff Sprung (Bass) & Brad Tursi (Guitar). 4 of the 5 are tied to the state of Virginia, giving them their band name, Old Dominion, a nickname for the state.

Before their own days on the stage, members of the group experienced the limelight behind it. Writing numerous hits including, but not limited to: Kenny Chesney’s, “Save It For a Rainy Day,” Sam Hunt’s “Make You Miss Me,” and Dierks Bentley’s, “Say You Do.”

In late 2014, Old Dominion’s “Break Up With Him,” a song from their first self-titled EP, gained some airplay on Sirius XM Radio’s “The Highway.” It was at that point when we began to see the popularity of the group rise. Old Dominion later released “Break Up With Him” as a single on their debut full-length album, Meat & Candy. (The album released November 6, 2015) “Break Up With Him” would quickly become their first number one hit.

Determined to climb to the top, the group hit the road, playing 180 shows in 2015 alone, including opening up for Kenny Chesney on his Big Revival Tour.

We caught up with the band last night in NYC at Joe’s Pub, where they played two back-to-back shows. Joe’s Pub is a fun, intimate spot. Small tables of 4 fill the room surrounded by a small, front & center stage. Think: “Bluebird Cafe meets New York City.” The band opened with “Shut Me Up,” the lead single from their first EP. They continued with more songs from the album including their second single, “Snapback.”

If their own songs weren’t enough to steal the crowd, than their covers certainly did. They performed songs from their bandmates own (long) list of successful writes/co-writes. This included Blake Shelton’s, “Sangria,” Tyler Farr’s, “A Guy Walks Into A Bar” and many more.

The guys brought it back to their roots with their song, “Nowhere Fast,” in which the audience took a quick liking to, clapping to the beat & singing the words back to Old D. They ended the show with Craig Morgan’s, “Wake Up Loving You,” written by Old Dominion’s, Matthew Ramsey & Trevor Rosen.

These guys are the real deal. They’re talented, entertaining & not to mention, good looking. If you haven’t seen them live yet, make sure to put it on your list of things to do. Old Dominion has quite the future ahead of them & we are excited to follow them into 2016.

The group wraps up the last leg of their 2015 shows this coming Monday, December 21st in NYC at NBC’s Today Show at 8AM. Be sure to tune in!
