Rising country star and NYCS artist to watch (2018), Jimmie Allen is becoming a fan-favorite on ABC’s TODAY with Hoda and Kathie Lee. The musician has appeared on the television show four times in just the last few months, as both a performer, co-host, and panelist. This morning, Allen was invited back to set to participate in the ‘Guys Tell All‘ segment for the second time and to perform his latest song, “Make Me Want To” off his debut album Mercury Lane.

Once again, the all-male panel consisted of reality star, Ben Higgins, comedian, Chuck Nice, and celebrity gym trainer, Don Saldino. This time around, the men answered questions pertaining to New Years, older women, women proposing, deal-breakers in dating, and much more. Introduced as the “chart-topping single dad,” Allen shared his deal-breaker with the co-hosts and fellow panelists, “My deal-breaker is someone who’s not motivated, someone who’s not ambitious, not chasing anything. No matter what she’s chasing, she has to be doing.” Additionally, the singer-songwriter agrees that women are sexiest in comfy clothes, sans makeup, and just rocking some confidence. Check out clips from the segments here, as well as, the battle of sexes game the co-hosts and panelists played together.

At the end of the segment, Allen took the stage yet again to perform as part of the Citi Concert Series. Hoda and Kathie Lee gave the newcomer a warm welcome, “He spent the entire morning with us, but we could not let one of the hottest acts in country go cause we needed a performance. We’re talking about our friend Jimmie Allen, who had quite the year with the release of his debut album, and his hit single “Best Shot.” He’s treating us to his latest song, it’s called ‘Make Me Want To.’”

Allen shared his inspiration for the song, just before having the time of his life on stage, “So I’m a sensitive guy and I wanted to write a song about seeing a girl at a bar that you like, but also, I’m the one that’s normally catching feelings first […] You’re amazing, I like you, I’m the cool guy, but if I’m being honest it might be too soon to say I love you, but you’re gonna make me want to.”

The singer-songwriter appeared so comfortable on stage, as he belted the lyrics, interacted with his fellow co-hosts and panelists, as well as, showed off some of his signature dance moves. Check out the entertainer’s entire performance here!

Next up, Allen will hit the road on Scotty McCreery’s ‘Season Change Tour.’ The tour makes its way to Long Island, New York in January. Find tickets here. Fans can catch the singer on select dates of Kane Brown’s 2019 ‘Live Forever Tour’ this new year as well. Head to jimmieallenmusic.com for tickets and more information.

As previously announced, their brand new album, Can’t Say I Ain’t Country is slated to be released February 15th with a headlining tour by the same name also in the works.

Just last week, Hubbard and Kelley revealed their album cover and made their record available for pre-order across all streaming platforms. Currently, fans who pre-order their fourth studio album will automatically receive five of the nineteen tracks including singles, “Simple” and “Talk You Out of It,” as well as, “Sittin’ Pretty,” “Colorado,” and their new song, “People Are Different.” Their latest song spreads the message of unity, respect, and acceptance of people who come from all different walks of life and viewpoints. FGL will continue to release more songs, as we get closer to album release day.

Florida Georgia Line close out the year with a 2019 Grammy nomination for their collaboration with Bebe Rexha on their smash hit “Meant To Be.” The duo heads to Australia in March for a four-show gig, just before gearing up for their headlining tour, which should occur soon after. 10. Ryan Griffin– Signing a joint publishing and development deal with songwriter/producer busbee and Warner Music Nashville partnering with Altadena, the singer has been in the studio working on new music, slated for release is 2019. He released three songs in 2018 that made waves on streaming services, “Best Cold Beer”, “Good Company”, and “Play It By Heart”, garnering over 2 million streams combined. For more accomplishments click here.

9. Brandon Lay – As the opening act on Kenny Chesney’s Trip Around the Sun Tour which hit 40 stadiums this past summer, Lay he gained tons of new fans and honed in on his performing skills. He released two brand new songs, “Yada Yada Yada” and “Let It” and was even named  “Vevo’s 2019 DSCVR Artists to Watch”.  Lay is representing country music as the only country artist chosen of 20 artists from all different genres. For more about Brandon Lay click here.

8. Jordan Davis – 2018 was a huge year for Jordan Davis, the singer released his debut album Home State and his debut single “Singles You Up” hit the top of the charts, an incredible feat for a rising artist. He toured the country, garnering new fans with Jake Owen’s ‘Life Whatcha Make It Tour’ as well as Kip Moore’s ‘Room to Spare Tour’ alongside another one of our Artists to Watch, Jillian Jacqueline. 7. Jillian Jacqueline – Back in January, Jillian Jacqueline was one of our very first Swag Spotlights, where we learned about her backstory and the process behind releasing her debut EP, Side A. Now after releasing the sequel, Side B, Jacqueline continues to impress fans with her honest storytelling and appealing vocals. Joining Thomas Rhett’s “Life Changes” tour for select dates, she shared the stage with Midland, Brett Young, Carly Pearce, and Russell Dickerson. 6. Adam Doleac – We first featured Adam Doleac during our Swag Session at Refinery Rooftop back in 2017 and since then we have watched him pursue his career even further and accomplish big dreams.  In 2018, Doleac stood in the infamous circle at the Grand Ole Opry with his family and friends in the audience. Among this incredible honor, the rising artist has been named one of CMT’s Artist Discovery, Texas Roadhouse Artist of the Month, and had his first CMT video premiere with “Bigger Than Us”. We look forward to hearing new music from the singer-songwriter in 2019. For more about Adam Doleac click here.

Ryan Kinder – One of our favorite vocalists in country music, Ryan Kinder released a 3-track project titled The Road featuring his own personal style of bluesy-blend of country music. He performed in 2018 for the UK’s Country Music Week and C2C Road Show Tour. As well as performing all across Europe, including a sold-out performance in July at London’s Hyde Park featuring Eric Clapton, Santana, and Gary Clark Jr. He headlined a 14-city tour across the states and fans were constantly singing back his lyrics to him.  Looking ahead, Kinder is gearing up to release more music and our ears will be anxiously waiting. For more about Ryan Kinder and his 2018, click here.

4. Jimmie Allen – After featuring Jimmie Allen as one of our Swag Spotlights and during a Live Swag Session, we fell in love with his personality and his drive to pursue his dreams. After moving to Nashville and living in his car to save money, the singer-songwriter finally achieved a lifelong achievement of putting out his debut album, Mercury Lane. His debut single, “Best Shot” hit the top spot on the charts, putting him a league of a few artists who had their debut singles go to the number one spot this year. He not only made his television debut on the Today Show but he also had a co-hosting spot, letting his hilarious personality shine. To end a long list of achievements, Country Radio Seminar announced that Allen was in the CRS New Faces of Country Music® Class of 2019.    Allen is an opening act on McCreery’s Seasons Change Tour then he joins Kane Brown, opening for him on the Live Forever Tour through the beginning of March. The summery video garnering over 1 million views on YouTube. She closed out 2018 by releasing a 3-track project ‘The Vocals’ which highlighting songs from her album but stripped down, really showing off the songstress and her sensational voice. She has also connected with ABLE, a Nashville-based lifestyle brand to create a line of jewelry that incorporates her single, “Worth It.” The proceeds from these sales go to help people in need in Nashville and beyond. The singer-songwriter will also join Jimmie Allen and Kane Brown on the Live Forever Tour. For more info about Danielle Bradbery visit here.

2. Cale Dodds – The singer joined New York Country Swag during his radio tour promoting the single “Take You Back” and he performed for one of our Live Swag Sessions.  Throughout the year he released four singles, and for each single, he stripped it down and released an acoustic version, showing his versatility and true musicianship. He also took his first steps into the circle at the Grand Ole Opry in October, fulfilling a lifelong dream since listening to his grandmother play the Opry on the radio when he was a child. Looking ahead to 2019, fans are hoping for a full-length album from the Warner Nashville recording artist.  To watch his videos and learn more, click here.

1. Morgan Evans – Last but certainly not least, another rising artist to have a huge 2018, Morgan Evans. His debut single in the states, “Kiss Somebody” hit the top of the charts. He also released his first album in America, Things That We Drink To which was the perfect group of songs to introduce the Austrailian singer-songwriter to new fans. Teaming up with Southwest Airlines, he raced across the country doing 10 shows in 10 different cities 10 nights in a row. Evans even made a stop in New York and we got the full experience for our readers!  He joined Chris Young on his Losing Sleep Tour with Dan + Shay, bringing his unique performing style with his pedal loop to thousands across the country. 5 Original Country Songs That Should Be Future Christmas Classics

When it comes to the holiday season, there are the tried and true Christmas classics that get played time and time again. Yet, in recent years, some of our favorite country stars have released holiday albums with original songs that should become future Christmas classics.  From Brett Eldredge, Chris Young, and Darius Rucker to Kacey Musgraves and Sugarland, here are five of our favorite original country Christmas songs.

Chris Young: “It Must Be Christmas”

There are certain voices that just feel like Christmas and Chris Young is one of those such voices. With his deep and smooth tone, his distinct country voice was made for Christmas tunes, wrapping soothingly around the listener like a warm blanket beside a fireplace. This was never more apparent than on his 2016 holiday album, It Must Be Christmas, which features Young’s take on a slew of holiday classics, including “Silent Night,” “The Christmas Song,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” However, it’s the album’s title track that’s truly the standout. The ballad celebrates everything that’s good and magical about the Christmas season and is sure to get you in the holiday spirit with one listen.

Kacey Musgraves: “A Willie Nice Christmas”

When Kacey Musgraves announced her 2016 album, A Very Kacey Christmas, fans wondered what the country chanteuse would do differently than her country peers. Always one to stand out from the pack, Musgraves released a diverse and varied take on the holidays, putting her own spin on Christmas classics, taking on some lesser known tracks, and of course, penning some originals. While the likes of “Christmas Makes Me Cry” and “Present Without a Bow” are two unique tracks, it’s “A Willie Nice Christmas” that is sure to make you smile. The laid-back tune features guest vocals by Willie Nelson and celebrates the lighter things in life, like “finding your own little peace on Earth.” The song features a line that is sure to be a highlight of the album, reminding listeners, “May we all get higher than the angel at the top of the tree.”

Brett Eldredge: “Glow”

While Brett Eldredge has become a household name as a country singer, the superstar is actually quite the crooner, as evidenced on his 2016 holiday album, Glow. On the album, Eldredge proves that he could give Michael Buble a run for his money as the reigning King of Christmas. While Eldredge puts his swinging, jazzy edge on the classics including “White Christmas” and “Winter Wonderland,” it’s the album’s title track that you’ll have on repeat. “You look good in the light of my Christmas tree,” Eldredge sings. “And I love to watch you glow.” On this track, Eldredge croons, and listeners are sure to swoon.

Sugarland: “Little Wood Guitar”

When it comes to Christmas albums, there are few as underappreciated as Sugarland’s 2009 release, Gold and Green. Unlike many other holiday albums, Sugarland veered toward less typical tracks here, recording songs like “Nuttin’ for Christmas” and “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” in addition to classics like “Silent Night” and “Winter Wonderland.” However, Sugarland shines on the original songs here, including “Coming Home,” “City of Silver Dreams,” and the album’s title track. However, no song is more special than “Little Wood Guitar,” telling the tale of a guitar received on Christmas, which ends up being a life-changing gift. Stay tuned for the full-circle moment in the last verse.

Darius Rucker: “Candy Cane Christmas”

On 2014’s Home for the Holidays, the golden-voiced Darius Rucker has assembled a perfect blend of Christmas classics and new originals. Standout moments of the album include the heartfelt “What God Wants for Christmas,” in addition to Rucker’s fun take on “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” Yet, it’s “Candy Cane Christmas,” that is truly a delightfully sweet highlight. Over a soothing orchestration, Rucker’s voice feels like home, as he warmly sings “It’s a candy cane Christmas, sweet as it can be.”

Empowered Women Empower Women in Country Music

Women

Photo Via @MarenMorris on Instagram

2018 saw its share of hot-topic issues including the inequality of the mainstream presence of women in country music, which will likely continue to be a hot-topic moving into 2019.  If the Billboard Top 40 Country charts over the past few weeks, with only two women on the chart the weeks of December 11th and 15th, 2018, are any indicator, this topic will only continue to heat up more.

Fortunately, the movement to support women in country music has seen quite the shift, with growing support from very successful women in the industry, such as Karen Fairchild and Miranda Lambert. During the CMT Artist of the Year awards, Karen Fairchild recited a list of female artists who deserved recognition and Miranda Lambert give a very uplifting thank you speech about the value of support of her fellow women musicians.

Despite that the fact that the country ladies are not seeing a significant amount of airplay on the radio, there are great resources to discover new artists and continue to support your favorite country gals.

NashNightsLive DJ Elaina D. Smith has created a podcast dedicated to women in the industry telling their story titled “Women Want to Hear Women”.  Each episode features another artist chatting with Smith about the struggles and the ways they think things should change. Check out this post about her conversation with Carrie Underwood here.

The Song Suffragettes is a self-proclaimed, all women, singer-songwriter showcase based in Nashville, Tennessee. The weekly shows have become one of the biggest features at The  Listening Room and have earned the group significant attention on social media and various publications.

There are a bunch of great playlists on Spotify after a quick search that are curated by individuals, various organizations, and Spotify, dedicated to only country ladies.  These playlists are a great way to discover new artists as they are frequently updated and you can search related artists as well.

CMT has done a great job of featuring women through live events and TV programming. The 2018 Artist of the Year awards featured only women, for the first time. Additionally, each year a “Next Women of Country” class is announced which has an accompanying tour. You can check out our post about the 2019 class here.

Did you know that NYCS also supports women in country through a variety of resources? Each year we hold a women’s brunch, so be on the lookout for the 2019 date and check out the recap of our 2018 event here! Plus, we have our “Women of the Month” series on our blog, which you can check out here, and while you’re perusing the blog, you can listen to some tunes by your favorite country ladies on our “Girl Power” playlist on Spotify here.

NYCS 2018 Artist To Watch Where Are They Now: Jordan Davis

Jordan Davis

Here at New York Country Swag, we pride ourselves on being tastemakers, finding and championing new and up-and-coming artists and introducing our followers to the best of the best of the rising acts. Back in January of this year we named the 10 artists below in our “Artists to Watch in 2018” and we are proud to say, we know rising talent before they make it big. Someone to add to your watchlist, if you haven’t already, is Jordan Davis.

A lot has changed for the new-comer since Davis released his debut album, Home State earlier this year. Following the release of his album, the first single sent to radio was “Singles You Up” which hit No.1 on the Country Airplay chart, making it his very first. The song also been streamed more than 300 million times across all platforms since its release. As the year is coming to an end the song is still sitting in the Top 20.

Over the summer Davis hit the road alongside Chris Janson on Jake Owen’s “Life’s Whatcha Make It” tour. Hitting 21 ballparks and venues across the country the rising artist had a very busy summer.  Davis’s next single was “Take It From Me” which brought Davis a new first, as it was the first time he collaborated with his brother Jacob Davis to write it. The Davis brothers are each other’s number one fans so for Davis be able to write a song with his brother and have the success it is having is huge for the pair! This song is climbing up the chart sitting at No. 15 currently.

Going into the latter half of the year, Davis hoped back on tour all fall with Kip Moore’s Room To Spare tour alongside Jillian Jacqueline. Since then there has been talk about Davis’s sophomore album coming in 2019 and what it will entail. While many of his songs on Home State have inspiration from Davis’s courtship with then girlfriend and now wife, Kristen O’Connor, the Louisiana-native will have songs that reflect married life in his next album.

As the year winds down Davis has a ton to celebrate as the year comes to a close. He hits the road again with Old Dominion on Jan. 18th and fans can check out tour dates here.

[Listen] Newcomer Kylie Morgan Releases “Easy To Forget”

Kylie Morgan

Nashville based Kylie Morgan released her anticipated new single “Easy To Forget” earlier this month.  From beginning writing at 12 years old, to releasing independent music as a teen, Morgan is primed for success in this business. Her first single release is full of vulnerability, truth, and feelings we don’t want to admit we’ve felt.

The chorus “You’re like a Rolling Stones record on repeat / Can’t get you out of my head / You’re like a first sip of Tennessee whiskey / Still burning on my lips / Keep hearing your voice, keep seeing your face / Keep reaching for the ghost lying here in my bed / Wish you were more like a drunken memory / Easy to forget” explains the story of how wishing a relationship gone wrong would be more forgettable. Her angelic voice that makes you believe every word and understand the pain she’s feeling.

The well-known writers and producers, Josh Kerr and Shane McAnally produced the track as Morgan is a part of the SMACKSongs team. The team assists her to refine and release her music, under the advice of GRAMMY Award-winning songwriters, McAnally and Josh Osborne.

She captioned her picture of the release on her Instagram, “I can’t tell you how long I’ve waited for this moment. From my heart to your headphones. This is a day I’ll never forget.” Certainly this single is just a taste of what’s coming for Morgan and she’ll have more days coming her way that will be memorable. You can listen to “Easy To Forget” on all digital platforms now.

What We’re Listening To: December Picks

NYCountry Swag’s “What We’re Listening To” playlist highlights the wide range of our team’s favorite songs and artists when it comes to the country music genre.  At the end of the day, we are all fans first with a passion for country music and are eager to share with you all what we’ve got on repeat each month.

Find below each of our team member’s favorite songs and why in our December picks. Then be sure to give our Spotify account a follow and listen to our favorite tracks!

DECEMBER PICKS:

Stephanie Wagner, Founder

Pick: “Love That” – Seaforth
Songwriters:Tom Jordan, Mitch Thompson, Daniel Ross and Michael Whitworth

This month I’m choosing Seaforth’s “Love That”.  I was immediately hooked on this track upon first listen from the catchy and upbeat vibe, but deconstructing the lyrics, we find the true essence of a country song.

“You don’t tell your friends that you stayed the night // you won’t ever say that you’re only mine // and you know I love that // when you kiss me on the neck you make me want that // then you throw my heart away and pull it right back // the pleasure with the pain // there’s something about that // try to fight back // but I relapse // you know I love that”

Painting the picture of a relatable love story where perhaps one person in the relationship wants more than the other. Nonetheless, whether public or not, they can’t resist the urge to be with that person.

Seaforth’s artistry is comparable to fellow country duo Dan + Shay, with a hint of Rascal Flatts and I think that we’ll be hearing a lot of this song in 2019 and more from the rising Australian duo.

Christina Bosch, Managing Editor

Pick: “Jack It To Jesus (Spray It To Hell)” – Jaida Dreyer
Songwriters: Jaida Dreyer & Jesse Frasure

The Season One winner of Real Country, Jaida Dreyer took a leap of faith when choosing to perform an original song she had written for the finale of the country competition show. “Jack It To Jesus (Spray It To Hell)” isn’t only catchy sonically but the female empowerment lyrics reference the incredible “honkey tonk angels” like Loretta and Dolly that have paved the way for all of the current artists trying to make their mark on this genre.

“They broke their own hearts while blazing the trail those honky-tonk angels wore the pain well they teased it up high like true southern belles, they jacked it to Jesus then sprayed it to hell.”

Dreyer shared on Instagram that her friend Melissa Schleicher who has done hair and makeup for Loretta Lynn and Carrie Underwood throughout her remarkable career told her once that everytime Miss Loretta would sit down she would look in the mirror and say “Jack it to Jesus and spray it to hell!”  After reading her caption and hearing the song I immediately fell in love with the story behind the song and the truth from the past that can be depicted in a modern day country song. The Nashville songstress has a unique twangy quality in her voice and won’t be mistaken for anyone else creating music in the genre. Take a listen to the bop and have a whole new appreciation for hairspray.

Kelly Cunningham, Contributing Writer

Pick: “Runnin’ Away From Home” – Brett Young
Songwriters: Brett Young, Hilary Lindsey, Zach Crowell

“This track sounds like a sequel to his song “You Ain’t Here To Kiss Me.” I love the idea of continuing a song and looking back on what he wrote and realizing what he did. It’s a catchy tune that shows his growth of songwriting and sharing his personal maturation. You’d never think an artist could pull off writing a second part of a track like this, but Young made it a hit.”

Taylor Delia, Contributing Writer

Pick: “Rumor” – Lee Brice
Songwriters: Lee Brice, Kyle Jacobs, Ashley Gorley

“Lee Brice does it again with his new single ‘Rumor’. The catchy guitar chords and the smooth vocals have you reeled in from the start.  Brice solidifies himself as one of my favorite storytellers in country music writing about new love and the limbo period for a couple. You know it’s a great song when you can close your eyes and see the story play out in front of you. ‘There’s a rumor goin’ round about me and you/stirring up this little town the last week or two

Molly Holmberg, Contributing Writer

Pick: “I Still Do” – Levi Hummon
Songwriters: Danielle Blakey, Levi Hummon, Trannie Anderson

“I have covered some events for Levi Hummon in the past and each time this certain song is performed it gets such a positive reaction from the crowd and it is then I knew this was going to be such a great new single. “I Still Do” is a song about a breakup and focuses on the same room once shared with someone else is now empty. The singer knows that they are over yet he still finds himself thinking about her, wanting to go drive to her house and wondering where she is. The video really plays out the lyrics to a T, concentrating on love and its unexpected absence.  The video also just made its premiere on CMT and Billboard earlier this week. The track has already had a ton of engagement, being featured on a number of playlists on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, YouTube Music, and Pandora, and should definitely be added to your playlist!”

Nicole Piering, Contributing Writer

Pick: “If You Ever Wanna” – Nick Wayne
Songwriters: Nick Wayne and Justin Ebach

“Last month, I had the privilege of attending a writers round at Nashville’s Listening Room Cafe, where I was introduced to Nick Wayne’s music. While Wayne appeared alongside accomplished songwriters like Josh Kerr and Jordan Minton, it was his unique soulful style and captivating lyrics that immediately won me over. Since then, his Two Sides EP has been on constant replay for me, and while I love both of the EP’s tracks, “If You Ever Wanna” is the one that I keep going back to. The song is endlessly catchy, the lyrics are great, and it’s a great way for Wayne to introduce himself to country fans. I truly expect big things from him in 2019, and can’t wait to hear more from Wayne if “If You Ever Wanna” is any indication of what’s to come.”

Olivia Reese, Contributing Writer

Pick: “Rhinestone World” – Dallas Smith
Songwriters: Andrew DeRoberts, Josh Osborne, Rodney Clawson

“Dallas Smith is a Canadian Country artist that I have really enjoyed for a few years now. Occasionally, a single will be featured on a playlist but overall he still remains on the fringes in the U.S. His most recent single “Rhinestone World” does not disappoint. The upbeat tune paints the picture that the love interest of the song is a rare find, an uncommon treasure after a long time searching. “Girl can’t believe you’re mine /Loving you is like finding /A diamond in a Rhinestone world.” The simple lyrics go on to explain that being with your love is like all of the little, yet most joyful, moments in life, “You’re a little white church/ On a corner in Mississippi/ The front porch light that feels like home, girl,” “You’re a red Corvette on a Carolina two-lane /Lighter in the air to a damn good song.”

Pick: “Drive Thru” – MacKenzie Porter
Songwriters: Mackenzie Porter, Natalie Hemby, Tommy English

“I first discovered singer-songwriter, MacKenzie Porter in the Netflix original show, ‘Travelers.’  Naturally, I followed her on Instagram, learning that she is also a country musician. She has been teasing that she was in the studio recording her EP and recently released two tracks from it, “Drive Thru,” and “About You.” I absolutely love both songs but “Drive Thru,” has slowly become a clear favorite. The lyrics are fun and catchy, telling the other person in the relationship that she isn’t allowing them to make their own terms.

“I said it before and I’ll say it again. Boy, I ain’t Your Drive Thru / You can’t roll up whenever you like / There’s no late night menu, whenever you got an appetite / You always show up at my window, trying to order this but you know / Boy I ain’t your drive thru, so keep driving thru.”

I love that “Drive Thru” is a song anyone can relate to. There is always that one person who thinks they can come and go whenever they want and in this song, that is not the case. Porter is definitely an artist to watch and I can’t wait to hear her other songs off her EP when it comes out!”

Pick: “1, 2, 3 Mississippi” – Brett Young

Songwriters: Brett Young, Jon Nite, Justin Ebach

“Whenever I come across artists and fall in love with their debut records, I always feel a sense of nervousness when they release new ones. I felt this exact way with Brett Young releasing his sophomore record Ticket To L.A. Young’s self-titled album is one of my favorites of all time and luckily, I feel the exact same way about the new one. “1, 2, 3 Mississippi” was my favorite right off the bat. When I listened to the album in full for the first time, I kept replaying this song. It has such a good vibe to it, I can’t wait to drive around in the warmer weather with the windows down with this song blasting.”

Pick: “On My Way To You” – Cody Johnson
Songwriters: Brett James & Tony Lane

“Texas-born country singer Cody Johnson has been one of my favorites for many years and I am so happy that his single “On My Way To You” is making its way up the country music charts.  “On My Way To You, tells a story about a journey on your way to finding the person you are supposed to be with. It is a subtle reminder that the road to find love may not always be easy, but in the end, when you find your one true love, everything you’ve been through was worth it.

Johnson sings heartfelt lyrics such as: “All the boats I’ve missed / All the hell I’ve caused / All the lips I’ve kissed / All the love I’ve lost / I got kicked around / I’ve been black and blue / On my way to you,” that can make anyone stop in their tracks and reflect on a difficult time in their life or a relationship. “On My Way To You” is a very relatable love song that gives hope that hardships lead you to where you’re supposed to be.

Country music fans have a powerful new love ballad to listen to, which does not stray from a traditional country sound. Johnson has a new album Aint Nothin’ To It coming out January 18th, and I am looking forward to watching his continued success!”

Pick: “Hate It” – Tucker Beathard
Songwriters: Casey Beathard, Dakota Moniot, Tucker Beathard, Will King

“The moment Tucker Beathard started teasing clips from songs on his new album, I knew it was something special. When his debut album Nobody’s Everything was released, I listened to the whole album on loop, loving just about every track. This month I was between a few songs for my pick, but I kept coming back to Beathard’s “Hate It.” The lyrics are raw, heartbreaking, real, and relatable. I appreciate how the singer-songwriter taps into different life circumstances and emotions that aren’t always a centerpiece in songs. Not to mention, “Hate It” easily gets stuck in your head and the instrumentals mixed with the grittiness of Beathard’s voice are refreshing. Beathard as an artist is one to look out for, and truly has a special voice in country music. I encourage you to download “Hate It,” and the whole record, while you’re at it.”

[Watch] The Voice Season 15 Finale Contestants Perform With Country Stars

Last night, NBC’s hit singing competition show The Voice wrapped up its 15th season with the last four contestants, Chevel Shepherd, Chris Kroeze, Kirk Jay, and Kennedy Holmes. The four finalists were competing for the winning title and a record deal that will change their lives forever. The two-hour season finale was jam-packed with performances from a multitude of different artists like Dierks Bentley, John Legend, Marshmello and Bastille, Panic! at the Disco, and Halsey. While even bringing out judges Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson to join forces for a powerful Christmas duet. That wasn’t all for the finale performances, the finalists had a special musical collaboration for their last performance in the competition.

Luckily for us country music fans, there were some country stars in the making, Chevel Shepherd (Team Kelly) and Kirk Jay (Team Blake.) The two finalists got the opportunity to perform with artists we all know and love, Rascal Flatts and Dan + Shay.

Throughout the competition, Kirk Jay and Blake Shelton have become great collaborators and friends. Shelton has embraced Kirk’s undying love for country music and even praised the contestant saying, “Kirk has got this twang that nobody has ever had in country music before.” Giving the Shelton stamp of approval, Jay has won the hearts of many and even turned fellow judge Jennifer Hudson into a fan of the genre. Last night, his dream came true to share the stage with one of the best selling country groups of all time, Rascal Flatts, performing their latest single, “Back To Life.” The trio and the finalist poured out their hearts, giving the crowd a beautiful performance filled with emotion and undeniable talent.

Next up, was Kelly Clarkson’s very own country Tinkerbell, Chevel Shepherd. The champion coach took Shepherd under her wing, bringing the pure country singer all the way into the final four. Over their time in the competition, the two have formed a sister like bond with one another, ending with Clarkson praising her saying, “She’s everything you want your daughter to be, I hope my daughter sings and she sings like you!” The country Tinkerbell took the stage with Grammy Nominated Best Country Duo, Dan + Shay singing their latest number one single, “Speechless.” The duo and the finalist joined forces, giving everyone watching a female perspective of the hit song, while she stood in the middle belting out the lyrics and captivating the audience with their powerful vocals.

Before the big winner was announced, country superstar Dierks Bentley took the stage to perform his latest hit single, “Burning Man” off his ninth studio album, The Mountain. Bentley gave all he had while performing, not leaving the crowd disappointed for a moment. Throughout the performance, he was seen interacting with the audience, even stepping into the crowd to get as close as possible, while the camera panned to the fans cheering and singing along. The performance was energized making those watching at home wishing that they were there.

After the final four performed for the last time, it was the moment everyone was waiting for. Coming in fourth place was Team Jennifer’s Kennedy Holmes while following in third place was Team Blake’s country singer, Kirk Jay. The final two contestants came down to Team Blake’s Chris Kroeze and Team Kelly’s Chevel Shepherd. Leaving the audience waiting on the edge of their seats…and the winner is country Tinkerbell, Chevel Shepherd! A big congratulations to the winner and Team Kelly, who has now won two years in a row.

Luckily for us New Yorkers, Dan + Shay have recently added a New York City date to their spring 2019 tour, playing at Hammerstein Ballroom on March 7, 2019, with support act Morgan Evans.
