Scotty McCreery Goes Number At Country Radio with “Bottle Rockets”

Scotty McCreery earns the number single at country radio this week with his song “Bottle Rockets” featuring Hootie & The Blowfish. Get all the details here.

Since 2011, when he was seventeen, Scotty McCreery has surely become a country music superstar. With six number one singles already in his catalog, the singer-songwriter is adding another one to the bunch. His electric and nostalgic song, “Bottle Rockets” featuring the iconic Hootie & The Blowfish (Darius Rucker) is officially his seventh song to hit the top of the country radio charts.

“Bottle Rockets” was inspired during a writing retreat to pay homage to the songs of his youth. The track is catchy and a true anthem. According to the singer, “This song takes me back to those summers of having fun with no responsibilities with good times and good tunes. For me growing up in the Carolinas, Hootie & the Blowfish were just massive and such a huge part of great summers growing up. That’s what this song ‘Bottle Rockets’ is about.”

“Everybody’s got a summer that they can’t forget // They hold on to and go back to // Yeah, mine’s on the Carolina coast // Still burnin’ in my mind like a red sunset // Chasin’ embers ’til September // What I remember most // Bottle rockets in the sky // Bare feet in the sand // Bonfire in her eyes // Cold beer in a can // Moonlight on the waves // Her kiss in the dark // The smile on her face when she’d make me break out my guitar and play // Hold my hand // Hold my hand”

Congrats to Scotty McCreery on his seventh number one single! We are sure there are more number ones in the cards for him as he continues to crank out more music. Also, a big congrats to Rucker/Hootie & The Blowfish!

Ben Gallaher ‘Time’ – Album Review

Ben Gallaher’s new album, Time is out now, September 26th on all streaming platforms. Take a listen and read our full review below.

On his new album, Time, Ben Gallaher is truly ready for the spotlight. While many of today’s country stars can wear multiple hats as singers, songwriters, and guitarists, few are as strong in all three as Gallaher. Think John Mayer meets Keith Urban with hints of Bryan Adams and Kip Moore and you’ve got Gallaher.

A true triple threat, the Quartz Hill Records artist plays lead guitar on each of the album’s thirteen tracks, co-writing five. Produced by Neil and Patrick Thrasher, the collection blends country, rock, and pop, influenced by 80’s pop, 90’s country, 2000’s rock, and everything in between.

“I named the album Time because every song, every guitar riff and every live show only comes with time,” shares Gallaher in a statement. “And that’s exactly what went into making this record: time. These songs take me to different moments in my life and in my journey, all leading to finally making the record that I’ve always wanted to make.”

The album opens with “I’ll Take You,” a mid-tempo yet anthemic rocker that originally started as a ballad. Yet, with its infectious melodies and catchy instrumentation, it’s radio ready in a way that should instantly make Gallaher a chart topper. “I’ll take you over anybody any day, you like sunshine over rain,” He sings over driving guitars. “Your hand in my hand, Whatever life throws my way  I’ll take you over anybody any day.”

“Sometimes, turning a ballad into a tempo track doesn’t work at all, and it feels forced, but this time it was the most organic experience,” says Gallaher of the transition that the song took. “I started playing that riff, and it fell right where it needed to land. Country music has always been built on relatability, and if you love someone like this song is describing, you get that.”

Throughout the LP, it’s clear that Gallaher is a guitarist first, the riffs and instrumentation truly standing out in a way that’s exciting and yet not overdone. “Betcha Money” provides one such moment, as he accepts the challenge to turn a girl ‘country.”

Likewise, with “Dirt Ones,” he honors the grit of a road warrior chasing every mile, and on “Rearview,” he shines with a pop-country gem about holding onto the memories that truly matter.

“Mistakes” stands as the most pop-rock-leaning track on the record, echoing influences from the Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox Twenty, and the Gin Blossoms. With a triumphant roar, he declares, “Everything that don’t kill me, makes me stronger than I was before.”

Elsewhere, the album’s title track follows in a similar vein, an alterna-rock tune that stands out with its groovy bass line and breezy melody that is as lush as it is meaningful. “I wish I could move on like time,” He muses, a warm guitar melody lifting the lyrics.

“Whiskey on a Wound” is a gritty story song, one of Gallaher’s personal favorites. Speaking to The Music Universe, he reveals, “ I’ve always loved this song personally, but once I started playing it live several years ago, the fans always reacted with, “When is this song being released?!” It’s a special one to me because I can finally get this one out there. It’s been a long time coming!”

“Where Do You Go” stands out in its simplicity, Gallaher’s emotive rasp clinging to the sparse acoustic ballad that shows he’s both a skilled singer and storyteller. “Where do you go when your go-to’s gone?” He asks, almost pleading with sadness.

“Kinda Can’t Say No” is a seductive ode to irresistible attraction, while “Bullet” is a gorgeous ballad, a proclamation of a love worth dying for. Inspired by his wife and solidified by his young son, it’s a perfect song for a first dance or a Grey’s Anatomy montage sequence.

“If there ever comes a time // If there ever comes a day // I’d give my life if it kept you safe // I hope it don’t but just know if it came down to it // I’d take a bullet for you I’d take a bullet for you”

The album ends on a high note with “Stomp,” a raucous and rowdy showstopper that was built around a viral guitar lick. With Gallaher’s guitar skills at the forefront, he cleverly draws listeners in with ear-catching riffs before bellowing into a full blown barn burner.

“Sounds like a 12 gauge goin’ off // When they play a little thing called STOMP // STOMP ON A COPPERHEAD // STOMP LIKE YA STOMP OUT A MARLBORO RED // STOMP ON AN OLD FLAT BED // THEY’RE SIPPIN’ AND A PICKIN’ BACK IN THE SWAMP // THAT SHIT THEY’RE KICKIN’ MAKE YA WANNA STOMP”

Blending sharp songwriting, undeniable guitar chops, and a voice built for both grit and tenderness, this record feels like the start of something big. If Time is any indication, Ben Gallaher’s time to shine begins now.

Thomas Rhett Rounds Out ‘About A Woman (Deluxe)’ with 3 New Songs

Thomas Rhett’s readies deluxe edition of his album, About A Woman, featuring three new songs, out now, September 26th on all streaming platforms. Learn more below!

A Year ago, Thomas Rhett released his seventh full-length album, About A Woman. The record featured fourteen songs and an exploration of sounds, something Rhett has been successful at throughout his longstanding career. Over the last couple of months, Rhett has expanded on the project. Today marks an end of the era, the superstar officially added the final three songs to the project, calling it, About A Woman (Deluxe).

The final additions complete the set, which now features 25 songs in total. The final trio of songs are “Water,” “Chapter 10,” and “On a River.” Each song spotlights a different shade of emotional depth for the prolific artist. His charisma, honesty, and vulnerability continue to be pillars in all of Rhett’s projects, and this one is noe exception.

“I can’t even describe how much joy I’ve felt this summer,” shared Rhett in a recent press release. “It is unreal how much fans have made this new music part of their lives – they’ve come out to dance and sing along at shows, added favorites to their playlists and tuned in on the radio in a way that I will remember the rest of my life.”

The first of the three new songs, “Water” sets the tone, adding a groove to sensual and captivating vocals. The track leans into Rhett’s seamless genre-blending side, while still remaining true to who he is as an artist at his core. On, “Chapter 10,” the singer-songwriter brings a tender acoustic ballad. The song reflects on not giving up on a love story; despite the chapters that are unfolding. The track is emotionally-driven, a song that many people may find themselves in.

Finally, “On a River” brings a nostalgic edge to the project. Feeling straight out of Rhett’s journal, the singer is the perfect song to round out an incredibly innovative project. A melodic, true-blue country song, “On a River” is the story when all of this ends and you’re left growing old with your lover.

While About A Woman was already as good as it gets, these final songs brought a lot to the project. Once again, Rhett cements his spot in music history, landing firmly as one of the best country artists of our generation. To grab ticket stop the singer’s tour, head to his website here.

HARDY ‘COUNTRY! COUNTRY!’ – Album Review

HARDY’s new album, COUNTRY! COUNTRY!  is out now, September 26th on all streaming platforms. Take a listen and read our full review below.

For HARDY, country music has always been a focal point. And while the megatalented singer-songwriter has experimented with other sounds, most notably on 2024’s rock-laden QUIT!, he’s going back to his roots. On COUNTRY! COUNTRY!, out now, HARDY mixes traditional country instrumentation with sharp, clever lyricism for a record that feels authentically his.

“I just missed it,” HARDY reveals in a statement. “I missed my community. My peers. Plus, I love country music. I moved to town to write country songs. Going 10 years of writing 100+ songs a year, it was a nice palette cleanser to take a step away from that. Now I’m back. I’m fresh and ready to get right back into it.”

Produced by longtime collaborator Joey Moi, the twenty-track album covers everything from love and loss to dogs and hometown pride. From the opening chords of the title track to the reflective closer “Everybody Does,” HARDY invites listeners on a journey through all things country.

While the album still includes the raspy growl and driving guitars that were prevalent on QUIT!, there’s a more authentic country twang present here. “Favorite Country Song” is an immediate standout, an homage to the country songs that raised him. Namedropping everything from “Summertime” to “My Maria” to “Country Boy Can Survive” to “Sinners Like Me,” it’s evident that HARDY’s inspirations are as vast and diverse as his own catalogue.

On “Bro Country,” he nods to his past and the current state of the genre, the lyrics reading like a letter to the long lost art of the ‘bro country’ subgenre. “Some of y’all may not know this, but I started my career in Nashville as a songwriter, writing for my buddies like FGL, Morgan Wallen, Cole Swindell, Chris Lane, etc.” He says. “I know my way around a bro country song and I owe a lot to that era. But the vibe in country music has shifted lately, and I wrote a song about it.”

On songs like “I’d Go Crazy,” “Luckiest Man Alive” and “Girl with a Gun,” HARDY flexes his skills as a songwriter, embracing the simple things in life on “Luckiest” and promising eternal fidelity on “Girl.”

“Car That Drove You Away” offers another clever lyric, and is the only song he’s ever put on an album that he didn’t write. “I knew that I couldn’t beat it,” HARDY shares, “I knew when I heard it that it was one of the best songs I’ve heard in a long time and there’s nothing on this record that could compete with that.”

Elsewhere, HARDY spends a lot of time reflecting on life and family throughout the record. “Bottomland” shows a stripped and vulnerable man, while “Country in Me” and “Buck on the Wall” reflect on his upbringing.  “Take the Country and Run” finds him choosing small-town life over wealth, and “Gun to My Head” turns into a euphoric declaration of country pride.

Among the album’s most powerful moments are “Dog Years,” told from a dog’s perspective, and “Goodbye,” where HARDY grapples with the inevitability of losing the person he loves most. Both show his rare ability to balance vulnerability with grit.

Fans of HARDY’s more rowdy side are also in for a treat. “Keep It Country” and “Who Don’t” are tailor-made for the stage, redneck anthems that bring twang and fire in equal measure.

“Bedrooms in the Sky” is another highlight, pairing HARDY with Stephen Wilson Jr. With incredible guitar work and finger-picking, the pair harmonize on the celebration of country music.

“Where somebody’s gonna learn how to hunt // Somebody’s gonna learn how to fish // Somebody’s gonna pray for rain, then raise some grain// To feed a couple barefoot kids// You can build your bedrooms in the sky // You can swallow up my little town // But when the shit hits the fan //And the world’s just land // Country’s gonna come back around”

“Y’all Need Jesus” offers a moment of levity as HARDY snaps back at those who mock him online, musing “Y’all need Jesus and a Willie Nelson song, Ride that high horse somewhere you can leave my country ass alone, Y’all keep throwin’ stones, I’m gonna keep on droppin’ deer Y’all need Jesus and I need a beer.”

The LP ends with “We’re All Gonna Die” and “Everybody Does,” both of which have him speaking the hard truth that no one is immortal. On the former, he encourages listeners to seize the day, while on the latter, he reflects on the fact that, despite all our differences, we’re all eventually going to leave this world.

With COUNTRY! COUNTRY!, HARDY returns to the sound that started it all. It’s raw, reflective, rowdy, and rooted in his Mississippi upbringing. It’s a collection that only he could make, and it’s full of contenders for your future “Favorite Country Song.”

Karley Scott Collins ‘Flight Risk!’ – Debut Album Review

Karley Scott Collins’ debut album, Flight Risk  is out now, September 26th on all streaming platforms. Take a listen and read our full review below.

With a soulful voice and an undeniable gift for storytelling, country newcomer Karley Scott Collins is making her mark with her debut album Flight Risk, out now via Sony Music Nashville. The 16-track LP, co-written in full by the Florida native, showcases her mix of lyrical depth and heartfelt delivery.

Produced alongside Grammy winner Nathan Chapman, the project leans into heartbreak, a theme that perfectly complements Collins’ honeyed, aching tone. “It’s a special thing that really, only artists get to experience – turning pain and things that could’ve broken you into something you’re proud of,” Collins says. “Releasing a full album has been my goal since I started writing songs. I grew up collecting vinyl and listening to full records, so creating an album and telling an entire story from top to bottom is what I’ve always wanted to do.”

The LP kicks off with the roaring “Denim,” a fiery anthem aimed at a bad-boy ex. Sliding electric guitars punctuate her biting lyrics, just as she intended. “‘Denim’ is very specifically about my most recent ex – so when he hears it, someone will need to check on him,” she shares.

“Denim// Got into my blood I let him // Salt into the cut // Set fire and tell me it’s raining // Good liar you had me baby // Venom // One hell of a blue jean lesson // He know that he looks like // Sweet heaven and I loved him // The devil in denim”

On “Quit You,” Collins channels shades of Brandi Carlile, her voice cracking with raw emotion as she wrestles with unhealthy addiction to someone. Meanwhile, “Easy to Leave”is a ’90s-inspired ballad about a breakup that made moving on all too simple.

“But you made it easy // To lose your number // Call my mother // And tell her that you’re crazy // You know how to make it easy // To drive by your house // And not even slow down // Forget the way I kissed ya // I don’t even miss ya // Don’t know which side of you to blame // But don’t ya know you went and made it // Easy to love you // Then you made it easy to leave”

“Music to Cry To” is an especially clever bluesy ballad, while “Runner” finds her guarding her broken and beaten heart. The soaring “Shoot Out All the Lights,” co-written with Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia, Kelly Clarkson), builds into a theatrical country ballad that rivals the greats.

Still, Flight Risk isn’t all heartbreak. Collings lets loose on the script-flipping “Cowboy Shit” and beckons an undeniable attraction on “Bad Bad.” She gets her toes tapping to the poptastic “Left Me Alone,” as she realizes that she’s going to be just fine. “It’s just that moment you realize you’re okay, like ‘Now I can listen to Bob Dylan again, without thinking about you,’” she explains of the track. “That one’s pretty specific, in that I woke up one day and realized ‘Oh my God, I’m free. I’m okay.’”

Elsewhere, “Girlfriend” delivers playful early-2000s pop-rock energy, while “Heavy Metal” offers a gripping country tale of generational trauma and the weight of holding on too long.

One of the album’s most vulnerable moments comes with “Only Child,” where Collins reflects on the bittersweet solitude of growing up without siblings. “Got your own space, don’t have to share,” she sings, the chorus shifting from lighthearted to heavy as she confronts the loneliness of watching her parents age. “Used to not have to, and now you don’t get to, Share it with no one, And damn it’s lonely Only child.”

The LP ends with “Madman,” an introspective look at losing yourself and your sanity in the haze of someone else. “You made a madman out of me,” She claims, voice laden with emotion and realization. “Didn’t know reckless was something I could be // Somewhere between love and insanity, Oh, you made a madman, A madman out of me.”

With Flight Risk, Karley Scott Collins presents a collection that feels as intimate as pages from a diary, chronicling the highs and lows of her early twenties. It’s honest, relatable, and reminiscent of the kind of storytelling that propelled artists like Kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris, and Taylor Swift into superstardom.

“Ultimately, I want people to walk away feeling like they know me and some of my story,” she says. “I still have a long way to go and a lot of goals I’ve yet to reach, but there’s nothing in the world I’d rather be doing for the rest of my life.”

Justin Schools Collaborates with Averie Bielski on New Song “Giving In”

Justin Schools and Averie Bielski join forces on new song “Giving In,” out now, September 26th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

Country music is at its absolute best right now. While there are many established artists in the genre and rising artists that are growing their careers, there are also newer country artists that are ones to look out for it! Justin Schools is one of those artists. The singer-songwriter is incredibly talented at blending his 90s country sound with rock, giving fans a new sound to fall in love with. Today, he joins forces with incredible singer-songwriter, Averie Bielski on their new song “Giving In.”

On the stunning new song, Schools and Bielski shine. “Giving In” is an honest anecdote about the type of relationship that is on and off. Instead of committing to the breaking up, the protagonists decide to give in to the love. Both artists trade verses, adding to the perspectives of the song. However, the true stand-out is when their voices combine for beautiful harmonies in the chorus.

“I’ve tried getting by mixing whiskey and wine // Holding on in a hole in a wall // I’ve done all I can to not give a damn // But you know how to undo it all // We both know we can’t win this fight // I don’t know why we even try // We even up right here every time // So I’m giving up on giving you up again // Taking back all the leaving that I ever did // Moving on ain’t’ as easy as it should have been // it never is // So let’s just call it what it is // This heartbreak habit’s hard to end so // I’m giving up on giving you up again // I’m giving in”

Both Schools and Bielski truly turn heads on this song. Make sure to listen to “Giving In” ASAP!

Dustin Lynch and MC4D Put Country-EDM Spin on “Home To You”

Dustin Lynch and MC4D drop new song, “Home To You,” out now, September 26th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track here.

Platinum-selling country star, Dustin Lynch knows how to release a song that his fans love. In this era of his career, he has not shied away from collaborations, interesting melodies, and sonically different music. Today, in an unlikely, but incredible pairing, Lynch and twin-brother duo, MC4D. Together the EDM-genre blending duo and the country hitmaker created an absolute jam called “Home To You.”

Anchored in relatable and nostalgic country story-telling with themes of bonfires and late-nights weaved throughout, Lynch’s vocals push through with a gritty ear-worm quality. The production of course, something MC4D is prolific at, adds a whole other level to the already catchy and feel-good song. The unity between the country world and EDM world continues to work again and again, creating a truly anthemic song in “Home To You.”

“Home To You” is easily one of Lynch’s best song to date, marking his first ever official EDM release. For MC4D, the genre-blending is clearly working! The magic is there, and we are so excited for what’s to come next.

The Beginning:

In this week’s spotlight, we highlighted an artist that is truly carving his own path in the genre. Eddie of Eddie And The Getaway joined us to chat about his latest project, Tumbleweeds and Nicotine, his path to country music, and everything in between. Keep reading to learn more about his incredible story.

“I was born in Michigan, and I grew up in Arizona, and then I kind of started playing drums when I was about five, and then my parents kind of realized it was like the worst instrument to give a kid ’cause it’s loud as hell,” began Eddie. “So, I started playing guitar, and then kind of singing and doing all that stuff. As I got into middle school, started even playing in bands in Arizona.”

From an early age, music was the thing that captivated Eddie’s interest. He recalls having a lot of energy as a kid, always wanting to jam out on the guitar or the drums, as he constantly absorbed music. At around seven or eight years old, he attended a Coldplay concert, and it was in that moment that his future seemed clear to him. That dream was later confirmed again, when he attended a U2 concert.

“I just remember seeing that, and then a couple of years later, seeing U2 and my sister actually got pulled up on stage. Bono pulled her up on stage and they couldn’t pull me up because I was a chubby little fucker,” shared Eddie. “I just remember that moment and being like, I want to be the one pulling somebody up on stage, and I just know, like, what music did for me and my soul and the times, it kind of felt kind of, you know, you feel lost to different times, as you grow up and stuff.

The Turning Point:

Armed with a deep love for music and appreciation for the late 90s and early 00s era with artists like Nickelback and Third Eye Blind ruling the airwaves, Eddie knew music was his calling. “I started playing in bands in Arizona, and touring and playing in Mexico and, you know, Las Vegas and California, that region.”

Eventually, during pandemic times, Eddie made the move to Nashville, Tennessee. “When I was 19, so it was right before COVID hit, so I left Arizona State, finished up online, in Nashville and, yeah, just kind of just stumbled down. I knew I wanted it to do music from a super young age, but, like, how it all kind of happened was really random just meeting people on TikTok and, you know, writing and producing stuff for them and then having some of my own songs kind of take off.”

For Eddie, music was always his outlet. He recalls writing songs as early as in seventh grade. “I just remember listening to certain songs and kind of feeling like I wasn’t the only one that was going through what I was going through, and I feel like I owe that. […] I think when it comes to like, why I love music, it’s because of that, like being able to help people and almost talk about the things that are hard to talk about in real life, but you can say it in a song and people can relate to it. I think it’s the coolest thing ever.”

Despite knowing music was his path, Eddie shared feeling lost and certain times, when he first moved to Nashville, admitting that his mental health declined a bit before a friend helped him reconnect with his purpose.

“I was talking to a buddy of mine one day and nothing was really working for me as an artist, I’ve been writing and producing for other artists and their songs were popping off on TikTok. I was like, ‘why isn’t my stuff working’ and a buddy of mine was just like, ‘dude, like, you don’t write about actually like what you’ve told me and like what you talk about. Write something that’s real.”

Today:

Flash forward to today, Eddie And The Getaway is absolutely releasing music that is as real as it can be! The singers-songwriter recently released his six-song EP, Tumbleweeds & Nicotine, featuring songs that speak to both the artist’s musical influences and his uniqueness.

“I just kind of wanted to have a group of six songs that some leaned more country, which, you know, I grown up in Arizona like even though it wasn’t the South, it was still very country out there. […] So having that kind of background, that like Western kind of, you know, country kind of thing, and then also just like the rock influence. When you listen to my music, you’re going to get stuff that is over on the country side, stuff that’s over on the full rock side, and everything in between. So that was one of the kind of angles that I wanted to do as I was writing these.”

There are songs on the project that lean more rock and feel radio-ready, while other songs connect to the more vulnerable side. For example, the title track speaks to the latter. “I think storytelling wise, having songs about, you know, just absolutely partying like shot for shot, just like going ham and having, you know, a crazy experience. And all my songs are always firsthand experiences of stuff that I’ve gone through. And I always like, try to keep that authenticity when it comes to my songwriting,” he shared, adding, “ I guess the other kind of thing that’s on that topic is like “Tumbleweeds & Nicotine”, which is just going through life. It’s kind of a metaphor on constantly moving, trying to move forward, but also like having bad habits and things that kind of stick with you and trying to shake them. So it’s kind of just wanted to kind of cover a lot of the things that I’ve gone through in the last year.”

Tumbleweeds & Nicotine is just the beginning for Eddie. He is already hard at work in the studio, working on more new music, and currently on the road. “We’re getting right back into putting out music every month, putting out a new single every four weeks, and we’re gonna keep that going and we have our headline to our first headline tour coming up. at the beginning of October and going through the end of November. And then, yeah, just lots of new music, lots of playing shows.”
