The Beginning:

This week, we bring you our interview with the incredibly talented country music newcomer, Erin Kinsey. The singer-songwriter is one to look out for! Growing up in a small town outside of Dallas, Texas, Kinsey was born to be a star.

“When I was growing up, I tried a lot of different things, but I didn’t really fall in love with music as a passion or a career option until I was like 12,” she begins. Like many of us, Kinsey dabbled in different interests, until she really found her love in music.

“I got a guitar for Christmas one year and it just spiraled into me learning how to sing and play at the same time and learn to write my own stuff,” shared the songstress. “It was the one thing that I set my eyes on that I just could not get enough of. I was just obsessed with it.”

Honing in on her love for country musicians like Taylor Swift and Miranda Lambert, Kinsey took her craft seriously and worked to better herself in her teen years.“I started coming up to Nashville, when I was about 15 pretty consistently and by my senior year of high school, I graduated a year early, I was coming up almost once a month,” shared the singer.

When Kinsey finally graduated high school, her path to Nashville was clearly inevitable.

The Turning Point:

At just seventeen years old, and with her parents blessings upon her, Kinsey hightailed it to Music City. “I moved up to Nashville immediately after I graduated in 2018. I packed the U-haul all day, walked the stage at night and then drove off at 6AM. the next day,” she declared.

For her first few years in Nashville, it was really important to Kinsey to work on her craft. Armed with a desire to learn from the industry, she worked with everyone she could to grow her talent.

“For the first year and half to two years that I was here, I really just kept my head down and I wanted to get better at everything,” shared Kinsey. Adding, “Whether is was getting better in the writing room, getting better at guitar, or getting better at singing. I took the time to really grow and develop in a place where there was so many resources and every one knew what they were doing, and I did not.”

When the pandemic hit, Kinsey switched gears and began to focus on social media.“I really dove into more social media things at that time and tried to develop an audience,” stated the singer-songwriter. She found mild success pretty soon there after, and eventually her music went viral.

Today:

Kinsey got the courage to release her own music thanks to her fans on social media. First up, the singer teased debut single, “Drunk Too.” The song quickly gained over half a million views and likes on social media, adding to the singer’s growing confidence.

“At the root of the song, it’s really about embarrassment […] We went in the room and I had come up with the idea and the melody in the car on the way there,” she shared about the song. “It was the first song that I wrote that no matter how much time went by, I was really excited about it and that excitement never really went away.” The ballad was an incredible accomplish for the newcomer.

What followed was her song, “Just Drive,” a song that went unmistakably viral on social media. The upbeat, romantic song was inspired by Kinsey’s relationship with her longtime boyfriend and her desire to just be with him and drive around, listening to music. Recalling a past date in high school with him, going to a fancy restaurant for the first time, Kinsey remembers the feeling vividly.

“He made a playlist and we were listening to it together,” she began, “I remember about halfway there, a thought came into my mind of just like I wish it was further away because I’m having so much fun with him driving around.”

Most recently, Kinsey released her third song, the sassiest of them all, “Better On Me.” The new single was written with the same group of writers as the the former. It is already gaining traction on social media, and the singer is so proud of it, as she should be.

The sky is the limit for Kinsey going forward! Fans can expect more new music coming in 2022 and more music video content coming on her YouTube channel. “I’m going to be releasing more new music soon and I’m really excited to put that out into the world.”

Kidd G: ‘Down Home Boy: Gone Since Last October (Deluxe)’ – Album Review

Kidd G’s debut album Down Home Boy: Gone Since Last October (Deluxe) is out now, December 24th, on all streaming platforms. Check out our full review and listen to the brand new music below.

With almost one million followers on TikTok alone, Kidd G is leading the pack in this new wave of country music. His eclectic sound and honesty is attracting fans across the world. Today, the singer released his the deluxe version of his full-length album, Down Home Boy: Gone Since Last October.

Featuring eighteen original songs, the artist, whose real name is Jonathan Gabriel Horne, is a writer on all of the tracks. Kidd G features the four brand new songs first on the project. They include “I Don’t Wanna,” Last October,” “Use A Drink,” and “Only 16.” The singer co-wrote each of the four new tracks.

The first song is a fun-loving, jam that will resonate with the singer’s fanbase. The vibe continues you on “Use A Drink.” “Last October,” one of our favorite new songs is a song similar to the honest of Morgan Wallen’s “Livin’ The Dream.” The honesty continues on “Only 16.”

The project continues with some of the songs that started it all for the singer, including “Down Home Boy,” and “Paper Hearts (F-150).” The former is an ode to his upbringing, a common theme on the record. On the other hand, the latter is an introspective song that has fans flocking to him.

“Paper hearts in the glovebox of my F-150 (F-150) // And I might just take one out and light it up // And throw it out the window //Because I’m tipsy”

Similarly, Kidd G’s previously released song “Summer In A Small Town” has become a fan-favorite. The new song has summer romance, fun, and living the good life written all over it. Visually appealing both lyrically and within the music video, Kidd G makes every listener want to live in a small town. His country boy vocals are on full display in this fun-loving and sweet country song.

Kidd G leans into his romantic side even more on “What It’s Like,” “I Think I Love Her,” and “Ordinary Girl.” “What It’s Like” is a clever confession of liking someone. He utilizes country music staples with lyrics like “how does it feel to have a country boy’s heart racing,” as he professes his love for a special someone. On “I Think I Love Her,” the singer expresses his adoration and love for a girl yet again. If the first two songs are precursors to love, “Ordinary Girl” is a true-blue declaration of true love in a more modern and funky approach.

Leaning into his emo-music roots, “If Heaven Had A Phone” is one of the most poignant songs off the project. Anyone who has ever lost someone and missed someone can relate to this heartfelt and touching single. Kidd G leans into the vulnerability again on “Whiskey & Wine,” a fan-favorite song.

Kidd G puts words to a different kind of heartbreak on “Break Up Song.” The song starts off melancholy, but quickly reminds us of all the things that are waiting for us on the other side of a break-up. He is all of us on this catchy tune.

“The truth is I don’t believe a word that you said // The hard part is that I knew that you’re gone // The worst part is that I gotta move on // Yeah, the worst part is that I even had to make this song // Cheers to a break-up song”

On “Folks Back Home,” Kidd G clearly shares his story of growing up in the country. He shows pride for his small-town upbringing yet again. Finally, the record wraps with the pensive song, “Last Call.” Kidd G struggles with his demons from a broken relationship on the moody, yet captivating song.

Overall, Kidd G’s debut release is like nothing you have ever listened to before. And that’s a good thing! Clearly influenced by hip-hop, emo, and country music, Kidd G’s sound is one that’s all of his own. Fans should definitely give this record a listen.

The Best Country Music Christmas Songs

No genre appreciates the true meaning of Christmas more than country music! Artists of today and old have been covering traditional holiday songs and creating original ones based on their experiences now and growing up. Here are ones we think are done the best!

Best Christmas Covers

“The First Noel” – Gabby Barrett

This is a hard song to sing, but it seems as though Barrett had no trouble reaching those extended notes at the end of the song.

“Silver Bells” – Brett Young

Young’s soft vocals capture all the sights and sounds of the holiday season.

“Sleigh Ride” – Runaway June

The girls do a mostly A cappella version of this classic country hit, adding in some sleigh bells, fiddle, and steel guitar, giving it a unique sound.

“Run Run Rudolph” – Luke Bryan

Not a commonly covered song, Luke Bryan mimics the original’s rock-n-roll spirit.

“Santa Baby” – Kelly Clarkson

Clarkson gives this seductive song a whole new feel in her recently released Christmas album, When Christmas Comes Around.

“I’ll Be Home For Christmas” – Rascal Flatts

The three harmonies make a beautiful ballad about returning home to your loved ones on Christmas.

“Mary, Did You Know” – Carly Pearce

A beautifully covered version of this religious anthem about our savior.

“You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” – Darius Rucker

Rucker released a full-length Christmas album in 2014. His cover of the classic Dr. Seuss jingle stands out.

“Last Christmas” – Taylor Swift

It’s fitting that Taylor Swift covers this breakup Christmas song so well. Did she choose this one because she sounded great on it or for another specific reason?

“Little Drummer Boy” – Carrie Underwood

Underwood’s vocal never cease to amaze, but her son Isaiah steals the show when he adorably joins his mom after the first verse.

Best Original Songs

“Take Me Home for Christmas” – Dan + Shay

The boys beg their girls to take bring them home and show them their Christmas traditions; it’s the only thing wish on their list.

“We Need Christmas” – Maddie & Tae

Written last year during the pandemic, the girls describe the importance of Christmas and how it gives us hope and reminds us of the most important part of the year: spending time with family.

“Christmas in Blue Chair Bay” – Kenny Chesney

Only Chesney can make singing about island life during Christmas sound so wonderful.

“Glittery” – Kacey Musgraves ft. Troye Sivan

Kacey Musgraves showcases her gentle vocals as she compares Christmas decorations to the feeling she gets with this particular person.

“I’ll Be Your Santa Tonight” – Keith Urban

In this cleverly written song by Urban and Shane McAnally, he sings about how being alone on Christmas can feel extra lonely, but he can come over and make everything alright.

“Christmas Always Finds Me” – Ingrid Andress

In this piano ballad, Andress mentions no matter where or how old she is, the holiday spirit will never leave her.

“Christmas in the County” – Thomas Rhett

Thomas Rhett describes the simplicity behind a Christmas celebration in the country as compared to the big city.

“Naughty List” – Mitchell Tenpenny

Mitchell Tenpenny released a whole Christmas album this year, but this one may be the most unique. He describes a Christmas spent at his girlfriend’s parent’s house, and after sneaking into her room at night, he knows he is bound for Santa’s naughty list.

“Lit This Year”- Florida Georgia Line

In this fun track, the boys discuss what Christmas was like at their house; lit lights and lit family members.

“Mr. Christmas” – Brett Eldredge

Eldredge has embodied the holiday spirit more than any other country artist. He’s currently in the middle of yet another Holiday Tour, stopping in Vegas, Nashville, Boston, New York, and Chicago. On top of his 18-track Glow album in 2016, he released eleven new songs on October 22.
