The Beginning:

Five years ago, we introduced you to an up and coming artist that we truly believed in. Today, we get to retell her story and celebrate the upcoming sophomore record that is releasing this Friday, October 10th. We chatted with singer-songwriter, Priscilla Block about the incredible last five years, her new record, and everything in between. Keep reading to learn more.

Growing up in North Carolina, Block always had a penance for music. She sang worship music at church with her mother, and eventually took an interest in guitar. “I was the girl learning all the Taylor Swift songs on the guitar,” she laughs, telling us, “I wrote my first song when I was 15, and I just fell in love with writing and performing for people. Anyone that would listen to me, I would play for.”

For Block, songwriting was always an important part of the process. “I was a songwriter before I was ever an artist. I love songwriting. It’s in my heart and my bones, it’s what makes my love country music even more.” Besides Swift, Block drew inspiration from artists like Shania Twain and Martina McBride, but she also listened ago a lot of pop and rap, namedropping artists like Cardi B and Usher.

Armed with a desire to make her dream a reality, Block took a chance on herself.

The Turning Point:

Straight out of high-school, Block headed to Nashville, Tennessee, where she currently resides. At first, she tried to make it in the music industry, all while going to school and working full-time, but it came apparent to her shortly after her move that it was an all or nothing type of thing. “One day, I decided that I just needed to give it a go. I quit my job, I quit school and just started networking like crazy in Nashville,” adding later, “I would go to shows, ask people to write that I loved their songs, and just really put myself in uncomfortable situations for the first little bit until I really established my core group of people in Nashville.”

Eventually, Block met her crew, blew up on TikTok, and signed her record deal with Universal Music Group Nashville in September of 2020. Her first radio single, “Just About Over You” impacted country radio, and it was off to the races.

For Block and her team, her raw, unapologetic, and unfiltered nature were important components in her music and in growing her diehard fanbase over the last five years. Block’s released her debut project, singles, and has been non-stop touring since the moment she started performing.

“I’ve been running non-stop on the road for five years. We’ve had a ton of headlining shows, I’ve opened for people,” shared the singer, “We just celebrated my first number one with Justin Moore, “You, Me, & Whiskey. It’s definitely been a rollercoaster the past five years, but it’s been great. I feel like my career has been steady climb, which is something that I’m really proud of.”

Today:

Flash forward to today, Block is embarking on her most vulnerable feat to date. Her brand new album, Things You Didn’t See comes out this Friday, filled with songs that speak to her growth as an artist and as a person in the spotlight.

“This record took me a lot longer than I thought it would. I was going to put out my album last year, and it was going to be called a completely different thing and it was a different vibe, and long story short, I felt like I needed to pump the brakes on the project, and figure out what it is that I’m wanting to say on this next record,” she shared, adding, “It inspired me to dig in a little bit different in my life over the past couple of years, and where I’ve been. What we had kind of originally was just really fun vibes, something people would expect, but this project I wanted to challenge myself to dive in deeper and show a side of me that maybe people haven’t seen.”

Things You Didn’t See is a project that will allow fans to see all sides of the songstress. “I may seem like this big, bold, confident girl, but there are days that I don’t feel like that girl or the love of my life, that’s you know part of this too that people really haven’t seen that side of me. There’s also a lot that goes into my childhood and how I grew up, that I really kind of feel like when you listen through to this record, you start to understand like what I am the way that I am.”

This record is the moment for Block to tell her full story. “Anyone who hasn’t gotten it or hasn’t really understood my vibe, like I really hope when they listen through to this record, that they’ll feel like they got to know me through this record.”

While fans eagerly wait for the record, Block is hard at work putting together the tour and the creative for the upcoming headlining tour. “I’m challenging myself with this tour. I want it to be something that fans have never seen from me. We’re working through the creative right now. I know that it’s going to be amazing, and I want to continue to put out new music and grow and become the biggest artist I can be,” she shared, finally adding, “I’m really hoping that this record shocks people in the best way.”
