Travis Denning Cuts Deep on Clever Revenge Breakup Anthem “ABBY”

Travis Denning, an upcoming country star signed with Mercury Nashville and released a vengeful and punch single, “ABBY”. This track follows Denning’s success with his current top 20 single “After a Few”, a song that details lustful and romantic feelings after a few drinks. The release of “ABBY” is extra special: not only did it come out on Valentine’s Day, but the sharp-witted title that doubles as an acronym for “Any Body But You” caught the attention of fans after Denning played the tune a few times on the road.

Denning is known for his songwriting abilities, but this new single was written by Ashley Gorley, Matt Jenkins, and Chase McGill. The singer recounts exclusively to PEOPLE that “the minute [he] heard this song, [he] knew [he] had to record it, because [his] instant reaction was, ‘man, I wish I wrote that”.

The Georgia native sings with passion and fury, all the while not taking the concept of the song too seriously. Beginning with cunning, straight to the point lyrics, the listener is immediately clued into the song’s sassy way of telling a story.

“I hate to break it to ya girl, but we’re breaking up // I’ve put up with your drama just about long enough // And now you wanna know if there’s somebody else // Well if I’m being honest then the answer is yes // And her name is Abby, that’s anybody but you”

The bold and frisky tune begins with a fast-paced, playful riff that leads into the explosive country rooted chorus. Denning’s powerful vocals belt the song’s punch line, “And her name is Abby,”, leaving the listener with a captivating sense of emotion and strong desire to stand up and shout.

Throughout the song, Denning smoothly transitions back and forth from a fresh, pop sound to his deep country core. The listener is constantly kept on their toes for more nimble digs and compelling melodies.

Denning has an exciting touring schedule, as he’s starting off 2020 with Dustin Lynch’s STAY COUNTRY TOUR and will then look toward his role as a special guest on Sam Hunt’s THE SOUTHSIDE SUMMER TOUR.
