If you’ve been on social media recently, you’ve most likely seen your favorite country stars, and other celebrities, wearing T-shirts emblazoned with the message “This Shirt Saves Lives.” The viral awareness campaign is in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, and helped inspire more than 90,000 monthly donors to support St. Jude’s mission.
Since launching last year, the campaign has reached tens of millions of people, across social media, thanks to the likes of Luke Bryan, Reba, Kelsea Ballerini, Thomas Rhett, and so many more. According to the website for #thisshirtsaveslives, “Today, the treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to 80% since the hospital first opened more than 50 years ago. And we won’t stop until no child dies of cancer.”
In addition to the ‘This Shirt Saves Lives” social media push, the campaign will be supported by St. Jude radio partners to cover more than 150 markets in December. Curious where the donations go or how they help? One month of giving will provide a St. Jude family with meals for one day in the Kay Kafe, the St. Jude Cafeteria. Six months of giving will help cover costs associated with physical therapy and other forms of treatment for a St. Jude Patient. One year of giving will pay for one red blood cell transfusion.
Want to join the movement? It’s simple! Pledge to donate $20 a month and receive a T-shirt. Then take a picture in your fancy new shirt, and then post it to social media using the hashtag #ThisShirtSavesLives.
