The Dixie Chicks Are BACK with “Gaslighter”

If you’re anything like us, you grew up listening to three sassy women on your radio airwaves. Fourteen years later, the Dixie Chicks are finally back, and ready to give fans new music. Just today, the talented ladies released the title track to their forthcoming studio album, Gaslighter.

The new song comes with a powerful message or definition of what the title actually means. According to the ladies, a ‘gaslighter’ is “a psychological manipulator who seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a group, making them question their own memory, perception or sanity.” The word itself is a not so subtle message about what the ladies have endured as products of their environment back in the heyday; however, the song is something special.

“Gaslighter / Denier / Doing anything to get your ass farther / Gaslighter / Big timer / Repeating all of the mistakes of your father / We moved to California and we followed your dreams / I believed in the promises that you made to me / Swore that night ‘til death do us part / But you lie-lie-lie-lie-lied”

“Gaslighter” highlights all the incredible things women have accomplished over decades and decades, featuring clips in their video of old school black and white images and women in the service. The Dixie Chicks created a video and a song that is completely relevant to the times, all while being strong and independent women. The supergroup is sticking it to the man!

The Dixie Chicks were popular in a time in society, where having a voice, other than a singing voice, was not acceptable in country music. Talking about taboo subjects and using your platform for social justice or to promote causes you care about was not the norm. Now, over a decade later, the talented trio is joining the new wave of country musicians and strong females in the industry and leaving no stone unturned.
