Thomas Rhett Releases Deluxe Version of ‘Life Changes’

Thomas Rhett, ‘Life Changes Deluxe Version’

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of his platinum-selling album Life Changes, country superstar Thomas Rhett, has released a deluxe version of the record. This time, with three brand new songs: “Country Gold,” “Cardboard Heart” and “When We’re 80.”

The digital version also includes two different remixes of “Leave Right Now” and the radio edit versions with updated lyrics of both “Leave Right Now” and his latest number one single “Life Changes.” In a recent press release regarding “Life Changes”, Rhett said, “This was the song that inspired the name of the album, and is so special for me because it’s my family’s story. It’s amazing that so many people have also been able to connect it to their own stories.”

The singer-songwriter scored four number ones from this album, since it’s release on September 8th, 2017. Including the title track, along with “Craving You,” “Unforgettable” and “Marry Me”.

Co-written by Ashley Gorley, Jesse Frasure and Rhett Akins, the added song “Country Gold” on the new deluxe album is an upbeat anthem about Rhett partying down south with some friends.

“Ain’t no gate code, just hop that fence / Ain’t no dress code, baby, come on in / Just pour your worries on Sonic ice / And we gon’ get you feelin’ alright / Got that country gold comin’ out of your radio / A little more funk at the end of your gravel road / Ain’t tryin’ to brag, but we got it all figured out / That’s how we do it in the dirty south,” Rhett sings in the chorus.

The next addition, “Cardboard Heart,” co-penned by Jesse Frasure, Rhett Akins and Sean Douglas, is an up-tempo heartbreak song.

Sometimes I wish I had a cardboard heart / It wouldn’t hurt me when you tore it apart / And movin’ on wouldn’t be so dang hard / If I only, if I only had a cardboard heart / Fold it up, I could just fold it up and move on

The final new song, “When We’re 80,” co-composed by Jesse Frasure, John Osborne and Shane McAnally, is a TR-fashioned love song about his relationship when he and his wife, Lauren are 80-years-old.

Rhett sings, “Tell me it’ll always be this way / You’ll be even more beautiful when you’re gray and crazy / We’ll still kiss and we might cuss / Just tell me that we’ll still be us when we’re 80.”

Rhett is up for three 2018 CMA Awards, including Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year and Music Video of the year for “Marry Me.” He also received two American Music Award nominations, including Favorite Male Artist – Country and Favorite Album – Country for Life Changes.

Record Breaking Crowds Withstand the Storm for Kenny Chesney

This past weekend, fans from New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut packed up their buses, trucks, and coolers to head to MetLife Stadium. Each year, Kenny Chesney brings his star-studded line up to the home of the New York Giants and the New York Jets and year after year “Kenny Day” turns out to undoubtedly be one of the best concerts of the summer. This year was no different. New York Country Swag gathered 130 friends and followers on two buses and made it to the parking lots early. We played cornhole, drank beers and lived the brand’s lifestyle for the entire afternoon, all while listening to our favorite country songs.

When it came time to head into the stadium, fans flocked to the security lines to catch Brandon Lay, the opening act on the tour. Lay entertained by playing his latest singles “Speakers, Bleachers and Preachers” and “Yada, Yada Yada”. Just as Lay’s set was coming to a close, dark clouds rolled in and MetLife took the necessary precautions to protect all of the concertgoers by postponing the show until the severe weather had passed. The heavy rain and thunder did not dampen the spirits of the crowd who huddled together in the concourse. After about 45 minutes, the thunderstorm was over and fans headed back to their places in the crowd, patiently waiting for Old Dominion to take the stage.

For a brief moment, as the band took the stage playing their biggest hits, the clouds gave way to an incredible sunset. Kicking off their set with their second no. 1 single, “Song for Another Time”, then keeping it old school with “Wrong Turns” they relished in the fact that the entire stadium was now filled to catch their set. “Since the last time we were here, our lives have changed dramatically,” lead singer Matt Ramsey stated referring to releasing their sophomore album and adding even more number one songs to their repertoire since opening for Kenny Chesney on his 2016 Spread the Love Tour. The rain didn’t hold off long, but the band didn’t miss a beat, appropriately singing “New York at Night” which features Brad Tursi on vocals and their current single “Hotel Key”. They closed their set with one of the nights first sing-a-longs to “Snapback”.

Next to the stage was an artist who is sure to be a future Entertainer-of-the-Year, Thomas Rhett. Although the now superstar has headlined his own tour for the past few years, it has never made its way up to the NY/NJ area, making it the first time in a while that Rhett has performed a full show in the New York area. Rhett’s absolute electric personality and onstage presence was felt buzzing throughout the entire stadium as he played his smash hits from all three of his studio albums including “It Goes Like This”, “Craving You” and “Vacation”.

“Thank you for being kind people, I just look at your faces and you all seem like kind people out here tonight, thank you so much,” Rhett said during “Die a Happy Man” “I’m not going to get sappy, but this is my last show on the Kenny Chesney tour and I feel like I’ve learned more in 17 shows, than I’ve learned in my whole eight years of touring, I just want to say thank you so much to Kenny Chesney wherever he is standing right now.” His genuine gratitude towards the fans and the mega country star that brought him along for this run on the Trip Around the Sun Tour was apparent and the audience ate it up. Asking the 50,000 plus fans to sing the chorus back to him was a highlight of the night, as he closed out the song by singing “…if this the last show that I ever get to play in my whole life I swear then I could die a happy man.” Check out our exclusive video of the emotional moment here.

Over an hour later than expected due to the storm, the man of the night took the stage dressed in his signature jeans, boots and cowboy hat. In total, 58,642 fans were on their feet, breaking his own MetLife stadium record and beating out giant acts such as Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, and Taylor Swift if you add up the concert attendances in the same number of appearances. His set was filled with the usual Chesney hits from his giant career including “Beer in Mexico”, “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem” and “American Kids”. Throughout the night, the entire stadium was lit up, allowing Chesney to see the at-capacity crowd singing and dancing along. Drenched in sweat, the singer ran up and down the catwalk giving all he had for the fans who had withstood rain and thunderstorms to see him perform.

“Coming back year after year I’ve learned a lot about this audience,” he stated in between songs. “Everybody here has a lot in common, we work hard, we play hard, we learn hard and we really love music.” Not only is he one of the industry’s best entertainers, but he always brings the most amazing country acts on tour with him and makes sure they get the recognition that they deserve. Old Dominion joined him on stage once again to perform “Save it For a Rainy Day” which Brad Tursi and Matthew Ramsey co-wrote, Thomas Rhett took the stage for “When the Sun Goes Down” and surprise guest David Lee Murphy showed up to sing their current single “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” as well as “Dust on the Bottle”. Closing out the night with Brandon Lay, Chesney sang one of the very first songs he ever released “She Thinks My Tractors Sexy”.

It was certainly a night to remember for all who attended, further proving that waiting all summer long for Kenny Chesney to come to town is worth it every single year.

Country Music Stars Head To ‘The Voice’

This week NBC announced that two of country music’s biggest stars will be joining The Voice as team advisors for season 15. Traditionally, each of the coaches bring in a guest adviser to help the contestants during The Battle Rounds. Keith Urban and Thomas Rhett will be advising teams with Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson. Urban is no stranger to singing competition show, he was a coach on The Voice Australia back in 2012. Urban was also a judge on American Idol for four seasons on Fox. Urban will be joining Shelton’s team for the battle rounds, while Rhett will be joining Clarkson’s team. This will be Rhett’s first time advising and mentoring on a major competition show. The other two advisers will be Halsey and former The Voice team coach, CeeLo Green.

Urban is currently on his Graffiti U World Tour with special guest Kelsea Ballerini which will hit NYC on October 27th at Barclays Center. Rhett is currently on the road with Kenny Chesney on his Trip Around the Sun tour which will hit MetLife on August 18th. The Voice airs Monday, September 24th on NBC.

[Listen] Danielle Bradbery & Thomas Rhett Team Up for “Goodbye Summer”

Danielle Bradbery’s album I Don’t Believe We’ve Met was one of our favorites released last year. The personal collection of songs showcased the songstress and her ability to reintroduce herself as a grown woman, in this industry and as a songwriter with meaningful thoughts to pour into her lyrics. Just as the last full month of summer approaches, Bradbery released today “Goodbye Summer” an ode to a summer romance that ended too quickly. On this new version of “Hello Summer” which is on her record, Bradbery features country superstar Thomas Rhett adding an undeniable depth as a duet.

“Thomas Rhett was one of the first mentors I had in Nashville and we’ve become really good friends over the years. He’s like a big brother to me, so to be able to record a song he wrote was incredibly special, I remember when I first heard the demo, I actually jammed to it with Thomas Rhett’s vocal on it as if it wasn’t even going to be mine,” Bradbery says in a recent press release. “Now to have the opportunity to re-record the song with him – it’s a dream scenario.”

Top 10 NYCountry Swag Moments of 2017 – #4: “The Day of 4 Shows”…

The countdown continues as we give you our Top 10 New York Country Swag Moments of 2017.

Typically when people think of New York City, they do not necessarily think of country music. However, we are here to change that perception. NYC and its surrounding areas are the home to at least one country show a week, if not more! Don’t believe us? just subscribe to our Weekly Round-Up, which highlights all upcoming events in the area. We promise to always have something to look forward to for the country fan in NYC.

In addition to shows and special events, artists often travel from Nashville to New York daily to promote their new music. This brings us to our Top 10 New York Country Swag Favorite Moment of 2017, #4: “The Day of Four Shows.” Back in September, we caught up with four different country performances all in the same day, proving that not only is country music here, but it is thriving.

Our first stop was to the NASH FM Studios for a Stage 17 show featuring Thomas Rhett in honor of his brand new album, Life Changes. Rhett answered questions for the NASH FM DJs and played songs off the new album including “Craving You” and “Unforgettable”. Our second stop brought us to Times Square for one of our special Swag Sessions featuring Scooter Brown Band. The three men wearing cowboy hats played songs off their latest album, American Son and answered questions about their backstory and all about the new music. Check out the video recap below.

As the sun began to set, we found ourselves back in Bryant Park for our third country show of the day, an Opry Circle Throwdown featuring Morgan Evans and Michael Ray. Both rising artists played on the Southwest Porch on a warm September night to fans and New Yorkers passing by in Bryant Park. Full recap and more pictures here.

Finally, we ended our ‘Day of 4 Shows’ as we headed to Dustin Lynch‘s iHeart album release show. Lynch played songs off his album, Current Mood as well as some fan favorites. Click here for our full First Impression of his latest project.

15 Songs We Wish Were Singles in 2017…

Sometimes, the songs buried deep in an artists’ album are even better than the singles sent to radio. Here are our Top 15 favorite cuts from albums’ released this year (so far), in the order that they were released.

Lauren Alaina’s “Three”

On her sophomore album, Alaina has plenty of songs that are raw and honest but “Three”, a real look at what you miss when you follow your dreams, is definitely a standout on the record.

Key Lyrics: “A lot of miles, a lot of tears / You’ve given me some of my best years / There’s so much I had to miss out on / Six years of missing home for three minutes on the radio”

Brett Young “Olivia Mae”

A smooth vocal and powerful lyrics, Brett Young delivers on this love song from his self-titled debut album.

Key Lyrics: “Olivia Mae I hope it ain’t just me / From where I’m standing I can see / Us finding our own kind of meant to be / Maybe I’m wrong, maybe I’m right / But I just had to try / Olivia may I?”

Little Big Town “Lost in California”

This melody is addicting and this entire album is incredible, but this song blends harmonies with soft simple imagery.

Sunny Sweeney “Bottle by My Bed”

This song is meaningful and touches on a topic that is usually not talked about, Sunny Sweeney’s voice along with a beautiful cello make this song one of the best on the album.

Key Lyrics: “I’d rather be in a carpool lane than this big cold limousine / I’d trade every pair of high heel shoes for a high chair in the dining room / Don’t even know you yet but I know I love you”

Steve Moakler “Siddle’s Saloon”

Based on his grandfather’s bar, this song perfectly describes a local spot to find a rowdy good time. Take a listen and let this great tune get stuck in your head.

Charlie Worsham “Southern By the Grace of God”

We love this tune from Charlie Worsham, simply put it sheds light on living life in the south in the best possible ways.

Closing out his most recent self-titled album, “Castaway” highlights Eldredge’s perfect tone and the melody will pull at your heartstrings.

Old Dominion “Still Writing Songs About You”

On an album full of potential singles and number one hits, this song which we first heard at a writers round last summer in NYC is a highlight on Happy Endings.

Key Lyrics: “You on the sunny Santa Monica freeway / You on a bed and a mini bar three-day haze / With your hair and my heart all a mess in the morning / I’ve gotten drunk on whiskey and women / Woke up in places that we’ve / never been in / Spending all night and all day trying to say something new / But I’m still writing songs about you”

Midland “More Than A Fever”

One of our favorite new acts out of Nashville, this trio is bringing back traditional country music and “More Than A Fever” is a great mid-tempo jam that’s all about love makin’.

Key Lyrics: “Your hands all over me like they were velvet / There’s no way to temper this desire / I’m on fire tonight / More than a fever / Girl, you’ve got the red line on the rise / More than a fever / And I don’t wanna break it tonight”

Thomas Rhett “Life Changes”

The title track of Thomas Rhett’s latest album features one of many different vibes on the record, this particular song is more of R&B and spoken word than country but Rhett narrates his life story featuring his wife Lauren and the changes they have experienced with their growing family.

Russell Dickerson “Would You Love Me”

Russell Dickerson has said that his debut album Yours, is a 12 song love letter to his wife Kailey and “Would You Love Me” is no exception. This reggae infused jam will definitely be stuck in your head.

Lee Ann Womack “Hollywood”

Off of her latest full-length LP, The Lonely, the Lonesome & the Gone, “Hollywood” has an ominous tone about a relationship falling apart.

Kelsea Ballerini “In Between”

Right in the middle of her sophomore album is this remarkable song about growing up and feeling stuck between a girl and a woman.

Lee Brice “Songs in the Kitchen”

Also released earlier this month, Lee Brice’s self-titled album features his most vulnerable and personal songs. “Songs in the Kitchen” even mentions Lee and his brother Lewis (who is also an artist) singing in the car when they were kids.

Morgan Evans

5. Morgan Evans – Moving to the Nashville to pursue his music career further, a native of New Castle, Australia, Morgan Evans just released his first U.S single “Kiss Somebody”. The track is light, the perfect combination of pop-country and Evans’ smooth voice serenades his listeners. After seeing Keith Urban perform back in 2004, he knew that was the path he wanted to follow. Back in Australia, Evans’ band consisted of his brother and his best friend. When heading to the states, he found it was hard to find that chemistry, so he taught himself how to use a loop pedal and acquired the ability to tour alone. Along with his Australian accent, and his ability to create a backup band all on his own, he is a standout in the country genre.

NYCS First Impression: Thomas Rhett, Life Changes + Exclusive Set at NashFM 94.7’s Stage 17

The highly anticipated third album from country star Thomas Rhett is finally here and it was worth the wait. Thursday afternoon lucky winners got a chance to sit at Nash FM’s Stage 17, an intimate setting to hear songs off of Life Changes and were let in on insight about the new record before it hit shelves. The record showcases authentic, real-life stories that Rhett couldn’t make up if he tried. On first listen through, so many different sounds are recognized whether it’s his signature blend of smooth R&B with a country flair (“Kiss Me Like A Stranger”), fast-paced rap-like verses (“Life Changes”) or even an ode to doo-wop (“Sweetheart”) the fourteen tracks on the record offer something for every fan.

“I write best about what I know about, I know how to write those things cause I’ve lived them,” Rhett explained yesterday at the exclusive Nash FM 94.7 Stage 17 performance. Thanks to social media everyone seems to know every facet of Rhett’s life including his true love for his wife Lauren and their two baby girls, one which they adopted earlier this year from Uganda. Nash FM’s Katie Neal asked what has been the best and worst advice you’ve gotten since becoming a dad. “The days are short and the years are long but I know I’ll look back in 10 years and miss this time” Rhett explained. “And the worst advice is probably something Luke Bryan told me” he laughed.

Instead of shying away from personal stories, each song off the new album highlights them in a genuine way. Fans can feel even more connected to one of their favorite artists by his honesty throughout his songwriting. “As long as I can be honest about the songs I put on the radio, that’s all I can do” Rhett explained to Nash FM’s Jesse Addy after discussing the pressure of continued success and number one hits.

“Craving You” featuring Maren Morris off the new record marks Rhett’s 8th number one single and in his short time in the spotlight of country music, his phenomenal growth as an artist is highlighted throughout Life Changes. Nostalgia is a key feeling through out the record with “Sixteen” and the current single “Unforgettable” which transports listeners back to a different time and although they are specific to Rhett’s experiences, the songs remain relatable.

“I hated rules, even as a kid growing up… I don’t like staying in a box,” he says of creating the kind of music that doesn’t stay confined to barriers of genre. His music is never boring and when the slow fade of one song ends you never know what to expect when the next song starts up. In our opinion, being a great artist understands genre is fluid and making great music is more important than coloring within the lines.
