In 2018, country musicians have garnered many new fans as the genre continues to evolve and become more mainstream, even getting recognition on the Top 40 charts. One of the coolest parts of 2018 has been the inter-genre song collaborations between country music stars and other musicians, including pop-stars, rappers, and other talented artists. Below is New York Country Swag’s list of some of our favorite cross-genre musical collaborations of 2018.

“The Feeling”- The Chainsmokers & Kelsea Ballerini

Grammy-nominated country artist, Kelsea Ballerini teamed up with EDM-pop super-duo, comprised of Andrew Taggert and Alex Pall for their new track, “The Feeling.” The song continues to climb the charts, while Ballerini, Taggert, and Pall continue to perform the song live to fans, during Monday Night Football, on Ellen, and on 2018’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

“Meant to Be”- Florida Georgia Line with Bebe Rexha

We can’t have a list of the best collaborations of 2018 without mentioning Florida Georgia Line’s smash hit “Meant to Be” with superstar Bebe Rexha. (Even though the music video was technically released in 2017). The pop-country song held it’s number 1 spot for “Hot Country Songs” for 50 weeks, as well as, breaking the top 5 across the all-genre Billboard charts. Additionally, the track earned FGL and Rexha a 2019 Grammy nomination.

“The Middle”- Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey

Another EDM-country crossover, “The Middle” catapulted to the top of the charts, as country songstress Maren Morris combined her vocals with Zedd and Grey’s musical talent. The song converted many fans to Morris’ music, and showcased her versatility. Not to mention, the song is super catchy!

“Babe”- Sugarland & Taylor Swift

Gone are the days where superstar Taylor Swift is just thought of as a country artist. After making the switch to pop-star, Swift lent her voice to the country powerhouses of Sugarland in their hit “Babe” which was a big part of the duo’s comeback in 2018.

“Say Something”- Justin Timberlake & Chris Stapleton

Pop music icon Justin Timberlake and CMA Male Vocalist of the Year winner, Chris Stapleton combined their beautiful voices for “Say Something” off Timberlake’s most recent album. The duo has worked together in the past, performing Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” at the 2015 CMA Awards. Both artists prove that their talents resonate across multiple genres.

“The Champion”- Carrie Underwood & Ludacris

Fans of the NFL may recognize Carrie Underwood’s song “The Champion” with Ludacris, as the anthem for Sunday Night Football. The collaboration showcases Underwood’s powerhouse vocals with Ludacris’ hip-hop skills. The duo delivers a fresh and unique sound with this track.

“Never Be the Same”- Camila Cabello & Kane Brown

This year, Camila Cabello remixed her smash hit “Never Be The Same” with country star, Kane Brown, giving the song an equally-amazing, but different feel. Brown, who is already known for his talent in blurring genre lines, delivers impressive vocals in this cool duet.

We can’t wait to see how the genre lines will be blurred in 2019 and how country music continues to evolve. Don’t forget to follow our Spotify playlist to listen to our full list of songs.

Kelsea Ballerini reunited with her friends, EDM-pop duo The Chainsmokers at one of the biggest events of the season last night, the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Held right here in New York City, the trio were among five other musical acts including Shawn Mendes, Bebe Rexha, Halsey, Rita Ora, and The Struts.

They performed their smash hit “This Feeling” throughout the Golden Angel segment of the show, which featured supermodels Candice Swanepoel, Stella Maxwell, Barbara Palvin and more strutting down the iconic runway. Ballerini is the first country artist to hit Victoria’s Secret runway since Taylor Swift was booked as one of the musical acts in 2013.

Ballerini blended right in with the Angels, rocking a stunning gold sparkling mini dress which showed off her toned legs. Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall of The Chainsmokers also sported gold and black embellished suits to go along with the theme. Taggart and Ballerini belted out their upbeat tune while harmonizing beautifully during the song’s bridge and chorus, up and down the gold sparkling runway while Pall was in control of the instrumentals. The two had some fun dancing with the Angels as they strutted down the catwalk. A few of the other supermodels were also shown jamming out backstage.

Ballerini will end this year with a bang as she performs as the headlining act for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve event on the West coast with a number of other artists such as Dua Lipa, Charlie Puth, The Chainsmokers and more which will air on ABC at 8/7c.

The country princess will hit the road with one of her idols, Kelly Clarkson as a supporting act for her ‘Meaning Of Life Tour’ in 2019, followed by her first-ever headlining arena tour entitled the ‘Miss Me More Tour’ with special guests Brett Young and country newcomer Brandon Ratliff. Head to http://kelseaballerini.com/ for more information on both tours and a full list of dates.

Kelsea Ballerini Collaborates with The Chainsmokers on “This Feeling”

Grammy nominated country artist, Kelsea Ballerini has teamed up with EDM-pop diamond-selling duo The Chainsmokers for a brand new single titled “This Feeling”. This is not the first time The Chainsmokers have immersed into the country music world. Last year, the duo collaborated with Florida Georgia Line for a song on their album Memories…Do Not Open, titled “Last Day Alive.”

Back in 2016, a twitter exchange between Ballerini and The Chainsmokers sparked possibilities of this collaboration. The duo reached out to the singer-songwriter in a since-deleted tweet, saying they wanted to “hang” with her. Ballerini quoted their tweet responding, “It’s like you’re READING MY MIND. I’m in.”

Ballerini also hinted the collaboration on the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards red carpet, while talking to E! News, “As far as the next record, I want to do a collaboration with The Chainsmokers.” Ballerini and The Chainsmokers officially announced their new single nearly a week ago by posting the cover art to their social media accounts.

Written by Alex Pall, Andrew Taggart and Emily Warren, the record features vocals from Ballerini and the duo’s lead vocalist, Taggart. “This Feeling” tells the story of wanting someone but being told you’re wrong for wanting them by the people around you and feeling misunderstood because this feeling you have is indescribable.

“They tell me think with my head / Not that thing in my chest / They got their hands at my neck this time,” goes the chorus of “This Feeling.” “But you’re the one that I want / If that’s really so wrong, then they don’t know what this feeling is like.”

The sound is distinctive from Ballerini’s two previous albums, giving center-stage to the pop/EDM uptempo beat, but stays true to the similar lyrics of a country love story.

“This Feeling” is another sure to be charted single by The Chainsmokers. The single is available wherever you stream or buy music. Check out the full lyric video below.

Ballerini is currently on tour with Keith Urban for his Graffiti U World Tour, which will stop in New York City on October 27th at Barclays Center. Tickets are available here.
