Today’s spotlight shines on incredible singer-songwriter, Randall Fowler. While there are many talented artists in the country music space, Fowler is committed to taking an authentic approach to music and honoring the people in his life that make it possible. “I’m from a small town right outside of Charleston, South Carolina. […] I played sports growing up and when I got out into the working field, I got one of my first jobs just washing dishing in a dish pit. I would sing in the back while washing dishes and I had a buddy at the time, who was the bar manager, and he heard me singing and he was like, “hey man, are you in a band? I’m getting ready to start a band.” Started Fowler, before confirming he did in fact join the band.

Growing up, Fowler recalls drawing inspiration from many genres of music; however, country remained his first inspiration. “My grandmother would take me on car rides down to Virginia, and on the backroads we’d listen to Charley Rich, Charley Pride, all the older stuff. I would just sing along to it. I remember getting a Travis Tritt cassette tape, a Tracy Lawrence cassette tape, a Faith Hill cassette tape, that was some of the first stuff I was singing along to.” Adding later, “I had a very charismatic family. In my earlier years, my parents went their separate ways when I was young, but I got to hang out with my dad’s family a lot, and they were very charismatic and they all sang a lot. I had some family members with incredible voices and that kind of rubbed off on me.”

Fowler took his love of music with him when he joined his co-workers cover band. “I was about to turn 20, 21, and I met this guy at a little garage shed, and I met the rest of the band, and we started playing music together locally as a cover band for the next eleven years.”

Flash forward to today, Fowler is releasing a lot of music. Most recently the singer-songwriter shared two singles called “About Forever” and “Glory.” Both songs are a testament to the life he lives and the people who he loves.

“With my song, “About Forever,” I went to a write with two of the coolest guys I know, Clay Mills and Chris Sligh. I know that they really believe in me and we often have a lot of sessions together. Both prolific writers, heavy hand on the pen, and just like me, great guys, open-minded to whatever ideas you bring to the table. I wanted to write a special song for my lady. […] “About Forever” started on a melody. […] I knew it was something that would channel the emotions that I was aiming for. We wrote it with a piano vocal, and we sat on the demo for a little while.” 

The song impressed his wife, who was his muse for the song. It became really important to Fowler, who subsequently released it earlier this summer.

“It’s more of a personal story to me. Every lyric in the song is something that my wife and I have shared personally. We were kids when we got together, sixteen and seventeen, and it took me about eleven years to really grow up, I’d say. We kind of took our time in getting married. This year is our twentieth year together, and I thought it would be special to put out a song celebrating [almost] nine years married.”

On the other hand, “Glory,” his most recent release, was written with his buddy who unfortunately passed away just a week after writing the song. “I wrote it with a friend of mine named Sam Johnson, who passed away last year, suddenly, and it’s just every lyric of that song, every verse, just poured out of him when we were writing. We tragically lost Sam about a week and half later, and this song is just so special. It’s straight out of the mouth of my best friend, Sam Johnson, who is one of the most prolific, up and coming writers that left his mark in such a little time here in Nashville.”
