Who Is Chase Martin? The Story Behind Her Journey to Country Music
Chase Martin has released her debut single “Levi Denim” after signing to Barry Weiss’ RECORDS (Sony). Read more about the artist below.
Chase Martin, a Charleston native who graduated high school early with a 5.0 GPA, has indirectly had her path chosen for her in the very best way. She had planned on becoming a neurologist, a career path that some may say would be more sensible or realistic however, music was always in her peripheral vision. In a Swag Spotlight interview, we discuss all the details on how this Whitney Houston enthusiast landed in Nashville as well as signing a record deal in the middle of quarantine and her debut single “Levi Denim”.
While taking a year off from school in order to start college with friends and people of her own age, Martin and her parents visited Music City. “They brought me to Nashville when I was 17 and I played a whole bunch of the open mic nights,” Martin explains. “…the next day, we got up and we were going around town, and my dad actually pulls up to an apartment complex and he was like ‘well let’s just look’. And, we started touring this apartment complex and next thing my mom and I know, he says to the lady showing us around ‘well where can I sign for the lease?’”
And, despite any success attained in downtown Charleston, where Martin had initially caught the music bug and was a practicing, consistent performer, the move to Nashville was arguably where her life as a musician began. Though, the roots laid down don’t go unappreciated. The time spent opening up for shows and festivals helped Martin discover her artistry. “I feel like that helped with my stage presence … and (figuring out) what I wanted to say, and just exactly who I wanted to be.”
The debut single “Levi Denim”, released October 9, accurately reveals the type of message to which Martin refers. Not only does it provide encouraging, confident words to young women that showcases the influence Shania Twain has on the artist, but these listeners can also relate to such a situation in which catching the attention of a certain guy is the goal of the night. “I just love to see a woman be confident and comfortable in their skin,” Martin explains. “And, I know the song refers to walking past a guy and wanting his attention, (but) I think at the end of the day the song is about being confident in who you are and, not needing to be dressed to the nines.”
Written by Abby Anderson, Alison Veltz, and Matt Stell, “Levi Denim” is the first representation of this new artist portrayed through music. And, we cannot wait to hear more from Martin, who has entered full force into the industry and hopes to one day find herself in the Grand Ole Opry circle.
