Mitchell Tenpenny Sold Out NYC Show at Mercury Lounge
As his debut single “Drunk Me” heads into the top 20 on the charts, Mitchell Tenpenny traveled to New York City to perform at Nash FM 94.7 as well as at his very first headlining New York City show at Mercury Lounge, which just happened to sell out completely. New York Country Swag was there to experience something really magical happening for the rising artist.
His full band took the stage and right from the get-go played “Truck I Drove in High School” which is one of the featured songs on his debut EP. The precedent was set at that moment, if the song was released, the audience knew every word and sang along. He played all five songs from the EP as well as some classic country covers, Blake Shelton’s “Ole Red” and mashed his single “Mixed Drinks” with Marc Cohn’s “Walking In Memphis”. He also told the audience he wanted to play his favorite Billy Currington song, “Good Directions” which the sold-out venue loved.
He revealed three brand new songs that he is recording for his debut full-length album including “That’s How She Goes”, “Telling All My Secrets”, and “Goner”. He ended his set by singing three fan favorites, “Alcohol You Later”, “Drunk Me” and “Bitches”. He stopped to acknowledge that his single is currently climbing the charts “That’s a dream come true seriously…cheers everybody…thank you so much for coming tonight my name’s Mitchell Tenpenny and I really appreciate it”
Before his final song, he explained a little disclaimer, “I don’t mean to offend anybody but if I do, I don’t give a shit… this song isn’t about calling girls bitches or guys bitches…it’s about calling bitches, bitches”. The audience laughed and then sang every word back to the singer-songwriter who was clearly humbled.
