Mickey Guyton Releases “Sister” The Anthem We All Need To Hear
Over the past few years, Capitol Records Nashville recording artist and songwriter Mickey Guyton has been on a journey to find what she wants to say and find a way to release music that fuels her inner fire. In a recently released video, Guyton explains how she is now focusing on staying true to herself in her career and giving up the urge to please others. She is excited to share this new chapter with country music fans and the very first song was released today (6/28).
“Sister” is for every girl out there, it is an anthem for being a friend, a confidant, and a true supporter of other women. Guyton co-wrote the song with Nathan Spicer and Victoria Banks and it was produced by Forest Glen Whitehead. The midtempo track starts off with powerful lyrics “I know it’s hard being strong and not gettin’ lost in the mans world, it’s gonna try to break you down but you gotta not give a damn girl…” she then sings in the compelling chorus “Sister, I got your back on a long drunk stumble home / Sister, I’ll be your ‘hell yeah’ when all you ever heard was ‘no’ / I’m your speed dial call, I’m your late night cry / I’m your shotgun seat, yeah I’m your ride or die / Sister, you’re gonna hurt but you ain’t gotta hurt alone”
“Sisterhood is truly what gets me through every day,” explains Mickey. “I have two sisters but anyone who knows me, knows I call all the women in my life sister. I wrote this song during a time when I challenged myself to write more honestly, be more open about my feelings, and reflect on how I’ve been uplifted by so many women in my life. ‘Sister’ is about my love relationship with all my sisters, and how we lean on each other through highs and lows.”
In a time when the conversation needs to change, when it seems like all we are doing is talking about what needs to be modified in the country music genre, it’s refreshing to blast this song, hoping to soon be blasting it on country radio. Mickey Guyton is another example of a powerful female country artist unapologetically releasing great music, aiming at breaking the wheel.
