Dusty Black’s new self-title EP, featuring “Don’t That Sound Like Her” “Curveball,” and “Dust Off of Me,” is out now. Learn more and listen to the new record below.

With a voice laced with power and emotion, Dusty Black’s self-titled EP, out now, finds the rising star at his finest. Packed with striking vocals and dynamic musicianship, the collection explores life, love, loss, and everything in between.

Released via QHMG/Stone Country Records, the EP was produced by Mickey Jack Cones and features songs written by Jordan Walker, Chris DuBois, Heath Sanders, Josh Mirenda and more.  “This EP is the end result of a lot of soul-searching about who I am and who I want to be,” says Black. “That’s why my name is in the title, but whoever you are, I hope you’ll love my songs because they tell your own story too.”

For the Texas-born and Memphis-raised singer, the EP represents a step forward as an artist and storyteller. Opening with “Don’t That Sound Like Her,” Black immediately shows off, his voice impassioned and emotive as he sends a warning to his ex’s new lover. “She’ll steal your heart and take off running,” He warns of the woman who broke his heart, “Til she’s gone and her taillight’s down the drive.”

“Goodbye Drives Me Crazy” gives him another chance to flex his vocal prowess, capturing the bittersweet emotion of leaving home for work. Gruff yet relatable, he wrestles with the ache of being away from the one he loves.

“’Cause goodbye drives me crazy // Leaving is harder lately // Just know another minute without you is a moment wasted // I know it’s hard to hold on // When I ain’t there to hold on to // Seeing you in the rearview makes me hate me // I go insane without you // But I’ll be back home soon // ‘Cause goodbye drives me crazy”

“Dust Off of Me” is a gorgeous love song about falling in love again after time away from romance, while “Curveball” celebrates the man who raised him. “The best coach I ever had never sat in the dugout,” He proclaims of his father, who he longs to be like. “Somewhere down the road, I hope I get to be, the coach and teach everything that he taught me.”

Black turns things up on tracks like “In That Case” and “I Don’t Wanna Be Right.” The former offers a clever breakup twist (“She ain’t about to kill my buzz, I’m gonna drink ’em while I got ’em”), while the latter is an unapologetic country anthem. Here, he embraces his upbringing and lifestyle, pushing back at those who don’t understand his country-boy ways. “If being country’s wrong, then I don’t wanna be right,” he declares.

In the end, Dusty Black stands as a powerful snapshot of an artist who knows exactly where he’s headed. Blending heartfelt storytelling with undeniable vocal grit, the EP captures both his roots and his growth, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
